Had been told not to leave Deal without experiencing Fish and chips from The Blue Mermaid.Sadly we were disappointed.Haddock was incredibly good, we waited while it was cooked, but unfortunately they chose to give us old chips that were warm and soggy, which spoilt the meal.If you choose to eat from here, make sure your chips are as fresh as everything else.

Fish and chips always fantastic every single time. Have been getting our take aways from here for years and won't buy fish and chips from anywhere else if we can help it! Fresh, succulent fish with a lovely flavour. We always have the haddock and have never been disappointed.Lovely paintings to look at while you wait. The owner takes such a pride in all that he does. Fabulous and highly recommended!

I came here on a lovely day out with my family and came across this lovely chip shop. The service was very homely and the decorations were interesting. The chips were phenomenal. 5 Stars!!

We’ve tried a few fish and chip shops during the lockdown and this is one of the best. Good quality fish, thin crispy batter and not dripping in grease. Prices were reasonable and there are a few tables for indoor eating if the weather is not so good. You might even be serenaded by someone playing the piano!

I always use this Chip shop run by Ralph and his wife who are lovely. The ingredients are always top quality and the chips are even as good as those up north! I tried Rock instead of Cod and I think I will always get it now, delicious.

Raph has owned this establishment for a few years now. I have visited this establishment many times and in my humble opinion, it is the best Fish and Chip shop in the area. The Cod is real Cod and just scrumptious; the chips are excellent, and portions superb. This is a family run business and I hope it will remain so for many years.The host is always accommodating and available for a friendly chat. The Blue Mermaid is without a doubt the best quality and value for money fish & chip shop in Deal and probably wider. The cod and haddock are the very best quality and plenty of it in a portion. Always cooked fresh and witty banter or a tune while you wait. I can't praise it more highly. Looking forward to when we can sit down and eat once again to double the pleasure but for now the takeaway hits all the right notes.

After reading many reviews about how marvellous these fish n chips were, we decided that fish n chip Friday would be celebrated by having fish and indeed chips from the blue mermaid in deal. The decor is of a very musical theme, the art on the walls is done by the fryer man and is for sale, may I recommend the picture of the pier, should you wish to purchase it before I return, as it is probable I may purchase this myself, and let's not forget the mermaid in the window she is enough to lure the most resilient of sailors and sea goers.So.... What can we say about the experience here? Apart from these chips were the finest chips we could have had, and the cod was freshly cooked with love, to perfection, all in all a most pleasant experience was had by all, we shall definitely be visiting here again to partake of the chips and fish, and to view the art in display.10/10 fish n chips10/10 decor10/10 price10/10 art work on the walls

Our first visit and certainly not our last. Freshly cooked to order small cod and chips. First quality fish and delicious chips.

Not only is this one of the best Fish and Chips shops I have ever visited, but the owner is a fanatical guitarist, pianist and cello player. A great character. The walls are adorned with sheet music of favourite songs and classical pieces. I love the whole experience and have been back many times. The fish is always freshly cooked to order, so worth waiting a little bit longer for. You can also enjoy some of the art on the wall whilst you wait your turn. Highly recommended.

I've tried most fish and chips in Deal and The Blue Mermaid is the only place to go in my opinion. Clean premises, friendly staff and superb quality food.

Good value food served by friendly staff. I had a very tasty plain jumbo sausage and regular chips which was £3.80 and was plenty of chips to fill me up but not so many as to feel uncomfortable or waste any. They were a cash only establishment which meant we were nearly caught out but there was a cash machine close by if we would have needed one.

Fresh fish, delicious batter and a cracking cup of tea. All you need from a great chippy. And we got serenaded by the owner and his guitar. No idea if this was just for us or a regular thing but made a rainy corner of Deal feel a bit like a Mediterranean hideaway.

We have been to Deal a few times, we have not been to this little restaurant before. The food we had was very tasty, we had a takeaway from this fish bar. Price was reasonable for what we had. Staff friendly. We walked down to the beach front and sat on a bench and ate our fish and chips looking out to sea and the pier. Brilliant. And a nice day out. Will visit again in the future.

Had a lovely family meal in this small cafe/restaurant. We all had fish and chips which were delicious. Freshly cooked, generous portions, lovely white fish and great chips. Prices are reasonable and staff friendly, well worth it’s high Tripadvisor rating, would definitely return.

We couldn't get into any of the fish and chip places on the front so we'd given up and were walking back to the car when we passed the Blue Mermaid which had space for us to sit inside. Our fish (one plaice, one haddock) was cooked while we waited, beautiful light and crispy batter. Really good quality fish. Just the right size portion of chips, good cup of tea. Spotlessly clean and everything was wiped down a couple of times while we were inside. Excellent value - two meals with chips, roll and butter and tea for two for under £20. We won't be going anywhere else on our visits to Deal now we've found this place. One thing to note - they only take cash but not a problem for us.

This is a great find for fish and chips. Top quality food, not expensive and staff are super friendly. Strongly recommended if you’re in the area.

Best fish and chips we’ve ever had! The fish was cooked fresh and it was delicious. Very impressed. We ate in the restaurant. The owner was really friendly and attentive and even played some lovely music on his guitar while we enjoyed our food. We were visiting the beach for the day, but it felt like we were on holiday. A 10 minute queue because of COVID, but was it worth it---yes, yes, yes. Beautiful fresh fish.I ordered two cod and one regular chips plus a pickled egg for my wife, but disaster, they only take cash and I only had £10 cash. Guess what they only charged me £10. When I went to pay the differences next day, wouldn't take my money, amazing and the best fish I have had for years.

It is really difficult to find perfect examples of England's national dish, fish & chips. Seeking lunch we went into The Blue Mermaid and the proprietor welcomed us with the words "we are going to cook you the best fish & chips you have ever eaten". While we were waiting he serenaded us on the piano and classic Spanish guitar!The food was fantastic, absolute perfection. Beautiful fresh white fish in a crispy batter, perfect chips and not too many, and the essential mushy peas. He was right, without doubt, this was the best fish & chips the two of us have ever eaten.

The BEST Fish & Chips, cooked fresh! Free entertainment by the chef or his son on the piano, cello, violin whist you wait or eat in. Such incredible service. They get their fish from local fishermen - the rock freshly caught on theday was superb. Their batter is light and if you don't want to eat it, easy to take off. The chips are freshly chipped not from a supplier and cooked to perfection.We stop every time we are in Deal for this wonderful fresh feast!

Visited the Blue Mermaid a few times in lockdown and the consistency of the freshness of the fish is remarkable, really tasty, chips excellent, and if you have to wait you may be lucky and get a musical interlude performed by the owner! Best chippy in East Kent!!

We have been buying fish & chips from the Blue Mermaid for a few years now, sometimes eating in, other times taking away and they have been consistently excellent. Nowhere compares! If you are lucky and choose a day the ‘pianist’ is in house be prepared for entertainment whilst you wait. I truly cannot speak highly enough of the food and staff.

Had a fantastic piece of locally caught rock on Saturday. The kind staff even took the bone out for me. Delicious!

We just had a fish chip and mushy pea dinner from the Blue Mermaid. Certainly it was the perfect supper. Lovely fresh fish, light but crispy batter, mushy peas as you would hope for. Stumbled across this place today.OMG This place was the best fish and chip shop ever, we both had rock and chips! This place deserves a gold medal - great service always with a smile and a big welcome. Decor is fun. Very clean and bright. Food top class. And you pay the right price for the quality of the good. Can’t fault it.

I can honestly say this is a fantastic chip shop. Everything is cooked freshly and the fish is beautiful, I have never enjoyed battered cod so much. Lovely batter too. Fabulous cooked to order fresh food. Portions are large and the service is always with a big smile. Local produce sourced from the fishermen of Deal. Can't recommend it enough.

During the Lockdown times of Coronavirus of May 20, 2020 my husband and visitedThe Blue Mermaid Fish Bar. We were socially distanced and waited our turn to buy our Fish x chips. The fish had been caught that morning and was so fresh. We took our fish and chips and walked to the benches near the beach And ate them. Delicious , could really recommend the Fish Bar.

We had a delicious generous helping of locally sourced Rock fish and took it to the beach. Cooked perfectly. A real treat. They sure know their fish and they’re lovely! Highly recommended.

We spent another weekend in Deal after a 2 year absence and revisited the Blue Mermaid chippy to see it was still as good! We were’nt disappointed the fish and chips were still excellent and the staff friendly,would certainly recommend a visit!

Business website says open wednesday till 9pm, made a special trip to here whilst in the area after a previous excellent visit and at 8:15 it was closed

Encouraged in off the street by the owner who welcomed our dog Archi. We had been traveling for afew hours to get to Deal and were very hungry and ready for a hot drink. We were not disappointed the fish n chips were excellent the batter lovely. Lovely mushy peas and curry sauce. The owner was very welcoming and even played the piano. This is our first day in Deal but I'm sure we will be going back again this week.

Called on a wet and windy Thursday afternoon and got just what we needed. Superb food and the warmest and friendliest of welcomes. Fish and chips cooked to order, entertainment on the piano and great banter with the "chef". Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Was in Deal for day and my family wanted some "decent chips" before leaving - we are fussy so wanted to be sure before buying. Another customer gave the high approval rating, and they weer right. The staff were very friendly and took pride in their food.

Down here for a half term break. Had read reviews and decided that this was the place to go. Small cosy restaurant with six tables and a piano! When we arrived an elderly generation was playing and it was brilliant. Fish n chips were superb, light and crispy not greasy at all, nice portion of chips and we’re very tasty. We were visiting Deal to go the castle and called in here for fish and chips after seeing a sign near the promenade. The fish ( cod and plaice) were cooked to order,- the plaice was huge, the batter was crispy and tasty and the chips were good too. The owner chatted to everyone as if he knew them and he played the piano if there wasn't an order to cook. The banana fritters were a nice extra. We enjoyed our fish and chips and would return if we were in the area again.

We went to Deal to visit the castle and decided to have fish and chips beforehand. Saw a sign advertising the Blue Mermaid so thought we'd give it a try and so glad we did. Easily up there with the best plaice and chips I've had, really good with no skin, perfectly cooked, generous portion and entertainment thrown in from the owner on the piano. Excellent value with a banana fritter for good measure. It's not on our doorstep, unfortunately but next visit to Deal will definitely include a return to the Blue Mermaid.

Seems to be a bit of a running theme in Deal. The places tucked a little out of the way, turn out to be hidden gems. This was definitely the case for the Blue Mermaid. Not the most glamorous of dining rooms, most people seemed to be having takeaways in any case. The staff where all friendly and very helpful. But the fish and chips was to die for.

We ordered for 4 to take away and it was delicious. Chips were fresh, batter was crisp and sausages and scampi were yum! We sat looking out to see on a scorching day and had a fabulous lunch. We will return!

I have been here twice, once on my own and then with a friend visiting. On both occasions the food was the best. Lovely light batter around the cod and the chips were like they were in my childhood. Not chunky nor hard on the outside, as is the way they do them now. You have to try them to see.

Quite quirky inside and definitely not your average fish and chip shop. Lovely warm greeting from the owner and lots of smiles to go with it. We were told by a local that this is their favourite place for fish and chips in Deal. On arrival we loved the quirky style with a piano inside. The owners seemed very friendly. We were a big group getting fish and chips to take away but they were very patient whilst we worked out our order. We ate our meals on the seafront and all agreed that it was really good fish and chips. The portions were a little on the small side for the price but overall we were impressed and would return.

Impromptu bank holiday treat and the fish and chips really didn’t disappoint!! Not greasy and super tasty, the fish was beautiful and meaty thick 😉 we would return again. Lovely to be able to sit outside to eat too.

The best cod I have ever had from a chippy! No skin, perfect fillet with no bones and golden crunchy batter! 😋 highly recommend!

We were directed to this particular fish and chip shop by an advertisement on the side of the old Regent Cinema next to the Time Ball Museum. It had an endorsement by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and said the shop was only one minute’s walk away.

A last minute decision to have a fish supper brought me to this shop. A friendly owner and his young assistant made the wait very pleasant. Cod, haddock and chips were all freshly cooked and were delicious. The counter area was extremely clean, as was the whole interior. There was a piano which was available to play and the sheet music on the walls was a good touch.

I have been here a couple of times when visiting Deal and staff always make you feel welcome. Food is top notch!

I was in Deal town centre a couple of Friday evenings back and feeling hungry looked for a fish and chip shop where I could "eat in". Luckily for me there was one to be found just round the corner from the bus terminus in Park Street. From there to the chip shop is about a 3 minuet walk. I was supprised to find the place almost empty but it was only 5pm so went in and was warmly greeted by the server who was wearing a clean white jacket. Always a good sign. I ordered my large portion of Cod and well done chips to eat in and took my seat at a clean and tidy table. There was a couple waiting for their order to be cooked and one of them took a guitar from the wall and started playing some tunes to pass the time. I thought at first they were part of in house entertainment but it was not so, as soon as their meal was ready he put the guitar back on the wall and they both left. By this time my fish supper was ready and was brought to my table by the owner/fryer. He asked if I wanted any sauces which were placed before me along with a cup of tea that I'd ordered. The fish was beautifully cooked, moist, fresh and full of flavour. The chips could have been a little more cooked, that's how I like them, but now I'm nit picking. The tea was hot, strong and freshly made which washed my meal down. All in all a very well cooked fish supper that didn't break the bank. Well done the Blue Mermaid. I shall definitely be back for more of the same the next time I'm in Deal.

We had fish and chips with mushy peas in the evening in the restaurant part of the fish bar. The fish was excellent, so fresh. We also enjoyed the impromptu piano playing by one of the customers. It's not often you find a fully functioning piano in a chip shop!

From my experience this was a pretty average chippy. Nothing bad but nothing exceptional. Cod not as fresh as other local places and actually slightly undercooked. I struggle to agree that this is the ‘best chip shop in the world’

A short walk from the seafront, freshly cooked fish and chips, clean tables, friendly service, and the owner's young son wandered in and played the piano for us! Oh, and the lovely food was very well priced.

Called in here for lunch with a work colleague we were on a course and I'd heard this was the best fish and chips in Deal, never mind Deal this was the best fish I've had anywhere in years!! Homemade chips, fish battered and cooked in front of you, simply delicious, fresh simple food. With fantastic friendly service 100%

We had good chips here on Saturday afternoon. Not wanting a large lunch we just had a cone of chips each and they were good !!

Came to Kent to visit Deal Castle and as we were near the coast Fish and Chips was our choice of food.........A lovely couple who made us feel welcome, The Cod and Chips was better than anywhere we had eaten, freshly cooked and generous portions......2 x Cod and Chips and 2 teas for under £15, please dont change what you are doing, its perfect !!

Spent a few hours in Deal, and we had all ready eaten lunch, but someone said this place was the place to go, so we popped in only had a Medium Haddock to share, Wow what a lovely piece of fish, cooked to order, and the owner added a few chips for us to try which was very kind, the batter was perfect the fish super perfect. Both staff members helpful and friendly. Highly Recommended.

Not only are the fish and chips cooked to order and perfection but if you’re lucky you could be treated to a rendition on the piano. This evening’s entertainment was provided by an accomplished pianist from Germany. According to the proprietor it was the third time today that someone had tickled the ivories.

Popped in for a fish supper ( we’re Scottish) Chose our fish and size of fish. Owner very friendly and entertained us with tales of the resident seagull!
