I booked a table for two on a Saturday. The 'restaurant' is really a pub with no extras. No place matts or cutlery on the table. The table was sticky to the touch so we asked for it to be cleaned. The staff are young, enthusiastic and cheerful but they need training. We waited twenty minutes to order finally having to rise and call someone to take our order. We waited another thirty minutes for our food which wasn't to be expected. The venue was busy and we hoped the food would be something special. When it arrived my plate was the wrong order. The waiter had misheard. The room is extremely loud from conversation because there are only bare walls. I struggled to hear him and he struggled of course to hear me. I returned the food but was told my wife couldn't return hers. My replacement dish would take another twenty minutes. I said in that case I would leave. The manager arrived and said they would do everything again including my wife's dish. By this time I had lost all enthusiasm for the venue and we left. It was disappointing as we never got to even taste the food. In summary, the sticky table was a bad first impression, the long wait to order added to this. Combined with the failure to read back our order this all adds up to a need for better staff training. I felt a great sympathy for the young waiting staff who were working their socks off to do a good job.

Caerleon was recommended to go tonn from the hotel we were staying at so looked up The Bell, menu sounded good and we were not disappointed. Real cider on tap, warm friendly welcome by every member of staff, food was amazing, the scotch egg starter was one of the best I've had in a very long time, all home cooked food, delicious and nothing too much trouble. Staff were just lovely, young bubbly and very attentive, landlord or manager, not sure who he.was, was a breath of fresh air, smiling, chatty. Had a lovely evening, thank you all so much

Lured here by friends who had a special of 'Rabbit 3 ways,' we were in awe of a place with such imaginative and tasty fare.Having had the cider infused scotch eggs on a previous visit we all four us opted for the starter of crispy belly pork and black pudding terrine with mushroom ketchup - devine!Mains of whole roasted seabass with lava bread and cockle butter were exceptional as was the perfectly cooked ribeye steak and the chicken kiev. After a breather, the pigs that we are, we followed with sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and a couple cheese boards.Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive.Hoping to make this a regular event.(we'll also being checking out their Sunday dinners too!)

It was a pity there were no cold dishes for a very hot day. There were some odd flavour combos. Tofu dressing? And a jug of water should be always offered in such heat. Panacotta was too solid. Sorry to be a bit negative. It must be so difficult with Covid and staff shortages.

We visited this pub whilst on holiday in the area. We discovered it via reviews on TripAdvisor so thought we would give it a go. We did not book in advance but they were able to seat us in the garden. The pub itself is beautiful, in a small village with Roman interest. If you like history, this is the place for you. The menu was interesting and very reasonable priced. I was very pleasantly surprised to see several vegan options on the menu. I had the beetroot salad, followed by vegan sausages and mash and sorbet for dessert. My friend had the asparagus followed by the hake. It was all delicious. The service was attentive and friendly but not over bearing. The prices were very reasonable. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

I went to the Bell last week for Sunday lunch and must say its the best roast dinner I have had in a pub ever! I'm not a fan of eating out for Sunday lunch as a rule, I have found the meat to be over cooked, the veg disgusting and the gravy weak watery and tastless, however, I could not fault anything with this meal, plenty of meat, loads of veg and served hot. If there was one down side the service,it was slow. I realise the pub was busy but there were times when the staff seemed to be standing around doing nothing, that aside I highly reccommend going there for lunch.

The main courses were good but the desserts were very good. The Bell is off the beaten track but very close to both the Roman amphitheatre and the Celtic Manor. Its a lovely old pub, some would say dated in appearance. But the food is very good, with a menu which is tbat bit different. For example, the steak is served in a burger bun in a tray tbat you would expect to receive in a well known high street burger outlet. I chose the chicken naan sandwich and it was very tasty. All 6 dishes arrived hot to the table. The desserts were beautifully presented, a tower of fresh welsh cakes with fruit compote; a shard of mint chocolate, with honeycomb, mint chocolate sauce and homemade mint chocolate ice cream; a selection of local cheeses served with biscuits or bread included a black cheese. the chef clearly has an eye for detail, imagination and pleasing presentation. this pub is well worth the detour. ample parking in the upper car park. please book if you want to go for Sunday lunch because it gets very busy.

It’s a warm and friendly place to be. The Oliver’s Island ale was a lovely pint. The lunch menu is concise but that is a good thing. I had “The True Brit” and enjoyed it very much. The only change to improve it for me would be a slightly thicker gravy. That’s a personal thing. The gravy taste was delicious. Welsh cakes, curd and cream for dessert. A first for me and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was friendly and its always good to have a bit of banter. Happy first visit and will gladly return to sample the evening menu.

Went to The Bell for a quiet beer during the Caerleon Arts Festival. I bought a nice chilled pint of cider and sat down to watch the World Cup 3rd / 4rh place play off along with some other customers. Shortly into the game we were told the Landlady didn't want football to be shown and a staff member then turned off the TV without any consultation with any of the customers watching it. Firstly I query why there was a TV in the first place and secondly why people were lured into a pub showing football to buy drinks and then autocratically being told they couldn't watch TV. Not my kind of pub I'm sorry. Also too many dogs about and I don't like having my leg humped all afternoon with increasing regularity. I will be using alternative pubs in future until there is a change of management.

My partner and I decided to go for a late Sunday lunch and on the off chance came across this little place. They kindly managed to fit us in even though they were busy.

This was our second visit to the Bell. The food is really good and we enjoyed our meal. The issue was we were jammed into a table next to a noisy group although other tables were available. Every time they walked passed to use the loo they almost touched our food! We were last in the restaurant and someone switched the lights out! It was 10.30 I suppose:) that wasn’t too welcoming! The final straw was getting the mop and bucket out and the over powering smell of lemon cleaner wafting toward our table. It just spoilt it for us. First visit the service was a bit flaky too so for us we would not return. Pity as the food was lovely.

It was decent enough. The food was very good. The service was very friendly, but a bit confusing. We'd pre-booked, and had to hunt for someone to show us to our table. Drinks and the food came quickl
