The Barking Dog Restaurant Belfast in Belfast

Such a special place - my wife and I have so many happy memories over the years of dining at The Barking Dog. Leader of the pack and one of the best in Belfast it has been a firm favourite restaurant of ours for a very long time. Never easy saying goodbye we managed two visits in its final week and as always it delivered on fabulous food complimented by friendly and first class service with lots of positive energy and atmosphere despite that dreaded closure just days away - true professionals to the very end. Thanks to Michael and every member of his talented team over the years for always stepping up to the plate and delivering a service second to none. Special mention is due on that final Friday evening to Lauren, Charlotte, Ciara and Anna as we sat at our favourite window table basking in glorious spring sunshine and reflecting on what has been a memorable and unmissable journey. Thanks for everything - it has been a blast!

Restaurant was at the end of our street due to the rain we decided not to traipse into town & by far was the Best meal of our weekend away , the restaurant had a great lively but relaxed , welcoming atmosphere & brilliant service from our server . A good start when our beer was served with ice cold glasses then the food was perfect! We ( 3 of us ) shared 5 tapas & each one was beautiful & difficult to choose a favourite, we the had the fish pie , the burger & the belly pork , we each said it was amazing & the best we’ve had . Hats off to the chef & the lovely waitress we had a fabulous night. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit

Our favourite place to go when we visit Belfast and yesterday 16th we visited for my partners birthday. We had been given a voucher for Christmas and it was the first chance we had to use it. We had tapas as a starter between us, I had the salt and pepper scampi as a main and my partner had a burger with chips...for dessert my partner had a brownie and the girls kindly put a candle on it for him and sang happy birthday. Anna was our server she was just lovely,very attentive and nothing was a problem to her. We wanted 2 cocktails that weren't on the menu but they were able to whip them up for us. We like to try different places in Belfast but I can honestly say the Barking Dog is the best for quality food and service...eating out is becoming more of a luxury for some people these days so when you do decide to dine you want it to be a great experience....I can honestly say yesterday was one of the nicest meals I have ever had the whole experience was delightful...thank you can't wait to our next visit

The food was ok. Nothing really special and portions a little skimpy. The service was satesfactory but at tmes we we unattended as you would expect and not warramt a 10% automatic surcharge. Plus 1 meal the burger was not edible so basically untouched (1 other in the party had a small piece and agreed). We informed the waiter who was appologetic but when the bill was presented no type of resolition was even given to compensate one of the party paying £19 for chips the quantity of a medium mcdonalds size. Busy enough and good atmosphere + nice surroundings but as regular diners lost any chance of repeat business and that of our large foody social circle.

Went here for Sunday lunch . To avoid any problems I made a reservation on Res-Dine for 3 which is a booking app that might not actually exist. We arrived just after opening time to a bustling, busy restaurant. It took me 15 mins to get in through the front door as I was checking the gravel for dog paw suitability, the outside furniture for paint and A4 page for aggressiveness. All boxes ticked. We were welcomed in . The manager informed me that he had received my cv and achievement breakdown by email and also that my reservation had been confirmed through the non existent Res-Dine. I didn't regret using Res-Dine for 1 millisecond. The manager told us would cancel the booking and treat us as walk-in guests. This type of decision making thrills me as much as local supply chains. Food was fantastic.

Three family couples visited on the third Thursday in March In summary everything was excellent The mixture and range of tapas as starters were extremely tasteful and varied We had a variety of main courses I selected the ‘Fish Special’. It was cod and it was garnished and seasoned exceptionally. It was excellent I didn’t have a dessert but all the others did — everyone complemented their desserts We had wine, beers, cocktails and coffees And every was served without fuss and true professionalism For all the food and drink in a lovely setting it worked out at £55 per head. Expensive?? NO not for the dining experience we received Highly recommended

I came here for a Pre-Valentines dinner with my bf. We got a warm welcome by the manager, then we got looked after by a guy(couldn't get his name) afterwards, he gave us the warmest experience ever! We could tell that it was busy because every table was taken in our eye view, but the waiter was attentive and helpful. He recommended some tapas to start which were all really nice 😁🤌🏽 Our mains were amazing too, I went for Burger (Medium well) and my partner went for a Butchers choice(pink). Afterwards we got offered the dessert special (which was the last one), but we choose the liquid dessert instead... We can't remember the name of cocktail, but it was really nice as well! Overall it was just a nice pleasent experience, definitely Will be back!

First impressions very cosy, nice table at window. Starter of scampi although small was very well cooked and tasted well. Roast beef was a bit underwhelming. Excellent veg selection. Burger was more like a soft paste. Waiter asked how our meal was, he was told it was okay and unfortunately he seemed to take offence. This is when service went way down hill. No offer of desert, think he told neighbouring diners that only one portion of cheese cake remained and offered liquid alternatives.

Good night out. Food was very good and service was quick and efficient. Would recommend this place. Atmosphere was good.

I went here 10 years ago then again in the new year, same story. Starters good, mains, not so much. The server asked me "steaked cooked to perfection, sir?" I shoed him away but it most definitely was not, a pale grey exterior with tiny lines of char that contributed little to the taste. Sauce was terrible, sour wine jus no stock, no montrer au beurre, nada, would be as well as putting a glass of wine in the microwave and slinging it round it. Also couldn't knock up a pepper sauce for my son. Chunky chips were raw in the middle, Pish.

Super food and atmosphere in this locals restaurant near the University and Botanic Gardens. Great service, reasonable prices and a very buzzy feel make this a must visit place. The views outside are a bonus at night with the floodlit church opposite. Plenty local buses to town are a bonus.

Crispy pork bites were delightful however they were served in the smallest thimble of a bowl which made for awkward eating. Standard turkey and ham fair was fine and as you would expect for this time of year. Crème brûlée was good and exceptionally large. Service was good, however upstairs in the restaurant was extremely cold which made the experience uncomfortable. All very reasonable at £36 for 3 courses. Hopefully they put in a space heater for upstairs.

I had high hopes for this restaurant but I think I got unlucky with my meal. When the waiter came to ask if everything was ok I explained my issues and it was clear it didn’t matter. They paid lip service to receiving feedback. I will definitely not return. My friends were content with their meals although we all found it a little expensive.

My friend is Vegan and found it so easy to order food re their vegetarian menu.. Adam was amazing help throughout suggesting different dishes..we had stunningggggggg salad from starter menu along with a couple very tasty tapas.. Mains my friend had Seabass and I had chicken gnocchi dish!! Both totay outstanding! Reisling wine and bloody Mary cocktails were just fabulous! I was outside at one point and really lovely waitress came out to turn heat on so I was warm enough!!! Talk about taking the extra step.. Absolutely brilliant! To finish it off we had amazing deserts and chatted with staff before we left... Also amazinggggg value for money... We will most definitely be back and will recommend highly.

Everytime we go here it is the same ... bloody fabulous! During lockdown we had the dine at home several times the worst problem is picking the menu! The shin burger ✅✅✅✅We then had an evening when we shared a selection of tapas. The instructions are simple and the result is —Fabulous!!! El personal era amable y conversador y había un ambiente agradable. Lo único que no me gustó es que cuando pagamos no pudimos agregar nuestra propia propina, le pedía que pagara un 15% más según el nivel de servicio que recibió. Una propina del 15% se clasificó como promedio, lo cual es injusto, el camarero era encantador pero sugirió que un gran servicio debería justificar una propina del 30%. Some of the best food in Belfast. This is one of my go to places to take people when we’ve friends visiting. Good quality food. The shin beef burger is the best burger you will get. Service is always excellent.

Great restaurant and v welcoming team. We hadn’t booked but they seated us outside under patio heater. The fish of the day was fantastic and veggie gnocchi excellent. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to return visit.

Lovely Sunday roast beef lunch. I enjoyed the vegetables but some of my table felt they were too hard! Needed to ask for extra gravy and this was promptly delivered. Staff very friendly and took the time to have a chat.

Tuve uno de los especiales, Short Rib Roast, fue absolutamente hermoso, el personal fue encantador, nada era demasiado, los platos se despejaron rápidamente y el magnífico Prosecco fluía muy bien. Y cuando devolví mi Bloody Mary, ya que estaba demasiado picante, ¡fue directo a conseguirme uno nuevo! Tuvimos una selección de tapas, algunos cócteles y cafés para finalizar la visita. Todo estaba delicioso y el ambiente era encantador. ¡Dos horas o la felicidad de olvidar lo que está sucediendo en el mundo! ¡Gracias Bethany! !

Fui aquí con 3 amigos anoche, nos sentamos arriba y pasamos una noche fabulosa. Nuestra camarera fue excelente, compartimos tapas para comenzar, teníamos pescado, pastel de pescado y hamburguesas como plato principal seguido de pudines y cócteles. La comida era excelente, el servicio era fabuloso, no había presión para la mesa a pesar de que llegamos para 6. 30 y salieron alrededor de 10. 30. Altamente recomendado ?

Visité aquí a finales de julio con algunos amigos para celebrar un cumpleaños. Fue mi primera experiencia en Barking Dog y tengo que decir que fue absolutamente delicioso. Opté por la opción de tapas con 3 mini platos y una guarnición para 13, ¡una ganga absoluta! ¡Los cócteles fueron increíbles y el servicio al cliente fue impecable! Hay un ambiente encantador sobre el lugar y definitivamente regresaré!

He sido un visitante habitual de Belfast y este fin de semana fue mi primer viaje de regreso desde que comenzó el encierro. La visita de ayer al Salty Dog en Bangor fue bastante miserable (ver mi reseña del 15 de agosto). Así que gracias a Dios por The Barking Dog, que fue absolutamente excelente como de costumbre hoy y muestra claramente que incluso con los requisitos de seguridad de Covid, todavía es posible brindar un servicio sobresaliente, amigable y acogedor, ofrecer comida excepcional y mantener una atmósfera de diversión y disfrute. ¡Me quito el sombrero y gracias al equipo de Barking Dog que hizo un trabajo fantástico! Cenamos aquí hace un par de semanas un miércoles. Servicio realmente agradable, y algunos cócteles notablemente excelentes. La comida estuvo estupenda. Mi compañero consiguió la hamburguesa, que estuvo a la altura de las expectativas. Tuve el ravioli de ternera estofado, que era increíble. Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera que busque una buena cena en Belfast, incluso si no está en el centro de la ciudad propiamente dicho, es una caminata corta hasta el agradable Queen's Quarter. ¡Vale la pena!

Came here twice over the August bank holiday weekend. Both times were excellent. Friendly staff, gorgeous food. Will be back on our next visit to Belfast. The shin burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had.

Visitamos este restaurante dos veces en nuestro corto viaje a NI. Habíamos estado una vez antes hace un par de años y realmente lo habíamos disfrutado. No defraudó. Hay una gran selección de tapas, muchas de ellas elaboradas con productos locales frescos. En nuestra primera visita, teníamos cinco de cada uno como "principal", que en realidad era más de lo que necesitábamos. En nuestro segundo compartimos tres como entrante (recomiendo encarecidamente la panceta de cerdo, langostinos portavogie y ternera) y luego un plato principal. Tuve el pastel de pescado, que estaba lleno de mariscos y cubierto con un rico puré de queso y mi esposa tenía lenguado de limón perfectamente cocinado servido con almejas, mejillones y gambas. Compartimos la mejor tarta tatin que hemos tenido. Un maitre de muy amable y un personal eficiente se sumaron a la experiencia. ¡Muy recomendado!

This restaurant was recommended to us and it was a good choice. It was busy and we hadn't booked but as we were quite late in arriving the staff managed to fit the two of us in. Clearly very popular with the locals. The menu choices were good and our food was delicious. We didn't try the cocktails but they definitely were serving a wide range of them and they all looked good.

Was recommended by a friend to dine here next time I was up in the big smoke, great recommendation, called in for lunch, was greeted at the door and quickly seated, place was nice and warm, loved the decor, staff were very attentive but most importantly the food was amazing, compliments to the Chef, loved the beef shin burger, best iv ever had, wife had the fish of the day, seabass, she loved it, had the kids with me, one had sausages the other had sirloin steak, I cut it up for her and could feel it was so tender, had to steal a bit and it was delicious. Visited this restaurant with some friends after a meeting Saturday 8th February, food was quite good portion size was small ,the pricing was very high more akin to Paris London or New York ,this is Belfast not Beverly Hills I had a chicken salad at £9.50 this was way overpriced,I also had their draft lager at £6.20 a pint this price is a complete rip off up to £2 above average bar prices .

Tavi went out of his way to make sure my wee boy, who has severe food allergies, had the most wonderful safe meal. Dishes were changed but still looked and tasted wonderful. Such a perfect night with my family and reassuringly safe, most importantly. If only there were more restaurants so happy to do things safely and perfectly. Thank you so very very much!!!!!!!

An absolutely fantastic restaurant. Fab food and the nicest and friendliest staff who couldnt do enough for you. Separate gluten free menu which had lots of options so you didnt have to go through a regular menu hoping for something you could eat. I had the fish pie and it was sublime. I would give them 20 stars if i could and im really looking forward to my next visit. Thank you so much for such a lovely dining experience

This restaurant is top class! I had the steak and my partner had the burger. No complaints but the only thing I would say is you need to get a bigger restaurant! When we were there 2 weeks ago there was a queue outside waiting for tables..so book your reservations in advance people!

Mi esposa y yo celebramos con mi hermana por su cumpleaños. El catalán (disculpas si mal escrito) estaba cuidando nuestra mesa. Qué noches tan divertidas tuvimos. Llegamos bastante tarde y el restaurante estaba tranquilo, pero él y el resto del personal organizaron una gran noche. Recomendamos muchas tapas para comenzar, recogí los platos principales y el vino. Todo de principio a fin fue de primera clase. No podría haber pedido una mejor noche y todos hicieron mucho escándalo por la dama de cumpleaños.

We two adults had a very delicious lunch here on Monday. A good choice on the Menu. Our food was very tasty and great service from the young waiter. An unexpected find and we would certainly return for a longer visit.

Came to try the tapas we'd been recommended, stayed to taste some of their lovely specials and cocktails. A wide variety of tapas to choose from, the halloumi bites are some of the best from the list. A very cosy, trendy restaurant with lovely ambience and lighting. Staff were very attentive and we ended up having some of the most delicious ravioli from the specials menu at the recommendation of our server.
