The Buxted Inn in Wealden

If you have not visited the Buxted Inn for some time, I highly recommend. The decor is current yet comfortable making the bar area a nice place for a drink with friends or as a couple, there is a good selection of spirits behind the bar alongside side what is to offer on tap including a good Harvey's Best or try a pint from local 360 Brewery. The restaurant is cosy and stylish along with a well thought out menu that is being done at a higher standard than the average pub, thourghly enjoyed sharing a Brisket Doughnut. The Sunday Roast was incredible, and I recommend the local beef or lamb. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and unfazed to cater for two adults and four muddy children for fish n chips. The team are doing a top-notch job!

I've been here twice now and won't be back. Last time a dog running around the pub knocked a full glass of red wine over me and ruined the evening and my outfit

Wanted to get away from the big smoke, and the one hour journey from London Bridge to have a beer in a country pub was a breeze. The Inn is bang opposite the train station, and upon entering I was very pleased that it was furnished with luxurious deep leather couches and bar stools, something that you rarely get in London. Very well presented bar with excellent ales on offer. Decided to stay for steak which was top grade, everything heated including the pot for the peppercorn sauce. Wines very good value by the glass as well. Staff very friendly and attentive especially Scott who mixes a wicked Gin cocktail made with fresh red peppers. Will definitely be back.

What a welcome! We phoned on route to say we would be late and they kept the kitchen open for us. Very accommodating staff…Kira who welcomed us and the blonde lady whose name we have forgotten …sorry…but served us in the restaurant. Food and wine was delicious. Room very comfy, great shower! Will definitely stay again when in the area

Stayed here for a night with family, it was a Sunday and they don't serve food on a Sunday. However we were allowed to order takeaway and eat in the bar, cutlery and plates provided for us and all rubbish taken away, which was great. The room was lovely, the bed could have been a little more comfortable. Good shower, and great coffee. David was very helpful in the evening, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is extra, we didn't have this as we had plans, but another family member did, and said it was good. Overall a nice stay

Dropped in for a quick lunch on a sunny Saturday. Excellent fish and chips, and friendly service. The pub and it’s setting aren’t exactly picturesque - but the interior is clean and nicely presented - and the food, as mentioned, is great. So nice to have fish that was beautifully cooked, and white throughout, with crispy beery batter.

We had a great evening at Buxted Inn. Staff were very friendly and gave lots of good information about the menu and specials. There were a good array of drinks and the food was delicious. I went for the burger and paramsan fries and my husband had the harissa lamb with flatbread. Both really tasty!

Fantastic pub, booked for a birthday celebration, made the reservation on line and requested a quiet table and said it was for a birthday. The table allocated was quiet as requested and the staff even asked who's birthday it was. Food was delicious Fish and chips superb as was the burger and the salmon stew, can't fault the food or the service which was attentive but not over bearing. The deserts were delightful and a lovely touch was the birthday candle that was added without asking to the complementary desert for the birthday guest, which was a lovely surprise. Will definitely be returning, thank you to the owners and staff for making it such a lovely evening.

We were so impressed with the roast. The beef was cooked to perfection & the vegetables, potatoes & gravy were amazing! The bar man, was so welcoming & friendly.... We will most definitely be returning!

We were staying locally and enjoyed a takeaway meal from the Buxted Inn so much that we went back for a second one! The Lamb Tagine was simply delicious and the Mushroom and Halloumi burger went down very well too. Booked a table to celebrate my step-son's 40th birthday. Six of us including 2 kids. Food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. My only small issue was that, in the current Covid climate, we are not supposed to leave the table. So this means that the staff need to be a bit more attentive to ensure we are all OK - do we need more drinks for example. Not by any means a deal breaker but just a thought as to how they could make the experience even better. Overall an excellent might out and, would I go again - yes.

Four of us visited for dinner yesterday evening and we had an amazing time - everything was perfect, from the welcome on arrival, to the pre-dinner service in the garden, to the fabulous table they reserved for us for our meal - and the meal itself of course which was delicious, and earned a comment from one of our group that it was the best steak he'd ever eaten - and this man knows his steak! The service was impeccable - efficient, friendly, discreet and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble. When a bottle of wine we chose from the wine list wasn't available, the manager offered us a more expensive bottle for the same price - a very generous and much appreciated gesture. My auntie and I visited yesterday lunch time after a walk locally. We had booked a table but arrived slightly earlier than expected which was not a problem as staff welcomed us to a seating area, got us some drinks and gave us the menus to view until our table was ready. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and polite, the service was good and the food was great. Both of us would thoroughly recommend it here.

My wife and I had lunch there yesterday. The service was excellent as was the food. I had a steak which was cooked exactly as requested. The triple cooked chips are wonderful. My wife had the whole sea bream and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The food is really nice as well.As someone who starts early it would be great for breakfast to start at 7 rather than 7:30. We went here to celebrate my Fathers 90th birthday. The restaurant was well laid out in line with the Covid restrictions. The food was excellent & the staff very attentive & engaging. We all enjoyed the range of starters which we had as Tapas & the variety of mains we had were super. We weren't restricted by any time limit which was nice & we enjoyed a long leisurely lunch. The added touch of a decorated dessert for my Father was really appreciated & shows they care & think about their customers.We would highly recommend the Buxted Inn & look forward to another visit in the future.

Tried this for a Mothering Sunday roast which we ordered and collected. Very good and plenty of it. Booked it again for Sunday 29th and having said we would collect, received it through personal delivery just as I returned from a very cold wintry walk with our dogs. A welcome sight and again a well received Sunday lunch. Even the Yorkshire Puds were just right. Thanks to all at the Buxted Inn

Great food, relaxed atmosphere. I had the scallops which were cooked to perfection and the presentation was stunning. The fish in the fish and chips was huge! The whole family loved their meals.

Went to the Buxted Inn for a family Sunday meal today, the restaurant came highly recommended for its exceptional Sunday roast and I was not disappointed. I was served a really good sized, perfectly cooked piece of pork belly for my main along with all the usual Sunday roast accompaniments, it was devine. Other family members had the chicken and the beef roast options whilst some had the cod dish but all were equally as satisfied. There was a really good wine list to choose from and we enjoyed two beautiful bottles of wine which were recommended by the helpful and attentive staff. The chocolate cake desert (and its little accompaniments!) was also delicious and topped off a perfect Sunday roast dinner with the family. Well done The Buxted Inn, we will most certainly be back for frequent Sunday roasts!!

Disappointed by this visit given the good reviews I’ve read. On arrival it is welcoming, nice decor and as it was a Friday evening there was a good buzz. Tables slightly too close together so our table for two was quite jammed in and it was quite noisy. But better that than quiet and soulless. Service was friendly and efficient.My food raised a real bugbear for me. Misleading descriptions on the menu. I ordered pork fritters - note the plural on the menu! I got one fritter, less than two inches long on a plate with some sauce and small pile of radish. For £6.50. On pointing out that I was expecting more than one fritter I was told that yes, they should change the menu. Even so, one tiny fritter was really penny pinching and not acceptable for the price. It was tasty, from the one bite it lasted.I also ordered the braised beef, ale and cabbage pie - note this is different from the ‘cottage pie’ on the sample online menu. It is not a pie. It is pastry top on a dish. I should have checked before ordering as again I think not making a proper pie is rather lazy and penny pinching. It was a reasonable size though the filling, while well flavoured, was meagre, not half filling the dish and I could not find any cabbage! I swapped mash for chips, which were ok but I only got 6 chips! There was nothing green or vegetable like on either of our main courses which, as they were both over £15 each is also disappointing. You shouldn’t have to order sides just to get some vegetables.My partner’s meal of scallops and chicken main, were described as fine but nothing remarkable for the price, with the chicken being quite dry.This meal could have been so much better, but I think it suffered, like so many restaurants do, from management attempts to increase margins at the expense of the diner. How much more would it have cost you to give me two fritters, a proper pie with pastry sides and base, 10 chips, and a half dozen bantons of carrot? If you had done, this would be a somewhat different review.

My wife and I popped in for a meal on Monday evening, our first visit to the Buxted Inn under the new management. We received a warm welcome, excellent service, and great food, all at a very fair price. We will definitely return soon.

Visited the Buxted Inn last night. All I can say is WOW.The staff couldn’t be more friendly and service was exceptional.The food presentation was outstanding and the food was top quality.The Buxted Inn was one of the cleanest pubs I’ve ever been in, 5* plus for that.Will definitely be going and and would highly recommend to anyone.

My husband and i had a really lovely candle lit evening meal here recently. The menu was interesting (even the veggie choices which showed thought and imagination). The food was delicious and all obviously home made including the sticky toffee pudding with rum banana which was fabulous!Very good service, good beer, and we'd definitely recommend it and visit again

Myself and my husband had dinner tonight for Valentine’s Day, I loved the set menu and was very excited to eat here.The appetiser was a delicious, I can’t remember what it was called but mmm.We had such an amazing time tonight, the food was beautiful! Incredible food, generous and well balanced, moved down from Scotland in December and definitely best meal we have had since moving, a little gem.

Love this pub. We have been numerous times and it only gets better.

Firstly I would like to commend the service. I was a little disappointed I was offered a special Rose wine that was on, but when asking for a 2nd one they hadn't anymore, not sure why you would recommend someone like that my palate was confused and the only other Rose by the glass was not at all good. Food .. I had trout which was market of the day..the skin was soggy (not crisp and edible).. samphire not much taste, however green beans and almonds crisp and tasty, potatoes were just potatoes...hubby had a burger which he said was very good, he didnt like the triple cooked chips thought they were way too big and not crisp enough, and didnt really come with a side salad or anything just a lump of gerkin on the very awful looking wooden board. Whilst I understand that some people dont mind this both my husband and I dont like going back in time we have I believe moved on to eat off ceramic plates some years ago far nicer and more refined. Desserts, not enough choices to make anything stand out for me, so opted for cheese which local as it was, was on the biscuit was not at all nice, hard solid hexagon shape awful tasting things, something light and crisp would have been nice. The chutney was very nice as was the cheese. We also had to send our bill back as around £20 worth of items were missing, lack of attention to detail is what closes businesses down, mistakes happen but this was a huge fopar on a not particularly busy time.

We had dinner here tonight, having eaten here several times recently. The food is really good, very reasonably priced, and excellent service.

I stayed at the Buxted Inn the other day and was very impressed with the welcome I received on my entry. The gentleman I met when checking in was fab and also told me about the area.

Lovely £10 lunch - lovely lamb pie and some of the most delicious mash too. Liked the main we both ordered pudding too - equally delicious. Beer good and glass of google red good quality and reasonable prices. Will come back.

We arrived on a Saturday evening, having not pre-booked, and were fortunate to be accommodated for a meal in the restaurant. The food was delicious, the three of us ate different starters and mains and each was faultless. Despite being completely sated, we couldn't ignore the incredible cheese menu and were spoiled for choice! All in all, it was a lovely relaxed meal with extremely attentive service. We are so lucky to have such a great place to eat in our village!

After having a fabulous Christmas lunch here in 2018 we couldn't wait to get do the same again this year. I think we may have even been the first to book for 2019!

We celebrated a significant birthday with a meal here and we were very impresed with the quality of the food. To supplement the food they have a good selection of wine. We have no hesitation in recommending and we will be returning.

Every time we come down to this part of the country we never fail to pay this restaurant a visit. The food is excellent you feel the chef takes a real pride in his menu. The staff always helpful. A real gem of a restaurant.

Had the roast beef, Yorkshire looked overdone but tasted ok, generous amount of meat but it was very underdone and too chewy - I didn't think it was very good quality meat because of this.

The Buxted Inn was recommended to us for lunch and we were delighted with the recommendation. We each had a starter, main course and dessert and all the food was absolutely delicious. The service was first class and it was terrific value for money. Everything spotlessly clean too.

We were visiting friends nearby, we stayed for two night’s. For the money I expected a lot more. Rooms were not 100% clean, the sheets had holes in (we mentioned this after our first night sleep but we still had the damaged sheets the next night) Wouldn’t waste you money to stay, I’ve had half the price rooms at a travelodge, which were cleaning / better facilities. Service downstairs was pretty average / poor and very slow. Overall we were very disappointed with the stay and would find elsewhere in future when visiting friends.

We had not been to The Buxted Injn for decades, but what a lovely surprise, we found a smart Edwardian building with a large car park at the rear;, a long bar greets one immediately inside the front door, and the dining area is spacious though a little lacking in atmosphere. Tables are well spaced and generally well lit. Not a cosy room but one is here for the food.

Came upon this place coming home. Lovely atmosphere and great food. What set it apart was the great service. If it was nearer home I would return !

We ordered pulled pork fritters with piccalilli and crispy potato skins. The fritters were more like arancini, one had no pork in at all, the other just potato and parsley and the outside was hard, not crisp. The piccalilli was orange, very vinegary with carrots in it, and the potato skins were so hard you couldn’t break them in half. I had breads with olives and dips. There was also a scone which had obviously been microwaved as it was too hard to break with fingers and difficult even with a knife, and the inside was solid ! The bread was stale but the olives and dips were ok. We complained and the cost of the breads was was taken off the bill. It was not cheap and we were very disappointed and will certainly not return. This must be an anomaly as the other reviews are so good.
