My partner and I got from here tonight and was very impressed my partner got a small chip and it was very nice not greesy at all and I got a chicken burger and was amazing very succulent and tender was the best chicken burger I've had from a chippy fully recommend and will defo be back

Worst experience won't be back staff was so rude almost like they were upset you came in to order food and price for 2 chip buddies and 2 cans of coke £15 was absolutely ridiculous NEVER AGAIN

Have to say this place has went downhill chips not great chicken burger pink batter soggy in middle best thing was the tin of coke

Absolutely terrible and won't be back, very rude service and the prices and portions are horrendous we could have ate in a decent restaurant and had bigger portions for the same price.

Shocking prices £8.25 for a kids meal 1 sausage chips and beans and £6.95 for a Gravy chip that was miserable.. won't be back definitely better chippys about that aren't robbing people

Food is decent, bit greasy Staff put the place to shame… abrupt, nasty, cheeky, older bigger woman with dark hair in a bun doesn’t deserve to be working. Ignorant doesn’t start it. No please no thank you just shouting at customers. Honestly sack her she’s not cut out for customer service and quite clearly hates the job. Real let down on an otherwise decent business.

Bought a pastie absolutely gorgeous it was actually my first time in their even though I have lived in the East most of my life ,will definitely be back

It's been years since I was here. Second time back in as many weeks. Fish is delicious, chips are filled with potato , curry and gravy both equally lovely. We've been looking for somewhere to sit in and get a decent fish with proper chips as most ( most notably Longs) fail to deliver. Batter is light and non greasy and my son enjoyed his burger ( a tad small) even though it was an adult one. We'll be back again soon.

You will never beat the Bethany for pasties. And battered sausages, I can't comment on the fish because I don't eat it. The low score for the food isn't on the quality, the food is great! It's got very overpriced and you don't even get a few chips with a pastie anymore 🤷 you have to order a chip and sometimes you don't fancy loads of chips! For the price I think they should do what every other chippy does and give people a scoop of chips with their order!

Mmmm, where to start? Suffice to say the once superb reputation this place had is gone. Renowned previously for their chicken fillets burgers, now reduced in size by 50%, but not in price. Chips would have appeared to be reheated more than a few times, hard and tasteless. Staff inattentive, no personalities and gave customers the impression they just wanted to go home. Uncleared tables and think that'll be last visit.

If your looking to experience a traditional "fish & chip" shop you remember from your childhood then look no further. The Belany Newtownards Road is it. Real fish & chips & malt vinegar served with bread & butter & a mug of hot tea is the delicious comfort food of yesterdays'. The staff are as warm & welcoming as the little diner in the back of the shop. No frills just great food & portions to set you up for the day. Not to be missed, especially on a cold wet Belfast shopping day & only a few minutes from Connswater.

The only chip shop I would go to even when I lived in Newtownabbey or further afield I would go here. If Its shut then I would not go to an alternative. Its the bethany or nothing.

Got the chicken goujons it says you get 5 only got 4 and usely you get a few chips. Not this time must be due to inflation. Next person might get 6 goujons lucky them.

Food is the Best standard anywhere I have been and loved my visit..

I wanted to give this place 5 stars on the food, but to be honest, it's just too greasy to eat every day for it to be a 5 star place. The food was great, the service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. I wish they had some healthier options, but what they do is fried food and they do it better then almost anyone out there, so you can't really be mad at it

Best fish and chips in east Belfast

The Bethany is a Belfast icon and comes with a well deserved reputation for great fish and chips. The food was great, my partner had the fish and chips I ordered one of the beef burgers with a pastie and some chicken bites to share. The burger was nice but the bun was quite dry and mealy, which happens with brioche sometimes. Which is one of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of them as burger buns, but that's beside the point. The chips were thick cut and cooked to perfection, the pastie is famous for a reason highly recommend it and I'm told the fish was on point as well. All in all a great time and I look forward to coming back soon.

Absolutely love the food in the Bethany and service is first class, best chippy in the east for sure, maybe even the country!

The food here is excellent, good value for money. However my complaints would be the cutlery and glasses always seem to be filthy. I’m not sure how these are being washed, this hasn’t been a one off either it’s been the same the past few times we’ve been in.We couldn’t even use the glassware an had to clean the cutlery ourselves with our napkins. Also why are the plates so small chips are always falling of them. I’m sure you can afford bigger plates? Staff at times are also loud an shouting down the restaurant to each other an this totally unacceptable when paying customers are trying to enjoy their meal, so unprofessional. Such a pity as the food is lovely. You Should also have wheelchair access an more seating as people staring at you whilst you’re eating because they’re waiting on a table is off putting.

These chippys and there are 3 of them that i know of are probably bar one other the best you can get ! The food is THE best chippy food in Belfast, the fish is always fresh and the batter is crisp and light, but the chips in my opinion are the nicest chips for miles bar one other ...... you will NOT be disappointed !!!!!!!

Best Chip Shop in Northern Ireland Fish is always freshly battered and voojrd to perfection. pasties are also tasty. Best shops are Newtownards Road and Cregagh Road. Been going there for years if you fancy a fish make the journey I do and its worth it.

This is probably one the best fish and chips shops in Belfast the fish and pasties are excellent if your in the area definitely worth a visit

The Bethany is the best fish and chip shop in Belfast no contest, always friendly helpful staff, its a no nonsense local sit in or take away place. No frills, clean as a whistle, kids meals are generous and the fish is fresh.

The food is excellent and staff are very polite and pleasent . I always ring my order through and never have to wait long

I called here... I heard so much about the food sold here.. So came to decide myself... I'd a fish supper... The fish was the size of Jaws 🦈 and chips were plentiful...... Batter on the fish was lovely and light not sure if it was beer batter or not... Would recommend this place to anyone I don't recommend many place.. But I'll stick my neck out for this one...

Does what it says on the Tin. The Pepper chip is awesome. Portions great & freshly made so you will not be disappointed.

The Bethany is a great place to get traditional chip shop food, the quality and value are exceptional and the staff and service is second to none.

We went for lunch today & not only was service very slow but their card machine was broken. Fair enough. But there WAS NO SIGN UP & NO-ONE TOLD US!

This was usually a really good place to eat , but I have found when its really busy not as much care is taken with the food . Chips really well done and service was really poor . Prices are good but need to keep the same standards all the time , staff under pressure when busy but staff still very nice , used to go here quite often but have not been since July.

I lived near the Bethany on the Belmont Road 40 years ago. I return once per month from a distance of 38 miles just to have one of their plentiful fish suppers. The quality and size of fish with its perfect crisp batter and the sensation of eating those mighty chips together with the cheerful service and seat inside the shop create the perfect evening for me. my visits to folk are arranged around calling at the BETHANY.

This chippy is legend. I have been visiting the Bethany for over 30 years. Consistently good food. Great portions and moderately priced. Highly recommended. Try it once and you will return often. Even after all these years I still see many of the old customers. The Staff are patient and very friendly. Well done Bethany!

We like to try and visit this place about every six weeks and I can honestly say I've never been disappointed The service is quick and pleasant the food is of a good quality and the price is around average .Well worth a try if your looking for a good chipshop dinner

This is a traditional fish and chips shop with tables inside. The food is very good and the staff are very friendly. It's hard to beat if you want a good fish supper.

I wouldn't say it was the best fish supper but I'd highly recommend this place.. Don't forget to also get Tea , bread and butter for the chip butties fish and chips aren't the same without the bread 😀

Quite good food. As chippies go. Can be a little dear but they all are these days. Honestly would prefers the sister Bethany nearby at Dundella. I think the food is slightly better.

Myself and better half went to the sit-in area at the back for some chip shop dinner. Recently the place has had a complete fit-out and it looks fresh clean and bright.

Absolutely amazing food, piping hot and great portion size. I just had a fish and it was ample, great size, crispy batter and a few chips on the side, my mum had the same. My dad 85 and husband both had fish suppers and they throughly enjoyed it. Will definitely go back

I have frequently enjoyed eating out at this restaurant for many years. I recommend their delicious cod and chips. I always enjoy my meal with bread and butter. To date I have never had a bad meal. Staff at the Bethany are friendly and make you feel at home. A visit to Belfast is not complete without enjoying a meal here.

Found the Famous Bethany via Google and was not disappointed - one of the best Fish and Chips /Chicken and Chips experience we've had! Portion size was huge and prices are very reasonable. They only accept cash, so make sure you have enough with you!
