Great fish and chips,the staff are so friendly!

They overall experience was fine . But ur itson Vouchers are a joke .. it does not include a drink and you get the choice of only 3 main meals .Ridulous Macaroni. Fish and chicken. Let's just say if we knew that we would have never have travelled from forfar £20 fuel And paying £6 for drinks . Not happy .

Got a take away tonight, the chips were seriously undercooked, hard to bite into. This is very disappointing, I've been coming to ashvale for years. Their standards have seriously slipped, staff don't look like they care even if the slightest!

Was given raw chips and when I told them about it I was given undercooked chips again. No apology whatsoever from staff, they didn't look interested at all

We had a takeaway order of a jumbo haddock and chipsteak suppers. Opened the box and was pleased to see two large fish in the box which was great. Unfortunately the batter was super soggy and the fish had a little bit of a bleach taste on one part ,the chips were anaemic and tasteless. The batter on the chipsteak was about three millimetres thick and soggy. Very much disappointed as I have eaten in the restaurant many times and have never had a bad experience, always good quality food. Don't know what went wrong this time but don't think I will try the takeaway again.

A sad reflection of its former self, fish was poor in every respect, it was tiny, tasteless, certainly not fresh, and consisted mostly of a thick coating of undercooked greasy batter. Even the chips had little or no taste and were not all cooked properly and as for the mush peas these were cold. Will not be back, AVOID!

Used to be my ‘go to’ for a fish supper. Very disappointed by tonight’s offering. Fish was okay, though not up to the usual standard, chips were literally scrapings from the bottom of the barrel. There were a few decent ones but the rest were hard, brown / black or green. Very poor.

Great fish and chips and reasonably priced. Our 3 year old loves the ashvale and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Dinner out for the family is always well priced even with multiple courses.

Well considering we waited 20 minutes i expected a hot fresh meal to take away. Hard chips cold,soggy fish that tasted like onion rings,green chips the whole lot cold,my husband's the same £17 down the grid.this use to be my number 1 place to visit in Aberdeen,gone down the pan,it was vile.wont be returning,sad

It's been ages since we've visited, but we were taking my granda out for tea and the restaurant was close by. Family of 4 went for tea. 2 had the haddock, 1 chicken fillets and 1 burger. The fish was lovely and fresh, batter crispy but light, just right. All other food was good too. Service was prompt and friendly. Offered to exit via side door, which was accessible with no steps for 1 member of our family. Thank you.

Great to be back at the Ashvale, staff are absolutely a delight, reasonable prices. Slight shortage on ladies toilet, only 2 for a large restaurant?

We went for an event and it was a shame we didn’t change the boys fish to breaded as one of the boys didn’t eat much of his fish. The staff were very helpful.

Piping hot and tasty haddock, chips and peas for lunch! Fish beautifully white and fresh, breadcrumb coating golden and crisp. Great chips and a juicy wedge of fresh lemon to squeeze over the fish. Lovely pot of hot tea, just grand! Friendly and efficient service.

Very bad takeaway. The smoked sausage was cold, the chips were only just cooked and the batter on the fish was soggy. The steak pie was very greasy. Very disappointed. We won’t be going back.

I've visited it many times, all was super except one time, it was busy the food wasn't good at all and even the order was wrong. The Ashvale whale is not that big, but you have to finish all the French fries that's the only trick. I would recommend it but avoid the busy times.

Can’t really mark atmosphere as I had a take away. I don’t get to go here often as I don’t live locally but it’s always my first choice when visiting Aberdeen.

We had a takeaway from here on Xmas eve, usually we go to Portlethen branch but they have since closed. Chips soggy and mush, 2 haddock’s seemed to be old and did not smell too good. I think they closed the wrong takeaway down. Won’t be going back. It looks like the Ashvale Whale is dead.

Always assumed that the Ashvale had an excellent reputation for the provision of traditional fish suppers but on a recent visit for a sit in meal my expectations were not what I would have expected from the Ashvale. The fish batter was certainly not crispy and was more aligned to the mushy peas. The chips were certainly not fresh and had obviously been prepared much earlier than my visit.

This was my first stop in Aberdeen. The food was amazing. I made friends with other guest. I recommend this stop to everyone coming to Aberdeen.

Frozen fish, although stating fresh. I used to own a fish and chip shop. Why lie ? Gets you no where in business be honest ?

Good to have traditional Scottish tea. Have really missed white pudding and Irn Bru. Never had it with peas before but it was excellent. Restaurant was quiet but it was early on Tuesday evening. Plenty of parking space in the carpark.

Always nice to go to for traditional fish and chips. Choose brand, peas, or even mushy peas and tuck in. Always friendly service and overall a great traditional restaurant.

The restaurant was absolutely freezing, the chips were cold the chicken fillets batter was hard and chicken was dry and the tea was cold , won’t be back for a very long time

All I can say is RIP maccy pie! I totally remember now why I stopped going to the ashvale. Do you take all the maccy pies to the crem before cooking them? In store they have the absolute cheek to state they have 30 years of award winning food, they certainly wouldn't be winning anything for the state of my pie. I think it was probably an award 30 years ago and have just been milking it. Please learn how to cook a pie without cremating it. Fish and Hook all the way from here on in. Now that's a chipper I very much recommend 👌

First and last visit. We visited tonight after my dad had been previously and raved about it. The night started OK as we were seated by a very friendly server and our order was taken. The starters came out relatively quickly however my onion rings were cold, not even luke warm, cold. When we eventually managed to locate a server she advised she would have them replaced, she then came back around 5 minutes later to say that unfortunately the kitchen had a large order and I would have a long wait for them The alternative was to have themserved with my main which I reluctantly agreed to so my family didn't have to wait too long for their mains. Little did I know that it would take 55 mins for our mains to be served. We advised a server we had been waiting a while to be told that there were large take away orders so everything else had to wait....I advised we were also paying customers and this was not acceptable. The food was then served about five minutes later. My partner had to go over to the bar area himself for a drink and when he brought it back tk the table it had bits floating in it, he took it back and the waiter said he would bring another over. I watched as the waiter simply tipped a small amount out of the top and fill it with lemonade (it was a lager tops) he then proceeded to serve it. I asked him why he was serving the same drink and he said oh I thought you wanted it filled up more!!!! Then came the bill, it was placed on pur table and we went up to pay by card only for them to try and charge over £20 more than what it said on the bill. Horrendous. Under staffed in both front of house and kitchen, would not recommend

Hmmm, fish and chips (almost) perfection. A bit of a legend in Aberdeen, best known for it's famous fish and chips. Really, when something is marketed that hard there's really no excuse to order anything else other than their speciality. So is the fish and chips the stuff of legend? Kind of. I mean, it's not bad (and certainly a cut above a normal chipper) but on the other hand it's not truly memorable either. I think the best way of describing it is 'reliably above average' as we have seen consistent high quality food in all the times we have visited. Helpings are generous. The fish and chips comes with a choice of peas (mushy or normal) or baked beans. On the table there's as much sauces and condiments as you could ever want. Oh and kids under 5 eat for free. Service is usually very fast although admittedly we tend to avoid super busy times. Given its legendary local status booking is recommended.

Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Met by a friendly waitresses who asked our preference in table location. Both ordered haddock and chips. Good size portion. Cooked to order. Cooked to perfection. We will return!

Love a sit down at the Ashvale! Brilliant, fresh and cooked to order cod and rock turbot. Chips were tasty and crisp and you’re always offered more if you want. Batter on the fish just perfect and the service from the staff so friendly. Really recommend.

Besten Fish&Chip den ich bisher gegessen habe. Ich empfehle das 2 Gängemenue zu nehmen, hier stimmt das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis besonders. Absolut freundliche Bedienung und ausreichen Parkplätze, zumindest als ich da war.

What an amazing place! Never in my life have I tried deep-fried haggis but I must say I really did enjoy it. Staff were friendly and got our order correct and brought our food in very little time. Interior was very nice with old pictures of Aberdeen hung up to be looked at while waiting for the lovely meal. Toilets were clean and hygienic as well. The only problem would be the parking. From what I could see there weren't all that many parking spots so when this place is full one might have to park somewhere off the premises. Other than that would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try typical Scottish dishes such as haggis or dare to tackle the Ashvale Whale! Will come here again hoping that next time I will eat that one pound monster!

Slightly disappointed. Friendly hard working staff let down by the food and cleanliness of glasses. The food was tasty but the chicken fillets were overcooked. But what spoiled it was the lipstick marks all around our glasses. This would easily be fixed with a pub type glass washer. Come on guys, you can do better!

Best chippy ever, fresh and hot every time

My husband and i go up to Aberdeen regularly to see family and our first stop is always the ashvale,went for tea tonight, firstly my fish was dry and luke warm,it was swapped and the second one was delicious as always, i asked for a small haddock supper,i was told there was a cup of tea and a slice of bread with the oap meal!!!! Im 52! I bit my lip, when we went to the bar to pay for our meal my husband joked with the server saying " the wife wasn't happy that you thought she was an oap" the server replied with " oh I'm sorry would you prefer senior citizen", i walked in the ashvale happy and hungry and walked out with my confidence on the floor,their staff are rude, presumptuous and im deeply offended,im 52 yrs old. That's what happens i guess when you have a load of school kids as staff,i suppose a 30 yr old would look old to them.very rude and immature,ruined my whole evening

Ordered the “Famous fish and chips” regular size and when they arrived the chips were dry, bland and tasteless. The portion of fish was small with more batter than fish. It looked like the fish was cut in half! I asked the waitress if this was a regular portion and she said yes but sometimes they can be bigger. I replied saying well it certainly wasn’t this time. Costings for this meal did not reflect what you receive!

Tonight, together with my husband, we decided to visit The Ashvale for fish and chips. Unfortunately from the entrance the place gave an impression of stuck in the past, but we thought that maybe food will be simply first class. However, we could not be more mistaken than that. Service was slow and very unprofessional. I ordered a soft drink and this was served in a plastic long glass!!! When our fish and chips arrived, chips were dry and dull like they spent all day waiting for us, fish batter had a horrible aftertaste and peas were brown. After a bite of this super awful dinner we simply got up from our table and went to the manager to let them know about our massive disappointment with quality of food. Well at that point we thought that food was bad, but reaction of manager matched food. We offered to pay for the soft drink which we drunk waiting for food, however we were also charged for a pot of tea which was being served with the meal, but we never touched it. Furthermore, place was dirty and smell was dingy. One thing for sure, The Ashvale is nothing like fish and chips restaurant should be. Place is dirty, interior stuck in the past, staff unpleasant and food absolutely horrible. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. We left hungry and super disappointed, therefore if you are looking for fish and chips and you would like to have nice food with a nice atmosphere avoid The Ashvale.
