This is the first time we have visited this pub for a couple of years, we were not disappointed. The setup is well organised for the virus rules. The beer was top quality as was the simple but excellent food. I will definitely go there again.

This small pub in the centre of Aldworth was like walking into a time slip from my childhood, without the smokers. They serve a great range of local beers, as well as all the other drinks you’d expect. Food is simple filled rolls, ploughman's, and regular specials. You sit on stools or benches and there’s a cosy log burner. Lots of dogs, lots of locals, Band nights and it’s cash or cheques only. Highly recommended.

We met up with some friends which they had suggested as I'd never been here. We were going for a walk then eating there so we arrived at about 10.30 before the pub had opened and seeing someone tidying up outside I checked it was ok to park there, and not only was it ok but he asked if my wife wanted to use the pub toilet first because he would show her through! Then while we were getting ready someone else came over and told us about the menu and that the pub had been owned through five generations. When we got back the pub was so busy we sat out in the garden and were provided with some plastic to sit on as the seats were damp, and then when a shower came over someone rushed out to put umbrellas up for us!The food was light food only rather than a full meal but very good value and a very good range of beers. Great atmosphere of course, and the feeling that this was a true 'pub', serving the village and guests in a way I thought had died out. I can't recommend it enough.

We had heard of this pub which is located just off the Ridgeway Path, so we hiked up one day from Goring. It was definitely worth the hike! Hugh, the owner (its been in his family for over 250 years) is a friendly, outgoing, cheerful man who goes out of his way to make you just what you want to drink and is willing to chat about his pub, his family and his community. You can see his pride shining from him and it is definitely justified. He made the best Pimm's we had on our two week trip to England and the food was tasty--full baps which held us over till dinnertime. Hugh recommended we hike on up to the church of the 'giants' which we did and are glad we were able to see it. It was very interesting! When we returned to the pub to ring for a taxi, there was none available, so the waitress offered to drop us off in Goring at our B&B; as she was leaving about then. What service! And the best part was Hugh's mum came out to meet us, shake my hand and thank us for being (1) Americans and (2) for the Americans having come over to England to help out during WWII. She told us stories of being a little girl during the war and how America had an airfield quite close to the pub. The aviators would come to the pub and visit with her, sharing their chocolate from home with her and her sister. Then they would pray in the garden before leaving on a raid. What a lovely memory to share with us and what a lovely woman she was. I wish I could remembered her name.

I loved this place, I wish we had a pub like this near me!! Nothing fancy, no TV, no music, no WiFi... just think, you have to talk to each other!!.. perish the thought!!.. BRILLIANT!!!.. Great Beer and excellent basic food, warm rolls rammed with filling and the ploughman's is what a ploughman's USED to be!...My only gripe is something that in my opinion is becoming far to common in pubs for my liking... "Dog Friendly"... I really don't want a dog shaking itself with flob and god knows what flying all over me whilst eating!!.. and guess what, no, I don't think your dog is cute!!. and i don't want him/her coming up sniffing me wrapping its lead around my legs whilst trying to get a drink!!... have a dog friendly pub if you must, but confine them to the garden, not the bar and certainly not the food area!.. apart from that what a great place!

As per usual, when we visit the Reading area, I was able to persuade (very easily it has to be said) my wife and our friend to visit this quintessentially English country inn. Most of the real ales are brewed locally and varied in flavour and type, some being brewed within a few miles. The rolls, whilst smaller than they used to be, are some of the best you'll ever taste.

Being new to the area, every person I’ve met have asked if I had been past The Bell. After 4 years of living in the U.K, I finally made my first visit on a Friday night. The pub was full of regulars who were extremely friendly, and you immediately feel the places identity, from a roofless outside toilet, to a pub that resembles an old wartime bond / post office full of hand written notes, stickers etc. It has charm in busloads. Our second visit was in the garden mid week for a pint and a famous bread roll, and again the place delivers exactly what it says on the box. Country charm, friendly regulars, beautiful setting and good beer.

Great cider & the mature cheddar cheese roll with onion was a beautiful marriage. Just nice to know it's the same haven from when I played cricket next door some 40 years ago. Thanks for remaining true.

Hard to fault. Well kept cask ale, simple but honest food, polite and attentive bar staff. Loved it.

This is how a pub should be.....A great landlord & friendly staff, serving fantastic beer, if you want a roll you can have one and they are very tasty .....But this is not a fancy gastro pub, it is a proper public house.... This place should never change, I love it !!!!

Over the years, not much has changed at The Bell at Aldworth which might just be how locals would like it to stay. I really enjoyed a local cycle or country drive to drink a half of 3Bs (handle glass) in this old-fashioned but characterful pub. In warm weather, it is particularly lovely to sit in the raised garden at the side. Do not harbour expectations of goumet food although they do a nice, warm stilton roll if you're lucky. The interior is cosy (cramped if packed & raining) and it can even get crowded in the garden on a sunny weekend or during in first Sat in Aug with Tour de Berks in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. However, I love this place and if there are too many vehicles parked down the road, I would always return another day.

If you are looking for a modern pub with everything that goes with it don't go here.If you only have a credit card your out of luck as well as they only take cash. If your looking for a pub that probably has not changed in a hundred years this is the place for you. You are served not at a bar but what I can only describe as a window and you sit mostly on wooden benches. There is a nice small garden area with lots of seats but be warned it gets busy on sunny day. No hot food here but Ploughman's and rolls. I personally always have the salt beef which is excellent. Placed in a great walking area it is ideally placed for a midday stop. So no moaning by reviewers you have been warned exactly what this place is like , love it or hate it. Personally I love it.

Visited today as my Dad went to school in Aldworth and wanted to show my children. aMy son was really hungry and had a turkey roll which was over £3 - and it was just a slice of turkey in a roll. Nothing extra, just that. My daughter had a sausage in a roll. Very disappointed with the ploughmans too. Nothing like the traditional one. Too fancy for a traditional pub. Lovely little pub in the sweetest of villages, but I think they charge over the odds.

This little pub is located in the village of Aldworth on the Berkshire downs and off the beaten track. Run by the same family for generations the pub has a well deserved reputation for a warm and friendly welcome and maintaining an excellent cellar, whilst there is a good range of rolls and ploughmans on the menu if you fancy something to eat. The pub is blessed with one of the prettiest gardens you will find and is less than 22 chains away from the village cricket pitch. If you want to show overseas visitors the model English pub take them here, you will not be disappointed.

Ignore my ratings. This might be a very good pub but Tripadvisor has placed it in a suburb of Reading...... which could be very confusing. So be warned.

Very good service throughout. Whilst we waited a while the knowledge of an order needing to be gluten free was the best I've experienced in ages. The chips were cooked in a fryer used for onion ring
