We booked a table for 7 of us at 3pm on Friday, as it was a friends birthday and another friend had come up from wales to visit. We got to the pub and the table wasn't ready for us, we had to move our own table to accommodate all 7 of us. The pub also has a certain stale musky smell about it with a mixture of stale ale mixed in, the place needs a serious clean. If the pub area is like that, I'd dread to see the kitchen. I had a pint of Neckoil, which I absolutely love but I took my first mouthful and it just tasted dirty and flat, it was absolutely awful. I had a pint of Madre as a swap and that was ok but still didnt taste right, then I noticed things floating around in the bottom of the pint that looked a bit like limescale. I then decided to swap to bottles and told my friends as they arrived to just stick to bottles of beer. After my friends arrived, what I assume was the landlord of the pub came over and said we have to place a food order as soon as possible (note that this was at 3.20pm and we were literally the only table in the pub) my friend from wales hadn't even sat down at this point! He then said he'd give us 5 minutes to choose food. Gee, thanks! We decided to book there as we liked the look of the food posted on Facebook, but the decor of the pub just does not match the menu at all. The food came and it was "ok", but it didn't look like the pictures they put on Facebook. I couldn't tell the quality of the food as everything was lathered in sauce, so that's all we could taste. The only positive was the barmaid who was very pleasant and smiley, when I took my drinks back she didn't hesitate to apologise and offer me a different drink. Definitely will not be returning here, what a shame as it used to be such a nice pub a little while ago.

I am updating my review of this place. 6 years ago this was an amazing place. We went today 06/03/2024 and chose not to eat. Menu was very different to what shows up on other photos. I can’t say anything seemed appealing for me personally but the place itself had just lost its charm. The main vibe I got was ‘do not eat here’ if I am totally wrong about this place I apologise …… but I don’t think I am. The only reason to re visit was the waitress was lovely. Okay she spilt a drink on us but honestly that was just funny. I’d go again and let her spill a drink on us before choosing food there.

We came here after hearing good things and I'd seen some pictures of peoples' meals, which did look decent. However the menu is all Spanish/Mexican style food, we were expecting pub grub as it is a British traditional old style pub. When the food came, everything was swimming in oil, even the nachos which I'm not even sure why they had oil on? I couldn't finish my main course and my boyfriend didn't finish his, which isn't like him. Won't be coming back. Just felt sorry for the waitress, who was very kind and polite. She kept asking how our meal was but maybe too much, because she must've known it looked awful :( I don't usually complain but just want people to save their money.

So disappointed with the Black Horse. Called in for drinks. Bar maid extremely friendly but the place is in need of significant investment and looking very tired. It is very dated and yet has so much potential. One male member of staff was extremely rude - a good way to lose custom. We won’t be returning even though we are local people. Very disappointing and worse than last time we called in.

I would highly recommend a visit to the Black Horse at Limbrick.

Called in on a Wednesday night for tapas. Nice and quiet but the outside beer garden was busy on such a warm evening. The food here is just sensational, easily rivalling any tapas we've had worldwide. Be careful, its easy to overorder. The portions are generous. The pub has a pleasant relaxed feel to it and the staff are welcoming and likeable. Some mediteranean music in the background added to the experience. Don't come here for a cheap night out but if you want a special evening then this is the place.

A proper old English pub as you'd expect 50 years ago, that's not a criticism either. The food is what you'd expect for the price, good enough. I had chicken fajitas which were a bit watery and not sizzling but flavoursome all the less. The service was perfect and the staff were very friendly. If I needed a quick bite to eat and was in the area or a pint, I'd definitely go back but maybe not a nice date/meal.

We used to go to this pub/restaurant quite often before lockdown and always had an enjoyable meal and got chatting to other diners. We knew it was under new management and decided to try it again. When we arrived there was one other table just finishing their meal and another two tables of four in the other rooms. We ordered drinks and our meal including a starter between us. We didn't expect to wait 45 mins. for our starter considering there were so few people dining and it was at least another half hour before we got our main meal. The whole meal was nothing special or complicated - just basic. We were unfortunately, definitely not impressed and will not be returning.

Myself and my better half decided to go for a walk in the sun up to the Black Horse in Limbrick and give the food a try... They had Aspalls Cider on draught so already a positive for me! We went for starters and mains each and pricing was in line with most pub restaurants nowadays, but what we got was fantastic!... I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the country and abroad and was astounded at how flavoursome, fresh, and we'll put together the food was! I had the Calamari to start and the Mrs went for soup of the day... Both easy to get wrong and often are to a point but both were perfectly done! The side salad with my Calamari was one of the best I have EVER had for flavour, dressing and freshness so I was chuffed to bits to have more of it on the plate with my main!... I went for the double chicken stack burger and fajitas for the better half and again, zero disappointment, which is rare to find everything so spot on nowadays!!... Staff were friendly and personable and the venue itself retains its traditional charm and warmth... So, so impressed we'll be returning and cannot sing their praises enough for the quality of the food and service we received!

Went for some food after a nice walk, had to wait a while before being acknowledged then be sitted but put down to one person doing it all. Then ordered food which was fine and told could be alittle wait on food not a problem. Then receiving food the fish and chips had bones in it and the chunky chips was hard, which was also on my sons plate. So I went and spoke quietly to the bar staff just to let them no and course no fuss, to then have another member of staff come out and try to tell me that fish has bones in it and u will swallow some and the chips wasnt hard and then walked off with an attitude before we could speak. Bear in mind we had already paid and wasn't asking for nothing back just to make them aware. Absolutely disgusting attitude sorry

Great tradutional country pub, cosy with real fires. First visit since it reopened with a new a slightly different menu. Traditional pub classics but now joined with a pizza menu and tapas/Mediterranean dishes. I had a number of tapas dishes and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavour of them. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. Cost wise, and possibly indicative of uk eating out costs right now, the prices of the dishes were on the high side for the quantities served. £7 for Calamari is about right but there needs to be a couple more. The £7 creamy mushrooms seemed expensive for a small portion considering the ingredients but they were delicious. I would have preferred the patatas bravas to have been hand cut cubes of potato, possibly with a spoon of alioli but these should definitely be closer to £5. All portions need to be slightly bigger and then it would be a definite 5 stars. A great pint of Black Sheep on tap too.

I would give the Black Horse 3.5 stars, the location and the proprietors are nice, though I think the place could do with a revamp. The old dark painted furniture and stone flooring is certainly in keeping with it's reputed 1000 year old history, but it's missing pictures and photos that I would have loved to have seen on the walls, showing the pub throughout it's impressively long and presumably colourful past. Personally I would like to see the dark paint on the seats stripped back to natural wood, both to enhance the seating area and brighten the ambience of the place. The set menus are very traditional (more of a vegan / vegetarian/ meat mix would be a suggestion), though I appreciated the creative specials that were on offer that day.

Both came around 15 mins later soup was piping hot and delicious it was mushroom and came with hot roll, wife had pate nicely presented, main courses were a little while but, that said it's freshly prepared so you expect a wait as opposed to the "kerching" food you get at your chain pubs, wife had gammon cooked to perfection, I had cheese and onion pie, both came with hand cut chips and 6 yes 6 types of veg not your usual peas and carrots. Brocoli, cauliflower mangetout, carrots, peas, and courgettes both were served hot and plenty of it. Also we were asked 2 or 3 times if everything was OK. All in all excellent meal worth the money and good friendly service we don't live round here but it's well worth the visit and will be coming again soon.

Lovely traditional pub a gem in the centre of Limbrick just a couple of miles from chorley centre... great walks on the doorstep, dog friendly and beautiful, delicious homemade food, great cask beer, top range lagers and great wine and friendly staff once you get there.

Don't know what planet the last reviewer was on - If your going to worry about covid and your fully jabbed and boosted then why would you go to a pub and kick off that they are not going covid overboard ? - some people eh ?? do us a favour please if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything ! ALL that aside - We called in today to one of our best loved pubs in this seductive and special location - and such and old and traditional place - and the welcome was warm and the beer and wine great - and at reasonable prices - we didn't eat as we were just passing by after walking the dogs - but the pub was open on New years day !!!! and quite busy - we checked the menu its all very reasonable - We are coming back soon to have a nice meal there - This is a lovely pub with a slightly poor history of previous managers or owners but now looks set to do great things- I wish them every success and they could be onto a real success here as the welcome was lovely and the place is a true gem !!! traditional it is and hopefully will remain !!!!

New customer to this establishment but defo be back again. We had Sausage, Egg & hash brown barms & they were great as well as reasonably priced. Wish I’d tried one of the barista coffees as well. Nic
