The Boythorpe Fryer in Chesterfield

I have been recently and there food was divine my husband tried the fish and kebab and said it was the best fish he had ever had will definitely be going again

would have given 5 stars but the chips could have been cooked a little longer and we were 3 mins down the road and it was all only just warm we put it all in the air fryer saveloy was warmed in the microwave it was stone cold went in the bin we don't reheat pork shame hadn't had one for years was looking forward to it

Lovely food friendly staff not overpriced

Awful food micro cheese and onion pie just mush no filling at all plus chips that were brown and raw inside . Changed owners and they definitely need to sort out the cooking. Hardly hard to cook that . Plus full English sausages no idea what they were very lacking plus just cheap and nasty

First chipshop in Chesterfield that cooks food properly. Batter is lighr and crispy, not soggy. Good variety. Scampi curry is great.

Fish cake was inedible & fish & chips were accompanied with a mouldy lemon, so the whole meal went in the bin. If it had not been for the fact that we would have had to walk all the way back after a very long day at work, we would have taken the whole lot back & asked for a refund. However we won’t be returning. Pity we weren’t able to post the photos we took on here of the mouldy food.

The food is nice .... reasonable price plus it's a decent fish and chip shop.

Stopped off for some chips in the way home from a night out trick or trearing with the children, gave the kids some sweets each and the chips were really good when we got home.

Horrendous lunch. Ordered meat and potato pie with mushy peas. After 40 minutes in an empty pub the food arrived, we got garden peas that were cold, accompanied by luke warm pie and cold gravy. The 'meat'in the pie was disgusting more fat than meat which was too tough to eat anyway. Sent the food back and got a refund. Ended up with a bag of mini cheddars for lunch. As a regular customer for 40 years this is it we won't be returning!

Excellent fish and chips - fresh, well cooked and delicious! Very nicely presented and the fresh lemon and tartar sauce was a great addition. Staff members are extremely friendly - your kindness after a long day cleaning up after the flood was truly welcome. I will definitely be back 😀

Having lunched here several times our last visit was not good at all. The service and food availability was poor and we returned today with some trepidation. However couldn't fault anything. Very attentive customer service and excellent food. We definitely will return - thanks to Debbie

Just moved into the area & so glad to have found this amazing Chippy! Friendly service & staff that care. Nice little touches like lemon wedge & tartare sauce with the fish & buttered bread cobs. Perfect chips, beautiful fish & the best fish cakes I have ever had. The Boythorpe Fryer is the best chippy in Chesterfield.

On this occasion the portion size was a bit small for a regular more like small, but will go agai.

Best fish and chips in town, my only moan is they run out of their mushy peas too often.

Visited The Boythorpe last night for food and we both chose the chicken and mushroom pie on the specials menu. As soon as our food was brought to us we were offered an additional gravy boat but there was plenty on the plate. The pie contained lots of filling and they hadn’t scrimped on the chicken. The chef came out to see if the food was OK. Excellent food at reasonable prices. We will be returning.

Food was good but 5 pieces of scampy, a few chips and a spoonful of peas for £8.95 was disappointing. Definitely not value for money....tiny portion.

I ordered large Haddock and mushy peas. The fish was cooked to order and was coated in the lightest,crispiest batter. No soggy layer of raw batter between the fish and the crispy batter..........Delicious. lovely hot proper mushy peas. I bought Yorkshire fishcakes for mother(not easily pleased) and she said it too was delicious.

Enjoyed a great family meal for 10 people at the Boythorpe, so pleased it is serving food again. Boythorpe burger & Hunters chicken highly recommended.

Have now been 3 times since Debbie and her team tool over. Food is brilliant value for money and the service is excellent . Will continue to support Debbie and her team. PLEASE give it a try.

We used to visit regularly before Covid but it went downhill after that. Been a few times this year, great food, good prices and brilliant staff. I would recommend you give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Called in for a meal, had an all day breakfast, husband had a Boythorpe Burger with home made chips. The portions were generous. Both meals were delicious, staff were attentive and checked we had all we needed. I would say call in and see for your self.

Fancied something hot for dinner on a cold wet day like today, Was recomended the boythorpe fryer by a friend, i normally use union jack or duke street. Glad i did, friendly greeting, order mini fish specail mixed curry n pea n hot chilli dauce, wrapped in a polystrene tray n paper. Got back to site, still lovely and hot, fish was very fresh and of good size for a fish bite chips tasty good to. Very nice, thank you team boythorpe like Arnie says, ill be back!

Usually excellent but chips were sharp scratchy bits not at all fleshy potato.

We had a great fish and chips from here. Fish batter was crispy and the fish seemed fresh. The chips were also good. Our kids has scampi which was very much enjoyed. Service was with a smile.

The cheesecake was out of this world fantastic!!

Great chippy, lovely fish 'n chips and the chicken kebabs are glorious!! Staff are lovely too, they always make you feel welcome. Give it a try!!

Great chips but staff need a maths lesson. Tried to give me the wrong change twice in separate occasions by the same lady. 🤦

Only had the chips as vegan, but happy to hear they are vegan and have a dedicated fryer to the chips which are cooked in vegetable oil! Tasted good as well!

Clean and tidy place, inside and outside. Plenty of space for people inside waiting and for cars outside. Good prices, fair service time. Food isn't bad. Good deals available.

Was mediocre, think it's gone down hill alot. Chip where hardly cooked, battered sausage was extremely crispy. Didn't look to clean when we went in. The kids menu sign that up looks disgustingly dirty. Won't be going back. Expecting quantity food and got cr*p.

Have recommended so many times. . Bitterly disappointed tonight...Asked for a crispy chicken breast....did not get one...they admitted it wasn't crispy so gave me 2. Both were soggy ....and charged me for both. Massive let down

When for two large cod only had small ones so they gave us two small ones to make up for not having any large ones so we got four the price of two large one David

Tried Boythorpe Fryer for the first time this evening. Although they were about to close (8.30pm) fresh fish and chips were cooked for us. Friendly staff. The fish was amazing - fresh, beautifully flaky and really tasty. Great chips too-not at all greasy! We will be back!

Great chippy, Food is amazing as are the staff who I can't praise high enough, I was on the way home late at night from work wet through due to the rain, went in to get some chips and because it was about to close they gave me extra, fishcakes, chips and potato fritters all because I was freezing and soaked but wouldn't take extra money as it was going to be binned, definitely go see them and you'll be supporting local small businesses, which is never a bad thing.

This 'plaice', was beyond all my expectations, over recent years 'chippies' seem to be profit driven, micro pies, cheap spuds and terrible peas/gravy. NOT THIS PLACE, ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL. They understand that quality is utmost and people will flood back. Be prepared to queue but it's REALLY REALLY worth it. 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋

I have lived in Chesterfield all my life and everything about the Boythorpe Fryer is excellent. The staff are lovely the food is excellent. Without doubt the best fish and chips in the area. Once tried you will not go anywhere else

Really good generous portions, good value, very tasty. My partner qualified for the senior meal deal (he's 60) he was a little disappointed that they didn't check his ID (lol, obviously looks his age) but his 3 courses for £7.49 was far from disappointing. Will definitely return. Thank you 👍

Ordered mini fish chips and beans....cost £5.10. I could have had mini fish chips, sausage and a can of coke for £4.50. Didn't want the sausage or coke. Beans not worth 60p for the quantity added. why the blatant rip-off?? Fish had no taste and...

After a morning of training with the kids we needed to refuel quickly and called in for a battered sausage to share in the car. Pretty busy and had to wait for chips, but it was worth it.

Wonderful food but staff need a change of attitude. A smile would not hurt and would be nice to feel your custom is welcome.
