Relaxing ‘Fire and Ice’ spa experience and overnight stay- good value at £115 ( including dinner and breakfast) Staff very polite and helpful. Buffet for starters and main great value and choice but desserts uninspiring set menu. Room and bedding comfortable.

Service fine. We both ordered soup and a sandwich. Worst soup and sandwich we’ve ever had. Broccoli and Stilton soup was that thick you could stand the spoon in it and definitely not hot enough. Sandwich dry and tasteless and hubbys coronation chicken filler was so salty he couldn’t eat it (which is not like him to leave food!) When I went to pay I mentioned the salty indelible sandwich and all I got was “sorry that’ll be £19 please”… Over priced for what we got and not a great experience. Unfortunately we won’t be back.

Visited on the day of the Kirkcudbright Tattoo, it was busy inside so we sat outside with our wee dog. We ordered the local burger it came with salad and chips and it was absolutely delicious, piping hot served on a proper morning roll with lovely crisp fresh salad and coleslaw, it was presented well and I was impressed. Service was friendly and when there was a black cloud overhead with a spit of rain we were offered the last table inside, we persevered outside the sun came back out and it a beautiful hot day (it is Scotland after all) When we are back in the area we will definitely visit again.

Absolutely lovely wee cafe. Staff are young and friendly. Menu is simple, but check out the specials board for more complex dishes. Food was made quickly and efficiently and tasted delicious. We had a variety of dishes, a toasty, scampi, veggie burger, an omelette. All were made really well and so tasty with beautiful fresh salad accompaniments. Coffee was great, cakes and desserts looked fab although we were stuffed and couldn't manage them. It was really busy too, always a good sign.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This was a really disappointing experience. There are two main issues- the first is choice, the second is quality. In terms of choice, the menu has only a few hot items, but then a number of ‘specials’ and ‘over-65 specials’. Bizarrely, there are things on the over-65 specials which are not available for under-65s to buy. I am used to seeing special smaller portions at a lower price, but not a whole entirely separate menu only available to over-65s. In terms of quality, absolutely everything is straight out of the freezer into a deep fat fryer. I paid £9.95 for a ‘posh fish finger sandwich’. I expected the ‘posh’ to mean that these would be thick, quality fish fingers, but instead I got three of the cheapest fish fingers from the freezer aisle at Iceland. As you probably in know, these disappear to nothing once they are deep fried, meaning that my fish finger sandwich was pretty tasteless. Overall, there is nothing absolutely terrible about my experience here, but you’re paying prices you’d expect in a natty cafe and eating really unimpressive food.

Visiting for the day hoping to find somewhere really nice for lunch as it was my birthday, everywhere we went was closed so we called in here. The smell of grease from the fryers hits you straight away but with no other options we sat down, plenty of others came and went too. Can’t fault the staff, very pleasant, but I think their meal prices are quite high for what is essentially a cafe.

Had visited on a few occasions when in Kirkcudbright and was glad to see it was open again after all the covid restrictions. There was a hand gel dispenser at the door and a small sign on the floor to stay 2m apart, but I'm afraid that's where the good practice ended. Tables and chairs in usual layout meaning no distancing, staff with no masks or gloves(including kitchen), no spray screen at till and no visible effort to ensure tables between customers. This on the day when the city of Aberdeen is put back on lockdown. They say that if things feels normal, they aren't. This was like life before covid 19. Even with a sign on the wall to wear a mask, none of the staff did. Very worrying.

We come to Kirkcudbright each year at the end of October. we have always visited the Belfry Cafe at least twice in that week. Previously I gave this cafe a 5star review. What a disappointment this week when we arrived to find a dirty greasy spoon of an establishment. One of the tables was totally covered piled mountain high with dirty crockery and it certainly looked as though it had been there some time that morning. Numerous tables had plates with half eaten very greasy remains of food. The air stank heavily of grease. Other tables had customers with half full plates of food awaiting their half finished plates to be taken away. There were some nice trays of fresh looking home made scones, but most other things looked very unappealing. we did sit at a table, but no waitress came and staff seemed preoccupied in the open plan kitchen (certainly no one was attending to customers or sorting the mountain of dirty dishes). We decided not to stay and felt so disappointed in our visit. The place just felt so run down and dowdy from the café we previously enjoyed visiting. I wouldn't eat or have a drink here and consequently can no longer recommend this place. So sad!

We had a really lovely lunch in the Belfry Cafe! The best thing about it was how lovely the staff were- they were so welcoming, attentive and efficient! We couldn't believe how quickly our order arrived! The food was quite 'fancy' in terms of not really having plain things like a simple cheese and tomato panini, but this wasn't a huge issue, and the paninis came with a very nice salad. They were quite filling! The bacon roll was also very nice. This cafe has a lovely atmosphere with quirky, homely decor, and is in a really central location in Kirkcudbright, so it's handy to get to. I highly recommend it!

This was an extremely popular little cafe, and whilst we were there many folk came and reserved tables. The food was very good and plentiful, if a little expensive. Although eating out is a lot more expensive in Scotland we have found. It is only a small place so if you do get a lot of noisy children in, which we did have, it can be a little distracting. Nevertheless the food was very good and the staff very friendly,

Just needed something light. The Belfry seemed nice from the outside and there were quite a few people in so we gave it a try. Really pleasant friendly staff. Super quick service. Huge (but heavy) pot of tea for two - made a great cuppa. Homemade soup which personally i wouldve preferred a degree or two hotter. It was hot but not piping hot. Nice scones - cheese one with the soup and a fruit one with jam. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place, unpretentious, looks like typical local cafe but this belies quality of food (Scottie dog haggis sausage in fresh baked baguette is superb special, banana pancakes with gorgeous toffee sauce sublime). Great facilities - eg baby changing. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Stopped in Moffat en route to Glasgow on business. Unfortunately,I had the misfortune to be served by an extremely unfriendly and unhelpful sales assistant. This type of person used to be know as a chav. Whoever owns the business needs to be more careful who they hire. The sandwich wasn't even third rate and ended up in the bin. Take my advice give this bakers a miss.

Is it ok for a hospitality business not to take any details from customers during this time I think this is very irresponsible and I do hope no one has the virus and just carries on passing it because this business does not care, not one member of staff had a mask on and members of the public could go behind the bar and serve customers if the staff where busy
