What fantastic decor (Art Deco). The Aviator is on an active airfield so if your fortunate you'll see some activity. We saw a twin seater Spitfre flying. Chris behind the bar was very welcoming and helpful. We eat in the lovely restaurant, the Sea Bass was very tasty as was the apple and cinnamon crumble. Our server, Holly was very cheerful and efficient. We will certainly be going back to eat.

NOT disabled friendly Beware The food is outstanding BUT if you have mobility issues this is NOT the place for you I have mobility issues and needed to access their disabled toilet. 1) not clearly signposted 2) staff did not know where the disabled toilet was and needed to find a manager 3) the manager needed to find the key to access the part of the building where the toilet was situated 4) once we finally found the toilet there was a code needed to get in Altogether a vey embarrassing Experience!

My family and I, 24 people in total had a fantastic and superb meal at the wonderful 30s era Aviator Hotel Restaurant. The atmosphere, accommodation (including disabled facilities and access), management co-ordination and planning, reception team, host and staff, head chef and kitchen team, food, and drinks was all top notch and excellent. Many of my family fed back it was one of the best events and food they had experienced. Special mention to Joe on reception, Mo co-ordinating manager, the head chef and Cydney our hostess and her fellow team. Nothing was too much effort for them. We will be returning! Thank you so much

I visited here because of the Art Deco/Nouveau Building. But would be more than happy to stop there, having visited the bar for a coffee/cake and read the menu, which looked most inviting. However, we had a coffee/tea, and some of the cake/rocky road from the chilled cabinet, which was actually a little bit tough for me. But very pleasant service, décor in hotel was jolly GLORIOUS, fab opportunity to watch light aircraft and helicopters taking off/landing. Well worth a visit if in the area.

We stayed one night following a Spitfire flight from Ultimate Warbirds "next door". It had looked good on the website but the reality is even better. The attention to detail is excellent and you really did feel you'd been transported back in time. The fact that someone had generously parked not one, but two Spitfires outside just added to the experience. The rooms were lovely, the food was good and reasonably priced. A little gem.

I've stayed at the Aviator previously, and really enjoyed it, particularly the authentic and original Art Deco throughout, peppered with Art Deco furniture, artefacts and lots of aviation memorabilia. The Aviator is a gem. I was a little concerned though, to read some recent reviews. No need for no concerns at all. The place is still wonderful, and clean and smart too). The busy staff are friendly, helpful and professional. But one significant improvement was the evening meal. I understand the Aviator has a new chef. My dinner was excellent. Delicious. I am looking forward to returning to the Aviator soon.

We were disappointed at our visit for Sunday lunch. The roast options were not available, but they did advise in advance. The member of staff looked disinterested and told us she was leaving anyway. The atmosphere was not good, few tables were booked and the food very average. It was the first time i have visited in a few years and it seems to have lost its sparkle, which is a real shame given the location and furnishings.

Hi, I don't know whether this post really relates to the restaurant but I had ordered 20 lunches for a special occasion during the AeroExpo event. First of all I never had any communication back from the caterers, secondly the food was overpriced and thirdly nobody ever showed up checking on my group whether everything was ok or if we needed something or to help set the lunch up. All they did was to put sandwiches and samosas into plastic boxes. I felt food was totally overpriced for what it was (could have bought the stuff myself in a supermarket for a quarter of the price!) and I was very disappointed. this might not relate to the service in the actual restaurant but the company was hired to provide catering for the Airshow and that was definitely crap!

I visited this restaurant with a friend for a catch up. NEVER again. The food was truly awful. I started off with gammon and egg with so called "gourmet" fries and a side salad. The gammon was tough as old boots and more fat than gammon - actually truly inedible. Alongside were 2 fried eggs - were they left over from breakfast because they certainly looked it? The gourmet chips were clearly just frozen thick cut chips - also I think you need to change your cooking oil chef too! Disappointing side salad consisting of a bowl of mixed leaves with 2 slivers of pepper - that's it. As it was inedible, I sent this meal back and requested a burger instead. That took 25 minutes to arrive by which time my friend had finished eating so that wasn't great. Well, what can I say about the burger? That was also inedible, it was dense as a brick with a weird taste and definitely not what you'd expect for what they're charging, so I gave up on dinner. Desserts were fine thank goodness as I was starving! The only redeeming factor of this place were the young ladies that served us who couldn't have been lovelier. It was quite clear by the end of this meal that in fact the chef needs better quality ingredients to start with in order to produce a meal worthy of the outrageous sums being charged here for simply dreadful food.

We arrived at 5 to find they don’t open until 6. All very friendly and tell us it’s first come first served (no reservations allowed) so to come back at 6 and have a drink outside while we wait. We go back at 6 and they say the managing director has said hotel residents are being prioritised so they won’t seat us. We pointed out (along with a few others who were told the same after attending the Sywell Pistons and Props event next door) that we were told to wait and the place is empty (apart from one couple who let a group in front of us join them so they could get in!) so surely we can be seated? The answer is no and the MD won’t be coming out to explain it either. Appalling service, end of. The Horseshoe up the road, however, were very friendly.

Prepare to travel back to the 1930s but with contemporary facilities. Staying at the Aviator is a wonderful experience. The staff are friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant is an experience in its own right and the food is excellent. The hotel is on Sywell airfield but you don't need to worry about aircraft noise keeping you awake at night. During the day you can sit out on the terrace and watch the aircraft which includes historic aircraft such as a Spitfire and Tiger Moths. The Aviator is definitely not your ordinary hotel.

It's a nice nostalgic environment (maybe a little tied looking so could do with a fresh uplift), but I would certainly not describe the food as restaurant quality. The food I had was adequate/average, but the menu is fairly limited, and the establishment disappointingly, limits the menu even further when there is an event going on at the airfield location. I guess they feel they can't cope when there are too many visitors, and I assume it's more cost effective to reduce the food choice than to increase the kitchen staff for the duration. It is really only the standard of food you would expect from your local pub or a bar. I was expecting a little more both with the choice available and also the standard of cooking. I had battered fish and chips, the fish seemed fresh but really quite soggy and the batter did not stick to the fish, so I ended up eating very wet fish slopping around inside a hollow shell of batter... I paid by card as I had no cash, and when I tried to add a tip for the staff on the card payment it was too late. The serving staff said "It doesn't matter you didn't add on the tip before the transaction was processed, we wouldn't see it even if you had."If that comment is true, then I'm not impressed with the management.

(The picture included is after I have cut the pizza for my son). I wish I had not stopped to eat as what should have been a treat for us all turned into an expensive but disappointing meal, the waitress did remove one of the meals from the bill but I won’t be returning for food. The building itself is lovely!

Myself, my girlfriend and my Mum dined together at about 7.30 on a Thursday evening.15 mins+ after ordering our food we were told that two of our mains weren't available. No idea why it took so long for us to be told. Only three other diners were in the restaurant. After some confusion about what on the menu was still available, we ordered alternative dishes. Our apologetic and somewhat embarrassed waiter offered us a round of free drinks which softened our moods a little. However, the following day my girlfriend was very unwell with diarrhoea and vomiting. She seemed to get rid of whatever nasties were in her system within 24 hours. I, however, wasn't so acutely unwell, but had an upset stomach and achy, tired limbs for days afterwards. My Mum got away with it as she didn't share meals as my girlfriend and I had.Looking back, I remember thinking how chewy and slightly tough the wild mushrooms were in my pasta dish. Whether it was the mushrooms or not I'll probably never know. What I'd highly recommend is that this restaurant's kitchen is fully inspected and all procedures are assessed to meet good standards of hygiene and to avoid other customers falling ill.Just to add. Our waiter was very good considering the position he was put in with no knowledge of the menu changes. He also had to wrestle with a faulty card machine, but made it work in the end. I'm afraid we won't be going back.

I have been to the Aviator many times in the past and always had a positive experience. I have to say on my visit for a birthday lunch on the 19th Feb I was left disappointed and somewhat bemused.I ordered the Ploughman’s which I have had on several previous occasions as it has been one of my favourites from the menu.....Nice piece of ham , cheese selection, pickles , fruit , salad and fresh crusty bread ....always lovely.I ordered this time and received all the usual additions to a ploughman’s but instead of ham I was treated to a huge great lump of what in my eyes was tinned corned beef and two slices of roast beef that I could have soled my shoes with .Some how corned beef , cheese and fruit was not what I expected and to be honest really did not meld well together ......it was awful .I told the waitress I wasn’t happy and actually showed her how tough the beef was by trying to cut it .....she brought me a steak knife ???? Didn’t really help me chew it or digest my lovely corned beef , cheese and apple combo either. She was going to get the chef to taste it she said ........and that’s the last we saw of her .......we left after sitting there for almost an hour with no sign of life anywhere .I won’t be back

It's the venue that gets the accolades here: as a previous reviewer says, it's a fabulous art deco building, and of course, there are many items of memorabilia around, too, of the golden age of spiffing flying old chap! There is a reasonable choice of menu with a board of Specials from which to choose. We enjoyed main courses, hot, freshly prepared, and served by friendly and helpful staff. Also the deserts were varied, but a fairly limited choice. There were three little niggles. The wine is available in 125cc or 250cc glasses, but not 178cc. Why ?? Three portions of ice cream were £4.95, I believe, Life got stressful and complicated when we asked for one portion; two portions were initially charged at £4.95. Really ?? Sense did prevail, I'm happy to record. The treacle tart appeared to be a shop job, and with over heated / burnt pastry. Oh well. A small price to pay for an excellent venue, friendly and helpful staff, and generally good food. We will go again.

I often visit because I love watching the planes and helicopters . Always friendly visitors. Shame I had to ask twice like a school kid to gain access to the disabled toilet. I am aware it was a busy bank holiday Monday . But this isn't the first time this has happened . Surely access to the disabled toilet isn't too much to ask ?. If the room closed of which needs to be accessed to get to the loo is not wanted to be used . Simply put a sign up. Access to a loo isn't something I should have to ask for . I was ignored by one woman behind the bar constantly . I had to remind another member of staff that I was still there waiting for the swipe card to be used in the door. Now if I actually had been left any longer they would have had more work to do . Sitting in a peri menopausal lake of human waste would have taken far liger than actually just swiping a card. I had to say loudly that I was going to wet myself if someone didn't allow me access. Even visitors were beginning to notice my anxiety. My partner came to find me because I had been gone for so long. This isn't the first time I have left upset ,angry ,anxious and nearly in tears . You seriously have a lot to put in place for those with disability. Now if I had actually had an accident this would have gone further than trip advisor . Allowing and dismissing someone's needs is disgusting. I could have been seriously humiliated and embarrassed . I don't deserve that . And neither do the customers who could visibly see my anxiety raising .

Didn’t offer anything else as too what all the bottles were on display. When I just ordered the aviator Gin she barked with what tonic !! She was so rude had we not been needing a drink because of the hot day I would have just left. If this is the service paying hotel guests and customers get it’s a wonder people use the bar. The decor is lovely and traditional Art Deco style the garden area is also well presented with a view across the airfield. But I will not be returning anytime soon. Maybe she was having a bad day but a little manners and a smile goes a long way.

My sister loves anything art deco and I had told her about the restaurant at the Aviator Hotel. We had a wonderful meal. I'm gluten intollerant and so it can be difficult for me on choices of food. After the meal we took a look around at some items of art deco on display withitin the restaurant and bar seating areas. It was a lovely place to enjoy a great meal watching over the airfield.

This hotel is part of the Sywell Aerodrome complex and offers its visitors the opportunity to step back into a period of interior design, namely, Art-Deco. We only had some drinks and snacks from the bar but the atmosphere and furnishings were so warm and comfortable that it was easy to forget the dreadful wind and rain that were a prominent featured on this Bank Holiday Saturday. The sandwiches were freshly prepared and served with a smile by the friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.

We stayed for 2 nights. the rooms are nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing We also had dinner last Saturday evening which again was delicious. There are 2 tiny black marks. One, no food at all is served on Sunday evenings, not even a sandwich, so for the likes of us who "flew in" and had no transport, eating was difficult. The second thing again relates to those who "fly in" There is no car hire available. The hotel does offer taxi suggestions but perhaps making a car available (at a charge) or having a deal with a local car hire firm to come to the airport would be useful There is an Enterprise about 6 miles away but they wont pick you up from the airfield. Having said all of that, would we stay again- yes we would!

Met here for coffee before going on a simulator ride at neighbouring Virtual Aerospace. We returned afterwards for a drink on the terrace area next to the airfield. Some fascinating aviation memorabilia and photos. Pleasant, helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

You have a choice of pub type menu or some more upmarket options. Food was really nice. Service staff were young and friendly, so don't look for polished table service. We realky enjoyed our meal there.

What a wonderful place, authentic and unique, so much history presented in significant detail, down to the light fittings and casual coffee tables. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, music and surroundings here, highly recommended as a destination.

Visited for lunch .We chose the soup. When it finally arrived it was tepid. Also quite tasteless. At no time did any of the staff apologise. The place is in need of a revamp. Furniture in the bar area is old and worn. Biggest downside to our visit was the lack of basic manners.

We visited this restaurant on 20.01.19 for Sunday lunch. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt, the roast beef was mainly fat and gristle and very poor veg. My partners beef Stroganoff was very dry and unappetizing. I complained to the waiter about the food and all I got as a response was I will tell the chef, as being part of a larger party I did not want to spoil the occasion, It ruined a lovely setting. I have never written a review before but felt so strongly about this I had to on this occasion.

What a gem of a place. Amazing decoration and surroundings. Have visited a few times for drinks. Food is only served at specific times so you need to check before going as they have a lunch and evening sitting. Would recommended just for the setting.

This is my second visit in as many months. The Ambience of this Art-Deco building is lovely, the food is absolutely fantastic obviously cooked by caring & professional chefs. The waiting staff are friendly but not intrusive. Cannot recommend enough.

My mom had booked the restaurant for her 70th birthday party on the 29th of February for 12 of us. It took an hour for the waitress to take our order and a further hour to get our food. My dad paid the bill and when he got home, he had been charged for 14 meals and only 11 of us ate. They are trying to recuperate the money now but keep getting fobbed off. The service was absolutely horrendous, 2 waitresses working and it wasn't busy but they just kept walking past, not looking at us or being attentive at all. They really lost out as we would have had so many more drinks and would have had desert. I will never recommend this place for ruining what should have been a really special day for my Mom. She had booked it well in advance so they knew we were coming.

First visit to the restaurant as we have just moved to the area but we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant looks great with lots of aeronautical furniture, memorabilia and artwork. The meals are great and the service is friendly and professional. We ordered a bottle of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc but it was warm and no explanation made. Will try again but the wine issue needs to be sorted!

We were on a Sunday car rally and this was our lunch/picnic stop. Some ate in and some ate outside. I was most impressed with this beautiful and elegant Art Deco style building. Congratulations on providing a tranquil atmosphere with period fixtures and fittings. Sitting quietly i could imagine how it would have felt to travel by plane all those years ago. Tempted to come back and have a flight in a Spitfire, which can be booked here. Across the car park is a fantastic museum (check opening times) Well worth a visit with social history as well as fascinating aviation and wartime exhibits

Took my family for Sunday lunch today. I called in yesterday to book in person but was told today I was not on the list! We were however given a table as they were not by any means full. The turkey was dry, the lamb was in small portions, the roast sirloin for which we paid a supplement was tough. I think the beef was served with skin on - the leather. After complaining we had a 50% refund on the beef. The fish was served by the waiter who asked who had ordered the tuna ! The cod was over cooked. We had to request cutlery then we had to request napkins. We were aware that other tables were not happy and the only time we saw a supervisor/manager was when someone complained. The staff were young, untrained and lacked support and supervision. I was once told that to leave a tip one should receive value for money, quality food and good service. The Aviator has failed on all three accounts. I will return but will stick to the bar food which is good and not pretentious.
