4 of us Stopped here for 1 night, the bedroom was quaint, all of them were named after famous Bruce's. We had the Ken Bruce and the Bruce Springsteen! Booked in for evening meal which was fantastic, warm runny yolk Scotch egg, followed by Braised Beef Cheek and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla ice cream all were excellent! Good selection of wines and a nice pint of Theakstones bitter. The breakfast was also excellent, quality bacon sausage blackpudding with tomatoe mushrooms beans and lovely egg! Warm Croissants and Pan au chocolat home made jam cereal if you wanted it and a fantastic Apple and Rhubarb juice. Matt was a fantastic host and I would recommend a night at the Bruce Arms with or without your dog and I nice country walk!

We both had the sirloin steak which whilst a little pricey at £35, was well worth the money. It was big, beautifully cooked and very tasty. There was nothing to fault, the chips were possibly the nicest we have ever had and the mushroom, tomatoe and salad accompanying the dish were great too. Nicely renovated as a traditional country pub and great service too. Highly recommend.

only stopping for a main course lunch service was quick and efficient, old Jamaica ginger beer sweet and fiery. I has venison haunch that was cooked spot on with plenty of juicy ruby red meat to match the red and yellow beets that came with it. flavorful juice and extra plate of mixed greens elevated the meal. she had the cod and chorizo with potatoes a proper ramp up on the usual fish and chips. really liked the whole place, people and food.

Shocking... Clearly under new management and forgotten to hire a chef. Scary to think that people may visit Yorkshire and a meal here could shape thier opinion of the area. We booked a meal after reviewing the google reviews and photos. It was clear that the majority of photos and reviews are from previous ownership/management. The dinning area was dirty and dusty. The toilets were even worse.... The food, priced at about 30 quid for 2 courses implied it was going to save the experience.... not the case. The beef was cooked well, but the rest of the meal was shocking. Burnt yorkshires, raw cauliflower cheese and the potatos definitely werent made within the days service and I wouldn't be surprised if they had been warmed up from the week before. After expressing our disappointment staff were kind enough to remove the food from out bill as we hadnt eaten it and we paid the bill they provided. When leaving we were approached by a drunk man (I think his name was Ben). He asked if we had paid for the meal to which we stated we settled the bill. He then asked the question twice more, getting more aggressive. At this point we asked if he was the manager to which he replied he was a mate of the owners. We ended up heading into Ripon for some dinner. I'd advise anyone else to do the same.

Called in for Sunday lunch today, with the little dog we were looking after. Everything was nice and relaxed. We got drinks at the bar and then opted for a 2 course meal (starter and main). The tomato and chilli soup came with a chunk of sour dough bread and herby butter. The salmon was done miso style. The main course of pork and beef were delicious too, with veg and roasties. All washed down with pint of real ale. Recommended.

Great food, good wines including natural wines. Will definitely return. ... Did return and it's still just as good! Natural wines are good for the palette, environment and the head 😁 (presumably from lower sulphite levels). The people here really know their stuff. We were indecisive and had some great help choosing main courses and matching wine (which went well with the main courses and absolutely brilliantly with the starters).

We each enjoyed the smoked bacon loin and lamb cannon. The sticky toffee pudding - what a treat!! The menu changes every couple of weeks or so, so you can be sure to get something seasonal. The breakfast was fab! Great local butcher’s produce. Some may say the food is not the cheapest, but hey, you get what you pay for. The Bruce seems to be on the up with the owners wanting to build up their business which is great to see and support. We will be back!!

What an excellent pub / restaurant. The food is fantastic....so tasty. The staff are fantastic...nothing as any trouble. The ambience is lovely. We just opted for a lunchtime sandwich..but what a sandwich. They came in unpretentious 'ordinary' sliced brown or white bread, fries and a mini tomato and basil soup taster. Absolutely delicious. Ask for the ‘Terry McCLeary Special’ sandwich...white bread on the top, brown bread on the bottom. Magic! Why has it taken an American (our guest for the day) to invent this, off the cuff? He’s a star. (Sadly, Terry died back in the US on May 14th 2020. RIP.)

Went in for lunch today. The sign outside welcomed everyone and their dogs except for racist uncles and that really tickled us so in we went. The pub has recently changed hands so it was good to see what the new owners had done with the place. Tastefully done out but not over the top and you didn't feel like you needed to be in full bib and tucker to be there. Very friendly staff. The landlord ran through the interesting lunch menu with us and we ordered the ploughmans and the market fish which, today, was hake. Food arrived promptly and was really well presented. The hake was fantastic - cooked to perfection on a bed of wilted greens which hid some really punchy samphire and dressed with a caper butter. The ploughmans was interesting with an great assortment of meat, homemade sausage roll and two superb cheeses - the Leeds Blue was the perfect temperature and to die for. A couple of sides of generous hunks of garlic bread and some decent triple cooked chips completed the meal. We left there very happy. The food wasn't the cheapest that we've ever had at around £21 a head including drinks but it was absolutely worth every penny. Highly recommended.

The Queens Headlocation-icon49 High StreetBritish

Spending a couple of nights in the delightful little town of Stokesley we sampled all the pubs. On the first evening the Queens Head was closed but, fortunately we were able to sample it the following evening.First things to say are that we were made welcome and the service was very good. Our beers were also fine - and that’s the end of the positives. If I had to guess, I’d reckon that this is an underfunded and underperforming pub. You can excuse poor furnishings and scruffy decor in a privately owned pub where capital is limited. In a pub owned by a large brewery, such a lack of investment tells its own story.I have experience of Marston’s pubs and am aware that they are never prepared to invest in refurbs unless the profits of the pub hit a certain level. The problem with this approach is that if you keep changing bar managers and allow the decor of a pub to become scruffy, you will never attract enough people to make a difference. It’s all rather self-defeating really. The annoying thing is that with the size and layout of this pub and it’s central location, it clearly has huge potential as a modern bar. As it is - it’s going nowhere and, from a decor point of view, was easily the scruffiest pub in town. The people behind the bar were however very nice, as were the locals, and I can only wish them well. And, strangely perhaps, although this was technically the worst pub we visited, we stayed longer here than in any of the others. Purely down to the pleasure of chatting to the soon to be resigning bar managers and a couple of the local. And to the landlord’s wife - thanks for ramping up the jukebox with Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here” and following on with my request for “Comfortably Numb”.What a great way to finish an evening out.
