Wonderful staff and excellent food make this restaurant a ‘must go to’ place to eat whenever we are staying in the area.This was our first chance to eat inside since Covid-19 and on entry the newly decorated interior made an impression straight away.Then we welcome we received was so heartwarming it was lovely.The excellent food as ever backed up the excellent service from the front of house staff.This is most definitely our favourite Indian Restaurant anywhere!I had a lamb sizzler and my wife had a Mint Lamb. Each choice the lamb was tender, and the heat tapered to our individual preferences .Just excellent, what more to say.So good, we will be there again before we return home.Special mentions to Mac Ali, Gulam (spelling unsure) and the Chefs.

We stayed in Wickham Market for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary and booked The Bengal based on recommendations, and wow we were not disappointed! Fabulous food, excellent service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We were really well looked after by the team of waiters - thank you - and were really impressed by the quality of the food, presentation and portion size. Can highly recommend the goat curry. Absolutely delicious. When we’re back in the area we will definitely be back. Thank you Bengal for a great evening.

We spent a weekend in Pettistree recently and ordered a takeaway from The Bengal on the Friday night. It was excellent, especially the chicken badami, and we’re planning another trip to the area now just so that we can order another one…

So long without our favourite restaurant. The food tonight was amazing, the customer service excellent. Can’t wait to book to come back again!

Due to Covid restrictions and plans of an internal refurbished in place we ordered takeaways for four people. On arrival in the bar reception area to lea ing with our food the staff were so friendly and professional. The perfect hosts. Then when it came to eating our food it was just excellent. Good size portions and exceptional food.Recommendations? I had a Lamb Saagwala (stepped up to a Madras) which was full of flavours and delicious, and another top choice was the South Indian Garlic Chilli Lamb. Cannot praise The Bengal highly enough.

Don't often leave reviews but the food and staff were so lovely we just wanted to give them a huge thumbs up! Definitely recommend!

We had a brilliant curry at the Bengal. I would 100% recommend. I ordered the Dansak but asked for it to be a medium heat - just a slight kick - it came perfectly. Mac was very helpful with getting our order just right for us. Huge portions sizes and great value for money. Delicious food.

How fortunate we are to have this wonderful restaurant in our village. Last night, we had a celebration meal for our daughter's birthday. I had a wonderful chat with the owner who is always so friendly and welcoming, we talked about some dishes in particular and the way they are able to spice up or down depending to individual clients' tastes. They very kindly gave us a box of chocolate for our daughter which was a lovely touch. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried a couple of new dishes and will certainly be having them again. Next time, goat curry, elephant naan and keema peas!

The restaurant was open for takeaway on the bank holiday 31st August ,all the covid practicing was in place. This is the second time we have been to this place for a take away. At this point, due to the virus, the restaurant is only doing take aways.But there is no deterioration in quality - simply an amazing curry (and I come from Bradford, so know what a good curry is!!).The staff are very accommodating, eager to help in selecting the best dish, but not overly attentive, you know what I mean!!The best recommendation I can give is to go, enjoy a drink, review the extensive menu, speak to the staff (who will help you to order the right dish for you!!), have a chat with the other customers and then go home and relax into the flavours of a supreme meal.Thank you - we will return on future holidays.

I cannot praise this restaurant enough for its food, price and the excellent service.We have eaten twice from here this week with varying curries and sides, and each time each meal has been excellent.Front of house (Mac) is exemplary in friendliness and knowledge and is a ably supported by the rest of the staff. A particular mention for the Maas Bhuna, of which the Tilapia was perfect, the heat level gently raised to my liking as we discussed, without affecting the amazing flavour of the fish and spices. Goat curry, Lamb Razella, Lamb Chilli Massala, Lamb Rogan Josh and Vegetable Bhuna amongst other top quality meals.Even the cheese naan and the spiced poppadoms were the best we have tasted anywhere.The Bengal will be our first port of call for eating when we next return.

I don't usually leave reviews, but the food and service were so good I feel compelled to do so. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food was excellent and the naan bread was the best I've had in a very long time. I only wish I lived close enough to go more often!

We found this online and are so pleased we have. Went there yesterday for the first time and it was brilliant. We had a variety of food between us - all wonderful, and the best peshwari naan I've ever had. Very friendly and helpful staff made us very welcome so top marks for service too, and good value for money. Can't recommend it enough!We'll be back!

First time visit, I had Goat Curry and elephant naan. It was simply first class. Lovely staff in the restaurant, friendly and helpful and simply brilliant food. I would actually come back to Wickham Market simply to dine here.

This place just keeps on giving, we go here time and time again and it still remains the best curry I have ever had. The staff are super friendly and can’t do enough for you.

Recently visited The Bengal after being recommended by a pub landlord 20 miles away and so worth the visit. We were welcomed by staff who were very attentive throughout our visit. Great selection of food on offer and knowledgeable waiters who recommended dishes to our taste which was all fantastic. Good value for money. Place has character with tables on different levels, toilets are downstairs and quite steep for less abled persons. Would certainly recommend this little Gem.

This restaurant gives a genuine warm welcome to all its customers, dining or takeaway and offers a wide range of dishes, many of which are new to me, despite many years of going out for a curry. I experiment with their curries I don't know and have never been disappointed and if you like the sound of a dish but want it hotter or milder they will tweak it to your taste. My recent takeaway was something I not heard of but has a lovely mix of citrus and spice that really worked with the Lamb.

What a find - lovely venue, pleasing decor immediately felt comfortable and we were given a great welcome.All the staff were courteous, helpful, attentive, very polite with great attitudeMenu was extensive - so much to choose from. I chose the chefs special: Tandoori masala Bhuna with Mushroom rice and a peshwari nan- it was delicious, looked tempting, smelt lovely and tasted yummy! All made in the kitchen, freshly cooked and served piping hot - what’s not to like. It was also fantastic value. A wonderful evening, we will definitely return and recommend to friends, family and others.

Just waht you want from a curry house, all of the usual dishes promptly served by friendly staff, some dishes are milder than versions "up North" But they will add extra heart if you want. Visited on last night of a great holiday in Suffolk. Got a takeaway. A curry and a portion of roast chicken and chips. The roast chicken was sliced to the center where we found a cooked fly. Reported to the local council for food hygiene. Luckily we hadn’t started it yet. It went in the bin.

As a group we've been to the Bengal twice this week and each visit was excellent. Good food and impeccable service.

Each year my wife and I stay for a week at Wickham Market. Part of our annual ritual is dinner at the Bengal, always splendid and welcoming.

We visit Suffolk regularly and have always intended on eating here but just never had.

Been to this restaurant a couple of times and with each visit as good as the last .The food is so tasty and all the staff are very attentive .No wonder it’s always busy always best to book Looking forward to our next visit ,Thank you all for a lovely meal

Six of us went to dine on a Friday evening to dine in, rather than order a take-away. One of the party had specific dietary requirements. The others in our group had a range of preferences.

Love this little restaurant. Fantastic food great atmosphere. The staff are brilliant. Such a great find in a small town. Will be visiting often. Naga curry is is delicious. Can't compliment this restaurant enough.

My husband and I visited The Bengal on a weekend trip to Wickham Market. The menu was varied with a strong set of vegetarian options. Service was attentive and very friendly (my husband thought too friendly) and prices were excellent. Our food was delicious; the onion bhajis were huge, crisp and soft and both curries and breads were flavour some and filling. The building is old and split over several levels which may be an issue for some, parking on the square is free after 6pm and the surroundings were lovely. We will be back.

If you're after lovely Indian food, this is the best is the best Indian (Bengali) restaurant in the area, well worth the drive. Great food and charming staff, and very reasonably priced.

This restaurant is going to be our 'regular' because the atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, the food is excellent and the service is impeccable!

Never eat here before I come from West Yorkshire and have some of the finest curry’s I ordered what is most definitely one of the easiest curry’s going a korma and it tested like water no flavour at all very disappointing I will not be going back again standards of food very low and ordered by phone then arrived 10mins after the 25mins and still had to wait 15mins on top to get watered down curry very disappointing

What a great restaurant you will not be disappointed if you dine here. We went last Saturday and had the best Indian meal I have had for a very long time. The portions were large and the quality was first class. The menu was extensive with so many dishes to choose from I am sure there is something for everyone. Having had a pub/restaurant myself for 11 years I know how hard it is to get it right and these guys have. Well done guys, keep it up, we will be back.

I had a Chicken tikka jalfrezi and partner had a Chicken tikka balti, on the side mushroom rice, Saag Aloo and a cheese naan to go. The food was extremely tasty, spice was just about right and customer service phenomenal! The only thing I will say is the prices were on the higher side of which I will not slate this. I will just say it was a disappointment that for just shy of £30 no popadoms were given as a courtesy, most other restaurants I have attended would have given one complimentary. This taken into account is the only reason a 5 star review has not been given!

We’re on a short break in Suffolk and visited The Bengal after reading the high recommendations made in the comments book in the cottage in which we’re staying. The food was delicious, excellent value, and the service was perfect. One of the best curries I’ve ever had. I wish it was nearer home!

Was staying at the local campsite and decided to have a curry and so pleased we did. This is one of the best curry houses I have ever eaten in. The staff could not have been more friendly and the food much more than just a curry. Such an extensive menu and served with such polite waiters. Thank you bengal. Can't wait to return

We had a really super takeaway on Saturday night. Indian cuisine has never been my favourite but i could easily be converted by The Bengal.

Wow, what a huge difference these loverly young lads have made to our local Indian restaurant.

Under new ownership the Bengal has been transformed from a dull low quality curry house to a splendid high class restaurant with skilled and attentive staff beautiful curries excellent service in a beamed period property (mind your head when you go in!) all at very reasonable prices. With drinks and side dishes it was only £20 each! Loved it!!

Mac and Gulham will make you feel at home in their restaurant whatever the occasion. Their menu is vast and they will happily change the food to suit your taste or dietary needs. The food is simply gorgeous and I would highly recommend to anyone in the area!

After reading the other reviews on here we might just have caught this place on an off night, staff were friendly, venue is a period property with loads of character..

Mac, Gulham and staff are fantastic,went there last night and it was packed,they managed very well and still had time for a chat.The menu is great and they will tweak this if you would like certain additions to the curry.Well done!

Had a lovely meal here. Loved the elephant ear nan bread. There were lots of interesting and tasty dishes and the service was excellent.

We came here for my father in law's birthday (we're the group on holiday from Newcastle!) with 4 adults and 2 young children who are just starting to enjoy curries. The dinner was stunning (highly recommend the vegetable sylheti) for all of us and my son especially enjoyed the chicken tikka.

Staying in Framlingham for the weekend and found this restaurant just a few miles away. What a great choice this was. Quirky old building. Huge choice on the menu with lots of different variations on run of the mill Indian food being a Bengali restaurant. We ordered a few different things from what we usually would with recommendations from the waiter. The food was delicious. Spicy but not overly hot. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The waiters couldn't do enough for us. Even when the dessert menu came I wanted kulfi which wasn't on there and they got this for me.

Excellent service as always - the owner is always so welcoming. The food was delicious with plenty to chose from their extensive menu. So pleased new owner is doing so well. Cannot fault.

We haven't been for an Indian meal for a very long time, but having read reviews about The Bengal I couldn't wait to try it. It was truly delicious and when you walk away already planning when to go back ... you know you have had a lovely time. See you soon, and I can't wait.

Visited the bengal for my husbands birthday with friends ,as we know mac from when he worked in needham wanted to see his new restaurant he has taken over with his business partner .

I recently left a Hit and Miss review and was asked to call in and try the new menu. Absolutely the right thing to do. Friendly new owners, amazing food. Two of us went and are both quite particular about our food.

I recently went to The Bengal as we were visiting my sister who lives in Ipswich and she is a regular there. This is one of the few traditional looking curry houses that are left and it is not a massive restaurant but it comfortably accommodated our party of 15.

Recently stayed in Wickham Market, strolled down to The Bengal to get a takeaway as I had my little dog with me, they offered us to eat in and it wasn't a problem that the dog was with me. Excellent service, excellent food, very attentive and nothing was too much bother.

We went last night and had a great experience. Food was amazing and we all enjoyed it. The staff were helpful and efficient. They had even decorated the table for a birthday and they chef had made a birthday cake all without us asking which was a lovely surprise. We will all go there again!

Had a few takeaways from the Bengal, and they were all fine.. however, the last couple of times I've eaten in or had takeaways there has been issues with the food

Change of ownwership recently and what a difference.Traditional Bengal favorites and some really mouthwatering inventive additions.Recommend you book.Even though we hadn't booked and had to wait for a table we were so glad we sat and had a beer for 20mins because what arrived at our table was delicious and cooked to our request.Spot on!

This place is even better since it has changed hands. The guys are amazing! So friendly and helpful. They have completely revamped the menu and it is great. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE BENGAL ROLL. It is in the starter section of the new menu. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Tried the Bengal for the first time last night and will definitely be going again. food was delicious and very reasonably priced and the new owners were friendly and welcoming. Add in a warm cosy room and easy parking and you have a grand night out.

I had been to this restraunt several years ago and it was ok however it is now under new ownership and is now outstanding. The staff and the perfect bakance between attentive , freindly and professuonal without being obtrusive.

Visited The Bengal on a Wednesday night and it was nice to speak to the new owners. The new menu choices look incredible with a lot of dishes that are not available in the majority of Indian restaurants, including goat.

We booked in for a Saturday night after a recommendation and checking out the great reviews- and we weren't disappointed.

This is the first time we’ve been back to the Bengal since it came under new ownership about 5 months ago.

Called in for a quick meal and found the food and the service excellent. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Highly recommended.

Since Mac and his business partner have taken over this place they have done a great job. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth visit a visit, there is ample free parking after six. Food is top notch and they are more than happy to meet any specific requests. Good value portions and a very welcoming atmosphere. So good I’ve been back twice this week! Really hope these guys keep up the good work.

First experience since the recent takeover - and it won't be the last! Excellent service from friendly, efficient and knowledgeable new owner. Even at 6.30 on a Sunday evening, the place was humming with happy customers and the takeaway meal was delicious. Food freshly cooked, light and not at all greasy, zingy colours and flavours, accompanied by a crisp salad. Prices extremely reasonable - what an asset to the village!

Recently changed hands, for the better! Delicious food, great atmosphere. The new owner has turned this place around. Congratulations!!

We have been twice to this restaurant now and we will be definitely coming back soon the best Indian cuisine we have tasted. We tried the new elephant naan (see picture) we were actually the first to have it ! What wonderful service the young man that has taken over the restaurant is very polite and helpful he deserves to take this restaurant to the far in this tiny Suffolk town. We recommend !!!

we really loved our visit here last night.The food was great and very yummy we loved it.No faults at all.we was greeted by a very lovely and friendly young man called mac who is one of the new owners along with Gulam great guys lovely friendly make you feel very welcome.The whole experience from the time we walked in the door to the time we left was brilliant.They are going to bring out a new menu and i can not wait to try the new starter the Bengal roll when i go next time looks amazing and very yummy.He also have plans to refresh the place up a bit which will look amazing this is defo our best Indian restaurant to go and eat at from now on.well done guys keep up the good work the food was amazing.we had a great evening cant wait to come back again.

Visited the Bengal 24th October whilst on short break in area. We were greeted by the a very pleasant, very friendly and well dressed young man, later in evening we found out he was one of the new owners/ managers, Mac and his colleague Gulam great guys.

Hadn't eaten in here for a while, but after our dinner tonight, will be making it a regular. All our food was good, no fault anywhere. The new young owner has just taken it over, and was very polite, friendly and seemed keen to accommodate his customers wishes. The building is old and quirky. He has plans to refresh some of the more tired bits. Wickham Market is lucky.

We have known Mac for a while now and we decided to pay him a visit when he told us the Bengal was under new management by himself. The place looks amazing and mac and the staff are full to attendance on everyone's needs..you can pop in for just a chat or a beer!. Mac has great new ideas to upgrade the place and make people feel 100 percent welcome. The food tastes out of this world. Especially the chicken packora!. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

We visited this place recently and can say that this was the worst place we have ever been to... As lovers of curry, the chicken was cold, and uncooked, had to be sent back, especially the chicken tikka starter which was for a child , very salty with no flavour , chicken was very strange colour , we could not finish the meal and left a lot of food which was very expensive. Absolutely the worst Curry I have ever had....Health Inspector's are needed to visit this place ....DO NOT EAT HERE

The Bengal is situated on the square at wickham market in wonderful period premises. Lots of oak beams inside and Interior is warm and welcoming. Also warm welcome from owner/staff. Both take away and restaurant service available- evenings only. Not a articularly exrwnsove menu by Indian standards but something for all with many veggie options. Timely and efficient service. Food is good. Trip advisor Marking system means rating is either average or very good. I would class It as good and therefore given them the benefit of a 4 as they are better than average !

Visited during Easter Hols for take-away, We love Indian food, however I cannot say the food here was enjoyable at all ! The chicken madras had very little flavour and no heat to speak of at all, it was like a vegetable soup colour and taste with bland - what seemed like boiled - chicken, it was very disappointing. The rice also was very wet and had very little flavour, the naan was ok but again lacked flavour. I will not be returning, such a shame as the restaurant was very attractive and the staff appeared friendly. poor effort.

We go here regularly and the food is always well cooked , good quality , great value.The starters are the norm for an Indian restaurant, but there is nothing normal about the resulting dish. They are freshly cooked from scratch, giving you that succulent, home cooked experience so rare in all but the top restaurants. The mains are of the same quality, and I have never tasted a better, slightly sweet naan bread.

I often go here for take outs and also eating in.Always very very quiet which is weird because it is the finest Indian food for miles around. The owner is lovely and friendly as are all the staff. Try it. You'll love it

Visited Sunday 30th October. Four different curries and selection of sides, all perfect. The king prawn achari was a particular favourite, also lovely onion bhajis! All washed down with several pints of cobra, happy days. This is a proper old school curry house, cheap and cheerful. The owner was very friendly and service was spot on. We will be back!

Not sure how long we have had this facility in the village but it always serves up good quality and normally has your order ready on time. Sorry but never ate in always have take aways.

We had a takeaway from The Bengal on Saturday night, as we were staying in a holiday cottage in the village. All four main courses were extremely tasty and very well cooked. We loved it!

A really excellent curry house with some different dishes on the menu. Nan bread the best I've ever had. Book to avoid disappointment though - it deserves to be very popular and it is!

We ate early on a wet Tuesday evening and there were not many other diners at his time. We received quick and friendly service, were helped with our choices and very satisfied with the standard of cooking and portion sizes. The building is atmospheric and well located in the heart of the town.
