The people that own the Bay Tree are really friendly and gave us a very warm welcome.Staff really good.Food was top notch, great portions,fantastic flavours.And Pints of Guinness that are as good as any you will in Ireland.Thanks so much for 2 lovely night at the Bay Tree.Tom&Ann London.

We booked a table for a Saturday lunch in order to catch up with an old friend we hadn’t seen for ages. The Bay Tree was new to all of us but was a convenient distance to meet in the middle, so to speak. We were given a warm welcome by both the staff and the real fires. It was almost like stepping into somebody’s sitting room and being invited to stay for a meal. The food was beautifully cooked and very reasonably priced. Even though they were supposed to close at 2.30pm, we were still chatting at 2.45 but there was no hint that we should be on our way. It was a great lunch and I hope we get a chance to go there again. Highly recommend you visit if you can.

Visited on a Saturday, the food as per normal was excellent and the service was top notch, you cannot fault this pub for what it does and while some might say it is without the bell's and whistles, what it does hits the spot every time! There is always a warm and friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble.

Perfect place for a Birthday celebration. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the homemade ice cream has to be tried to be believed! We will definitely be back.

Lovely and friendly owner who clearly took pride and joy from making this a homely experience. Food was great. We had the sirloin steak and a beef and Guinness pie. Both cooked very well and sizeable portions. We will be coming back and can recommend others do the same.

Good night out, good food nice and hot all turned up at the same time. Was a little slow for food to get out but not terrible delay. Wasn’t a packed restaurant area, staff were friendly enough and didn’t overwhelm you with checking in like a lot of places. Helpful with a query. Would go again.

I visited The Bay Tree for Sunday lunch with family members. It is a very nice country style pub. We got our drinks and were taken to our table by a very friendly server. We ordered the meals, roasts all round and they were brought out a few minutes later. The portions were very generous and we loaded them even more with the vegetables brought separately. Our meals were excellent and were consumed with enthusiasm. Even though we were full, we did make room for dessert. My Spotted Dick with piping hot custard was very pleasant and flavoursome. Thank you Bay Tree. I will be back.

We went here for the first time today and I'm blown away. I really fancied the steak even though--until today--I'd never had a good steak in a pub and I even told them as such. Well the sirloin I had today was cooked well (to medium) and a nice cut of meat too. The onion rings that came with it were probably the best onion rings I've had out; they had a nice sweetness and easy to bite through without taking the entire ring out of the batter. The chips were crispy on the outside, golden, and fluffy on the inside. Perfection. And the crowning glory of my meal was actually the creamy pepper sauce. It was a generous portion that lasted my entire meal, including for the chips and onion rings. The taste and creaminess was spot on. It's by far the best peppercorn sauce I've had at a restaurant and reminded me of my grandmother's peppercorn sauce. In fact the sauce was so spot on if I didn't know she was no longer with us I would have had to check in the back of the kitchen to make sure she didn't make it herself. My wife was worried she'd have food envy of my steak when she ordered the lasagne. However, she was delightfully happy with her choice. And she loved the tolberone cheesecake for desert. Oh and the homemade garlic bread to start was really nice. Way better than garlic bread most places and very clearly homemade. I'd recommend this place to anyone and we will definitely be back. I want to try a burger next time, but I'm worried I'll regret it not having the creamy pepper sauce again.

Brilliant place to celebrate a birthday. Wonderful food and atmosphere - can’t recommend enough. The best place to eat in Castle Cary. We all need to suppprt this business.

Sunday 23rd July, wow, wow,wow. They accommodated all the children’s needs, food was piping hot and the amount was plentiful. Clean great service. Highly recommended. We’ve lived in Cary for 26 yrs and our first time for Sunday lunch.

We called in on our way through Castle Cary and we're very pleased we did! Friendly, welcoming staff and an excellent range of home cooked food. There was also a good range of gluten free options. The steak and ale pie was the best I have had and there was a choice of oaccompaniments. Desserts were also varied and excellent, would recommend the fresh pineapple and homemade ice cream. Would not hesitate to go there again, it's even worth a detour off of the main road into Castle Cary from the Sparkford direction.

We went for a drink at lunchtime, the day after the coronation. There were street parties going on elsewhere in the town and the place was very quiet as a result. Service was good, beer was good, food was good. We had veggie pancakes and a small pork roast. Both very good. Syrup pudding and homemade raspberry ripple ice cream - both excellent. It's not gourmet and doesn't pretend to be. Just good solid honest pub grub. Good value too. We'll definitely be back.

My wife, baby son and I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Bay tree for the last couple of days. The atmosphere and welcome was fantastic. The food was superb quality, beautifully cooked and presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly, professional and kind. The choice of food and drink is extensive - there is something for everyone! We can’t wait to return to the Bay Tree and would heartily recommend you visit here! We particularly enjoyed Tilly the cat and Rocky the parrot!!

Had a wonderful meal at the Bay Tree. The burgers were some of the best we had eaten in a long time. Staff were very attentive and friendly and they had things very well set up for Covid.Again, the only down side was a lack of local ales which I was expecting and looking forward to. Seems to be a theme for local pubs in Castle Cary. However, this didn't take away from a really lovely evening.

I have lived within 3 miles of the Bay Tree and although I have driven past on innumerable occasions, am ashamed to say I have never been inside - until today. What a very enjoyable surprise. Firstly, how can a building be bigger on the inside? Once inside, the greeting is warm and friendly, and the general ambience is very comfortable and relaxing.As for the food, the menu is varied and interesting, with plenty for vegetarians as well as carnivores, and there is a good range of desserts too. What's more, the vegetables were all fresh, with a good variety. That makes a change from a token portion of one or two overcooked vegetables.The biggest surprise of all, was the bill. How they can possibly produce such good food at these prices, I do not know.It is a hidden gem,just not off the beaen path - that's all.

Really enjoyed our visit here. Kevin the publican is super nice. He is very friendly, warm and very, very welcoming. The other staff knew what they were doing and while we did have to wait a little while for the meals, we were kept in the "loop" with accurate information. Ordering Beer Battered Cod was a fairly tame choice but, was probably the best I've ever had. Sampling my companions plates, was only to experience more delights. Good range of drinks available and the other customers friendly too. Well worth diverting off the A303 to visit. Hope to get back there some time. Thank you Kevin, Emily and all the others.

Coped well with a number of people for Sunday dinner. Excellent value. We were all offered the smaller roast, but all declined. Loads of meat and veg, and we were wrong as there was some left over. Up to 3 meats for 10.95 excellent and even allowed my little boy a taster so he could pick his favourite pudding. (Lemon meringue won). Staff were nice and friendly and no rush to get us out at the end.

This was a pre-booked birthday meal for 18 of us , we were asked to pre order our meals . On arrival we were greeted by Kevin (the owner) who helped us get a disabled member of our party in. The table was all ready for us including 2 high chairs for the babies . The food was swiftly served, it was hot , fresh and beautifully served . We were all served together so no waiting for others to get their food , we could all eat together , they even served one meal as a take away as one of our party was fasting. Nothing was too much trouble , they even gave the birthday girl a card . Well worth a visit for anyone local or visiting the area

This is the second I have eaten here and the Sunday roast is excellent, well cooked choice of meat, beef, pork, turkey and chicken. Beautifully cooked vegetables and roast potatoes. Excellent friendly service. Tip if you haven’t got a huge appetite op for the small portion even that is plenty of meat and vegetables. Choice of deserts is fantastic as well. Highly recommend

Great with young kids as a very relaxed environment. Staff very friendly. Had the pork medallions and lemon meringue pie - both vsimple, yet very tasty. Children very happy with the kids menu. Street parking outside.

We booked a table at this warm and inviting restaurant/pub, we had visited previously and the food was again of the highest quality and we were well looked after we sat by the table of six by the log fire and all 4 of us really enjoyed the food on offer. Excellent steak & Guinness pies and beef,stilton and port pie was the choice of the day. Lovely plentiful vegetables with lashings of tasty gravy. Well recommended for excellent food and service

It is difficult theses days to find a straight forward, no nonsense pub. No fancy menus just good food. A warm and welcoming atmosphere, with prices reasonable. This pub and its landlord is an asset to Castle Cary.

This is one of my favourite places to eat, the food is delicious, served in large portions, in particular the roast dinner and the toblerone cheesecake, and the service is excellent.

The B.B. we were staying in recommended this pub. As soon as we walked into this pub we were greeted by a very happy & friendly landlord, it was a lovely clean pub, they had a great menu, prices were very reasonable, we did not have to wait long for our food, it was so nice, cooked beautifully, all the time the lovely landlord made sure we were ok, a wonderful experience, highly recommend this place.

Friendly landlord and staff. I had the haddock and mozzarella fish cakes with chunky chips. Hubby had the scampi. We shared a toblerone cheesecake which was delicious. Thatchers ciders on tap. Will return and recommend.

Food was great, but the best thing was the service. We arrived for a late lunch with our toddler who ran around the pub very excited about the cats and the coasters. The staff were really relaxed and we were able to enjoy ourselves and not feel like a an inconvenience. Thank you!

It was my daughters birthday and me and my fiancee thought we would treat her to an excellent meal at The Bay Tree and we weren't disappointed. The steak and Guinness pie was the order of the day for the three of us and as before beautiful. All three of us tucked in to their delicious deserts and a bottle of prosecco to wash it down absolutely scrummy

We had a wonderful time at The Bay Tree on a warm Saturday afternoon in May. The restaurant opened by special arrangement for a large group of adults and children of all ages (as part of a touring band “On The Raggedy Edge”). We pre-arranged the menu choices, which ranged from starters of garlic mushrooms, tomato and basil soup, cheesy garlic bread, and fish cakes - all very good. The mains also covered a wide variety of steak, pie, fish, chicken and vegetarian options - all superb and delicious! The chunky chips were a particular favourite and the kids meals were also much appreciated. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. Thank you to The Bay Tree - you exceeded our expectations!

Having read the reviews submitted for meals served here, we decided to have the Fish and Chips. We were disappointed despite it being well presented. The fish appeared to be a typical frozen fillet. Chips were well cooked and there was a choice of mushy/garden peas. Service was very good and very friendly.

took my dad out to Haynes motor museum for his bday and went here after to finish off out lovely day. we were a group of 9 adults 2 toddlers and a baby, so a roudy bunch to say the least. the food, staff, atmosphere were most welcoming and not one of us went away hungry! can honestly recommend the jacket potatoes, steak and pies!! really really good value for money and a lovely place. if we lived closer would be freqency visitors!! only downside is parking, there is a small car park at the back and a few street parking spaces so on a busy day I'm not sure where you would park.

Only live a short distance a way but never tried this restaurant. Food was great, service was great and setting superb. Really enjoyed our time here and a real bonus the prices were reasonable. The service was both friendly and swift, nothing was to much trouble and all 5 of us were impressed.

Just love this place, have been coming here for 3 years, the food is excellent home cooked meals. The atmosphere is very friendly as are all the staff. Really can’t recommend this pub enough.
