Authentic old fashioned country pub, very friendly staff and a warm welcome. Had the sticky chili beef and the squid for starters, very tasty and generous portion. Mains were the steak and ale pie and the surf and turf. Steak and ale pie packed with meat in delicious pastry, creamy mash and beefy thick gravy. Highly recommend this great little pub, a real hidden gem

Just reviewing atmosphere, friendliness and of course the drinks - what a spot this is with 6 real ales on hand pulls. Beers from the Pheasantry Brewery and Abbeydale. Top quality beers. Really friendly staff. We went 3 times over the weekend and had a great time. Also met some great locals and other tourists. Many mention the quirkiness - next time we'll try the food! Also visited the Ferry Boat - which had a great deal on fish and chips - 2 for £20 on Friday evening and Pheasantry beers too, got BBQ food from Doddington Farm Shop and visited Gainsborough whilst camping nearby at Trentfield Farm. Motorhomers note The Bees Knees does Britstops! Thanks Bees Knees - you are the bees knees!

The meals were very affordable infact I would say underpriced, very difficult to say as a yorkshireman! On leaving the boss came for a goodbye chat and some sporting banter plus a proper handshake. Scotch egg starter and fish pie are a favourite . I recommend you book for a table if you wish to eat, having turned up a couple of times to find them fully booked. What could be better after a day on the river water skiing, than getting pie eyed at The Bees Knees! David, your host is courteous, flamboyant, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes down to the hard stuff! He not only runs this very successful Inn in the picturesque village of Laneham in North Nottinghamshire, but also distils his own brand of exclusive gin in memory of his late Mum Lydia, which believe you me is sensational. The bar in Laneham has had a few tweaks since my last visit, but still remains inviting, friendly and full of character.I wish David and his hard working team all the success they deserve to drive the business forward, but especially the distilling side, as I feel this may become very interesting indeed in the not too far distant future!

We stayed at a cottage just 50yards away and our first night thought we'd pop in for a quick pint and maybe some chips. After ordering the steak and ale pie, and the cajun chicken burger alongside a couple of ales made in their brewery, we sat down to enjoy the cosy atmosphere, and some impeccable hospitality. The food arrived quickly and we quickly realised this was the best pub meal we have ever had. The cajun chicken burger was not only huge, but delicious and well seasoned, with plenty of sides of onion rings, salad, coleslaw and a sauce with some of the biggest, chunkiest and most perfectly cooked chips. The pie came with all the sides and a jug of gravy to top. All the foods have been locally sourced and freshly cooked, the owner checked in with us to make sure everything was ok and it was the first time we've sent full compliments to the chef. A quick visit for a pint soon turned into an evening of several different ales and full bellies after we 'forced' down a pretty epic homemade cheesecake. Thank goodness for my gut feeling ! I visited The Bees Knees with my wife and father, who is very picky where food is concerned and was very happy with the food (starters and main courses were excellent) pity we didn't have enough room for dessert served by excellent, friendly and obliging staff in a welcoming and pleasant environment. Watching food come out to other people we were all impressed by the look of the huge fish. We ordered a range of things from the menu and we were all pleased with our choices. Steaks were cooked as ordered; I prefer rare and it was spot on. The mini fish was a decent size and normal fish was enormous. The staff were helpful and efficient, when there was a slight issue with our drinks order it was sorted with no problems. Our food bill came to under £90, we only had mains and were all full to bursting. Well worth the money so I know that we will be back again soon, 8 satisfied customers. Thank you

A busy pub where the landlord is either cooking amazing quality meals for the price (he has other chefs as well) or shaking hands out front. It’s like pubs used to be but you rarely find today...our favourite, so I don’t know why I am reviewing this to tell everyone else as well. The menu is varied with some great non meat / fish options, and several more choices on the specials board. Don't be fooled by the simple explanations, the food is really very good quality, with generous portions, and the meal we were served was truly flavorsome. For mains three of us had turkey with the trimmings and one had the baked cod with garlic prawns. Again all were amazing. For desserts we had gin and tonic cheesecake, yum! And chocolate mousse, which was dark and rich but not too sweet.

Three of us visited the Bees Knees having booked a table in the bar in advance. Mine host, David Anderson, showed us to our table personally and explained that he uses only local produce (with the exception of fish courses) and makes his own pastry for the pies as all his courses are prepared on the premises - so no "boil in the bag" meals here. Even so, the waiting time was quite acceptable and the food was both piping hot, copious, and very tasty. We chose prawn cocktail for starters followed by the main courses. I had the chicken pie with carrots, mange-tout and baby sweetcorn and chips, whilst the others had beef lasagne with salad, and fishcake with trimmings. We would have had puddings but were just too full! Our main meals were £9.95 each which represented excellent value for money. We noticed that diners at an adjacent table had fish and chips and the fish was so large it was served on a rectangular platter rather than a round dinner plate. David had time to chat with us after the meal and explained that he distills his own gin which he sells at the bar along with a very wide variety of gins. He is also a very keen fan of Scottish Rugby should there be any need for an ice-breaker. The staff were very attentive, the locals were friendly enough, and kindly pointed out the the toilets (which were spotlessly clean by the way) are in a separate building across the car park.

First visit to eat and had an amazing evening. Staff were excellent and the food first rate, I have to say the Hunters Chicken is one of the best I have ever had! Other members of the party had steak pie/scampi and were equally impressed. It is also great that, as a dog lover, our four legged friends are welcome but I do think one of the eating areas could be seen as "dog free" as personally I feel dogs should not be around food. This however takes nothing away from a fantastic village pub that I will look forward to using again

On this occasion virtually nothing could have been better, when we arrived on the Saturday with friends night the bar was packed but we were welcomed almost immediately on arrival & shown to our table. Drinks were ordered & while there was a short delay it was nor excessive.

What a pub! Traditional boozer with a selection of well kept ales and real ciders. David the landlord is a really nice bloke and the locals all made us feel welcome. We had the fish and chips, which I think are the best fish and chips I have had in a pub; the large was enormous!!

A real find this one. Great choice of beers and a huge gin library. The food was excellent, proper home made, good choice and reasonable prices for this quality. A very friendly place with a relaxed atmosphere. The only minor irritation was that the toilets, whilst spotlessly clean, were across the car park, luckily it wasn't raining.

Another super meal and night out with some friends at this lovely little pub. Great welcome, great atmosphere, great food, great service and, of course, great beer and gin. My crab salad was divine and the rest of our ‘gang’ had beautifully cooked fish that overflowed the plates. What more could one ask!

We visited with 2 other couples. The were 8 cask ales to choose from (as well as the obligatory host of gins). We had a meal, which was silly money cheap. To round things off, there was a live jazz trio playing. The decor is really traditional, without any fancy fripperies.

A warm friendly welcome from all the staff, fabulous hosting, delicious food (generous portions too) and a fabulous range of drinks. We all enjoyed it enormously, and will be back again without a doubt. Thank you to David and the whole team

A large group of friends with kids visited for tea. The results of our evening were astounding. A plethora of Ales to whet appetite, cocktails in abundance with a solid food menu to suit everyone’s palate. Portions are big where two courses are hit busting and three are for Man v Good wannabes. With over 100 different gins to discombobulate even a season ginner. All topped off by the most welcoming of owners and staff. Did I mention the micro-brewery!!! 11/10
