The service was excellent, ambience too. We enjoyed our Sunday lunch although thought the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were very dry, obviously cooked much earlier and kept warm, which is not ideal when the meals are expensive, so disappointing and would rethink before returning. Extra gravy had to be requested which was brought to the table on request.

Been here a number of times whilst working locally and its pretty good. Nice ambience. Informal but classy. Food good though perhaps not quite as good as they think it is at times-- had a Sunday Lunch here and it was genuinely abysmal. Breads before meal are great. Standouts for me across a number of visits have been the belly pork and the beef daube--both outstanding. Seafood platter served on a slate is also fantastic. Wine list adequate and solid but not standout-ish. I am told the young waiting staff here are notoriously badly paid and if true its a credit to the waiters and waitresses here because on almost all visits that was the stand out observation-- friendly, unfussy, informal but efficient service. It's lovely here in summer as they have a nice beer garden out back. Can get busy so book.

We chose items from their market menu. Before our starter arrived we were served with their lovely crafted breads, blended butter and olive oil spread. The three courses from our menu were just enough for us. As the designated driver I had one glass of a remarkable Italian red wine, Cabaletta Rosso delle Venezie Tenuto Fiorebelli (so deliciously pleasant was this wine, it is on my shopping list for Xmas pressies). My wife has booked her gym fiends to The Bay Horse for their annual Xmas lunch, myself and my wife will re-visit this New Years Eve.

Birthday meal for my mother in law, fantastic food, atmosphere & service in this fantastic country pub. Will certainly be back again

Overpriced for mediocre quality food and service. Won’t be returning. First they placed us in a dingy corner, 2nd mediocre quality food. 3rd overpriced for nothing special

Loved this restaurant so much when my daughter took me and a friend who were visiting the area, that we went back the following evening! The atmosphere inside is cosy and the decor warm and inviting with a roaring fire in the bar area. I live in Scotland and we simply don’t have traditional old coaching inns like this. The service was great - and the staff were very friendly but it was the food that really stood out. The chef deserves a Michelin star for the food he produces. From the artisan breads and home made butter to the incredible but not overwhelming choices on two menus - an a’ la carte and a market place with less choice and a set price for two or three courses. The latter menu is exceptional value for the quality of food served. Would highly recommend this if you are visiting Teeside or the surrounding area and I will definitely be returning.

Tasting menu, 12 courses of amazing flavours and visual experiences. Service was great and the whole night, over 2 hours worth, was fantastic. Well worth the cost. Lovely open fire and black sheep beer on tap

Fantastic food , the risotto and mussels for starters and we both had the beef daube for mains. I can’t fault anything about the food .

Wonderful friendly service and the food was so delicious. From beginning to end, the greeting warm warm, the staff were knowledgeable and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The mussels were served piping hot and tasty, followed by the seafood pancake which was absolutely delicious. My husband had the prawn ravioli followed by the belly pork which was cooked to perfection. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening filled with tasty food. I even got a carry out for dessert as we were both so full - but nothing was too much effort for these lovely people.

This is a great pub, run by nice people who care for their customers, serving great, great food. I can’t usually abide rice pudding but the one here is for the gods. Go. You will not regret it.

We definitely recommend this place. The place is amazing and the food is delicious. To top it all was the attentive and friendly staff. The atmosphere was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. We were staying at the nearby hotel and next time we are in this area we will definitely be heading back for another awesome experience. Thank you for giving us such an amazing experience

6 of us for dinner. Every starter, every main course truly delicious. High class cooking in a beautiful country pub environment. We had a bottle of Riesling / Gerwurtz and a bottle of Californian Cab Sav. Both wines were superb. If you like quality, don’t hesitate to book a table. Well done to all the staff here - truly a great experience.

I think I’ve just had possibly the best meal out, ever! My wife and I have experienced fine dining before but this meal, please excuse the catch phrase, was on another level! A lovely location, pleasant front of house staff who were courteous and knowledgable. My Son and his wife took my wife and I to the Bay Horse to celebrate my 70th. All I can say is “wow” what a gift! A big thank you to Marcus and his team, and to my Son and his wife for giving us a most memorable evening.

We ate here in Aug as a family of 9. From the moment we arrived all the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and professional. We ate upstairs in one of the side rooms which was perfect as we had two elderly parents. I can’t fault the whole experience. The staff were polite and thoughtful and the food was great value. We’ll done Bay Horse, we’ll definitely be back.

Decided to try the bay horse for lunch whilst on holiday in the area. The food was superb with plenty of vegetarian options, the fixed lunch menu was great value for the meat eaters in the group. As well as the brilliant food, it was great to have such attentive service from the waiter .

This was our first visit to The Bay Horse, we booked it to celebrate our wedding anniversary after seeing the review on Trip advisor, we had a warm welcome from cheerful staff, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable with quiet background music.The service was excellent with staff being attentive and friendly, the food was excellent every course was very well presented and portions were ample, I had the dessert tasting menu which was fantastic. The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. Staff provided good service and were professional yet friendly. Good choice on the menu; the sticky beef was fantastic! The resaurant was quite busy, but still had a relaxing atmosphere.The food is not cheap, but we knew this before we booked. It's well worth it for a special occasion.

I have heard good reviews so went with high expectations and left extremely impressed. A really good menu with a fixed price menu that I don't think can be matched locally for quality and value for money.Service was friendly from entering to leaving. the food was stunning - way beyond bar meal/pub food - presentation and taste were outstanding and I can't really think of any where local that gives this place a run for it's money. Best meal I have had in a long time.Definitely going back

Our first time here and it won’t be the last. Friendly staff, great service - time between courses was perfect. Food was outstanding - scallops, stone bass and white chocolate mousse for me and pea soup with duck breast and fillet steak for my husband. Highly recommended

After originally being booked into the Raby Hunt for our tenth wedding anniversary we were disappointed last minute as they had to cancel. After a bit of googling of the area and some quick scans through reviews, we managed to book a table at the Bay Horse.Despite our disappointment at changes to original plans, we were definitely not disappointed to have ended up here!!! The welcome in the well managed front bar was warm and efficient, the food throughout the meal was to an extremely high standard and the staff (although some clearly very new) were alert, attentive and keen to please.Presentation = excellent. Flavours = excellentCombinations = excellentAmbience = excellentThe only slight gripe is needing to order a few additional sides to make the meal substantial, despite working our way through 3 courses.Without doubt though, the BEST 'pub' meal I've had in a long, long time!

I've agonised about this review for a few days as I was torn between a 3 or 4 star review. My first venture out since the beginning of Covid, I wanted something special to celebrate my anniversary with my wife.Firstly the good, the food was outstanding, a really good varied choice exquisitely prepared and presented. The portions were on the small size, I wasn't expecting full plates, but could've done with a tiny bit more.The service in general was really good, the waiting staff couldn't be faulted.Unfortunately, the attitude from the manager was really upsetting. We had a problem with a desert and complained to the waiting staff who said they would get the manager over. After waiting for the best part of 10 minutes to grace us with his presence, the attitude to resolving the problem was defensive to the point of competitive and extremely rude and disrespectful. It was resolved, but we were left quite shocked at the way we were spoken to.When we arrived there was a rowdy group of people in the garden, while of course, this is a pub as well, I think a decision needs to be made whether you are an aspiring Michelin stared restaurant or a local boozer - the two don't mix when you're charging these prices.

Sunday lunch for birthday ,as expected very busy but sat at table on time.Menu promises a bread selection which never arrived.My order of pork was a cube of meat with a soggy outer layer of fat described on the menu as crackling.In fairness my wife beef was very good. Not wanting a sweet i ordered the cheese board . It consisted of a sliver of unidentifiable cheese so thin it was transparent and a small wedge of dry blue cheese ,no butter. I will definitely never come back.

Visited the Bay Horse for Dinner on a Friday evening in July during Covid restrictions. Theses were well maintained at all times. Starters were 2 Smoked Haddock, apple and flat-leaf parsley souffle with Aged Gruyere Cheese Cream, Smoked Salmon Parfait with smoked salmon Roulade toasted brioche and beetroot and sauce gribiche, Roasted King Scallops with curried pear dressing, creme fraiche, curried granola, salted crispy pork skin, cucumber salad and cucumber ketchup.Mains were Roasted rump of lamb with spiced Moroccan potato pave, rolled salted lamb belly, summer squash, apple and mint jelly, sour cream and lamb crumb. Slow cooked sticky beef, roasted garlic heritage carrot, courgette and bacon puree, roasted courgette and chive ribbons, beef medallions and pomme dauphine. Duck Confit, English pea and bacon cassoulet, foie gras, warm pressed duck terrine, wild mushrooms, white truffle and parsley cream. Pan roasted stone bass, squid risotto, tendersten broccoli, broccoli and basil puree, squid and parsley cream and shellfish croquettes. 4 excellent desserts were enjoyed but there is not enough space here to include the full details!! Never have I taken so long to read a menu - but it was well worth the effort. All dishes were declared excellent. Two bottles of wine - a lovely French Country Viognier and a Cote du Rhone from Brunel de la Gardine. Both very good and good value for money. Excellent evening, fabulous food, very good wine, lovely building and first-class service.

From the minute we arrived it was excellent.Greeting and serving staff were spot on, a slightly old charm style to the place, but that is not in any way detrimental, it was superb.Good choice on the menus, food quality was top notch.How lucky the people that live round here to have this place nearby.

Brilliant service, I have worked myself in the service industry and so I know what I’m looking for in a good server. Served by three people on the evening. One I was a little disappointed with appeared to linger around but more over was pleasant just needs more training in their etiquette with customer relations. The other two were pretty good. Will be even better when working as a unit. Some small advice to the one needing more training gage the customer and surroundings. Food was fabulous loved it !

Never disappointed, food fabulous, welcoming and friendly. My wife and I, had the full three courses and a wonderful cheese board. We will be back.

We visited to celebrate my wife’s birthday having been let down by another venue who cancelled our booking! On arrival met by friendly staff who took our track and trace details and showed us to our table. We were seated upstairs. The complimentary breads were absolutely delicious. I had the Fillet Steak cooked rare and it was absolutely splendid, exactly as I like it with the peppercorn sauce. My wife had the Monkfish which she said was delicious. Our friends had the sticky beef and the sweet potato Wellington and again they loved it. The sharing pudding was fantastic and I particularly enjoyed the rice pudding, just delicious. This was my second visit, it did not disappoint, staff were fantastic, food superb and venue really nice. I would recommend a visit.

Beautiful food and very well executed. The beef was amazing, I will be thinking about that for some time. The outside seating area was lush, we had such great lunch. The staff were also brilliant!

Whilst the service was very good, I took my parents for their 61st wedding anniversary. After 90plus years each and having experienced the finest of dining they know their food. I ordered butter poached Chicken with pork loin and five rice risotto having not eaten since breakfast I didn't realise that although the presentation could be an exhibit in the Tate Modern, the five rice risootto means one grain of each. The explosion of sauces offered meant one pea sized dot of an indiscriminate tasting sauce accompanied by o e tasteless mouthful of a very nicely shaped bite sized chicken and pork with a very well done potato croquette. The black pudding was worse than Lidl , since I normally buy my meat from Peats butcher's or MC Farlanes or the very good local farm shops around the area., 'All fur coat and no knick The Yorebridge Hotel in or Bainbridge took them there today for lunch. Fabulous as they were so disappointed with The Bay Horse. as a friend referred to The Bay Horse. Very superficial. Far better places to eat in North Yorkshire such as The Blue Lion in East Witton (perfect) Very sadly in their nineties their 61st wedding anniversary was ruined by a very expensive, what can only be described as a 'piss take' of a meal

Amazing food, beautifully presented, excellent unhurried service, imaginative and varied menu, good selection of wine. Thoroughly enjoyable evening in delightful surroundings.

I was very impressed they had a vegan menu. It may have been limited, but offered something different to the usual chickpea curry. I opted for the carrot veloute, followed by the sweet potato wellington. Both were delicious & beautifully presented. The bread was equally delicious, I think it was date & sultana and I was given oil & balsamic, instead of butter, without having to ask. Only negative was they had no plant milk for coffee which seemed a bit at odds with having a vegan menu. I had hoped to make a second visit to try the other vegan option but ran out of time. I would highly recommend this restaurant & will definitely go back should I be in the vicinity again.

Great food and great service at The Bay Horse in Middridge. The food Sunday lunch was fantastic and the staff were excellent, well worth a visit. We popped in after visiting Locomotion in Shildon.

This is more an upmarket restaurant than a pub. The food has pretensions which it mostly fulfils. The breads at the beginning are absolutely delicious and more-ish.We skipped the starters but all the mains were well executed. Only some of the ingredients were not the same as on the menu. The sides were all good as well.Desserts were also inventive - even the good old the sticky toffee pudding was present but with some twists.All in all recommended, my only gripe are the prices, they are steep even for this quality. The young staff deliver a good service, they are friendly and professional.

We visited when covid restrictions only allowed us to sit outside. We were seated under cover with a heater above the table which was lovely and warm. Fantastic food and great service. The only downside was we were waiting a long time in between courses even though there was only one other couple eating. On a whole a great place and can't wait to come back!

This is fine dining. Bread portions & tasty creamy butter to start - yummy! Small looking, but filling portions for carnivores & vegetarians. All beautifully presented & so tasty.

Another fantastic meal late afternoon on a Sunday. The starters and main courses were delicious and outstanding presentation. Covid safe and secure and the staff are friendly and efficient. Will be back very soon.Only issue was 2 very young children running around dining area which I would have liked manager to have a word with the family as of children are in a restaurant it’s not relaxing.Thank you fir a lovely meal again

Fantastic Sunday roast with the family at The Bay Horse, the starters, mains and desserts were all brilliant. Great setting and nice garden area. Will rerun and would recommend.

Booked for noon. Arrived 10 minutes early but all was fine. Good menu with extensive wine list. My wife had a very nice glass of Pinot Grigio and I had a pint of John Smiths as was nominated driver.Food was excellent quality - I had a lovely smoked haddock soufflé followed by a nice belly pork with black pudding (which was great - well done Doreen). My wife stuck to the fixed 2 course menu consisting of a seafood chowder and pork loîn wrapped in parmos ham. Both were described as very good. Must mention the small bread loaves serves before the food arrived which were outstanding.Lovely friendly staff, although was informed that a 10% tipping surcharge was added to the bill. I know this helps provide tips for ALL staff, but prefer NOT to be told what I should tip.

We had a brilliant night at The Bay Horse. We went for drinks first and although the weather wasn't the best the garden area at the back is a little oasis and perfect to relax and have a drink. We ate later in the evening and the food was amazing!!! I can't begin to explain the quality of the food.....truly beautiful. We were served by two young lads, one for drinks and the other at the table for our food and the service was excellent.....so friendly and a pleasure to speak with. Thank you to Marcus and his team for a brilliant night and we look forward to coming back again soon.

Third visit , really nice food, upmarket surrounds but sadly let down by the service Of totally inexperienced young staff. Constant reminders for drinks orders and having to ask twice for most incidentals including salt and pepper when half your dinner has been consumed ! Please, please never remind your customers of the 10% gratuity on the bill. Then cover by explaining that it’s optional ! Pay a decent wage and this would cease to be an issue for the staff! Sadly I wouldn’t return which is a shame because the cuisine doesn’t deserve this review.

Absolutely amazing all round experience with such lovely attentive service, really accommodating outdoor area with heating and shelter from the rain - we completely forgot it was pouring down. The food was just perfect from start to finish, so flavourful and presented beautifully. Also an amazing choice of wine with very good value for some more special choices as well and lots of availability to pick from for glasses/carafes. Thank you so much for a lovely dinner!

The emperors new clothes (look it up), although the food we were served was very tasty, the portions were so small we immediately asked for bowls of chips to,bulk it up. The bill for five of us for lunch was £200 +

We treated ourselves to lunch out to celebrate our son’s birthday (he was celebrating separately in London!). Also the first time we’ve been out since October - though we’ve had a few lovely date night meals from here! Fabulous food and wine - excellent, friendly service and it didn’t rain, though it wasn’t exactly warm! The garden is very attractive - lots of birdsong to accompany our meal - and good use has been made of the space - the little huts with heaters looked most appealing! Not a cheap date but well worth it - thank you!

Absolutely delicious food! Incredible flavours, wonderfully prepared, fantastic quality and perfect portions. The children’s menu is lovely too, and our toddler had a great time! Very family friendly whilst still keeping a special occasion atmosphere. It wasn’t exactly the weather for outdoor dining today but the fact that every table has enormous umbrellas over means that you don’t need to worry about the rain, and some tables have heaters too (although it’s such a popular restaurant that to get these I imagine you’d need to book well in advance!). The outdoor set up is brilliant, the staff are lovely and the food is just perfect.

Wow! Perfect birthday outing! Couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate my birthday! Food was beyond exceptional and the staff were all professional and provided a first class service.

This was our first meal out as a family following lock down and we could not have asked for a better experience. The food was delicious as always and the staff were so warm and friendly. The garden area has been extremely well done for the current situation and it was a nice touch to have a drink after our meal in the additional beer garden area. Will look forward to our next visit.

This was our first trip back after lockdown and the makeover the garden has had is awesome. We were lucky enough to have one of the huts which was lovely with the added heater in the chilly evening. Fabulous service and top notch food as always. We will definitely be returning!!

Our first family trip back after lockdown. As always the staff and food were amazing. Even more impressive considering it’s the first week back open. The outdoor area looks fantastic but you need to bring coats as it can get cold. We were lucky to get a table with a heater but they are not everywhere.A fantastic family afternoon and we will be going back very soon.

Thought we would treat our parents for their golden wedding anniversary to a nice meal and don’t get me wrong the food was delicious but there just wasn’t much of it for the overpriced meals we had. Firstly we were sat in a cold shady spot and asked if we could move to another table in the sun and was told no because our table is allocated only to us. So we asked to sit in the summerhouse with the heater and again was told no because our table was allocated only to us (even thought there was no one sitting at any of the other tables). So we ordered quickly (as it was so cold) and the food came and it looked spectacular and tasted lovely but just teeny weeny portions, not even enough for a child. Finally to top it off an optional gratuity of an extra 10% was automatically added to the bill without even being given the option! Needless to say we won’t be going back.

Staff are friendly. The food is nice and fore price you would expect more. The free bread was a nice gesture. For starters: A fish pancake that was swimming in a thick cheese sauce, that tasted better than it looked. The black pudding was tasty, but not enough of it. And the mains. The monkfish: A few scraps of fish on a plate. The presentation was immaculate, but looked more like a starter. And for £25, I would expect more. The steaks were tasty and cooked to perfection, but let down on the price. There was more steak in a McDonald's Big Mac. The steaks looked more like starters with a £35 price tag. The premises are clean and tidy. Good facilities and nice staff. For the price, and amount of food, I have to score this a one.

We had a very enjoyable lunch at The Bay Horse, it was a great choice for our first UK post lockdown meal out. This meant dining outside (prior to 17th May) but they have made a sensational job of making this work, with a gorgeous outdoor extension & a couple of cute huts, in addition to a handful of garden tables. The interior is also beautifully done, in a cosy, country chic style. Staff were extremely welcoming & service was timely. The menu is upscale, creative & artily presented, & our dishes were tasty.Overall, a terrific experience.

My partner and I had a valentines special takeaway £75 We both had the beef Wellington Several hours afterwards we began to feel unwell we were up till the early hours of the next day being violently sick. We spent the following day in bed with severe stomach cramps. We rang the restaurant on the Monday to complain. They apologised and advised they would contact Darlington environmental health. That’s the last we heard from the restaurant so I rang environmental health five days later who informed me that the restaurant should’ve advised we provide stool samples to our GP. By then it was too late to determine the cause. I would add the restaurant made no offer of a refund or even a credit on future takeaways.

Sat in the fabulous new outside seating area for dinner last night. Lovely and warm with the new heaters! Fantastic food and service again. Well done to the team 👏

Well booked The Bay Horse for our 30 wedding anniversary. Beautiful decor staff very attentive busy for a Tuesday lunchtime. Food was superb loved the seafood pancake, really good fillet steak. My wife had the white crab meat and seafood platter. All excellent could not fault a thing. On a final note this place must have a very clever and good chef. Will see you again after another lockdown. Stay safe guys and thank you for today. 10/10.

Back we went for the umpteenth time and the pub just gets better and betterWe were well looked after by Anthony Lisa and their colleagues and the food was absolutely superb albeit somewhat expensiveThe seafood pancakes are incredible and all the meats are first classThere is a great selection of cheese and deserts and a tremendous wine listWe sat out in the back in the new area which has heaters installed to keep you snug as a bug in a rugI very much look forward to the next time that we return

To be honest I'm not a fan of going for a meal whilst this face covering palaver is on, but my husband wanted a treat for us, we had a lovely table beside the fire, sorry for the owners because there's no atmosphere with people walking about in masks, I no this can't be avoided, however, I ordered for starter seafood pancake, and monkfish for mains with a side of chips cooked in dripping, my pancake was nothing to write home about, my main was no better, monkfish was just warm and the chips were limp and dry, my husbands meal was nice he said, sadly I won't be returning! I must say the last time we visited the food was lush.

Yes it was quite windy outside, but the welcome was warm, the Covid precautions good and the food was possibly the finest from an a la carte menu that I've had.The 2 veggies in the quad were very well catered for and the carnivores delighted.I had a crab starter, monkfish main, with added sides, and an assiette of assorted puds.I'm nit going into the fine detail of each, just go and try this fine dining yourself.

Having found ourselves with a day off, where else to go for incredible food. You simply cannot fault the place. The surroundings, the staff, the food - all simply perfection. Cannot wait to return.

Very disappointed with Sunday dinner as previous meals have been lovely. Roast beef quite tough, requested sharper knives to cut it. Limited choice of vegetables, dried up roasties. Sweet menu looked delicious but very small portions, dare I say sixth of a pear!

Four of us dined here last night. Soup starter won the vote of the evening. However I was left very disappointed with my choice of the Lamb it was so salty I couldn’t define the taste. Could have sworn I was eating ham the staff assured me I wasn’t. The lamb was served with carrots. The table side vegetable were CARROTS!!! . Before writing this review I did give the management an opportunity to respond to my issues via e mail. Which they have unfortunately it seems they don’t really care about customer satisfaction. Photo look good but I served something different to what was offered on the menu. Disappointing you expect better from an establishment like this.

Google search, at 11.30am in Durham, and we managed to book a late lunch in this excellent pub restaurant for three hours later. Tables were well spaced for obvious reasons, but the place had a real buzz. Staff were friendly, particularly the busy manager who welcomed us and the waitress who served us. Food not cheap but well worth it for the delicious combinations of flavours on the plate. Impressive cooking; quality ingredients. Starters were enjoyable, but the mains (beef and the monkfish) were superb. We left 90 mins later after an unhurried lunch and started our long drive home, feeling very pleased to have discovered such a fine place. Will definitely be back for dinner with friends on a future trip to the area.

Lovely village pub with decor done to a very high standard. The young girl behind the bar was very polite and welcoming. Beer garden is excellent.

Meal was lovely, visited last Thursday, we had the belly pork , 9 hour cooked braised beef and sticky toffee pudding,could not fault the food,but the staff did not wear masks and each time we were brought food drinks etc , we were very close. I am now hoping that the staff ,remain covid free and regret that I put myself at risk.The staff were lovely, don't understand why they are not wearing Masks etc, for their own protection and clients, other restaurant's such Middleton Lodge, have their staff wearing everything to protect clientsWill return for another fantastic meal,when staff start wearing masks etc

A last minute booking after a disappointing holiday in the Lake District but The Bay Horse didn’t disappoint. The service was good without being intrusive but it was the food that really was the winner. So many different but perfectly complimentary flavours that melted in the mouth. The wine list had some interesting wines some of which came by the glass or half litre. Some people might think the service was slow but we enjoyed the fact that we were left to enjoy each course before building up the anticipation of the next course! A memorable meal and we will definitely be returning!

Have wanted to return for months and so glad that we did. Wow. The food is second to none. It is simply perfection on a plate. I cannot wait to return yet again. You cannot get sick of food like this - just wow!

Food very good and could not fault it in any way. The service however in an establishment charging £25 plus for a main, needs a lot of attention. My wife and I sat for 15 minutes without a drink and had to flag down a server and ask for more. Felt slightly shoved in the corner and left to our own devices, not much interaction with anyone and we didn’t really know who was serving us.

Always loved the bay horse the food is top notch and when it popped up on Facebook they were participating in Eat out help out it was a no brainier! Took the risk on the weather as the only tables were outside in the garden which wasn’t a problem as it was warm but drizzling and the umbrellas were massive and covered the table! Food was very tasty with every mouth full making sure to add a little of everything to compliment the taste. Staff great, service great superb food keep it up Jonathan and Marcus

Yet another wonderful experience at the bay horse. Managed to grab the last free table in their lovely beer garden to enjoy drinks on arrival and browse the menu. We moved through to the restaurant to be seated to freshly baked bread and whipped butter. Tables were all well spaced and staff were conscious to keep their distance when serving you. There are also also hand sanitizers throughout the building. Food was exceptional as always, scallops to start and the monkfish main courses were the stars of the show. Finished the meal off with the best espresso martini I have ever had! We had the added bonus of having £20 off the bill due to eating on a Monday in accordance with the current government scheme. Staff are very friendly and attentive. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food.

Yes; back again to this wonderful restaurant. Great to see Marcus and Johnny and to sit in the garden and enjoy an afternoon of lunch in wonderful weather. Excellent service from Daisy and Amelia and a top afternoon was had by all. The crab, monkfish and steaks were superb as was the choice of desserts. Nice to get £10 a head back from Richi!

Friendly but very average slow service.Extremely expense for basic good food.Wine very nice when it came.Outdoor setting in garden very nice with good spacing between tables. Waiter sounded like he knew what he was talking about when discussing how steaks would like to be cooked. Sadly the reality did not live up to expectation. Steaks were overdone and brought back to us after we sent them back, advising it was the “outdoor lighting” that made them look well done not medium rare!!!Been looking forward to coming here for a while but this one is now well and truly ticked off my list.

Food - exceptional. The best Sunday lunch I've ever had. The beef is like a beautiful steak in quality. It truly was 'melt in the mouth'. The complementary mini loaves and butter were perfect.Service - I was found a seat despite not having a reservation so that was nice. I didn't have to wait too long, after the waitress took my order at my table, for a perfect meal with a drink. Unfortunately, (and this happened the previous time that I dined there too) nobody returned to me even though my glass had been empty for a long time. The previous time I had gone up to the bar to order another drink and it was clear that the barman didn't expect someone having a meal to do that/have to do that. This time, I decided just to pay the bill, instead of my original intention to order a dessert. I know I'm a relatively fast eater - I was on my own and I don't like to stare at my mobile phone just for something to do - but another waiter for another table would have been able to see that I was at a loose end service-speaking. Unfortunately, the bill added on an 'optional service charge'. I advised the young lady that it's only really optional if you ask me (discretely) on the card machine if I wish to give it. She said that she could remove it if I want. I said yes - please do as the service hadn't quite been worthy of 2 pounds 10 to me as I hadn't been attended to after my meal came. It's not like I was ever given the option of ordering food from the bar and picking it up myself when it's ready so why make a service charge the default? This is the UK, not France. If the price on the menus isn't deemed high enough to cover the service, then I suggest transparency by putting up the prices. I will always leave a tip if the full experience has met expectations. It's just a shame that even a perfect meal can be marred by a fall-off in service and an automatically added supposedly 'optional' service charge.

Best Restaurant in the area! We travel from Newcastle on a regular basis just to eat in this restaurant. Both inside and the outside eating area are beautiful and well presented. The food would not look out of place in a high end stared restaurant. Do not hesitate to book!

Delicious three course Sunday lunch: food beautifully presented and impeccable service. A lovely atmosphere to the pub and restaurant. Beef particularly tasty as well as the chocolate mousse and raspberry dessert. A lovely treat; we can't wait to visit again.

A fantastic Sunday evening spent at the Bay Horse in Hurworth.Pre drinks in the beautiful garden, followed by an excellent meal. I really don’t think there was one dish below a 9/10 served, or on the menu.All done very carefully and thoughtfully with all current hygiene requirements. Top notch (We stayed a few miles away in The Devonport, a hotel owned by the same group - which is also recommend)

A really good Sunday lunch, cauliflower soup and roast pork. We had the Nytimber fizz whichw as glorious. One niggling complaint which it shares with so many, form over function it's called. The aesthetics of the design over practicality. In this case the cutlery. Twice I managed drop a fork full onto my plate. Am I the first? No. On the other hand nice big napkins and plentiful table water. I'll return.

Had an amazing lunch to celebrate my birthday. I enjoyed the parsley risotto and my husband had the crab starter. This was followed by the butter poached chicken which was delicious and my husband had the burger. We both loved the panna cotta dessert. The service was also excellent. Cannot wait to return!

My friends and I had a pleasant lunch. The staff provided excellent service. We chose our lunch from the daily set menu. The pork fillet wrapped in Parma ham with black pudding tasty but a little dry. My pudding with Panna Cotta was disappointing there was very little flavour. The coffee was excellent as were the little chocolates. I will try The Bay Horse once more as I have been given such good recommendations.

Ate here on Friday, for lunch, going back next week to try the tasting menu. The food is amazing and staff can't do enough for you.

Booked a table for a group of 8 friends. The food was absolutely amazing and everyone enjoyed their meals. We were all talking both during the meal and the next day about how nice the food was. Seems expensive when you first see the menu, but worth every penny and the staff were friendly and really helpful too. Wish we lived closer as we'd definitely go back!

Loved the food, mussels as a starter were perfect. Main course included the most perfectly cooked seabass and accompanying vegetables. Service was great , very professional and attentive.

We had always wanted to try this restaurant and having been given a gift voucher for my birthday we booked the Sunday lunch. The roast beef dinner, (with a Yorkshire pudding the size of a football), could not be faulted. However my wife decided on the sea bass, and to be frank it was terrible. There were two small portions of fish which would have made about half of a normal fillet and the accompanying dressing on the plate were distinctly average. The deserts were also pretty ordinary for a place with the reputation people give it.

Super meal. Were staying at a local hotel and came here on a Monday evening - plenty of people dining and I can see why. Food was fabulous, not regular pub fayre at all. Definitely recommend to visit.

On a cold and wet evening we were searching for somewhere to eat and came across the bay horse.The complimentary mini bread loafs were a great start . We both then had the butter poached chicken with a side order of Chantenay carrots and dauphinois potatoes , followed by panna cotta for my husband and I had the carrot cake , all of it was delicious and immaculately presented

Family party for my 70th Birthday. Hired the upstairs room for 13 of us. Excellent service and the food was really good. Sunday lunch was served hot and delicious.

Fabulous lunch of ploughman’s and fisherman’s platters. Super bread and lots of little surprises of chutneys, smoked meats, terrines. Beautifully decorated and great price for the high quality.

I have not been for a while. Went with a couple of friends that wanted an upmarket traditional restaurant. We had the basic lunch menu and it was excellent. We all had the soufflé starter and it was spot on.

This is the place to eat! It has been open for years and continues to impress and go from strength to strength. Whether with eating with loved ones or with work colleagues, then this is the place to go.

A lovely lunch for the three generations of our family. The food was beautiful, the only complaint would be as a true northern lass, I would have like a larger piece of Christmas cake with my cheese board. The service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive and the use of the private room upstairs made for a more relaxing time for our younger family members, and their parents!
