We had a pre Christmas family lunch at Podshavers - 14 of us and across the board it was amazing! The food, service and atmopsher was 5/5 - rarely do our family get together and this was a wonderful way to start Christmas - a real hidden GEM!!

Lovely building, warm welcome and attentive service. Based on personal taste I enjoyed the big log burner that used to be a focus at the back of the room, especially during the winter. Food was very tasty, though it came out luke warm and went cold very quickly the last time I went (December).

We had a lovely Christmas Eve lunch here. The veggie options were delicious and the lamb shoulder was scrumptious and came with many sides. The staff was kind and the restaurant and surrounding area is gorgeous. Can’t wait to come back.

We booked the chefs table for our Christmas get together, only to find out when we arrived that it’s a table in the restaurant and nowhere near the chef. Apart from the false advertising about the chefs table, food was below average. Advice if not too late. Find another venue

I don't understand why this place isn't really busy all the time. We were recommended this place by a friend. The food was fabulous and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wines. I loved the scallops starter and the puddings were also divine. 100% loved this place for dinner.

My French toast was frozen. The front of house staff were on their phone. The staff were all on their phones and were not that rude but just not paying attention.

A Culinary Gem in Taunton - Don't Miss Podshavers! I usually don't do reviews, but after our fantastic Friday night at Podshavers Restaurant, I couldn't help but share this incredible find with everyone. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome by the owner, Jenny, the chef and the service team. The menu at Podshavers is intentionally small, but this is precisely what ensures you get the best experience, whether you're a fish, meat, or vegetarian lover. Each dish is a masterpiece, bursting with flavors, colors, and textures. We all had appetizers and the presentation by the chef was exceptional. Two of us indulged in a perfectly cooked chateaubriand and my husband had the fish – all of which tasted scrumptious. The Cheesecake and Baked Alaska were positively delicious and what truly touched our hearts was the incredible gesture they made when they learned it was my birthday. Jenny and her team went out of their way to create a special dessert just for me, making the evening even more unforgettable. Podshavers Restaurant is a must-visit gem in Taunton! I'm a London gal and used to visiting high end restaurants. This is by far the most excellent establishment for miles. Granted I haven't visited them all but I only visit places that are recommended to me by fellow-foodies so can imagine I've been to most of the best ones. It's a bit off the beaten track but don't let that put you off. Worth sharing a taxi if you all want to drink. This was a treat for my birthday and I refused to go anywhere else.

Excellent all-round dining experience. On the more expensive side but it really is great food. Looking forward to returning for the next special occasion.

This was an exceptional meal for a large group family celebration, catering from ages 2 to 83. We were there to celebrate my parents diamond wedding anniversary and quite honestly this was some of the finest food I’ve eaten. We sat at the chef’s table which suited us well. And coming from London/Surrey borders this is the rarest and finest of restaurant finds. Absolutely delicious. From yellow fin tuna tartare to start, to venison haunch with spiced beetroot and sweet potatoes to sesame and dark chocolate tart with sorbet. Just sublime. Seriously this is one of those places you almost don’t want to tell people about because it is just so lovely, but also we want to reflect the high quality and fabulous service we received at Podshavers. What a lovely, lovely place. The courtyard setting and the main restaurant are both fantastic The welcome warm and friendly. The food really excellent and with some of the dishes, really quite dazzling. We - three of us - went for the 'small plates' session, running from around 1.00 on Saturday. We sampled seven of the different dishes on the menu and finished off with three puddings from the a la carte menu. We were advised that the small plates where reasonably substantial and perhaps not to order too many too quickly. But our excitement at the wonderful menu selection led us to go a bit mad. None of us needed dinner that night! Podshavers is about a 15 minute drive from Taunton. A local taxi firm will take you and pick you up if you want to enjoy a few drinks - the owner will advise you which taxi firm to book. Either way this place is well worth the journey out - it really is very special.

We’ve eaten here several times and had always had a fantastic time. The food is wonderful and the service goes above and beyond. I’m a coeliac and the majority of the menu is (or can be) gluten free options and the staff are very knowledgable about allergens. Highly recommended

What a fabulous place. Loved the setting and ambiance, celebrating belated birthday. Staff were very welcoming, timings of courses spot on, attentive enough without being excessive. Food delicious, tasted every bit as perfect as it looked.

Outstanding!! Everything about this little Somerset Gem was faultless. The decor was subtle but contempory. The staff were all attentative, friendly, calm and very knowledgeable for menu enquiries but also added a personal touch to conversations for individual tables. Including the chefs who also popped out to serve dishes and we're obviously enthusiastic about their creations in food. I have honestly never tried, nor knew existed, some of the breads served. They were incredible by the way. There is no other way to describe the food other than perfect! The scallops for starter and duck breast for main was perfectly cooked and melted on my tongue. It was like angels dancing in my mouth! Cant wait to take my mum back there again. Thank you to all the staff there. You truly are what makes the restaurant something to return back to again and again.

Our first visit to The Barn @ Podshavers and we will definitely make a return visit soon. Stylish decor in the main restaurant, overlooking the delightful courtyard. (Oh, for a sunny day.... ) Staff were welcoming, professional and attentive. The wine list was comprehensive and included a number of local products. We ordered chicken burgers and the catch of the day - all perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Thank you!

Great to discover that the Podshavers reputation is being continued by the new owners. Lovely reception by very attentive and helpful staff. The roast lamb was unbelievably tender, good portions and the roast potatoes were the best I’ve had in a very long time.Prices are very reasonable and The Barn, in my opinion as a foodie, continues to be one of The best places to eat in Taunton. Truly excellent. Perfect food and exceptionally friendly and professional service. Recently fabulously refurbished premises allowing very adaptable accommodation for all weathers and groups. I cannot see how they could have done it any better and it makes a specialoccasion out of any visit. Delightful atmosphere. Well done to you all. Thank you.

The food was exceptional and well worth the challenge of finding this unique restaurant. We received a warm welcome and the added touch of a beautifully presented gift box containing delicious birthday treats was a very appreciated treat. It was therefore unfortunate for us that the arrival of another table spoilt our visit and we left rather than stay to enjoy dessert or the rest of our evening. Because of the layout of the restaurant, we don’t think the staff were aware of the table’s inappropriate conversation or how loud they were being. Perhaps we should have said something at the time its easy to handle these situations in hindsight. But we were so upset we just wanted to leave

We have just been to this lovely restaurant for lunch. We both had a great lunch. Good menu, I had a Grilled Chicken Barn Salad and my partner had the Chicken Burger with tasty fries. The lemon and ginger desert was very tasty. We were served by a very helpful waiter, Jed and met the owners Jenny and Jay who were very helpful and friendly. We had lunch in the courtyard and the weather was perfect. Lots of sun and lots of umbrellas to sit under. The restaurant inside looks immaculate. We are looking forward to our next visit.

I booked this venue for a business meeting after extensive research. It was set in a beautiful location, perfect for a offsite meeting. The room was set out perfectly with everything we needed to have a meeting ( projector and flipchart). They had a gorgeous outdoor area also and the food was absolutely fantastic. We have booked to attend again and can’t fault the service , room or food one bit. Would highly recommend

Last night we went down to The Barn for a date night - we were not disappointed! A beautiful location with a warm welcome. From start to finish it oozed with quality. The food was cooked to perfection (best Scallops I’ve ever had) and an excellent wine list (the House Sav Blanc will not disappoint! Jenny and Jay have worked wonders here from the decor to the menu. You won’t be disappointed!

Wow!! A true hidden gem. Every aspect of service and venue were top quality. Warm welcome, attentive service without being too intrusive. Lovely to see Chef in the restaurant after service talking to diners. The roast beef was fantastic with a great mix of veg and the best gravy.And finally, the toilets! So many establishments let themselves down with poor quality toilets; not The Barn. They even have a water feature in there! I know a bit weird to review the toilets but as I said every aspect of The Barn is top quality. Will definitely be back.
