The Belvedere in St Albans

Lovely Hotel restaurant which I have never visited before. Although our visit was a sombre occasion the restaurant was beautiful and the meals and staff were exceptional. I would recommend The Belvedere for any special occasion!

A really lovely dinner spot, with a beautiful dining area and gardens and excellent service. We very much enjoyed our dinner here and will recommend it to anyone looking for dinner in the area.

Last week we had the pleasure of holding our daughter's wedding reception dinner here! Joe was such a wonderful host and the evening was exceptional thanks to his level of professionalism. The food was superb and so was the atmosphere. We will dine here again...a hidden gem!

Great evening celebrating a friend’s special birthday, excellent food, good music, dancing and very friendly and professional staff. Lots of different parties there - some Christmas parties ... brilliant atmosphere!

We went with another couple to this restaurant after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, which were good. We had been looking for somewhere to eat in the area with easy parking and this was it! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food arrived promptly, hot and was delicious. We had different items from the Christmas menu and liked it all. We would certainly return in the new year to try the standard menu.

What an amazing evening we had at this hotel yesterday. It had completely sold out when I tried to book this event but Joe the manager went above and beyond to include my party of three, This meant re arranging all the table plans he had already arranged just to accommodate us. From the moment we arrived at this beautiful setting we were greeted with friendly staff and a personal service, taking our coats and getting us drinks. The hotel was so lovely and warm and the atmosphere was so happy and friendly with regular customers laughing with the staff and other parties attending. The food and waiter service was incredible considering the amount of people attending- it was hot, exquisitely presented and was just tasted amazing. Then when the Rat Attack came on stage the party atmosphere really came to life, they were so professional singers and everyone was singing and dancing with them, taking requests and laughing with the audience-It was a fabulous night, enjoyed by us immensely - can’t wait to book again here again

We enjoyed a pleasant meal here with a very adequate menu. One of us had a few problems getting food that was gluten free. Ice cream served with a wheat biscuit which was rectified when we explained the problem

The large number of returning customers says most. Last occasion there was a family party of 20. There was another party of 60 plus about 10 other individuals in 2s & 4s. Service was good - relaxed but not slow. Book - to avoid disappointment!

This place is on our gold list at work. When working in St Albans we always stay here. Nice rooms, plenty of parking and the food is amazing!! Lovely staff too!! As a single female traveller I am always made to feel comfortable when dining by myself.

Nice venue, very friendly and helpful staff

We have been holding our annual RSM lunch, which attacks around 110 members, for the last eight years and we find the restaurant, standard of service & quality of food. If you like italian food this restaurant is a must. Chef is great and service excellent. Views of the gardens are nice and the decor is good

Excellent food, excellent sauces and superb service. Would eat there again now if I could. Can still taste the wonderful green peppercorn sauce.

More people need to know about this 'hidden gem' near the centre of St Albans. There are so few restaurants to visit these days where you can actually have a 'quiet' meal and be able to chat without having to shout above the noise and clattering that occurs in so many venues these days. Belvedere Ristorante stands out from the crowd, a beautiful restaurant with crisp white table cloths, fantastic food and first class, attentive service. Situated near the heart of St Albans but so peaceful and quiet with a lovely terrace overlooking the gardens. Why go anywhere else?

This is a great place tucked away in a leafy road in St Albans. 5 mins from the station and town. We had a fantastic night here again with great food, great service and a spotless venue. The Singer performed a fine tribute to such an iconic person. Well done!!! Joe and the team go out of there way to look after you and nothing is of any trouble at all. We enjoyed a wonderful evening at the belvedere Italian restaurant food fantastic and all staff were excellent and friendly. Would recommend to all people who enjoy good food and a great atmosphere.

Just had a great knight at the Belvadere, Whitney Houston singer was fantastic, great act and very entertaining. More than 90 people and the food was excellent and service good, can't wait for the next one

If you want spotless tablecloths, excellent choice of food beautifully cooked then visit the Belvedere , this family run hotel treats its customers warmly and professionally

Stayed here for a few nights. Beds are nice and so is food. Can be a while for them to sort keys out though if you order alot of rooms as it seems there is only one person doing the reception work. But all in all, it's a nice place.

We have been going here several times a year since it opened and have always enjoiyed an excellent meal cooked by the head chef Attilio and served by friendly staff. Is great for party's and occasionally they have live music. Moderately priced. The Belvedere restaurant is a hidden gem in the heard of St. Albans

The Belvedere Restaurant experience was very positive. Staff were friendly and very attentive. The space was private but still open and had an great ambience. The menu is extensive and a good choice of classic Italian dishes. I would definitely go back again.

We had a family gathering in this restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime. In many ways, it's like taking a step back in time, with somewhat old-fashioned items on the menu. But the food is good, tasty and well-served - the service is very engaging - and the wine list, whilst not adventurous, should provide something for most tastes. Overall, a decent meal in engaging surroundings for pretty good value.

Extensive menu made it very hard to choose what to eat but the food we chose was delicious and well-presented. Lovely, fun, personal waiters made the evening even more pleasant. Only criticism would be a limited array of vegetables with the main dish.

Often passed by and thought I'll go there, for years. I should trust my instincts . Can't wait to go back, it's got a good feeling there , happy staff, well managed, and a very good team, headed by a great chef , bit old fashioned in a nice way and not at all pretentious so we felt relaxed.

Had dinner with my girlfriend - birthday treat for her. She was not dissappointed. Excellent menu, food was well presented, and the waiter and manager (owner) were very friendly and attentative. Very good value. Will definately go there again.

The two nights we ate at this restaurant was great, the food was 5 star, well recommend.the menu was a great selection of Italian and English dishes.

We had a family gathering here. Some of the best food we have had anywhere from a vast menu. The setting and atmosphere was great and the brilliant service made it really special. Top Marks.

My family held the Wake for our brother at the Belvedere Restaurant, Ardmore House Hotel. From initial booking to service on the day, everything went very smoothly. There was a good choice of food to select from, was well cooked and presented on the day. Very pleasant restaurant with nice garden to the rear. Thank you all for everything on a sad occasion.

I have been booking a large party into the hotel for a weekend each January during the present owner's 20 year tenure and I invariably had good reports from members of the group about the comfort of the accommodation, friendliness and standard of service received from the staff; but I had not eaten there myself until my wife and I were invited to lunch there last week.What a magnificent restaurant, absolutely beautifully designed and decorated. Lots of light, sweeping canopies in the domed roof, chandeliers and absolutely clean lined stonework. The tables, all round and clothed with crisp white table linen and neat table settings are set off by attractive chairs. The whole restaurant has a feeling of spaciousness and graciousness. It gives an air of calmness and an instant comfortable atmosphere. And there's a view of a well tended garden.I had seen photographs, but the reality far outstripped the impression they gave.Service was friendly and prompt without feeling hurried. Now, the food. I understand that the chef is an Italian who prides himself on traditional cooking. Was it good? Yes, it was, it exceeded my expectations by a long chalk. My wife thought it was the best Italian meal she had ever had. It certainly ranked among the best I have experienced. Would I go again. Well, it's a little outside our normal dining distance but it would be well worth the effort. We have a special anniversary coming up later this year and I think it may be an opportunity to take a few relations and friends there for a celebration.I don't very often go for an excellent overall rating but the Belvedere certainly rates it.

My husband and I have recently visited this restaurant on 2 occasions with a group of friends and were delighted with everything. The setting is quite romantic.The selection on the menu was very wide, the food was cooked to perfection and the service was second to none. Nothing was too much bother. We had pre-selected our menu choices but they were only to happy to make changes at the last minute. There was something for everyone regarding wines and the price range was good. We can't wait to go again.They hold tribute nights from time to time and from what we have heard they are very, very good so I am waiting for the email to tell us of the next one and we will be there.The other particularly nice thing was that they did not try and kic us out in a hurry, they just let us drift away when we were ready.

We were delighted with our excellent event on Easter Sunday when 20 guests with a big range of ages, celebrated my father's 90th birthday with a lunch in the Belvedere Restaurant.We have had great feedback from all of the guests. The food was absolutely delicious, 20 starters, 20 main courses with a lovely choice of Roast Sirloin of Beef, Rack of Lamb, Supreme of Chicken Breast, Fillet of Cod or Roasted Bell Peppers, 20 desserts and coffees. All guests enjoyed all of the food which was beautifully cooked and presented, with only huge compliments and nothing even approaching a complaint. The wine flowed, and everyone loved the venue and said how much they had enjoyed themselves. This was particularly important as people had travelled from Brighton, Bognor, Norfolk and even Holland. One attendee remarked that it was absolutely perfect. We would like to take this opportunity to recommend this excellent venue and thank all the staff very much for making the occasion so wonderful for us. My father was delighted, and you don't celebrate your 90th birthday every day.

Lunch at the restaurant was excellent, changed the dining time no problem,family of four adults and two children, asked for a different starter for the kids no problem.hot plates and hot food, staff very helpful nothing too much trouble, I can't understand why more people aren't using this restaurant.

I had an Italian friend visiting and decided to take him here as it's just around the corner. Prompt friendly service. The warm home made bread rolls and the salted butter are delicious when you sit down. We all had different variations of spaghetti and it was truly the most amazing pasta I've ever had. My Italian friend said it was the best pasta he'd ever eaten in the UK, and he lived here for 5 years. It was so good I returned with my partner last Saturday and we were not disappointed. We will go back!

The menu is varied and all meals freshly cooked so they can accommodate allergies. The head waiter / possibly owner was a fantastic host, added to the experience. Thoroughly satisfied with the meal and the price also.

I was here with a large party for a funeral, stayed in the hotel and ate twice in the restaurant. The menu was very promising but the food was average. The rooms were very old fashioned but perfectly acceptable. The service was great though and we were very grateful for the way the sad occasion was handled, with grace and dignity. I just wish the food had been a little better.

The restaurant is part of the Ardmore House Hotel. We ate here as a large group, and really could not fault the service. Parking was a bit difficult, as when the restaurant is full, there are not enough spaces in the car park, but St Albans is always short on parking space.A group of about 60 had the bottom half of the restaurant, which is beaufifully decorated, although swags and tails may not be everyone's cup of tea. We had prechosen the menu and everything arrived faultlessly. Staff were attentive and it would encourage me to go back. I had broccoli and stilton soup, an excellent fish course, and an apple tart. The only mild grumble might have been that the tart had once been frozen, and still had a couple of ice crystals in it, a warm through in the microwave would have been appreciated. The wine was not over expensive.But I did enjoy my meal here, and would be happy to return.

This lovely restaurant serves traditional Italian food in an opulent setting. The staff are friendly and always ensure you enjoy your dining experience. We visit the Ardmore regularly and it is like coming home, and the food is always wonderful.

We had a prebooked sunday lunch for six adults and three children. We were apprehensive at being asked to choose all the food in advance and pay in full before arriving, but we need not have worried. All the food was excellent and the service attentive. The eating area is bright, spacious, and not too noisy. It was the second time we have eaten here and we will return again before too long.

There were 19 of us for an 80th birthday Sunday lunch, ranging from a 1-year old to the birthday girl herself. The gardens were compact and well tended, providing a nice view for pre-luncheon drinks and photos. The rain drove us indoors. The restaurant area, whilst busy, was spacious and well decorated. We had two adjacent tables and had pre-ordered our selections. Service was efficient though occasionally over-exuberant, as if they were trying just a little too hard to please, but nothing more than a minor distraction. Starters, main courses, and desserts were all very good. Most of us had chosen the beef, lamb, or seabass for main dishes, which were complemented by carrots, green beans, and roast potatoes. Portions were generous, and there were no problems obtaining extra portions of vegetables. Pianist in the corner was generally unobtrusive, raising the tempo for the sporadic birthday wishes (there seemed to be a few birthdays being celebrated!). The upper conservatory was a pleasant haven to sit leisurely afterwards. A very good experience all round.

We were greeted by charming, smiling staff who made it clear that we were welcome even though there was an event on that filled a large proportion of the restaurant.Décor is tasteful and bright and the table setting beautifully done.Service was always very prompt, never intrusive and wonderfully professional. But the food ........!The menu is extensive with a very large choice of very reasonably priced dishes, not only the classics, but also other non-Italian catering for all tastes and budgets.I cannot remember enjoying an Italian meal more, the breaded lamb I had was superb, with a wonderful sauce and crisp steamed vegetables. My companions had salmon and chicken dishes that were equally well received.Desserts were mainly the ice cream variety, but the classic French apple tart was good too.Well worth a visit!

As I'm italian, I can guarantee food, unlike that of many italian restaurants abroad, do justice to our renomed culinaru tradition. In addition, for customers of the annexed Ardmore House Hotel, prices are advantageous.

I have visited the belvedere a couple of times for family get togethers and whilst the waiters could smile a bit more service is good. Food quality could be better more specifically the meat as their fillet steak is often a bit chewy! On the whole the menu is a good selection of the traditional Italian choices and some dishes are well cooked. It is a restaurant with live music - singer and organist which appeals more to senior clientele and dancing encouraged. On the whole could be better in some areas.

We enjoyed our Sunday lunch here - good variety and good quality of food, nicely presented by friendly waiting staff. A minor point perhaps but they do need to sweep and wash the hard floors in this place - from the front door to the restaurant itself .... they do themselves no favours as it is.

whilst staying at the hotel this restaurant is housed in, it made sense to eat here. unfortunately, we had a wait of 40 minutes for our starters and the main wasn't nice. The wine list is mediocre and the atmosphere none existent.

I ate at this restaurant and was impressed by the ambience which was matched by some excellent quality and well presented food. The service was commendable and I was pleased I did not go into town and my next visit I/we will be dining here again. If you are not staying in this hotel make the effort to eat here and it will be a shame to miss an exceptional English breakfast.

We booked The Belvedere Restaurant at the Ardmore House Hotel to celebrate our son's 21st birthday for a party of 18 people with ages ranging from 20 up to 96. The venue was just right with an area in which guests could assemble and enjoy canapes and a drink prior to going through to the restaurant. Staff were friendly and keen to help in any way they could.The set menu at £30 per head offered very good variety and value - everyone agreed that the food was really delicious with freshly cooked vegetables and generous portion sizes, served efficiently with several staff in attendance to make sure that main courses arrived hot. Whilst we ate, the pianist played a selection of music that helped to create a relaxed and easy atmosphere though never becoming distracting or too loud to prevent guests from hearing one another over the table. You get the feeling that everything has been carefully planned so that the time between courses is well paced - you're not left waiting for ages but neither are you having course upon course too quickly. After tea/coffee was served the disco began and this was great fun. Again, catering for all ages, the music was well chosen and everyone enjoyed it. There were other parties of people celebrating their own special occasions but because each table is not positioned too closely to the next, there is never a sense of being squashed together though the friendly atmosphere encouraged a larger party feeling.We all had a brilliant evening and everyone agreed that it could not have been bettered in any way. Will we go there again? Most definitely!

We had a really lovely New Years Eve in this beautiful restaurant - the staff are very good and made it all look so lovely, they had a really good lady singer with a great voice then dancing in the new year . The meal was lovely and they did really well with so many people - delicious and very good service - would recommend this place - nice to go to eat and have a dance as well - they have dinner/dances every Friday and Saturday nights.

I should have posted this before, but better late than never!My husband booked this place for a surprise valentines dinner as our wedding anniversary is 15th Feb as well.Well it was a really lovely place, a set menu for £ 30 and the food was really good, and a chap on the piano playing beautifully the whole place was decorated beautifully with balloons and table confetti, even red diamontes placed in a heart shape on each table, a really LOVELY TOUCH, then the staff moved the centre table for anyone who would like to have a dance , then a chap came along later and sang on the mike, I think he was an elvis impersonator,possibly a staff member whom I think just decided to join in the last part of the evening ,the staff were very attentive and friendly they do have theme nights and we will defo be going back again soon ! Thank you Belevedere and all the staff !!!A memorable night out and we have told lots of people....
