The Butty Bus in Eilean Siar

Had to catch the morning ferry and tried to find a place for breakfast. Were refused at the hotel restaurant so we drove down to the butty bus. Glad we did! The drive down was full of amazing sights and the bacon, egg and cheese hot roll and coffee topped it off. Beyond our expectations for a bus in the middle of nowhere!!! Still talk about it years later.

Highly recommend the fish supper and scampi. Batter just the right consistency. Stunning location with great views over to Uist. Friendly service.

We had Fish & Chips, Fish was good , but Fries were awful.

This great little bus served up very good fish and chips after getting off the ferry, which we ate at their tables.

PERFECT! had breakfast a couple of mornings from here.Lovely fresh, well filled rolls. Particularly recommend the haggis and black pudding.

Closed until the 5th of July. Very disappointing and inconvenient.

Quirky little cafe based in a bus. Everything you need for a quick snack while waiting for the ferry. Bacon rolls, sausage rolls etc and even fish and chips. Just the owner serving so be prepared for a little bit of a wait for the food to be cooked.

Waiting for the ferry to Berneray. Had already had a great bacon and egg doubler from here for breakfast and it was perfect. Our ferry wasn't till late in the day so I ordered fish and chips for dinner. While waiting I noticed soup of the day was yom tum veg. Had a bowl while waiting.(rude not too). Off the scale brilliance. Home made, all authentic ingredients sourced from Thailand on owners annual winter trip. Fish and chips were great, very generous portion. Delicious. Yom Tum soup was incredible. Perhaps you'll be lucky when you visit and Tom Yum is soup of the day but I would suggest that with those skills all food here will be great. (PS. I have been here a couple of years ago and the food was great then too. Consistent quality. Good value. Thank you. Hope to eat at the Butty Bus again soon.

Good solid food for hungry people at good prices. Coffees and drinks all instant but hot. Dishes include chips & cheese, egg/bacon/breakfast rolls, fish and chips, burgers.

Very basic cafe food, nothing special, looks dirty. Needs a cleanup

Lovely quirky place, so glad we stopped- had x2 brekkie rolls, and they're massive- kept us going all day!!

Truly the best fish n chips I’ve had. Been in the UK six months now and had given up on them—fish is always too greasy, chips soggy, batter too thick, etc—but something about this bus told me to try again. So glad I did. All the bits came together perfectly in this one. Had to go back and give him a fiver.

Prima fish & chips voor de snelle hap maar het is verder wel een beetje vergane glorie. Zeer norse, onvriendelijke man. Geen servetten of bestek. Prima om iets te eten als je er langs komt maar zou er zeker niet apart voor naar toe rijden.

Stumbled across this place on a quiet Friday night down by the pier and has fish and chips. Good sized portions and well cooked. Paid by card and was given a buzzer so could wander whilst food was cooked.

had takeaway fish and chips, they were really good, freshly cooked and great service. Also called in for a breakfast butty another day, perfect before a long walk.

De food truck staat in de haven bij de Ferry. De koffie (black) en de cappuccino waren niet te drinken. Beide niet opgedronken. Het broodje (panini) met kaas en tomaat was lekker.

Stopped of yesterday for something to eat with family ,had fish and chips which we enjoyed, the only thing that let it down was the lack of banter from the owner not even a smile.

Cute wee by next to the ferry port. They had a couple of picnic tables next to it. Toilets are across the road. I had a bacon and black pudding roll which was lovely. I really enjoyed it

I had a hot and hearty Tom Yum soup here, that I was not expecting, and enjoyed very much. A great place to grab some tasty food while waiting for the ferry or disembarking from it.

Looks great but it was closed both times we passed by on Tuesday. Alternative to buy food if you get off ferry here is the community shop in Leverborough. (We are cyclists)

Been coming here for years and i have yet to taste a better authentic Cullen Skink any were else in Scotland pity its only on a Friday but i guess its a traditional thing !

Visitited the butty bus at the pier head at leverburgh isle of harris Scotland yesterday. Had the venison sausage pannini it was to die for best venison ever tasted Friendly staff great location will be going back today for more. If you near that way you must pay a visit. You will not be disappointed the menu is great as well.

The Butty Bus was open when most other places were closed and we had some of the best fish and chips for ages. Make this your first stop after getting off the ferry, you won’t be disappointed,

We waited in the rain outside the bus for 30 minutes, during which time the cook managed to produce fish and chips to only 2 customers who had ordered before we arrived. There were 3 other couples waiting with us, and at no time did the cook attempt to communicate with anyone in the queue. It wasn’t until the lady at the head of the queue managed to attract the cook’s attention and asked him directly whether he has any fish left that he told her, not the rest of us, that he had only 3 pieces left - clearly not enough for everyone waiting. He made no attempt to apologise or even talk to the rest of us, just returned to his deep fat fryer. We left without any food, having wasted over half an hour.

Has to be good when you see the locals queuing up! We had an hour or two to kill waiting on the ferry to North Uist. It was a dry but chilly day. We got a selection - chips, scampi & battered cod…all fresh , welcome & delicious. Good outdoor seating available.

The food is quite good from what I have had. You have to wait at least 10 minutes before you get served unless your at the front on the queue and the Coffee tastes terrible.

The best egg roll on planet Harris. Great menu and friendly service, could not ask for more when you need to fill up your belly. Who needs petrol when you can fuel up on an egg roll!

We ran out of food and fortunately the Butty Bus was open when we arrived off the ferry! Chef does a great job in a limited space, panini was lovely. Latte however, not so great.

This spot is a lifesaver when dealing with an early ferry. Excellent food (I had an extremely good filled roll) and fresh coffee. Friendly folk running it. I hope this place is still thriving when I pass this way again in the future. I’d like to try their lunch offerings, which look great.

A little gem. Nice to have somewhere you can have hot food when you are on the road. The Butty Bus have a good selection of dishes available. It's parked next to the car park at the ferry terminal so it gets surprisingly busy at times but waiting time is not long. Prices are reasonable. Loved the Scampi and Chips. Both the scampi and chips tasted great and the quantity was just right.

Excellent breakfast butties! All the best ingredients for your Scottish bap - Stornoway Black pudding, haggis, lorne sausages and potato cakes. Even Pip my Airedale terrier tucked in!

We just fancied fish and chips, gave the Butty Bus a go and did not regret it! Absolutely super food, no nonsense well cooked and wonderfully presented, grease free fresh container, napkins and cutlery at a very competitive price. Highly recommend.

There can be quite a queue due to proximity of the ferry > arrivals & departures, so be prepared to wait, good fish and (frozen) chips though 👍🏻 we also had the special a port thai curry, very good 👍🏻

Went for fish & chips based on recommendations. The order is prepared after you order so everything is fresh. The fish was excellent and very fresh. We found the batter was heavy and too greasy for out tastes. The heaviness stayed with us all afternoon.

It’s not gourmet but it is tasty. It’s a bus that sells burgers and other fast food. It’s all cooked fresh and was good value.

The Butty Bus, run by the welcoming Chris, is an excellent place to go for very fresh, locally sourced, fish and chips at a reasonable price. There are other things on the menu, but it is the fish that keeps people coming back. You can eat it on the quayside, in the bus (as we did today - it was blowing a bit outside) or you can take away. Worth noting that he takes cards as well as cash. Very useful.
