The Bothy Restaurant and Bar in Highland

Arrived on sat night to have a meal with our two kids. Unfortunately no bookings were being taken and when we arrived the tables outside were full. Asked if we could sit at the tables in the canal side. Waitress said she'd have to ask. The man behind the bar stated it was going to down pour. All that had to be said was "yes that's no problem and of it rains you can come inside". Extremely rude and unwelcoming. Went to the chippy instead and hours later it still hadn't rained. Basically, happier to keep the pints flying out to locals out the back than accommodate a family for dinner. Won't ever be back and will not be recommending.

Popped in for a light lunch. Friendly & efficient staff - good prices & selection. Good location for the centre of Fort Augustus.

Just so glad that the Bothy was still offering food and drink so soon after restrictions have been relaxed.Lovely as it was 3yrs ago and staff still very friendly/warm & welcoming considering and really appreciated that after a long walk.Thanks once again and hope more UK residents visit the beautiful Fort Augustus and come to The Bothy for a bite to eat and watch the boats rising/descending the locks until we can receive international visitors again without quarantine.Wishing you the very best to keep operational.x

We had lunch today and Covid restrictions were adhered to. We had soup and fish cakes and both were ok just lacking flavour. Little things like the salad had no dressing. The prices however were very reasonable.

Good food and friendly service. Beer tent outside for a pre or post meal alcoholic drink, although a little chilly on the day we visited.

Friendly staff, fantastic food and great service. Easy and clear COVID guidelines will well spaced out tables and clear 1 way system.

Great food ,I had the homemade steak pie really nice ,my good lady had the loch Linnie salmon, good portions and very tasty ,and good value for money all covid practices in placce

We were delighted to find somewhere in fort Augustus not only open but happy to welcome our black Labrador too. The Bothey scored on all fronts, great menu, great food and a really warm welcome from the owner and all the bar staff and very covid safe. Our dog was loving all of the attention. Lovely and well worth a visit.

The Bothy looked really appealing from the outside. However once inside we found the owner/waitress to be far to straightforward which bordered on rudeness. In this time of Covid 19 we understand the rules and regulations however there is a way of explaining things to customers in a polite and friendly manner. The woman appeared to be irritated that we had come to the restaurant and was too abrupt for my liking. Doing business is important at this time and upsetting customers is probably not the best idea. This is honestly something to work on for them. I will never return because of this rudeness. RUDENESS is never acceptable!

The staff of The Bothy were unbelievably rude.We appreciate that everyone is operating under very trying conditions and this must be extremely frustrating for all businesses. We also appreciate we asked for a table at 5pm and we had to leave the premises by 6pm. Instead of tutting and looking at your watch you could have just asked if we understood the rules. Instead you took our order and then your colleague came over and was even ruder. If you were unable to cook salmon or steak in under 20 minutes, why not tell us the menu would be restricted due to time constraints? (By the way, if your salmon does take 20 minutes it is well overdone!)Instead you thought it appropriate to loudly tell us that if we hadn’t finished eating by 6pm you would box our food and we would be asked to leave the premises. You also proceeded to call us after we left, in earshot of friends and family. You were also very rude to a customer on the phone within earshot of your customers. I hope your business survives this crisis, I really do, but the attitude of the staff you are employing is not encouraging customers to visit.The fish and chips we got from the other end of the street more than made up for the disappointment of being spoken to so rudely and were a fraction of the money we would have spent with you.

In general the restaurant it’s ok. Friendly staff, covid restriction really good, clean. But we came there after a boat trip cold and hungry, ordered a food and big disappointment COLD FOOD arrived. I ordered a soup of the day was tasty but slightly worm ‍♀️ My daughter kids menu Steak Pie exactly that same slightly worm although she enjoyed I can definitely say I’m not going to visit this place again.

Service was really bad! When we go in, the (b word) waitress was started shouting to us, she said that we have to wait. We come from other country so we don’t quite understand what they saying, we walked a little step forward, then the waitress shouted to let us get back! What a (f word) service! when we sat down, I asked for they to suggest us some food, one of them said what do we want to eat, she said that we can just tell her what we want to eat, and said that we are having problems with speaking and listening. Okay then, we ignored that and said nothing. we just point out what we want to eat, THEN we wait for like half an hour and still nobody serve us food. we asked for some water but they keep forgetting. undercooked fish make me sick! when we go they said nothing and looks very angry when paying, like they are afraid we don’t pay and said we’d better go now! RUBBISH!

Stopped here for lunch. A great lunch menu with something for everyone. Service was sharp and the portions good.

Managed to get in here the night before the 6 o’clock lock down. Very accommodating and lovely food.

Good sized portions and really nice, quality food. Would definitely return and it was probably the best meal of our trip.

Staff are great, food is brilliant, both food and drinks very reasonable. Had salmon to start and steak for mains. Both excellent portions and just what you want with both, steak, chips fried onions mushrooms and a dash of salad Was lush x

Walked in about 3 or 4pm on a Tuesday. Woman behind the bar was working alone. She was short with us and others but we gave her the benefit of the doubt due to covid and strict regulations (mask, sign-in, one way system). Got busy with staff and customers at 5pm when restaurant opened. We were left alone for while after being told it was table service. We asked 2 young girls on the floor if we could order food point at some point. They explained we could order at any time as we were at a table. Many were arriving now and were being turned away as there's no reservation taking/waiting list - they were sitting people outside (in cold and rain but under a tent) who could wait for a table for restaurant. At 6pm a waitress asked if we wanted to order. We asked if we could wait until 6.30pm to which the girl said YES but an old man behind the bar suddenly barked at us "there are people outside in the cold and rain waiting for a table. If you want to order, you should order now!" The waitress replied that it was fine and that there was no one outside waiting... We were immediately embarrassed and confused as to why we were being shouted at in front of a full bar of other guests. We wanted to leave but ordered, ate and left. Food was bland, bought in frozen. Only friendly staff was dark-haired-pony-tailed gent behind the bar. We thanked everyone for everything and apologised for any inconvenience but after reading the reviews see that rudeness is common here.

Very pleasant and efficient staff. The choice on the menu was excellent. I had the salmon with lemon butter which was delicious my husband had a rump steak and it was very good. There is an excellent selection of malt whisky. The Bothy has a lovely ambiance. Due to Covid 19 there are restrictions which are explained to you on entering the premises.

We stopped here for a drink after The Lock Inn, it was a busy Saturday night and no inside tables for just a drink, but we were offered a table outside, waitress very friendly.

Turned up without a reservation and they were full. Put our name down for the next available table and were told the wait could be up to an hour, all fair enough. Were then told we had to wait in a tent by the rear kitchen access in their car park. Asked if we could walk by the canal locks which were at the front of the restaurant (they had our phone number and could have called us) but were abruptly told that unless we were in their car park when the table was called they would move on straightaway to the next person. Went instead to the Lock pub next door where they were also full inside but were able to have a decent fish and chips on an outside table overlooking the locks within 15 minutes and with a much friendlier service!

Very enjoyable meal during a trip to Fort Augustus. We have been here before and the food never disappoints.

Visited during a stay at Appin House. Food excellent, service great and attention to covid guidance spot on. Would highly recommend

muirin was great from the start the rest of staff were arguing it was funny Food was really good plenty of it and the rest of the staff started being fun again we liked it . Thumbs up emoji.. Happy face

Went for lunch today as there weren't many places open.The burger they served tasted like and probably was a frozen burger from Iceland.Had a look at other guests sandwiches and baguettes which also looked like they were being served on a budget.Wouldn't recommend

I visited here following a recommendation. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to ruin a cheese and onion toastie but it was awful. It was so dry and squashed and tasted like chip fat. Never again!

We had a day hillwalking on Ben Nevis. And drove to fort Augustus after. We had dinner for 8 at the boathouse and walked along the canal to hopefully find a place to have a few drinks. We entered the Bothy and the owner seemed friendly enough and said as we were 4 couples. We could sit in the conservatory. Happy days. But then he seemed to get cold feet and said we could sit outside in the cold and he would serve us there. We declined and walked along the canal 50 yards to the wonderful Lock Inn. Where the friendly staff sat us at tables where we were socially distanced and served us some great whisky and beers. I realise that the way things are at the moment everybody has to be on their toes to protect their business , but to do it in such an impolite and off hand manner left a sour taste. Thank goodness for the Lock Inn.

We ate here both nights we were in Fort Augustus. Good selection on the menu. Good choice for vegetarians. Lots of specials available as well. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Food was great fish and steak pie great wait staff where not great playing with there hair mask on off took twenty minute to clear our dinner plate they stood as service station chatting playing with hair cleaned tables but not chair !! Covid

Went yesterday with some friends, we were put off with some reviews last month so we never went when we were in town then. Yesterday we decided to go and try for ourselves. Glad we did, staff were friendly, food was amazing and the price was not what as steep as were expecting so an amazing visit and will definitely be visiting again. Would definitely recommend to people. Only downside was the one way system but that is understandable in the current climate.

Stopped in for afternoon drinks. Looked like nice dinner menu, kitchen was closed & didn’t reopen till 5. Quite cold inside (doors wide open- not sure if due to covid).

Dropped in for dinner after a wee trip on the Ness. First class food, highly recommended. The steak pie is one of the best I’ve every had. Will certainly be back.

On my trip to Fort Augustus last year, I visited The Bothy Restaurant and Bar in Fort Augustus. I enjoyed my visit and my meal despite the fact that The Bothy was very busy and crowded that evening. While I waited to be seated in the restaurant section, I enjoyed the comfort and features of the bar. The bar area of the Bothy appears to be the original - and quite charismatic - section of the Bothy and the restaurant section, which is obviously a later addition to the facility, is more modern and lacks a lot of the charm and uniqueness of the bar area.Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time in both sections and my meal was tasty and enjoyable with good, friendly service (which was also true of the bar staff). The Bothy Restaurant and Bar is located Canalside right on the corner with the main street in Fort Augustus. It is a very convenient location for travellers and visitors to Fort Augustus.

Visited for lunch. Instructed to sanitise hands which we were in the process of doing , shown to our table and the person explained the one way system and how to get to the toilet. Once you've been, you need to go back out of the building, walk around and back in the entrance and re-sanitise. Not a problem. Food was amazing. My husband had steak pie, meat was very tender, best we've tasted. Portions were large, not the cheapest but well worth the money. Atmosphere could be friendlier, though I understand people are apprehensive in these times. Would definitely return.

We were lucky enough to get a table in this cosy wee pub on a busy summer, wet evening, as it is first come first serve and no bookings taken. What a great meal we had and even managed to get a table in the bar to enjoy a few drinks after. Would highly recommend.Great pub, great value for money, fantastic and helpful staff

Place looked really nice, started came with main course, food was average but expensive. Didn’t offer the eat out to help out scheme. When questioned about this he just said he needs the money now and the government are just trying to look good and that it’s only £10 off your bill. Considering 4 people ate he needs to maybe look into the scheme.

Visited when we couldn’t get into another local restaurant which had been recommended to us - so glad they couldn’t take us! This turned out to be the best decision of our break.Staff couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful and approachable and the welcome was very personal, despite the restaurant being very busy. The food was excellent with good helpings provided. The choice on the menu was not overly wide but included all the favourites which you would expect, which was ideal for our purposes.Great place for a visit if you are in the area.

Just had food here on our holiday with family. We assumed they were doing the government offer ‘eat out to help out’ they were quite abrupt when we asked about it. Saying it’s only £10 off your bill when 4 was eating so clearly has no understand of the scheme and then continuing to say we need the money now is not the response I was expecting. As sign outside to say they are not participating in the scheme and being a little more polite to customers wouldn’t go a miss!

Not hugely welcoming. Got sternly told to hand sanitise on entry. And then marched to our table. I made the ultimate faux pas of taking one step towards the bar to see what ales they had and was quickly taken to task for not following the one way system. I appreciate that pubs have had covid challenges and things are different now. But that doesn’t mean pubs have to be unwelcoming. Everyone gets the hand sanitising and leaving contact details rules and does it. Food ok. They didn’t have the ale I wanted, no explanation why. Just generally got the impression they don’t want customers.

Heard good reports about The Bothy but was not over enamoured personally. Food was OK but turned out quite expensive for lunch. Staff did not seem to be welcoming and it was more like we were an inconvenience. Only serve lunch until 2.30pm.

We turned up without a reservation and we’re quite promptly found a table. Very friendly accommodating staff. Food was excellent we sampled the local cuisine having haggis and Cullen Skink (I think the soup was called) also plenty on the menu kids would eat.

what a great bar & restaurant we ate here twice on our 3 night stay in Fort Agustus, meals were very good and the staff were very friendly , got a warm welcome every time we went in.All Covid-19 measurements in place and followed to the letter which was very reassuring for me as I had been shielding for 4 months. Barman Pedro was very pleasant and funny and made you feel very welcome along with all the other staff and manager.Would highly recommend this bar/restaurant and will be returning when back in Fort Agustus.

Owner himself was extremely rude , all staff moody , made our dinning experience very unpleasant. Food low quality , greasy and horrible . Had to ask repeatedly for a drink as they kept forgetting . We will never come back . There are lots of other nice places around , just avoid this one

Verrast dat er positieve recensies te vinden zijn. Bediening waardeloos; chagrijnig en ongeïnteresseerd. Eten waardeloos. Patat in oud vet gebakkken en home made pie (taart) is niet meer dan vreselijk zout stoofvlees als soep op bord met een dekseltje van bladerdeeg. Jammer voor z’n mooi plekje. Simpele kwaliteit op tafel is niet zo moeilijk.

Ate here on 2 occasions and both time meals were good and reasonably priced . Social distancing in place and friendly staff.

A basic pub grub pub. Food hot and tasty, a good selection of drinks available. Welcoming staff Quite a few options on menu not available so choice was limited

Je déconseille fortement ce restaurant. Après avoir attendu notre table 30 min, puis attendu à nouveau 30 minutes pour que l’on prenne notre commande, notre serveuse souffle sans arrêt, nous exprimant... quoi au juste ? On la saoule visiblement. La moitié des plats proposés n’étaient plus disponibles à 19:30... Plus de plats végétariens. On hésite à partir mais on reste et on nous sert une salade fade, du pain à l’ail surgelé... bref rien de bon. Pour résumer, nourriture médiocre, service désastreux. N’y allez pas!

Accueil et service pas très pro. Pour le repas, il faut aimer les légumes bouillis non assaisonnés (dans tous les plats). Pour le prix, mieux vaut aller ailleurs.

Very rude service. Blonde manager on sat 1st aug was rude on arrival. Ignored us for half an hour before us having to ask for them to take an order. Snapped that they would get to us when ready. Promptly served three other tables who arrived afterwards. Asked again to order and was ignored. So walked out without any order having been taken

I visited this place a few years ago and found the food good but service unfriendly. Giving them the benefit of doubt I went again yesterday, same unfriendly service, to the point we didn’t order food and left.

Unwelcoming and Disinterested staff, poor quality food - kids sausages were mushy and flavourless, Cullen skink was warm rather than hot - the less said about the Lager Shandy the better! I would have mentioned this to the staff if they had ever asked how the food was or given the appearance that they cared or would have done anything to rectify the situation. We visited because we had been there previously and had a lovely time - we won’t be back - should’ve checked trip advisor before we went! Prior to reading the reviews on here we thought the abrupt nature of the staff was because we arrived 5 minutes before lunchtime service ended (this was the first thing we were told!) clearly though this is just how the staff are at the moment which really lets the business down. It would have been better if they had been wearing face masks as most hospitality staff do at the moment - at least then it wouldn’t have been so obvious they weren’t happy to have us there. So disappointing when Scotland lets itself and the tourism industry down like this - we got away relatively unscathed though unlike the poor bloke from France who ordered a coffee then had the audacity to mention to the waitress it wasn’t as he expected - he was swiftly admonished that when you ‘order coffee in this country that’s what you get’ said without a hint of a joke.. please try harder Bothy restaurant - you used to be great!

Visited this pub today for lunch. Waitress with blonde bob was abrupt & ignorant from the off. It was a big effort for them to serve us. The staff don’t wear face coverings & yet four of them reached over me to get their coats as they were going home. Only one of them actually said ‘excuse me’. Food poor quality. So much for Scottish hospitality! Go elsewhere. We certainly will be.

The barmaid was abrupt and rude. Asked for pale ales told have none. Had two Standard budweisers at a cost of £8 very over priced. Even on leaving said thank you and was totally ignored. Wish we had yet walked out. No wonder the place was empty....DO NOT VISIT.

Great reception on arrival and lovely pub food. Despite the Coronavirus we enjoyed a last minute dinner. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Walked in door, as soon as my mum stepped over the door line we were told to wait. Fine. Once the man behind the bar finished his conversation he asked us if we had sanitised (there was some outside the door almost hidden so we did not see. We however have our own which we had done before walking to the door) to which we said we used our own etc. To this the man behind the bar began to shout that we were not welcomed unless we used their own sanister. We walked away. Great food up the street at Lock inn Maybe a note for those managing, to make things clearer to people. A sign at eye level or a stand with a sign to tell people not to go any further if thats what u want to happen on the premises.

The abrasive and objectionable manner of the fellow hollering at me from behind the bar as soon as I stepped over the threshold on my first visit was enough to put me off this place. - I walked away.Later the same evening I took local references on that experience and apparently the fellow concerned has some form. I also see other reviews below here (and Google) with similar staff attitude issues.There are plenty other more welcoming eateries about Ft Augustus. Go to The Lovat for excellent Scots cuisine or the Lock Inn for more basic but quality food - both hospitable places with warmly welcoming and lovely staff.

Abbiamo pranzato in questo ristorante durante una gita al lago di Lockness. Fuori acqua a secchi, abbiamo particolarmente apprezzato il calduccio nella sala ristorante a vetri e il salmone fresco al forno. Buonissimo. Buona anche la bistecca con salsa al pepe. Molto gentili le cameriere, premurose e veloci anche con il ristorante pieno. Prezzi economici. Lo consiglio.

Visitamos este lugar durante nuestro viaje de un día para nuestro almuerzo. La premisa tenía obras de construcción fuera del frente donde se están reparando los cvs de ubicación. Este trabajo habría causado una pérdida de comercio. Al llegar nos sentamos en el restaurante inmediatamente. El menú era bueno y el servicio que recibimos de la joven camarera fue fabuloso. Tanto las bebidas como la comida llegaron rápidamente, y la comida era excelente. El único problema que tuvimos fue que nuestra factura fue borrada de sus sistemas antes de pagar, lo que retrasó nuestra partida. Pero los errores suceden. Usaría esta ubicación nuevamente.

Fuimos a tomar una copa la primera noche para ver si algunas de las opiniones negativas sobre el personal eran justas. En nuestra experiencia, esto no fue así, el personal era amable y hablador durante todo el tiempo en el bar. Por lo tanto, volvimos la noche siguiente o una comida. El personal recordó lo que estábamos bebiendo de la noche anterior y comprobó antes de entregar a la mesa. La comida era comida típica de bar, buena relación calidad-precio. De vuelta en el bar y de nuevo experimentado el mismo ambiente agradable. No siempre creas lo que lees (bueno o malo), pruébalo por ti mismo

If you're after a friendly welcome and comfortable atmosphere don't bother with this place! Popped in for a drink during a weekend stay in Fort Augustus and wish we hadn't bothered. Rude lady behind the bar who greeted us with a grumpy face and immediately told us 'there's no food on if that's what you're after'. Didn't ask you love and a 'hello' mightve been nice first! Was extremely smiley and friendly with the men sat at the bar and the local people in there though. Had our drink left and didn't go back again during our visit. Go to The Lock Inn or Richmond House Hotel where bar staff actually make you feel welcome.

Ate here all 3 nights we were staying for work, the food and service was excellent, really big portions and very reasonably priced.

Staff were on the ball as soon as you walked in and greeted you with a smile. Sat us down and took our drink order very nicely, the cally best was very nice.Menu was very good with lots of choice, Food order was taken promptly.Food came extremely quick which is never a good sign but was nice enough for lunch. They seemed to want to get through as many covers as possible however to be fair, this time of year, I don’t blame them. In one hour they went from full to empty therefore I’m sure making the most of business as it comes.Food was average but staff and beer was very good!

Had a good weekend in Fort Augustus and ate & drank in the Bothy 3 times. Food was excellent with great, friendly service.. Also good selection of Single Malts from the bar which I enjoyed while watching the 6 Nations.... We will be back soon..

Le cadre est sympa et donne envie de s'y abriter, mais .... Un gros mais !La nourriture n'est vraiment pas terrible, pas vraiment cuisiné, les serveuses sont un peu hautaines, ne prennent pas vraiment le temps, sont un peu expéditives... Mon conjoint a eu mal au ventre dans l'après-midi, il avait pris un sandwich au haggis (car il avait adoré son haggis dégusté à Edinburgh), et d'après lui, celui-ci avait un gout bizarre (on s'est dit c'est parce que ce n'était pas cuisiné de la même façon etc..) Puis le mal de ventre ... hum hum bizarre, on laisse quand même le bénéfice du doute.Un peu dispendieux pour nous, on a opté seulement pour des sandwichs/toasts, sans boisson.

Went for a lunch. Staff are unfriendly and uninterested in their guests. We ordered haggis and neeps. The haggis was a tasteless mush and the cubes(not mashed) of neeps were bland and at a guess I would say frozen. The salmon came out totally raw in the middle. We told the waitress who just looked at it and took it away with no apology. I would give this place a miss. My sister recommended the Loch Inn and wish I had followed her advice.

Favourite pub with the locals, friendly atmosphere, really good food, large portions. Varied menu, some pub standards mixed with some typically Scottish. Really large selection of whisky, gin, other spirits, ales and lagers.

Came here on a recommendation but unfortunately our experience was not a good one.

We visited here and were sat down straight away. We were ready to order but were left sitting for a considerable amount of time without anyone asking us if we'd even like a drink. I wouldn't mind if it was busy and they were rushed of their feet but there were 2 waitresses just stood at the top of the room just looking at us with blank expressions. While we were waiting for our order to be taken one of the waitresses brought food out but due to her long hair that wasn't tied back, it was dangling in the food she was carrying which put us off even more. By this point there were 3 waitresses just stood looking at us so we decided to leave and they didn't even acknowledge us. We came down the road to the Lock Inn where we also had to wait a long time, but this didn't bother us as the staff were lovely and the environment was really nice too. Avoid the bothy and go down the road to the Lock Inn.

Can’t fault this one, friendly staff pleasant surroundings and massive portions. Ale friendly too. I would recommend this place , and bring your appetite with you

We spent a week in Fort Augustus, and ate out four times, all in The Bothy. This was our second visit to the area, and based on our previous visit, decided we would eat there. We were not disappointed, the food is just as good as we remembered. Steak pie, haddock, scampi, haggis, gammon steak, chicken with haggis, sirloin and rump steak, all excellent. Service great as well. Only thing they could possibly look at is maybe offer smaller portions, as the ladies in our party felt the portions were over generous, but that is a minor point. They don't take bookings, but will jut you in if they can. Would thoroughly recommend The Bothy for food and a pint of Sky Red beer.

Looks nice from the outside but felt a little uncomfortable when walking in definitely had a local feel to it and not a very welcoming one either. The same can be said for the interior. It was cold and unwelcoming and the staff didn’t seem to enthusiastic or bothered if you were there or not, in fact I don’t think I saw any of them crack a smile once they all just looked miserable. The tables and chairs were pretty uncomfortable to, very narrow chairs and cheap tables. There wasn’t many tables so not a lot of options where to sit and rather than having the coffee machine in the kitchen or behind the bar it was right next to the seating area which means there was a few times staff wanted to be past and again weren’t very friendly kind of felt like we were in the way. If your looking for a friendly welcoming place to eat or have a drink then this is not it. Not sure what the food was like as just went in for a drink but I won’t be rushing back to try it as I did not like the feel of the place.

Frequented this place many years ago and was delighted it hadn't changed, including Ned the barman. Best bar in the town by far with reasonable prices. Hope to visit again soon

a loch ness si cercava la zuppa di molluschi tanta nominata.. ci siamo fermati in questo posto molto carino esternamente. il ristorante ha la nomea di essere molto lento nel servizio.. noi siamo stati serviti in fretta! salmone e burro come antipasto ..delusi dalla mancanza della zuppa .. abbiamo optato per altre pietanze ..personalmente ho apprezzato il fish and chips che solitamente é molto unto ..qui bello asciutto ma non molto croccante.. comunque buono...

A great setting for a bar , friendly staff . Very average pub food and a bit pricey as well . Food was brought out quick and had been microwaved . Would look for another place locally before going back .

Le restaurant est dans un beau cadre et l’intérieur est mignon mais la nourriture!!! Une horreur!! Si vous cherchez de la bonne nourriture écossaise ce n’est pas ou il faut aller.

Second time we’ve been to the Bothy and a pretty much identical experience. The food is very good but the service not so good. Steak Pie or Fish and Chips are great choices but clearly inexperienced staff should try harder to be helpful and more professional.

Os recomiendo la lasaña de verduras, está bastante buena. Sin embargo,la verdura cocida que pusieron como acompañante en los platos que pidieron mis padres estaba bastante dura, casi sin cocer. Los precios son bastante normalitos, nada caro. En cuanto a los camareros, no eran demasiado atentos y tardaron bastante en servirnos la comida Así que no puedo darle las 5 estrellas.

Lunch gegeten. Slechte service, heel sacherijnig. Slecht eten. Broodje hamburger: slap broodje, droger burger, melige friet.

Called in for lunch on the way to Fort William circa 12.30pm and got a table near the fire in the bar. Restaurant was empty bar one occupied table but within minutes the whole place was packed. We found the staff friendly. Had haggis sarnie and scampi and chips. Both were good. It should be remembered this is pub food. Yes there were locals which is always nice to see, but they not unfriendly.

My husband and I stopped at Bothy's at suggestion of our tour guide while touring The Highlands in October, 2019. It was a cold, rainy day, we sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders (the Spanish looking man with pony tail and the taller gentleman). They were engaging and we enjoyed their stories. We didn't eat here but the food looked good and those from our tour that did have lunch said the food was great. Our tour guide comes here for the soup and the atmosphere, which we found lovely. I would definitely stop here again.

Awful atmosphere, very unwelcoming toward anybody who isn’t a local. Feels like you’re at a wake rather than a pub. Staff seem to have some neurotic issue with you moving tables if you’re a larger ground - very weird and particular. Locals sound like they’re a few bricks short of a pile and the Spanish sounding barman with black pony tail and strange fashion sense is just plain odd.

A beautiful looking pub that is clearly fed up of the tourists.

Locale carino e tradizionale per pranzare se si vuole visitare il lago di Loch Ness. Si possono magiare vari piatti locali. Consiglio il salmone che e' buono e abbastanza ben cucinato. L'insalata di gamberetti e almeno era molto abbondante. Il resto nella media, nulla di esaltante ma almeno i prezzi erano onesti. Servizio buono.

by any standards, this restaurant was more than acceptable and the meals we had were quite good. Service was fast and personable and there is limited parking in the yard. There is an attached bar that keeps regular pub hours. Easy walking distance from just about anywhere in Fort Augustus.

We came in a group of 5 people, they had 7 available tables of 4 people (we actually counted it) and the very polite hostess (but not) said they had no available tables for 5. I asked if they could put 2 tables together and she was super rude and said she wouldn’t do it. Empty restaurant and she could not please 5 costumers to seat and eat. Unbelievable!

Visited the Bothy restaurant with my family, including two teenage boys. Food was fantastic, plenty of choice for adults and children, staff so warm and welcoming, lovely clean toilets.it was a wee bit chilly outside but the restaurant was lovely and warm. Looking forward to our next visit there when we return to fort Augustus.

We visited The Bothy for a meal while staying in Fort Augustus and highly recommend it. The food was great and the portions are very generous. My husband had the fish which was very tasty and I had the steak pie which was packed full of tender beef. We will definitely be back when next in the area.

This is the rudest experience we’ve had in Scotland. Walked in, no acknowledgement from bar lady /waitress who starred at us like we didn’t belong. We sat there for 10 minutes without even a word or a menu. This is obnoxious behaviour , like they are doing us a favour. We got up and left and spent our pounds at another more welcoming establishment just by the water. After we left four others walked in and left. If I were the manager I would have been outraged that business was turned away like that. I’d suggest avoiding this place as you might be intriguing in on them.

Excellent service, friendly eatery and bar, great choice of ales, spirits, ciders and of course great scottish foodstuffs.

We have been to the bar many times in the past and the atmosphere is always good. This was the first time we have eaten there. 7 of us and everyone happy with the meal quality and price. Speaking for myself the best fish batter I have ever tasted, nothing left on my plate.

We had Haddock n Chips, a Steak Pie and a Sticky Toffee Pudding: Perfect quality and taste! Come early or get a reservation!

We went here for a dinner while in town and absolutely loved the steak pie, fish’n’chips and sticky toffee pudding. The staff was nice and the atmosphere nice. Only improvement would be homemade tartare sauce. Great for dinner and very good value for money!

Wonderful staff and warm atmosphere. We had pints both nights in FA. Fish and chips for dinner. Can’t be missed.

We never booked but turned up and were lucky enough to be seated. The location was tidy and very busy, all staff we encountered were very curtious and professional. The food although basic it was very well cooked and there was plenty of it and it was very reasonably priced.
