Haven't been here for a while and i think it must have changed ownership. We had the fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Simple food but cooked to perfection. The fish was soft and flaky whilst the batter was light and crispy. Curry full of flavour and the tartare sauce had bite and texture. Gorgeous chips. Really good beer to top it off. Definitely will return soon. Ps, loved the Bee Box App which let's you select your own playlist to choose a few of your favourite tracks which is a brilliant idea to personalise your pub visit (Scooter/Abba/ACDC whatever) 😀. Just what Ashover needed ❤

Party of 4 adults and 3 children 11, 12 and 13. Staying close by for an Easter break. Came across the Black Swan for a quick drink. Very hospitable lady behind the bar. We said we would return the next evening for food and if possible to watch the football (couple of Villa fans in the group). They ensured we got a table by the tv, put the game on and when it started offered a bit of volume. Also provided taxi numbers to get home. Attentive and friendly. Food, beer and wine good. Kids used the dart board. Thought there was a nice vibe about the place.

Nice area - attentive staff - lovely local vibe. Cost and quality of food a let down. 2 x fish & chips 1 and half pint plus 1 x coffee £48.60. Chips very dark and tasted dense burnt almost - served on wooden platter which cooled the food very quickly - balsamic everywhere. Fish tasteless. Was set to be a large meal but as setting on large wooden platter gives the impression of large. Gratuity automatically added £5 for you to reduce . Big bowl of chocolate mints near till none served with coffee. Went with someone that doesn’t go out much so you don’t like to complain to spoil the night but no revisit.

Dont understand the delay as there were only 5 tables having meals. The staff apolgised, but made no attempt to offer free nibbles whikst we waited. After a walk we called in at The Swan for lunch. We received a warm welcome from Alison behind the bar. The food was incredibly amazing! We were expecting some average pub food but the pizza and grilled sandwich were beyond gastro quality. Stephen, the chef, came out and we talked about his food. The care and quality is amazing. He's opening a restaurant upstairs (he's only been at the Swan for 2 weeks!) and we can't wait to visit. I can't recommend the food enough. They will also be working on the downstairs so the 'atmosphere' ie decor, will improve.

Sunday lunch 25th February. Firstly the phone number on the pub website isn't working so we couldn't call to book. Pitched up and asked about Sunday lunch - directed up the stairs. There's a big room up there. Very nice fella helped us, took our order and brought the Sunday roast. Food was OK, service good, atmosphere upstairs was poor. If I go back, I'll ask to eat downstairs in the pub; there was plenty of room. Our waiter told us the phone problem will be resolved soon.

We were in the area for a holiday and were keen to support a local business during our stay. We saw that the pub had just reopened under new management, so we’re keen to check it out and we ended up being the first family to be served a meal! We all loved the vegan and gluten free options that were available and the service was brilliant. We are quite an awkward group for dietary requirements and they were so helpful. The new chef is a vegan specialist and the food he made was superb. Would definitely recommend to any with dietary requirements and certainly visit again.

We attended for Sunday lunch , and the food was dreadful on the whole. It had changed hands since our last visit , and they seriously had gone downhill , they really do need a decent chef. I had soup that was both bland and unseasoned, and stuck to the spoon like mushy peas , (not liquid , as soups should be). Even a nice homemade thick soup isnt like baby food...the bread roll couldnt have been dipped into it...(more like spread on it )...🙄 The staff seemed very young , and one was totally out of her depth ! Asking if we wanted anything else as she was collecting my soup bowl...no , we just came in to share a bowl soup between 3 of us ??? My mother paid over £16 for a pie that was so hard , she couldn't get through the hard , burnt crust. I was served a cold side salad , with a very overcooked sweet potato and chick pea curry , I couldn't taste the curry it was so over sweet . It had no chunks in it , it was just another mushy mess... I'd expect maybe a naan bread , or poppadom , whose idea that salad was I don't know !! The butter with the "soup " roll , was obviously margarine, definitely not butter. All in all it was a disaster , no discount of any sort was offered , wouldn't go there again , needed to eat on the way home. Don't waste your money , my poor mums treat to us was ruined.

Nice friendly atmosphere but food terrible! Ordered fish pie (£18) which seemed to take forever to come and when it did I was shocked! Overcooked, dry as a bone fish ( no sauce !) with potato topping that tasted like cardboard. Absolute disgrace. My friend and I decided to call in and have a bar meal, I opted for the fish pie, I asked what the seasoning vegetables were they informed me they were courgette, leeks and Carrots, I asked to leave out the leeks, which she said she would, my friend decided on the beef stroganoff with rice, we didn’t have to wait long and was really looking forward to it, I couldn’t have been more disappointed, the supposed salmon and cod in a dill sauce! What sauce?? It was a mush, the salmon seemed to have come out of a tin, and it was dry to eat, the vegetables were okish. this dish was definitely not worth £17. My friends stroganoff was bland, and the rice was like it came out of a 2 min microwave bag!! Let’s hope it was chefs night off! Good luck to anyone who takes the chance on eating here.

My fish, chips and mushy peas were grim - I struggled to eat less than a third of the them before giving up. The fish was hard, the chips cold and greasy and the mushy peas a solid cold lump. Whilst my partner did ‘get through’ his meal l (he was really hungry), his medium rare steak was thin, grey and about as ‘well done’ as it gets, and the accompanying onion rings, mushrooms and chips soggy and cold. We’d normally complain to staff, but as it was my partners birthday we didn’t want to ruin what was left of the day with bad vibes. On a positive note, the bar man was friendly, our drinks were good and we sat outside in the sunshine.
