We parked in the village to do a nearby walk ( Chiltern Way) and were hungry on getting back to the car. Having seen this beautiful- looking pub earlier, we made a bee- line for it. A cheery bar person took our order for the Sunday roast which we opted for pork and beef. We then took our drinks into the pretty garden which overlooked the village green. Within 15 mins, we were shown to our table where two huge dinners took pride of place. We are not big eaters but there was more than enough food and plenty of meat both types which were tender, juicy and very tasty. Why this pub wasn't busier I don't know but it is worth the 10 min driver from Harpenden or 20 from Luton hands-down. Only slight critical comment is that the loud music from the. speaker at the open window is not necessary, the food, service and pleasant surroundings are sufficient.

This was a fabulous find. A rare ‘proper’ traditional village pub. Great pub food … we had the scampi, couldn’t fault it. Lovely seating area outside. It was so nice to spend time in a traditional pub garden … not in yet another ex-village pub that has been turned into a so-called bistro. The best thing about our visit was the service. Great customer service is so hard to find these days …. The Bright Star landlord dished it out by the bucketload. So refreshing! We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours here …. and I look forward to returning! Please support this little village pub … they’re a dying breed!

I took a group of 30 plus for our long awaited Christmas get together and Guy and the team could not have been more enthusiastic and ready to help me make this a great night! The dartboard was a focal point, the food was fantastic and the karaoke was an added bonus! We will definitely be back for a summer party too! Would recommend to everyone, for dinner or a couple of drinks or looking to do an event of sorts like we did.

Lovely Country pub on the village green. Plenty of parking and beautiful garden for the summer. We parked up and spoke to the landlord to establish lunch timings and to say we would be back after our walk. An hour later we returned, to roaring log fire and two super roasts one beef, one pork. Certainly a large plateful, but also week cooked and presented. A pint of well kept McMullen mild and cider rounded off a great visit. Would highly recommend.

Went for dinner. Food was average, but the welcome was non existent. A dog, which I think belonged to the landlords was jumping on the furniture and then it was licking one of the empty plates which had not been cleared at another table. Although we live locally we will definitely not be visiting this pub again and will certainly not be recommending it.

I went to the bright star on Saturday 24th April for a few drinks and to enjoy their BBQ with some friends. It’s a really beautiful pub garden, but possibly the worst service I’ve ever received. To start, the drinks order was wrong (1 of us was given a half pint when we asked for a pint). We flagged down the waitress and informed her and her response was ‘sorry, I didn’t take the order’......well that’s not the point is it? Extremely rude. We then asked for a full pint, which took about 20 minutes to arrive (we had to ask twice). Then on to the food....we ordered 6 cheeseburgers, 3 of them with bacon as well. When the food arrived, the lady bought over 2 cheeseburgers and said sorry we have no bacon....(should have told us this when we ordered then?). To make things worse, she said all she had on the order was 2 cheeseburgers......when we ordered 6! So there were 4 of us having to then wait for burgers to be cooked. The chips were also massively undercooked. Then the final straw was we went inside to pay the bill, and were left waiting for 10 minutes as the man behind the bar was too busy trying to pull pints for other orders. Totally disorganised and the worst service I’ve ever experienced, I wouldn’t bother visiting again until they perhaps give their staff some training on basic customer service.

We enjoyed a refreshing Guinness in the outdoor section of this friendly pub - first such experience since 14 March. On 28 June we had met the landlord when he was in the process of preparing for a soft reopening - he allowed us to eat our sandwiches in the outdoor area and even came over with an umbrella when rain came. Such good customer awareness deserves reward and we shall have some food next time we visit. A pleasant view is provided across the village of Peters Green - worth a visit for walkers and locals alike.

The Bright Star has yet another new Manager/cook but this time hopefully Guy and his daughter Charlie will stay on long term. Guy cooked a wonderful meal for my family and friends last Sunday for my 70th. The roasts were amazing and everyone who had chosen the vegetarian option was very pleased. 24 was a large number to sit down for a meal in a small village pub, especially when the rugby was on, which made things difficult for everyone. Charlie worked hard to serve us all about the same time while being run off her feet keeping an eye on the new barmaid and also serving drinks. The home made starters and deserts were simple honest pub food to compliment the roasts. I would be happy to recommend the Bright Star for a meal with friends or family, but perhaps not when the rugby is on next time.

The steak was cooked to perfection with a tasty shallot and stilton sauce; the burger and lamb went down well and the puds were to die for. There was a great atmosphere and the well kept beer slipped down a treat! We had lunch inside. Lovely traditional roast dinner followed by a generous pudding. All reasonably priced. Went here for Lunch after a cycle ride through the lanes. Fantastic place, proper Pub with pool and darts in the public bar and set up nicely for food in the lounge side. Good beer & good food with a selection of specials. Staff really friendly and attentive and asking for slight changes to the offered menu was no trouble at all. Open fires in both bars would be great in winter.

I took my elderly father who has dementia to the Bright Star on the back of recommendations from other reviewers and was really delighted with the meal and the welcome we enjoyed. There was only one other couple having lunch but that did not deter the cordial welcome and engagement from Sally and Jack and their son who was manning the bar. They couldn't have been more attentive and were never intrusive. The food was as you would expect from a rural pub, tasty and wholesome which was great for my dad who is a bit fussy about his food but loved the sausage and mash and even followed up with ice cream. The beer was good and my dad enjoyed his white wine. I would definitely come back again if I was in the area.

My wife and I had walked the dog, didn't fancy cooking so popped in the Bright Star with dog in tow. We were welcomed and made to feel at home. Food was excellent - sirloin was cooked just as we like it. Beer was well maintained. Very good value for money. Good food in a relaxed atmosphere.

A rare thing in this day & age - a proper country pub with great pub food, huge portions and a warm welcome whatever the time of day or day of the week. You feel like a local from the first time you go in & it's everything a village pub should be & more. Sally, the landlady, has turned this place around & other McMullen pubs should take note. Treats for the dog and for you......especially if the chicken goujons are on the specials board! This is good walking and cycling country & you might even find a couple of horses tethered in the big garden. If it's too cold to sit outside, they also have 2 open fires so it's very easy to while away an afternoon here. More pubs should go back to this format as it's a win-win for everyone.

What a great dog friendly pub. We were greeted warmly, served quickly but without being rushed. The roast dinner was yummy and plenty of it. Everyone was just so lovely. The locals were very friendly too. Our dog was spoilt rotten with lots of love and a treat or two. I would highly recommend a visit and there are a couple of circular walks too which bring you back to the pub so you can eat then return for a pint. Thanks for a super visit.

The family who run The Bright Star are courteous and very friendly. Good pub food and and a very pleasant environment inside and out make it our favourite. Over the past year we have become regular customers because of the way they welcome us and our dog who has been thoroughly spoilt by staff and customers alike.

This is my dogs nose after a visit to the local village pub on Friday evening, where a dog sitting at the bar (with its owner) carried out an unprovoked attack on our dog. We were then told, by the barman, that the dog is knowingly unsocial..! With blood dripping from his nose we sat outside for a quick drink. We didn't get shown any concern from the Landlady herself or an apology from her. Surely she should accept some responsibility for letting a knowingly unsocial dog sit in her pub?? I was prepared to let this slide until this evening when I walked my other dog past the pub and I got an unnecessary 'joke' about my dog being vicious, while the landlady just sat there and smirked..! Thankfully our doggys wound has been checked by the vet; it is a deep cut but healing nicely. Needless to say I will not be revisiting the pub anytime soon and I just hope that the owner of this dog thinks twice about taking his animal to a public place and it doesn't cause any future harm to another dog or (god forbid) a human being.

Visited here before going on a walk. Very friendly and drinks and food reasonably priced. Good pub grub. My only criticisms would be the hanging baskets looked in need of TLC and there were a lot of dog-ends around the outside seating area. All in all though it is a good pub and we will be returning.

A proper country pub, friendly and welcoming.Beer good, and nice food. Willing to do children size portions for me when I am cycling, the full-size ham egg and chips is too generous if you have to pedal home.Entertaining events too: top quality darts and occasional pub quizzes. If you can't pedal there you could drive and park (plenty of space) and then do a circular walk ... along Farrs Lane then right and right again back across the fields. It makes the home made soup or burger taste even better, and helps to work up a thirst. And you will probably see a Buzzard or Red Kite. They have a book library, and local fresh eggs for sale.Enjoy it, a little of the beaten track but well worth the detour.

The Bright Star is a lovely country pub with great McMullen's beer and good simple food at a low price. The special burger (home made meatballs) was really nice with hot chips and salad. The soup was homemade and delicious. Friendly staff. Will be back

The Star has, yet again, changed hands and is now run (from mid-October 2013) by Sally and Andrew, together with their son Jack.Since their take-over the quality of the beers has improved significantly and the menu has been "rebalanced" away from the gastro-pub towards proper country pub food (all of which is home cooked from fresh ingredients. The village (Peters Green) is quiet and although close to both Luton and Harpenden doesn't really have much passing traffic - it's almost on the road to nowhere, which is why its only pub is a favourite with the locals. You have to make the effort to get there, but the pub is open (as is the kitchen) from 12 am until late, daily.Go on, give it a try.

Between the village of Kimpton and the town of Luton lies a little hamlet known as Peters Green, some say St. Peters Green of Perry Green. Here you will find a McMullen pub, The Bright Star. McMullen is the local brewery based at the County seat Hertford, the pub is on the border between Herts. and Beds.their ale said by some to be an acquired taste. July the licensee keeps a good pint and you will never get a more freindly welcome anywhere. Her 'helper' Jenny can teach many a thing in geetings and hospitality. The food at first appears expensive but when you receive your order it is worth the cost. My wife had a milky coffee and a brie, bacon and cranberry biquite, too much for her so I had to help her out! This is the place to slow down, relax and take stock no rush here, you can also buy some really, really fresh eggs, I'm surprised the're not still warm. Have a little drive out some fine day and feel at ease in the country.
