The Bay Tree in Hambleton

Had a fantastic meal here with my partner ! The food was brilliant had the pigeon breast as a starter , venison wellington as a main and Eaton mess for pudding 😋 we eat out a lot and can honestly say that the chef at the bay tree is so talented , all the food was cooked to utter perfection and a good portion too . The staff were really friendly and our meal served in a good time and atmosphere was cosy and relaxed 😌 I would certainly recommend this place if you enjoy extremely good food xx

If you love quality food, cooked to perfection in friendly comfortable surroundings in the heart of a lovely village in the countryside, then this pub is a la carte, without the snobbery & at affordable prices. Don’t by pass this place because of parking, there is places to park here just maybe not right outside, but believe me the short walk to eat here will be worth every footstep. The belly pork is top notch & the chicken Thai curry went down a treat with my hubby, who stated it was up there with one of the best Thai curry’s he has had to date. Landlady a lovely people’s person & obviously the Chef is worth his weight in gold.

What a lovely family run pub. Great food; sea food platter as a starter was amazing as was the prawn and salmon starter, the venison pie melted in our mouths and my friend literally wolfed the sea bass, it was that tasty! We arrived mid week and participated in the local pub quiz which was great fun. They also have Cooper King gin so what’s not to like! We will certainly be returning…soon.

What a fantastic pub. Lovely food, atmosphere and Yorkshire service. Stillington is such a lovely village made even better by the fact it has two cracking pubs which both do good food but maintain their proper pub atmosphere!

A great meal, great beer, lovely staff, especially Claudia the landlady, will definitely be back sometime in the new year.

I've written 2 Tripadvisor ratings in my life and only because they deserve it and this pub deserves it. Fantastic service and food. We were very well looked after in this warm and inviting pub. My husbands Flat Iron steak was cooked to perfection and believe me, he's very fussy but the Chef recommended medium/rare and that was how it came! My daughter had the Venison pie - delicious - I am now going to try and make it at home. I had the Turkey christmas dinner with all the trimmings and I loved it. Every meal we've had under this ownership has been good, so it is now in my top list of go to and believe me, I'm fussy too! Enjoy!

Highly recommend a visit to the Bay Tree. The hospitality received was fantastic and the food served was simply amazing - just delicious and beautifully presented too. All of the staff looked after us so well which helped to make it such an enjoyable evening and we will definitley return when we are in the area again. Thank you to you all.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch today. Roast pork with all the trimmings which was absolutely delicious with perfectly cooked vegetables. We ordered more vegetables and gravy as they were so lovely. We were a table of 7 on a busy Saturday evening. The service was excellent, we felt neither rushed nor kept waiting. Great choice on the menu and 7 empty plates spoke volumes from our fussy group. One said the pie pastry was so light and perfect. Hot plates - it’s the little things! Puddings were delicious and a good choice. The Bay Tree has a lovely ambiance and we really enjoyed our evening there. Thanks to Claudia and the team.

Fabulous food. Haven't eaten at The Bay Tree since the new management took over - and what have we been missing. The pub was busy, great vibe and the owner and staff very welcoming. Our food was excellent - fish perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. We were really impressed and will be back.

Visited this pub a year ago for Sunday Lunch. Pork with all the trimming. It was outstanding with a full plateful of food lots of mean and a substantial amount of vegetables. I year later I went again for Sunday Lunch and the portions were half the size if that. I had 2 thin slivers of pork. The veg was carrots. Cabbage and cauliflower cheese. Really small amounts. For 4 people .There was not enough food for the 4 of us and when we got home were were still hungry and 70.00 poorer. Wont be going back again

Stopped on the way back to our holiday accommodation in Stillington after a long and exhausting day in York city centre. Very warm welcome and lovely atmosphere, if it was our local we’d be in there all the time. Food came up piping hot and fresh, good choice on the menu supplemented by a specials board. l had creamy garlic mushrooms and a roasted pepper, sundried tomato and tender stem risotto with rocket and parmesan shavings, and my husband had the smoked salmon and prawn roule and the burger with pulled pork - huge portions and quality was good. Lovely tasty meal - all the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. Happy to give it a five star review. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Myself and 12 year old son (he's autistic and a fussy eater) visited a couple of weeks ago on an impromptu Friday evening. The assistant manager (lovely woman) greeted us and was very attentive throughout as were the serving staff and manageress. My son had one of the coveted pizzas only available on certain days, with toppings easily changed to suit his specific tastes. It was done in an authentic pizza oven and if you get a well done from my son, you really are onto a WINNER! I had the ½ portion of haddock and chips. It was seaside fresh, with crispy batter and homemade chips. Absolutely divine and a generous portion size too - I wouldn't have been able to finish a full portion that's for sure. I was stuffed but my son found space in his legs for the brownie pudding with icecream - again a big thumbs up. We were pleasantly surprised at the bill considering the quality of the food ordered, we have paid much more for lesser quality. The recent change in management has completely revolutionised The Bay Tree and I hope many more patrons rediscover this absolute gem in North Yorkshire. Its a 110 mile round trip for us and we will be back, put it that way.

We had such a lovely evening recently in the Bay Tree. Becky is such a wonderful host and the food/service is exceptional. We felt like the experience was more towards fine dining rather than at a local Pub. A first visit to a place we have heard consistently good reports of, it didn't disappoint. From the way our phone booking was managed all the way through our arrival, dining and leaving, there was always a truly professional but extremely friendly manner offered. The menu is not enormous but sufficiently varied to cater to all tastes and whist I am not vegetarian, the choices on offer certainly looked interesting and far from "standard veggie offerings". The wine list is, again, not huge but offers both variety and value, I was particularly delighted by the offering of a glass at a pro rata price to a full bottle:-250 ml glass for 1/3 of the full bottle price etc.Crab linguine starter was served with a "Bloody Mary" shot; tomato essence, vodka and wasabi. that was superbly balanced and a great way to start the meal. My wife had a ham hock that was every bit as well cooked and seasoned as the linguine. Mains of duck breast and braised shin of beef were easily equal in quality and flavour to the starters, vegetables cooked to perfection and sauces very well judged. A white chocolate and raspberry brownie with homemade raspberry ice cream was surprisingly light and looked a picture on the plate too!.Service was spot on, friendly, informative and efficient. The bill when it arrived was also a pleasant surprise, cooking this good can often cost considerably more. This place is a real find and we look forward to a return visit soon.

I will premise this review by saying that it would be unjust to contain my rating to 5 stars, notwithstanding that is the maximum rating. Our experience went above and beyond what would warrant 5/5. From our initial contact with Becky, we felt such a genuine welcome to enjoy an evening at her family's wonderful eatery. Make no mistake - this is not a case of "typical pub food". This is a top class dining experience, but at a particularly reasonable price. Reading through earlier reviews, I am confident that our experience reflect those of many visitors before us. The food was delicious and the surroundings lovely, but most of all Becky's service will stick with us. At one point, I felt that we could have been at a private dining experience - such was the attention to detail. I arrived with high expectations, but they were exceeded - even from the coffee and (separate) gin that started our stay of around 3 hours. By the time we were leaving, we had enjoyed delicious food and drink, and had established a connection to both Becky and other patrons - such is the dynamic that existed. If we did not live hours away, I would go back multiple times. I absolutely recommend that you enjoy the experience!

What a truly wonderful pub! I want to thank Becky and the team for an outstanding dining experience this bank holiday weekend! On arriving at the pub we instantly fell in love with it’s beautiful decor and cute little garden (in which we were allowed to feed the pet rabbits!). Becky was so welcoming, friendly and attentive. All the food eaten was outstanding. The gorgeous home made bread and the delicious roast dinner are certainly worth the visit. However, the white chocolate and raspberry brownie stole the show. I can't put into words how amazing this place is... From the beautiful decoration and the gorgeous outdoor area to the amazing food and happy service from Becky, the hostess with the mostest, we had a perfect Sunday afternoon here! We had a takeaway roast during lock down, ate it in the rain at home, thoroughly enjoyed it and decided then and there that we had to come back and try it again in the restaurant, and it was worth the wait! Becky was really attentive and friendly, the white chocolate and raspberry brownie was the best pudding I've Ever had, and the whole experience was just perfect! Thank you everyone at The Bay Tree for a great Sunday Roast!!

This lovely pub is absolutely fabulous. It's like walking into a hug. Becky is front of house and she really is the hostest with the mostest. Bubbly, chatty and very friendly, I felt like I'd known her forever. Becky is well informed about the food she is serving you and gives you little insights into her life. Daniel is the chef and he is extremely talented, his food looks pretty and tastes amazing. We ate on an early bird special, which was £20 each for two courses. You picked off the regular menu, we couldn't believe what we got for it money. No pub grub here, this food is above and beyond that and more. We wish we'd booked both our holiday meals here.Thank you Becky and Daniel. We will be back to see you, and good luck to the trainer in the kitchen. In restaurants we often choose the vegetarian option and we are often disappointed. No so at the Bay Tree. Folk in this kitchen know how to cook. Wonderful experience at The Bay Tree visiting last night. Lovely decor and garden area with a wonderful warm welcome from Becky who looked after us fantastically all evening. We are a small family of 3 and, having stayed in Stillington for a week long break, regret not dropping on to the Bay Tree sooner. The Pub is very well turned out and has an upmarket feel while still retaining a country pub character and charm. We were made to feel extremely welcome by the team of Becky and Dan (chef extrodinaire) and felt instantly at home. The food was extrodinary and needs to be experienced to be beleived. All topped off by a bill coming in around the norm for us all including a couple of drinks. Gastronomy at pub lunch prices, whats not to love.

Just had the most amazing Sunday Roast takeaway. We had Lamb and Pork Belly, great portions and top quality food! Finished with sticky toffee pudding which was delicious! Tried the Sunday lunch takeaway for first time during these strange times. Made a lovely change from cooking and the food was excellent quality, large portions and kept warm during 15 min drive home. Ordering and collecting seamless as well. Highly recommended and well done to the owners for adapting to the circumstances and will be back again soon, hopefully for a meal and drink on-site as well.

Booked for 6oclock, ready on the dot and at the right temperature. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and the food is amazing. The little twists that the chef/owner added to the meals were brilliant. His partner and co-owner looked after the bar and was always attentive to us. Stopping for a chat to tell us the history of these young owners. My wife and I visited The Bay Tree Stillington after a bit of searching for a local country pub. We weren't sure about The Bay Tree since we hadn't previously. Well we're we glad we went. These were two of the nicest meals we have ever had. The little twists that the chef/owner added to the meals were brilliant. This young couple have a great pedigree between them and some lovely food ideas. The menu on a smart phone is a little hard to read, but that's just small screens. Dont let that put you off try this place and enjoy the experience.

We visited with friends who eat here a lot and I can see why. The food was delicious (almost entirely the owner in the kitchen) and the front of house is great. Hi Daniel and Becky. They are great hosts. The bar itself is welcoming and I'm looking forward to being back.

Last Sunday the manager booked us in for a late (4pm) lunch as we were busy. When we arrived all the other customers had finished and gone but the front of house lady and her chef husband made us very welcome and did not ruch us at all. We were first served delicious home made bread and oil and then a delightful amuse bouche. My wife and I both ordered the traditional Sunday lunch with beef. The food was top quality. I like lots of gravy and they provided me with an extra jug. The Yorkshire puddings were very good. They had one of my wife's favourite red wines by the glass which she enjoyed, I asked the front of house for a recommendation which was superb.

Decided on the early bird menu, Crispy chicken wings, Hake tagliatelle and a cheeseboard, all absolutely delicious, chef obviously passionate about his food and delivered to a very high standard, highly recommend.
