The current licensees at The Brewers are just about to celebrate 30 years in charge. When discussing this with a friend of mine recently he commented “well it has to be the best family-run Free House in the country doesn’t it?” My friend is a knowledgeable, well-travelled frequenter of UK pubs (which I like to think applies equally to me) who is not prone to hyperbole, but at the time I did think this sounded a bit OTT. However, the more I think about it, the more I think he may well be right. The range and quality of real ales and ciders is consistently superb (long-term Good Beer Guide entrant) and the new wave of craft beers (draught and canned) has been fully embraced. The food is the best value in Lewes, there’s two separate - and distinctly different - bars, one with a pool table, dart board and juke box, the other bar a fair bit quieter… An annual Beer Festival and a quiz most Bank Holiday weekends add something different and special. But most special of all are the people at the helm. Kathy and Liam, supported by their team of kitchen and bar staff, work tirelessly to provide an environment that is consistently warm and welcoming. You are made to feel part of the Brewers family, and that is a great honour. Happy 30th, Brewers.

Chose this pub as it was an independent, family run pub, and I want to support pubs like this. Booked for lunch. Friendly service in the pub. Had a pint of Harvey's which was excellent. Lunch was 1/2lb cheeseburger with chunky chips. My wife had soup of the day (pumpkin and butternut squash) with a roll. Both were really good. Chips were proper chunky chips, served piping hot. Card payments accepted. I have a friend called Harvey, so landlord let me buy a glass for him (contribution to Hospice charity). Gave me a few beer mats as well. Support this pub. Too many like this are closing.

Great pub, great beer, and great food. I’ve been going to this pub with my parents for over 20 years and it hasn’t lost any of its charm. It’s the benchmark by which I judge any other pub. Today was different however, I witnessed the staff in their element. A very difficult customer came into the front bar with an absolutely unjustified, unwarranted, and false complaint. The staff handled the situation beautifully against what was an appalling tirade of abuse. The best pub in Lewes has just galvanised its position as the best pub in Lewes. Well done!

I've been a regular at The Brewers for many years & highly recommend a visit. Located in Lewes High Street (where the road narrows to 1-way operation controlled by traffic lights) the front bar is a cosy smallish room. Head to the right & through a door to a much larger room at the back. Tends to be quieter here & little bit soulless. Fantastic changing range of real cask ales. Mostly local brews but will also source from around UK. Food is recommended; nothing pretentious, but delicious & hearty. Lewes is blessed with many superb pubs & pub crawls around Lewes town centre can be very rewarding🍺👍 Include The Brewers Arms as a quench stop.

Met two friends for drinks, lunch and a long-awaited catch up. It was quite busy but we had a table booked. Great, friendly service. An extensive menu with loads of choices. My friends had scampi & chips and the chips were delicious!! I could have made a better choice this time. I had the satay chicken & rice with prawn crackers which was very tasty with loads of chicken. However, I had thought it would have a satay sauce so was rather dry for my liking. My fault for not checking beforehand. I would definitely go again and just have something different. The burgers looked really good.

The pub is straight out of bygone age, which is nice but unfortunately the quality of the food is from a bygone age as well. I had the buttered chicken and rice. The chicken was tough and dry, there wasn't enough sauce, although what was there was quite nice. It came with prawn crackers ? Indian food has poppadoms, Chinese has prawn crackers. My wife's fish and chips had burnt batter and peas that were rock hard. I should have complained at the time but didn't want it to mar our day out in Lewes.
