The Botanic Inn in Belfast

Botanic Inn bouncer at a pre-formal took lots of ID of the young ones and wouldn't give it back!! He was standing squealing at and physically pushing ones crying and begging for their ID back for their formals next week to go away and he was being very aggressive towards them. I would suggest people avoid this place as this mistreatment of young ladies is just not acceptable and it was indeed a pre-formal! Where even young people from school running it were abused and turned away. Such a cruel individual to do and a blatant abuse of power, refuse entry yes but give them back their IDs, some were actually the real deal and now they're stranded also. Such a bully!! Spend your money in a friendlier establishment where people actually want and appreciate your custom.

Awful service, I recently went to enjoy the rugby with a group of friends, immediately on entry we were greeted by extremely rude bouncers upon entering the bar we seen hundreds of clearly underage children and to top it off we were left waiting for nearly an hour trying to purchase a drink. I won’t be returning.

A group of seven of us spent three hours in the pup, where I was blatantly and unapologetically overcharged at the bar. I wasn’t given a receipt, had to ask twice before I was eventually and grudgingly given a receipt. I was charged for three pints instead of 2 pints a sparkling water.. a senior bar man was still playing dumb as if he didn’t know what he had done.. eventually he threw £5:20 back at me, no apology.. no ‘sorry about that’. Very bad form, I wouldn’t go back..

Terrible, door staff are awful, manager is entitled p.o.s. Feel bad for the bar staff as they are clearly kids exploited for cheap labor. Toilets are a health and safety issue, looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. Flies everywhere and crusty residue on the sides. Absolutely leapin.

Couldn't give less than 1. Wanted to give zero. Went in recently and was naturally ignored by the staff at the bar. It was early on a Friday evening and the bar was not busy (maybe 30 people) . The staff done everything to avoid eye contact while we stood at the beer pumps, chat to each other, pretent to tidy, play on their phones and even just walk away. When my date asked for a drink we got told "I'm not gonna serve you". My query was, "Is it because we're gay or because he's Asian" I was met with and eye roll and being ignored for another 3 minutes. Seemed more occupied serving kids and not checking ID than being hospitable. Would I go back..... NO Would I recommend....... NO Am I embarrassed they're (UNOFFICIAL) affiliate with the GAA.... YES

Went here a year ago for Scotland v England in the Euros football, won’t be back ever again! Visiting Belfast for the first time in years with my brother-in-law from London who has autism so has to be minded at all times. We both had England football shirts and got something to eat and arrived early. We wanted to walk around and see all the new changes since lockdown, beer garden/big screens etc. Everywhere we went though we were followed by big burly security bouncers, never felt more intimidated in all my entire life. Went to the toilets at one stage and one of them (reddish haired chap) even cheekily said “where are yous two going to now?” Throughout the whole match there always two of them within 25/30 feet watching our every move…..me with a disabled fella sipping orange juice - we was hardly gonna start a riot. Meanwhile dozens of young intoxicated kids were climbing over tables, screaming, downing shots, spilling drinks……but they didn’t matter - just the two with England taps on! I honestly thought Belfast/Northern Ireland had moved on, but I guess they’re still stuck in the past of sectarian bigoted mindsets……avoid at all costs!

DEFINITELY will not be back here and will be telling people about how poorly run it is starting with the fact that the staff members are very rude and aggressive Absolutely dead in side BAD craic Worst place in Belfast to go I would say

bouncers are awful so rude and rough got kicked out for no reason, they need knocked down a peg to be 100% honest.

My friends and I have been to the botanic inn multiple times, and could never complain once about the bouncers, as a group of girls, we sometimes struggle to feel safe, but the bouncers do their up most to make sure we feel safe and happy, they are easily the best most professional bouncers i have come across and make the experience so much better, 10/10 from my group and friends and I. However for the actual Botanic inn, the nights I have had in their are quite underwhelming.

Nicest bouncers in Belfast. Always so helpful anytime my friends and I visit The Bot. Very professional and approachable. Big shout out to Stevie. However, The Bot itself is mediocre.

Went to the freshers Halloween ball yesterday and had an awful experience with a bouncer. I was already inside and my friend who’d bought a ticket had arrived and the bouncer refused to let her in, we went inside and the bouncer came and kicked her out, i calmly explained she had a ticket and he full on yelled at me for no reason. Later I was going on home and waiting for an Uber in the entrance part and he yelled at me said I had to get back inside. I dont know this mans name but he was awful and aggressive for no reason whatsoever and I honestly dont want to go back because of him. I also got ripped off for 2 vodka and cokes, not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else where you’ll actually be treated with respect and understanding

I was a virtual fly on the wall as a manager literally laid hands on a young chap who was querying where a meal had got to. As I understand it, he (the customer) was asking what the delay was. This appeared to be too much for the duty manager, who immediately started to make some very strange and aggressive accusations. He (the manager) was very hot-headed and I was left wondering if (a) this guy has some kind of temper control issue, or (b) has never been trained to speak properly to customers. In any event, I would caution anyone against using this place. I don’t know about the young fella, but neither me of my friends will be back. Horrific. I’ll be sticking to my local in future. I didn’t catch the name of the young fella, or the manager, but if the customer is reading this, I’m prepared to act as a witness. This kind of “customer service” has to be challenged and changed, or Belfast will be left a social wasteland.

ordered 5 drinks, waited over 2 hours and they didn’t come. Said to 3 members of staff and the accused us of lying

absolutely awful. vodka black current tasted like absolute dirt. half pint glass was only just over half full?? drinks took ages to come when the bar was pretty empty. also portaloos in the outside area made me and my friends feel like we were drinking in a field..won’t be returning!

The bot is the best place in Belfast!! Absolute best bouncers in town! Michael, Montey and bouncer at door deserve an MBE for being Legends. I hope the bot has many more happy years xo

The botanic inn is my favourite place to go, the entertainment is brilliant and the bouncers are so kind and friendly. The atmosphere is always excellent and could not recommend it more for a night out !

I paid for a chicken fillet burger and chips and did not receive them. I showed my receipt to the manager who said that my food was delivered to my table but it wasn’t. Don’t waste your time going to this pub.

Unhelpful and uninterested staff, food was terrible, took ages to come and was cold, manager wasn't interested in helping, def would not be going back and would advise anyone else to go elsewhere

Uno de mis pubs favoritos de Belfast. Es enorme, acogedor, tiene una impresionante sala de juegos (billares, pinball, etc) y una agradable terraza para cuando hace bueno. Se puede comer con una buena relación calidad-precio (nosotros probamos un menú sopa+sandwich muy rico), y hay mucha variedad de cervezas. Ponen los partidos y el personal es amable, así que no se puede pedir más.

After having had my dinner in the pub called The Parlour, I headed to the nearest Sports Bar. I was advised to head over to this Pub.On arriving, they were showing the Pro 14 Semi Final between Glasgow and Ulster.As it so happened, I arrived just as a Charity Race Night was starting!So my night out lasted a lot longer than I thought that it would!?Whilst passing my time between the Rugby and the Race Night, I had a look at their menu.As I had already eaten, I did find out that they have some great food and drink deals.The Lager I was drinking, should have been £4.20 a pint, but due to the Rugby and the Race Night it was only £3.50!Great value.As this was my last night, I most certainly will keep to this Pub in mind for my next trip to Belfast.

Im gegenüberliegenden Hotel haben wir übernachtet, und da wir in Irland ständig durstig sind ,haben wir uns über dieses Kleinod einer Irischen Studentenkneipe sehr gefreut. Super faire Preise, gute Auswahl an Bier und Gin und ein gemütliches Ambiente. Das Personal war freundlich und es finden regelmäßig Preisnachlässe auf Speisen und eine statt.

¿Gracias por el personal del bar que me ayudó a descubrir la cerveza irlandesa? Nunca pude pensar que esta bebida fuera tan buena. Cuando le pido a una barra que me aconsejara qué cerveza podía ofrecer, me trajo 3 vasos pequeños para probarlos. He elegido Magee's Leap, una cerveza local de Irlanda del Norte, que proviene de 18 millas de Belfast. De sabor bastante fuerte, amargo lo que me gusta.Bravo por el personal del bar. Visitar regularmente The Bot con mis 3 niños de 12, 9 y 7 años para ver el fútbol del sábado, y después de continuar el 24/11/18, sentí que tenía que ponerlo allí, por lo excelente que es. El personal era muy amable y servicial, hicieron todo lo posible para poner un partido que queríamos ver en uno de los televisores en la sala de billar para poder jugar al billar mientras veíamos el juego. La sala de billar, por cierto, es una gran adición a lo que ya era un gran bar. A mis hijos les encanta ir al Bot. . . No tengo más que grandes cosas que decir. Muy recomendable.

Although very busy, bartenders were polite and helpful. Seems very popular with the students and I could see why!

Quiet when we visitied but a huge space with entertainment area oustide including huts shelters for poorer weather, featuring regular live entertainments, guess during term time it could be a bit busy but great choice at decent prices in a nicer part o town.

Stopped off for a couple of pints after a morning concert in Queens, lunchtime Friday. Friendly barman, great location, and lovely to sit outside in the spacious beer garden. Very good pint of Guinness.

They never fail to destroy an establishments good name and reputation. Throwing teenage boys and girls out on to the street because of some perceived indiscretions with no thought to the kids well being or safety .The kids paid £15 to be with their friends over Easter only to be treated like dirt by Bouncers in The Bot . A place to be avoided when these Door Staff are on . Please advise your young people to avoid this place .If you own this place get rid of the Bouncers .

An iconic watering hole in its day. Visited twice on a Friday afternoon and evening and it was near empty? Strange how places change. Plus only cheap vodka brand for sale!

Visitamos el Bot última noche (viernes) y me sorprendí al ver el lugar relativamente vacío. El menú de bebidas es muy bueno, pero mucho del bar se siente cansado y necesita una renovación. Más gente está dispuesta en cualquier otro sitio de la ciudad pero no se puede evitar sentirse que con la reposición y comercialización el Bot sería volver a su mejor.

had a few pint and chips, place was crowdie due to match, but beer garden was empty, weather was cold and drizzle all day long, not a cheap place to be, but had to wait for my friend for an hour, no better option was available around :)

Had supper with family. Very good food and excelent service. They were able to accommodate my vegetarian family.

Called in for drinks with friends. Hadn't been to Bot for years and certainly didn't disappoint. Not bad prices and good range of beers.

2 courses for under £7.We came from London and couldn't leave without an Irish pub lunch. This place was kind of equivalent to Toby Carvery, you pick your meat then all of your sides of veg. Large portions but we were served soup as a starter with bread. The soup tasted very full of flavour and you could tell it definitely wasn't canned soup. We had cocktails with our lunch and the Mango Purée one was the best.

A firm favourite at school, uni and working life. The "Bot" is a top place to watch the footy or rugby. Best advice is to get down early, get a seat/table and guard it with your life!!!! Be prepared to wait for drinks order at the bar.

You always know what to expect in the Bot, lively atmosphere good craic and plenty off beer. The good is always top drawer and we always come back

Decent pub grub,nice friendly staff, generally good atmos. Spacious, reasonably priced, good promotions, nice outdoor area and terrific for sports and events.

Visited here for lunch and was surprised to get table service. I ordered a panini with soup which was great value at only £6,50, very filling and good quality. They now share the outside area with the Wellington Park hotel and have outdoor booths with TV screens in, good for watching sport.

Arrived at 8.30 on a Saturday night. Menu offered a handful of main dishes but not a thing for vegetarians. I opted to settle for soup and a cheese panini while my husband and daughter chose steak pie. On ordering I was told no soup and no paninis left. As the others were hungry I ordered theirs along with drinks. Ten minutes later girl arrived with drinks and told us no steak pie either. We were annoyed as we then had no choice but to drink the drinks without food.

I liked the Guinness Time slogan and clock outside the front even though I rarely drink the stuff these days. The beer I was after was Whitewater Belfast Ale. It was in very good condition. We didn't try the food. Nice pub, well worth visiting.

Great local bar close to the University . The place was fairly hopping when we were there. On the ball staff, led to a greta atmosphere.

Being a student, the botanic inn is great for good food on a budget! The food is always great here with a wide selection to choose from and the staff are always extremely friendly and more than happy to help!

Pub super sympa ! On y mange très bien pour pas cher (10 livres pour un plat et une pinte de guiness ou de cidre. Les plats sont copieux et typiques. J'ai opté pour une tourte de boeuf cuisiné à la guiness. Très bon ! Je recommande vivement ce pub pour tous les visiteurs qui n'ont pas beaucoup les moyens. Le cadre est cool, et le personnel agréable. Les salles sont très grandes et la musique qui passe est variée. A voir...

Called into the Bot on a Sat night at the start of Dec. I was so disappointed. I remember this place as being packed, people queued around the block to get in. There were about five people in it. I guess everyone goes to the trendy bars in the city centre now?

Great Great great Pub, very popular with the students, We had a coupel pints in here, what is great is there is a big out door smoking area that is heated and has the TV 'S SO if watching the sport u wont miss it.The food is good and service just as good, friendly young chap there could not do enough to help, The girls where to busy yapping and looking in the mirror except one she was also very helpful.the entire back wall is covered with sport memorabilia, which is sad because they have a clay moulding Of the Late great Jonu Lumo, we where only looking at it last night and heard he died today 18/11/2015They have some really good beers on so spoilt for choice.

The bots an institution, lovely staff, really lovely pub grub, they had sports on but not too busy because it's so big. It could do with a make over, you notice the ripped seats during the day. Although I seen a couple beside us having a full roast dinner, it looked amazing and great value. At least we know students are getting fed. All in all great lunch, very reasonable I will make there more regularly

I have only visited the two downstairs bars, I think upstairs is a nightclub?music venue.Anyway, the downstairs bars are great, they are popular and more traditional with a great selection of drinks, and a variety of quality bar meals. This is a very popular venue for students and has a vibrant atmosphere but as a 60yr old I didn't feel out of place and had a great night

Every time i visit Belfast i always make an effort to visit the Botanic. Always friendly and a great atmosphere and we even experienced some live music. The last time i ate there i had the fish and chips which is always a favourite of mine. A very enjoyable meal was had all round, the fish was certainly fresh and there was more than enough chips which were cooked nice and crispy and not too greasy. My friend had the steak and guiness pie which looked and smelled amazing, which i was a little envious about. Great food and a great selection of beer, a must for Belfast locals and visitors.

This pub was great for us as we were staying in the hotel next door. We visited every day during our time in Belfast as it was during the Euro qualifiers so we came in to watch the football and have a few drinks. I visited with my brother who is not old enough to drink anything alcoholic and we were told that he could not be in there after 9pm, however, as it was clear we was there to watch the football the bouncers let him stay until the end of the match which was greatly appreciated. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Belfast.

Stopped in for dinner for family of 4. Standard pub fare but well worth the price. Menu is more extensive than I anticipated, and cheap, reasonable prices. Food was very good and meal was enjoyed immensely. Only family in there on a Monday evening but enjoyed nonetheless.

we were on our way back to the hotel looking for a place to eat and found this in a corner.On a wimp I decide to go in and it was a surprise to see how big it was inside!!We seat at a table and, while deciding what to eat, were approached by a waiter who helped me deciding what sauce to have with my steak.The dinner was very good but we should have gone for a weaker beer to go with it. Food was ok, about what you'd expect from an average pub.Bathrooms were very clean.Service was average.

My husband and I recently came to this spot because I mistakenly booked a trip to Northern Ireland during the ice hockey Stanley Cup playoffs. We picked this spot after failing to find another pub willing to show the game scheduled that night. The Botanic Inn was more than happy to work with us to show the game. We ordered food and drinks. The food was pretty good (a step above your typical bar food in my opinion) and they had your standard selection of beer and spirits. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was great! And they saved me from an empty stomach and a grumpy husband. So I'll gladly recommend them to anyone, particularly any American/Canadian sports fans looking for a good night out.

On the face of it, the Botanic Inn looks like any modern style pub but it has two distinct bars, which harks back to the time when you had a public bar and saloon in pubs. We stopped for a drink in what you could of called the public bar, which had many more people in it than the other bigger bar.My friend was looking forward to a draught pint of Budweiser (as he hadn't seen it on draught for ages) but was disappointed with itt. I tried Smithwicks Blonde, which was ok but nothing special.

I frequented this usually splendid spot for a friends birthday. We visited the nightclub upstairs as midnight had passed, in which I decided to purchase two double vodka blackcurrants. To my dismay, the drinks had no alcohol in them whatsoever, after paying ten pounds for them. We raised the issue with the barman who had served us, he categorically denied the allegations and was actually very rude in the process. I feel as this was a student night he maybe thought he make a quick buck from drunken students, however in this case he was found out. I don't know if this common practice in this usually reputable establishment but I won't be coming back because of this incident.

We stopped for fast lunch and a pint of Guinness after a long trip to Belfast. The best Guinness pie (I think it was a special of the day) I have ever had, meat had a perfect taste and texture. Super good fish and chips as well.

Visited this nightclub last night with my basketball as part of a tournament. The bouncers were incredibly rude when we arrived. They were commenting on our attire, so rude. We went outside as my friend wanted some fresh air when we returned we were refused as they said we had been drinking on the road?? No such thing had taken place. We could not get in to the rest of our team. The night was ruined. So disappointing. Would not recommend.

Watched the Ireland Wales game (Six Nations) here. Great atmosphere. Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat but beer and cider were fine and it was a great place to watch the game.

Visited three times during a recent stay. Beer prices are what you'd expect in a city centre pub - slightly expensive. Food quality varied from good to poor. Had three meals including a steak which was supposed to be well done but was raw on the inside.

Watched the Ireland france match here on the Saturday and the Wales Scotland on the Sunday. This bar had been recommended to us as a sports bar. The atmosphere was brilliant staff and punters were very friendly.

I ve been to the "Bot" for 20 us years and I still love it. From School,through uni,dating, bringing the missus and looking forwards to bringing my wee daughter for her first visit. They do great beers and reasonably tasty food. It's a must to visit especially during sports events.

Called in on a random Wednesday lunch for a bite to eat.. Ordered my food at 1:30.. It came to 2:00 and I told the bar lady that I had waited 30 mins for my food she stated it will be "2mins" 30 mins later it arrived so that was 1 hour for a small lunch! When I ordered my food she then tried to charge me £5 for a q jump? What is this? Not one bit impressed and I would never return! Don't advertise food if you can't provide the service!!!

Nice bar split into two with trendy bar one side with a snug/lounge on other. Think it also has nightclub upstairs but didn't go.
