We wanted to go to the Waterfront but they don't allow dogs inside and it was raining, so they directed us to their 'sister' restaurant The Bank, but wish we'd stuck to the original plan and taken an umbrella. The menu is uninspiring, typical pub grub. Service was good, but the TV was on with the football with people cheering now and then, not very relaxing. I like football, but not when I'm trying to have a relaxing lunch. Food was OK. My partner had the fishcakes and they weren't fresh, probably frozen abs heated up so the inside was mush and bland and the outside very hard. I had the haddock and chips which was better. The fish was nice, seemed fresh and the batter was light. Chips where good. Next time we're going to the Waterfront.

Went for dinner , no reservation but managed to fit us in . Which was good but the chef needs basic lessons in cooking ! Salt pepper and butter are basics, If a Scottish restaurant can't get steak pie and mashed potatoes right then no hope . Sent back and removed from bill says it all really .

We came to Anstruther to enjoy its harbourside charm... We spotted Bank, looking lovely with its flowers outside. A perfect spot for a drink on a sunny evening and probably something to eat too. OMG. We ordered drinks upstairs in the main bar, which was okay - pleasant staff, good selection, quite a few very pissed locals propped on bar stools - then came back down the scruffy stairs, past the door to the kitchen, through the group of smokers watching the football on the outdoor screen, and went to the beer garden. Sunny and warm, so what could be better? The beer garden is quite enclosed with black walls - we'd imagined we might see the harbour/sea - and has a lot of plastic foliage in it, plastic wood tables burnt by people's fags, and worst of all, the extractor fan from the kitchens blows straight out onto the tables, so we were bathed in fatty fish scents. We drank quickly and left.

Was here not too long ago , some friends recommended it. The food was amazing , i had the venison and it was cooked to perfection and my family enjoyed what they had. the younger staff where very polite and attentive , but the older waitress had a name badge i found highly inappropriate especially especially as i had my young kids with me. The woman’s name badge said “tight a**) which serving customers with it highly inappropriate , you’d think the older workers would be setting a higher standards , not leaving all the work to the younger waitresses and being inappropriate. To end on a good note we will be back and hopefully the issue will be fixed.

What should have been a good night turned into a rather wet one. Unfortunately our waitress managed to spill 3 pints over our table and over us. This can happen to the best of us and is sadly an occupational hazard of waiting tables. We were given an apology and moved to another table as the floor was soaking and the 3 spilt pints were replaced. We ate our meals - 2 venison which could have been a bit more tender; I chicken, leek & bacon ‘pie’ where the filling had been microwaved and rather dried out with a pastry top placed on it and 1 portion of rather tasteless garlic mushrooms. We all had desserts which were very nice. We were slightly disappointed that the management made no effort to try and compensate us for what was a very bad start to our meal. We expected to at least have had the prices of the 3 replacement drinks removed from the bill, or been offered the desserts as a gesture of goodwill. Maybe we were just considered to be tourists, just passing through, but we are tourists who will be back in the area but will never eat here again.

I had dinner with my husband and two young children. The service was absolutely brilliant. The waitresses were all really friendly and drinks and food arrived quickly. There is a great children’s menu and my 6 year old said they were the best chicken goujons she’d ever had! We also had a haggis starter to share and my husband really enjoyed his chicken burger. I had mushroom linguine which was a bit of a disappointment as was my toddler’s tomato pasta however everything else was super. The location and view are wonderful. Definitely worth a visit!

Two out of three meals sent back, as food was cold. Ten minutes later food served again, extremely hot, very likely straight out of microwave! “Chef sends his apologies” meantime, the other diner had to eat on on their own. No reflection of an apology on the bill at the end of the night & no response to the email sent raising a complaint. Poor (very) poor customer service

Staff at The Bank are very attentive and friendly, we were made to feel very welcome with our 19 month old daughter. The menu is extensive and we were very happy with our starters of Haggis Bon Bons and Scallops with Black Pudding. We took the waitress’s recommendation for main course and ordered the Smoked Haddock Timbale and Lemon Prawn Linguine. Sadly neither lived up to expectation, the Linguine needed a sauce (it was just linguine with lemon juice I think) and the Timbale was dry. We shared the Banana Trifle for dessert and it was delicious. Probably wouldn’t hurry back due to the main courses not being very tasty.

Really good set up for covid, staff very busy but the level of cleanliness is to a good standard. Unfortunately the weather meant we couldn't stay long as it was cold and windy, but there is a good space under cover with tvs set up for those wanting to view it. Was disappointed there wasn't more local produce on the menu, and eating outside meant that everything went cold very quickly. Not a complaint - a side effect of the Scottish weather that can't really be avoided. A pot of tea we ordered didn't arrive and service was slow but we had to catch a bus home so paid up and left.

Went to the bank on 1st May in the afternoon and was shocked at the lack of Covid-19 mitigation in place. Staff were not wearing masks outside, staff seen shaking hands with customers, members of the public allowed inside waiting to the toilet with no masks, customers just moving seats to other groups, tables not being disinfected after use. Most of the younger customers were there for most of the day and acted as if Covid had never happened. If this is what is happening across Scotland then the hospitality industry will only have their self to blame if another lock comes along.

Our family were due to have Sunday lunch at The Bank on 15 November. It was a special occasion so I had called well in advance to reserve our tables and ensured they had contact information for the booking. My elderly parents, who had not left St Andrews all year, were very much looking forward to lunch out in Anstruther, as were the rest of our family. We were astounded on arriving to find that The Bank had closed on 13 November due Level 3 restrictions. No contact had been made with us prior to this. Had they had the courtesy and decency to advise us in advance we would have had the opportunity to make suitable alternative arrangements. As it was all the alternative venues in Anstruther were fully booked that day and we were also unable to get in anywhere in St Andrews. Certainly not the happy family meal out this should have been. I contacted The Bank by email to give them the opportunity to explain why they didn't think they should advise customers who had bookings that they were closed. Quite frankly their response added insult to injury. Firstly they quoted the phone number they had linked to the booking and advised they had called it and left a message that they would be closed. The number they quoted they had called was actually a non existent number (I checked, they obviously didn't) so it would have been impossible to leave a message. And given that I had ensured they had my correct details when booking the only conclusion is that they didn't think it was important enough to let customers know they were closing. I did reply to their email clarifying that the number they provided didn't exist and that they had in fact been given my correct number but have heard nothing further from them. This won't be somewhere that will get my business if they reopen, there are lots of good places in the area that value their customers but The Bank isn't one of them.

Ordering is paid for via contactless and staff encourage you to remove your drinks and food from their tray to minimise touching hard surfaces.Good menu with a wide range of very tasty food options and reasonably priced. I opted for a wrap which was served with fries and salad . My husband opted for a baked potato which was huge. The east coast can be be very windy but the beer garden at the Bank was lovely and sheltered.Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Visited on a Friday lunchtime middle of July. Got a table in beer garden. Good set up but unfortunately table was not wiped down before we ate. Not a good start. Couldnt get a hot cup of tea. First one was lukewarm and then asked for boiling water, again lukewarm. Ordered 2 chicken ceasar wraps with chips. Chips were fine but wraps were more like loads of cheap mayo in a wrap with a tiny bit of chicken. Not pleasant at all. Lager was pleasant. Would only return for a cold drink and chips possibly.

The food was absolutely exquisite, highly recommend the steak pie, service was great, very friendly waitress, great place to go for a nice family meal out, smart attire is not required despite it being a restaurant in a 4 star hotel, thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal and it was very pleasant, their apple pie is perfect, cannot complain about a single thing

We went here for a meal yesterday, 27th July, because our daughter had been last week, had enjoyed the food, and was happy with the precautions the Bank had made. What a difference a week makes. The food was still fine but Covid precautions were very poor. Specifically, staff were wearing no face masks or guards, tables were less than 1 m apart (they didn’t seem to have removed any tables, which have always been quite close together) there was no hand sanitiser obviously available at the entrance, and we were not asked for any contact details, or directed to somewhere we could leave details. Very disappointing and very unsafe if/when infection rates rise again. Won’t be going back

We returned to The Bank for another visit and again were not disappointed, (also stayed a couple of nights at their sister hotel here in Anstruther)the standard of accommodation and food and service is still top notch, that is why we keep coming back, the view from our back room out over the sea is hard to beat, as I have already reviewed before I will not repeat any photos this time as these can be seen from my previous reviews. we will return.

We have stayed in the Bank on numerous occasions and actually stayed the weekend prior to Christmas. This weekend was good and rooms as usual very pleasant clean and have no fault there! We and friends have spent the last two New Years in the Bank however choose not to this year as the break had been increased by £70 for the two nights! We stayed at the sister hotel and we were delighted with the price and every other aspect!Sadly the meal we had on 1.01.20 in the Bank was very disappointing! We were dining with our friends and sadly three out of the four main courses were cold! They were returned to the kitchen heated and returned without any apology! It has resulted in us not even considering the Bank for next year which I find sad as we have been on numerous occasions but feel the service in relation to the meal was below what was in the past a pleasant experience.

This is a a very mixed place with public bar, restaurant, rooms and outside area however it works very well. The food is good pub grub and a wee bit more. It is very reasonably priced for both food and drinks. Also dog friendly in the bar area.

Really enjoyed our stay here in a delightfully spacious room with spectacular views across the sea and harbour - sunrise was beautiful. Very comfortable, warm and spotlesslessly clean room with all the facilities required. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great bar downstairs with a good choice of real ales , local brews and gins. Food offering was fine, maybe a little predictable and pub like but ok for what it is. Dining area a little chilly both at breakfast and dinner so take an extra layer.

We returned to The Bank for another 3 night midweek stay and had a lovely time. A great en suite room with plenty of space. Breakfast is outstanding and the evening meals were both great and reasonably priced. The staff are lovely and considerate and couldn’t do enough for us. This is a great base to use the Fife coastal path.

The Bank is an archetypical Scottish bar. It’s roomy and clean, yet relatively Spartan, with none of the fripperies you would find in trendy city centre inns in Scotland or village pubs in England.Don’t get me wrong; they concentrate on getting the essentials right and we enjoyed efficient service, good Tennent’s, and decent music on the jukebox. The atmosphere was typical of a good, local pub and we would certainly use it again.

Another lovely weekend spent at The Bank. The room was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The staff as always were friendly and efficient. The food as usual was exceptional. Small criticism would be I couldn't finish my battered smoked haddock because the portion was ginormous! If you ever eat there you should try it. It is to die for!. They offer it at their sister restaurant, The Waterfront ( another excellent place to eat) and at the Waterfront Chippy too. We will definitely be back but would recommend if you go, don't have a room at the front on a Saturday night when a DJ is on. My husband is a light sleeper and was kept awake by the music. Having said that it didn't spoil our weekend. That honour went to Eastern Touch ( see my review of that.)

This is the sister hotel to The Waterfront and we were recommended to go there for an evening meal by The Waterfront due to late arrival. We were a family of five and had the most delicious meal. The staff couldn't have made us feel more at home after a weary journey up from the South. We all tried different choices and they were all well presented and delicious. Lovely black and white old photographs on the walls to add to the ambience. Thank You!

Came here on the last night of our holiday. We were the only party in the restaurant to begin with, but by the time we left there were 4 or 5 tables occupied. It has a nice view from the conservatory dining room. Our meal arrived very quickly, never a good sign unless you’re in a fast food place! My meal had clearly been microwaved. The veg looked disgusting- brown bits on the cabbage & everything was shrivelled and dead looking! The haddock mornay had a pool of water sitting in the dish. The baby potatoes looked scruffy but tasted ok (again, microwaved). The waitress never returned to ask how it was. To be honest, the fish was really nice but I had to mix the sauce & water myself to get it looking appetising! The veg were left untouched. My sisters scampi & chips was fine, can’t really go wrong with deep fried food! When the waitress finally appeared to clear our plates, I said the veg was disgusting and she said she’d let the chef know. There was no further mention or apology when the bill came, and no discount from the bill. We won’t be back!

While the staff were pleasant and attentive. We were disappointed overall with the food. Sea bass was dry and the portions of scallops small. Table space and layout very cramped. We had to order our dinner online days in advance. All of which took the shine off what was meant to be a special day for my wife.
