We have been going as a couple and in recent years as a young family with grandparents but unfortunately due to our most recent experience will not be returning. Being a bit of a fussy eater I enjoyed the previous owner's varied menu and had a couple of favourites. You could say it was my fault for not looking at the menu prior to going into the restaurant but Iā€™ll let you be the judgeā€¦having sat down it was clear that I would not eat any of the five options of main course. The waiter gave the children some options which arenā€™t available to view beforehand and once every else had ordered it came to me. I asked ā€œI am a bit of a fussy eater so wondered if there is any chance I could have an adults size Sausage & Mash please?ā€ and the response was ā€œNoā€. Not ā€˜I am sorry sir but we canā€™t do thatā€™ or some other polite reply, simply ā€˜Noā€™. So despite having food available that they could have served me, they would rather see one customer have nothing to eat while the other 5 tuck in (to very expensive small portions). Not my idea of great customer service/satisfaction so we will not be going back unfortunately.

A friend and myself spend a 2 nights in Brodick, and as it happened was a Saturday night and we just arrived afternoon. As last option for the lack of table elsewhere we were advised to go to Bar&Braserie. The owner indeed is rude, but we were hungry and seated to wait a table. My friend chose from the menu a Cod I chose a risotto and a margarita for drink.Eventually the drinks arrived and I asked what was that in the glass and was told it a margarita. It was no more than a full glass with crush iced top up God knows with what and a straw. Dear God I never saw a margarita being served with a straw, turn out it was undrinkable.Food wise, twice the waiter come to our table and told my friend that the dish she chose would NOT have one of the elements of it, than on the second time he said there was not enough fish.It is a shame we did not have a phone to take a picture, on the plate was a 10cm piece of boiled fish and a smear of a pure as a garnish, we just could not believe our eyes. After we try drinks and food, and I mean tried, we gave up and asked for the bill. That was the best partWe were charged for a full bill, without consideration of the meal and drink that we were served, because they saw we hardly touch anythingI suggest my friend to talk to them and that person was the owner who assisted her, and a girl who was at the bar making drinks. Eventually the bill was reduced slightly, which I told her that was still not right. That was one in a lifetime to go to that place, disgusting behaviour, disgusting food/drink.I strongly recommend that bargirl to learn the make of a drink first.

IN June 2021 we booked for a wedding anniversary meal. I was more than pleased with my fish bouliibase but my husband who had a steak and our son who had sea bass were both disappointed with the amount. The steak and fish came plated and they waited for their vegetables to appear but the wait was in vail. Seems the one carrot and two green beens WERE the veg! Having had Christnas dinner there previously which was exceptional, was the reason we booked mid summer. So yes, the June meal was very disappointing and to be honest we left still hungry. However, December 2021 arrived and with limited choice of venues and having had a previous exceptional Christmas meal in the BB, we decided to chance it. So we booked for our Christmas lunch/dinner ( 3.pm ish) and was presented with a 7 course menu. Of course we mocked the '7 course' offering as the first couple of courses were just literally bites. However, the meal was exceptional and we were full even though we all decided on the cheeseboard. However, we do feel having seen cheeseboard's presented to others before, that we were a little short changed. We were the last of the diners and wonder if they ran out of produce as our portions were decidedly smaller. The staff were champing at the bit for their Christmas Dinner, which they well deserved having been extremely attentive and helpful throughout. So all together a mixed bag but cannot fault the food just tourist season quantities. As locals, yes, we will return and almost certainly for our 2022 Christmas meal but BB we just ask you to sort out the finer points, as a former chef, I do feel qualified to comment. Your staff are exceptional and also meal quality buy quantity for certain offeringsbeeds adjusting.

Booked tables for 18 people to attend for food on the Saturday. The team kindly seated us in the bar area so we could watch the rugby and offered a more traditional menu from the standard dinner menu. Unfortunately due to the ferry cancellations only 11 of us managed the trip over. This was not an issue to the guys who amended the booking at short notice. The food itself was superb, easily some of the best bar food I've had - my friends agreed. The atmosphere was brilliant too, both on the Saturday for the rugby and the Sunday (when we returned) for the football. The whole bar team including the chef were incredibly accommodating - we barely visited another bar on Arran due to how well we were treated. 100% worth visiting.

Dined here during our stay at Auchrannie resort and the food was simply fantastic! We had the pigeon and the salmon starter, and both had the seafood main and couldnā€™t fault anything about the food or the service. I donā€™t know where the people who think this is expensive normally go for dinner. This was a proper fine dining menu for half the price of a ā€œfancyā€ restaurant. As a comparison, our meal here was cheaper by about 20% than the disappointing meal in the hotel the night before. This restaurant will be going on our itinerary for every trip to Arran from now on.

Having been regular visitors to Brodick Bar over many years of visiting Arran, we were, for the first time, sadly disappointed. On calling ahead to ask if our toddler could be accommodated with foods which was suited to his allergies, we were advised not. This, despite clear signage, indicating that allergens should be discussed with management. This did not daunt us as we elected to bring suitable food for him, ourselves. On arrival at the premises, which was not busy, service was slow and only a festive menu available, again despite an A La Carte menu being declared as available. We chose from the selection offered at 30 pounds for 2 courses, however when we tried to selct dessert, one dessert offering from an already unimaginative and limited choice of 4, was not available. One of our party elected to do without. When the bill arrived, we had been overcharged even at the price for two full courses each and we queried this while also pointing out that one of us only had a main course since the dessert menu was not all available. The bill was amended and at this point, the single main course charged at 24 pounds. We felt this a very unfair price for what was a very paltry offering. The whole experience was decidely average and seemed all about profit, not customer satisfaction. This had never been the case under the previous management and we will never be back.

Visited way back in August and my apologies for the delay in reviewing :(As far as we could tell all health and safety guidelines complied with.Up a bit of a back street and not much from the outside but lovely place inside with excellent service from all we encountered. The food was (mostly) really nice. However, my starter of scallops, though well cooked were a bit pricey at just under Ā£12.00 for 3 of the beauties. My bouillabaisse, while including a nice selection of fish, was a wee bit bland and more than a wee bit pricey at just under Ā£28.00 !I have seen feedback on previous reviews which mention price where the BB has justified their prices as on a par with other Arran establishments. We ate out 5 times during our week and the BB was by far the most expensive so unsure exactly where else they are referring to.In summary a really nice place with excellent service. Regrettably a bit over my pay grade to visit again :(

I have dined in many fine restaurants but rarely have I been so delighted by the food served up to me. I had no idea that the chef was a prize-winner when I booked our table, but was very excited by the food when it arrived, learning of the chefā€™s eminence only on our way out of the restaurant. I would imagine that this still only 20 year old chef has far to go. It would be worth heading over as a foot passenger from Ardrossan on a ferry late in the afternoon, and back again on the last ferry just for the enjoyment of eating here. A shout out to our waiter, Lachlan, too, who served with an endearing charm. When I enquired about a certain marinade, Lachlan not only enquired of the chef, but brought back a hand-written note from him, which I will treasure.

We went on our first evening on Arran so we didn't have a booking, but it was Thursday around 6.30 and they fitted us in. Its' a lovely place to eat - relaxed atmosphere, airy and modern. Friendly staff - from the owner who greeted us to our 16 year old server who was excellent, and a small menu - always a good sign. We don't have children but I was impressed that they had a children's menu along with the 'grown up' food. And the 'grown up' food was outstanding. We both had the scallops to start - then the fillet of beef and I had the roasted gnocchi. I'm not vegetarian but this was inspired - the flavours were so satisfying. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding and the elderflower parfait. the pudding was light, a fantastic caramel flavour, and a little chocolate surprise in the middle. The parfait was gorgeous - but the highlight for me was the strawberries and strawberry 'soup' that comes with it - I don't eat strawberries but I ate these. We had coffee and a drink in the beer garden of the bar. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Not cheap, but not Michelin prices, great value, and a very talented chef.

We were recommended here by our hotel and called on the off chance they might have a table for the same evening. I'm so glad we did as the food was incredible and the service was fantastic. We sat down to eat quite late and, by the end of our 3-course meal, we were the only people left but not once did we feel rushed to leave. Our servers were happy to share suggestions for things to do and see around the island.

We had dinner at this restaurant recently. We rang the previous evening to book a table and were told they were very busy and the only time available was 8 pm. They told us to ring the next day as there may have been a cancellation. We rang the following morning and were given a table for 6 pm. When we arrived the restaurant was almost empty which seemed a little strange. That said we were made to feel very welcome and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu was very limited and also expensive. My husband had a starter and we both had a main course and a bottle of wine which cost Ā£92. The food was okay but the portions were very small and we left feeling hungry. For those reasons we wouldn't eat there again nor would we recommend it to anyone else. Friendly staff though.

We had a lovely dinner before catching our ferry back.. delicious South African rose, enjoyed in the golden hour sunshine of the beer garden, to accompany probably the best beer battered fish (fresh off the boat at 4 this afternoon), mushy peas and chips we have ever tasted, and there have been many. The vegetarian gnocchi were a treat, as was the fresh asparagus starter. The staff were delightful and accommodating for all of our various dietary requirement we tend to bring with us. Literally nothing was too much - thank you for a perfect ending of a great day cycling around your beautiful island.

Just returned from our second visit to this restaurant within a couple of days. Didnā€™t expect to find a restaurant of this quality on a small Scottish island, which compares excellently with places we were used to frequenting in Belgium and France. Food and wine was of the highest standard and their very young staff excellently trained. We hope there will be opportunities to come back in future.

Although the menu has been reduced the restaurant still offers a good variety . Service and staff were excellent and the food quality was 10/10. We both had fillet steak and different desserts and well as a kids meal. Our only regret was not sampling their starters but aim to do so when we return in October. Well done Brodick Bar & Brasserie team.

On Thursday 8th July, we had dinner. The meal was good but very disappointed that some staff had no face coverings. When I challenged the boss, the reason given was 'asthma. I was not impressed and subsequently cancelled lunch for next day. Considering the extent of Covid on the island, with many other businesses closing due to staff testing positive with Covid19 this was to my mind irresponsible .

Manage your expectations. Iā€™ve gone contrary to most reviews for what I think are good reasons. I agree that good quality ingredients are essential to make good dishes but good quality doesnā€™t necessarily mean expensive. Good quality ingredients particularly if they are expensive should be treated well to elevate a dish to the realms of excellent or very good. On the day we went, our orders included Ayrshire fillet of beef, halibut and hand diver scallops. However, despite the stated provenance we thought the meal was average - perhaps the kitchen had an off day? The fillet was done medium rare as requested but didnā€™t have a nice crust and was under seasoned, the accompanying fondant was firm, and the red wine jus lacked depth of flavour. The rest of the garnish was modest sized and average. The scallops were either small king or large queen sized and overcooked. The halibut fillet was the tail end, small, overcooked, over seasoned and dry without any evidence of coagulated protein (white stuff) suggesting that it may have been frozen rather than fresh. I canā€™t even recall the garnishes - they were that average. The vegan starter of roasted cauliflower was sweet upon sweet with very little variation outside of soft textures. The ambience is more publike rather than gastro pub or fine dining and the service was reminiscent of hard trying amateurs but amateurs nonetheless. The establishment is catering to a captive audience but this is not sufficiently high enough standard of cooking, nor blend of flavours and or textures, or experience to justify the price tags. One reviewer mentioned circa Ā£17/19 for two courses but I can assure you those are not from the a la carts menu. Mains ranged from Ā£18/28. All in all an ok experience but itā€™s telling that post meal I felt I had to have an Arran cheese board with Arran chutney to feed my pangs. Using less expensive but still good quality ingredients to address better concerns about value for money but doubt that the management will see this as a priority unless a good competitor comes along.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago after reading the good reviews . It was a massive disappointment. The food itself was ok, nothing to write home about but ok. But the portions were tiny and I think that Ā£28 for a small 6 oz steak with barely any veg was way too expensive. I had the pea & mint risotto, a snip at Ā£18, and we both left still hungry. Our complaint was met with an explanation from the manager that things were more expensive on an island because of added transport costs. I am well aware of this argument and accept that prices will be slightly higher, but that is no reason not to provide adequately sized portions. We were offered desserts but I really did not want to spend any more time in a restaurant that treats it customers as cash-cows. Weā€™ve eaten out several times in the last few weeks -very happily-and this was by far the poorest experience.

After conquering goatfell and getting engaged at the summit, we needed somewhere for a victory Dinner. Being a former barman myself I cannot recommend the cocktails enough, the margarita was one of the best I've had. The service was fantastic (from Alexander the waiter) very attentitive without being overbearing and we were regaled by the chief sommelier (we think it was one of the owners) about the history of some of the fantastic food. The food itself was delicious, I only wish there was more of it. We had the scallops and steak tartar both tremendous followed by the bouilibasse and the Ayrshire fillet very tasty. It was pricey but we were celebrating so if you are a good mood and have saved the pennies, get yourself here for dinner.

What a spectacular meal. I tried to order it a second time to takeaway because I loved it so much. We had the scallops, heirloom tomatoes, halibut (x2), sticky toffee pudding, elderflower parfait, and pineapple carpaccio. Oh and the fennel bread, my god that bread. The dishes were sublime, beautifully composed, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly fresh. I hate peas, like, really hate them and this halibut dish is the singular time Iā€™ve eaten peas all the way through and I would have eaten an entire bowl of them.We had the pleasure of being served by Newt who was attentive without being overbearing and truly lovely to talk to. Newt, please teach a masterclass in service, the UK needs a boatload more servers like you! Graeme, the manager was great to talk to, he knows his wine and and it was nice to hear about where they source the local ingredients from. In short it was a fantastic dining experience, and we canā€™t wait to return. Kudos to the young chef who should be on every food radar in Scotland, heā€™s one to keep an eye on!

Sorry but I have to correct the innaccuracies Laura:We arrived 20 minutes late - 5 of our party had climbed Goatfell and mis calculated bus times and had to do a brisk walk back to Brodick. Our other party member arrievd on time.We had been looking for a Bar menu really and had assumed from the name that there would be bar food options. We asked our waiter politely if if was ok instead of eating to just take our wine which had already arrive out to the beer garden. We were told this was fine.We paid for the wine in full as you know. To say we underpaid is simply untrue.Regarding rudeness, you told us we had been "nothing but trouble since we arrived".You asked us to finish our drinks and leave (given we had paid for them this seemed only fair) which we were in the process of doing when your male collegue then returned and said leave now and physically removed our drinks from us.

By far, this is the best restaurant in Brodick. We had a very nice meal here last night. Super menu with food which is not just 'pub grub' and very helpful and efficient staff who made us feel very welcome. Portions a nice size and food well presented and absolutely delicious. My husband had hallibut which was very nice, I had fillet steak and it was beautifully cooked. For dessert, I had elderflower parfait with strawberry soup - possibly the best dessert I have ever had. We also shared a cheese board with a glass of port/sherry and the cheese selection was excellent with cheese we had never had before. Our only disappointment is that we discovered the Brodick Bar on the last evening of our holiday!

I'm not sure what has happened over the past couple of years to cause such a deterioration in service, but I have often recommended this establishment as a place to visit whilst on the island, due to it's ambience and the great selection of food. Sadly this will no longer be the case. Having been a Tourism professional for over 25years I'm acutely aware of the importance of such recommendations, especially to our remote communities but feel compelled to take this off my list after my experience with friends at the weekend. However this does not reflect badly on the island people nor it's other establishments, which are plentiful, who were welcoming, and delivered great food and customer service.

A much awaited meal of a much awaited weekend break certainly did not disappoint. In common with many good restaurants, COVID has meant that the restaurant has moved to doing a few good dishes well rather than having many, many specials. All of the dishes we ate were excellently put together and cooked to perfection. Seasoning was spot on.It says a lot about a restaurant when the explanation of the cheeseboard takes up a quarter of the menu. Each of the cheeses were very good with lovely paired crackers. We had 2 cheese boards between 3 which was ideal.Sadly a slight delay in getting started and a hard appointment with a taxi booking meant we had to rush the end of the meal but the service was attentive without being overbearing. They also understood the nuances of island taxi services and managed to make sure that this did not impact. If you are going to be on Arran over the summer, then this is a must. However, I would suggest booking well in advance or it will be fully booked if Level 2 restrictions continue.

Turned up and asked about some take away fish and chips. It seems the bar was too busy but they could give us a table in half an hour. So we waited half an hour in the car and watched the activities out on the water. When we came in at our allocated time still no table, so we were sat at the "non bookable" table beside the kitchen. It was actually very cosy and we were quite happy there if not in the middle of the action! Fish and chips was delicious. Didn't have anything else as only wanted carry out originally!
