The Blacksmiths Arms , Harworth, Doncaster in Bassetlaw

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal in the pub whilst staying on the camp site. Chicken burger was the best I've had (and I've had a lot!!). Chef was very accommodating. Highly recommended 👌🏼

We stayed on the caravan site it’s not clean they definitely have a problem with ants! We cut our stay in half! It’s not cheap to stay there and the facilities well done ask I think heath and safety have forgotten this place

We booked out the blacksmiths arms my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. We don’t live locally so had never visited the pub before. I inquired locally with a few pubs but that blacksmiths stood out due to brilliant communication and they couldn’t do enough to help. On the day of the wedding anniversary celebration they couldn’t do enough to make it a special day for my grandparents. They had decorated the pub with banners and balloons. The roast was lovely, all 50 meals came out hot at the same time and everyone was really impressed. The service was also brilliant. There was a small hiccup with a children’s meal, and they very quickly resolved this with no problems. Genuinely can’t fault our experience and would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to host an event.

KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PUB the landlord is highly rude and always drunk he is very obnoxious and lazy

We visited here on a sunny Friday evening. Initially just for a drink but then decided to see if there was availability to eat. We sat outside in the sunshine to start but the garden was a little unkempt and the benches had definitely seen better days. We headed inside when it turned a bit chilly and asked about food, told it was busy but they could accommodate us although their pre booked tables would take priority which us as we were also paying customers. A table of six arrived so we were told the bar lady would take their orders then come to us. We were told there were no starters and no pies available?! No idea early on q Friday evening. We waited 25 minutes for our order to be taken but nobody arrived so we finished our drinks and left. This is the second time I have given the Blacksmiths a chance after poor service and we won't be back for a third time.

Called last minute for a table of 6 and the women on the phone accommodated us straight away. Really good selection of meats ( beef, chicken, gammon, lamb shank, belly pork, veggie options as well ). Food was exceptional I don’t think I’ll ever cook Sunday roast again now that I’ve been here. I have to say I’m really impressed we had table service constantly with a waitress attending to us whilst the chef came in and out all day checking on ourselves and everyone else! Thank you so much , we’ll see you next week 💜

Came to the Blacksmiths Arms in February with family, thoroughly enjoyed my meal and so did everyone else. All staff/ waiters were very polite. Would happily recommend to anyone.

Today was the second time of visiting. First time was fantastic, really good food ,friendly staff and the chef checking in with us constantly. However today was a completely different experience. We were a table of 9 including 2 children. We ordered garlic bread to eat whilst we waited for our starter … this was just bread no garlic butter to be found. Starters…crispy beef was quite good, 3 half racks of ribs were all cold, and the 2 garlic mushrooms were just mushrooms floating in cream which hadn’t been reduced at all to make a sauce. The mains were a disaster. The pies were ok ,there was no choice tho either steak and ale or steak and Stilton, this from a pub which specialises in pies, compared to last time these were rather basic no mushrooms or onions in the pie and the only veg was peas. The burgers all had items missing but the childrens meals were ok. The worst thing was the lasagnas. We ordered a meat one and a vegetarian one. They both arrived with meat !!! On questioning this both lasagnas were taken away to be inspected, the chef could be heard shouting in the kitchen that this was impossible. Unfortunately not. They both contained meat. This was most upsetting for the vegetarian. During all this the chef was nowhere to be seen he scurried past a few times but did not look our way. Last time he checked in with us constantly. Needless to say we did not pay the full price and will not be returning.

Extremely friendly staff, excellent food with a good selection, and they even gave us a free chicken dog meal!!! Campsite basic but good. Only an overnight stop with Motorhome on route to Cornwall

We arrived quite late but still had loads of choice and the food was exceptional. Both my partner and myself had beef - delicious. A lovely place with very attentive staff. Definitely recommend and definitely going back. Thank you everyone at The Blacksmiths Arms, Alvington, near Lydney.

We went with friends for Sunday lunch yesterday on my birthday. What a lovely experience. The staff were amazing, very friendly and attentive. We were first time visitors but were treated as though we had been regulars for years! The food was superb! I had belly pork, hubby had beef, friends had chicken and lamb shank. The meat and veg done to perfection and loads of it. Sticky toffee pudding and custard was delicious. I would highly recommend The Blacksmith’s Arms at Alvington. Thank you Amanda, Nigel and all the staff for making my birthday feel really special. We’ll be back to sample your fabulous pies later in the week.

Three day stay at this campsite. Very clean and quiet when we visited. Ablution block is dated and small but as guest numbers were small when we were there it didn't get trashed. Genuinely traditional pub from 1820. Standard menu, limited range of beers. Boss and his staff were friendly. Loved our stay.
