Amazing food and brilliant customer service! We enjoyed a family birthday meal here today, we rang ahead (by 2 weeks) to ensure they could cater for a vegan diet. And wow did they deliver! The 3 course vegan meals were amazing, so well thought through and cooked to perfection. The meat meals were all enjoyed also, everyone's plate was clean. Would highly recommend 👌

Phoned to book a table for 4 adults and 2 toddlers yesterday as it was my Dads birthday. We were actually in town looking at other cafes at the the time however the girl that answered asked if we wanted food and said that was fine but to come straight away. I did explain we were in town but we would pack up and head straight over (which we did) - she said this was fine. Absolutely no mention of food service stopping on the phone. We arrived 20/25 minutes later at 2.57 to be told we couldn’t have food and it was only cake/coffees as they stopped at 3. I had 2 children under 2 with me, we’d travelled through those awful roadworks to be told no food. The lady telling us was quite abrupt and said we’d been told on the phone food service was ending at 3 (we hadn’t - we wouldn’t have gone there if we’d been told that!). My sister, her partner and toddler had also turned up assuming they’d accommodate an extra 3 (which the girl on the counter had said was fine when we arrived) however we were still told no food. We left and went back in to town as they clearly didn’t want our custom. Disappointing as it does look like a nice cafe and somewhere my dad has wanted to try for a while however after our experience, being made to feel like they were doing us a favour letting us in, and their lack of customer service skills we won’t be back.

Popped in for a lunch date with my wife and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Staff very friendly and attentive and food was great too! Overall a great experience and I cannot wait to come back again. Steak was perfectly cooked and key lime pie was so silly smooth!

Not a disability friendly cafe ! If your disabled, I'd advise not going ! My 2 daughters went for a day out to watch the plains and get some lunch ! They didn't know they at to book, which is fine and we're told they could sit outside and order drinks and cake, absolutely fine ! So.....my youngest daughter has high functioning autism, looks just like Mr and you but has autism and high anxiety, so getting her to agree to go out takes alot of planning and talking. Get her to go BUT has to take her own packed lunch, now many will say 'you can't take your own food to a cafe'....fully understand BUT when a staff member approaches them and infront of other customers and embarrassed them telling them she can't eat her packed lunch (child with packed lunch), I find absolutely disgusting! 1...don't embarrass them infront of people 2...maybe find out if there's a reason why a child has taken her own packed lunch ! 3...not every disability is visual ! MAYBE STAFF TRAINING TO BE MORE POLITE MAYBE STAFF TRAINING TO THINK THERE MIGHT BE A REASON WHY THAT CHILD IS EATING HER OWN PACKED LUNCH ! absolutely disgusted in this place for now making my autistic daughter feel beyond anxious and now as her parent, who has spend days talking to her about going here (to watch the planes) now has to spend the next how ever long reassuring her it's fine to leave the house again and try something different. So Thank-you APRON cafe for being so kind and understanding and for embarrassing 2 young girls who had innocently gone for a little day out !

A stunning starter! We love finding quirky or off beat places for great food. The view out onto the runway is great on a nice day. The interior was smart, comfortable and there was a warm welcome. The soda bread was soft and very tasty. We really enjoyed the crab beignets with Asian style slaw and chilli dipping sauce - it was fantastic. The sea bass main tasted great - and the skin was crispy. It was a large portion so a dessert was off the menu for me! The cakes looked inviting too so we’ll definitely be returning!

I was taken here for a surprise breakfast and it was brilliant. The decor is great, staff are friendly..and the full English was superb, cant wait to go again. We purchased a couple of loaves of their breaf to take home...which was delicious

I and my wife's first visit,excellent food and staff very friendly. I had the breakfast which was very hot including the plate.my wife had scrambled egg with salmon,both well presented and lovely taste.will be going back to this amazing cafe.

Had a light lunch which was excellent. Lovely staff and a great setting. Food was excellent, with some interesting bread types as an added bonus. We all enjoyed our visit and are hoping to return later in March

We had breakfast, it was delicious. The staff were lovely and the service was great. It was a warm & welcoming place to eat and chat, very relaxing. The coffee and food was hot and beautifully cooked. We would highly recommend a visit there. We will certainly visit again, perhaps for lunch next time.

Everything about our three course meal was fabulous. The food here is just scrumptious, and the staff are lovely and welcoming. If you’re lucky you can purchase the lovely bread that is made on the premises.

We called in here for lunch while waiting for our caravan to be fixed. So glad we did. The food was delicious, the staff were super and they had some gluten free options too. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We landed here having been told the airfield cafe is a good place to eat. Not only was the landing fee haved due to us eating at the Apron but the food was lovely. We only had sausage rolls and pastries but they were amazing.

Just been to the Apron with friends to celebrate a birthday. The delicious breakfast (including vegetarian) was perfectly cooked and the coffee is excellent. We were fortunate to be there on a day when there were numerous light aircraft taking off and landing and had a table next to the window so we could make the most of it. Thanks to all at the Apron.

Delicious sourdough-seriously, the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ve had a few vegan items from here over the last few months and all have been delicious too. Nice to be catered for! Always an interesting place to eat, watching the planes come in and out, but the real star here is the cakes, breads and pastries. This place really knows what it’s doing.

Went for breakfast this morning with the family and it was fantastic! The service was great and the food is fantastic. I had the smoked salmon, avocado and scrambled duck egg on sourdough and it was beautiful. The portions are generous and the bread, croissants etc. are all baked on site. There weren’t many flights taking off today but there were a couple of planes dotted about and my nephews loved going to see them.

Recomend3ed by a friend we visited for a family reunion lunch. The venue is bright and modern, perhaps slightly industrial but appropriate because of its environment. However the food was far from industrial The menu is not long but the choice is appropriate. Our plaice was superbly cooked an the vegetables excellent, the broad beans had that ultimate preparation od being peeled so they do not have the slightly bitter skins. the fact this is a restaurant/cafe means that the food is freshly cooked for each customer.

Visited The Apron for the first time on Saturday 1st June for breakfast. The staff were very polite and helpful and brought our breakfast and drinks to us outside (nice seating area for when it's warm).

After reading great reviews we decided to go to this cafe for a morning coffee. The place wasn’t too busy and we walked in and took a table. There were no menus on the table and two girls behind the counter. The table next to us was just being served so I asked if there was a menu only to be told abruptly “No, breakfast is finished so it’s just what’s on the counter.” No, friendly hello, no smile and the place wasn’t busy. The four of us looked at one another and just left. You were given the impression they couldn’t care less if you ate there or not. Will not be going there again no matter how good food might be, rude ambivalent staff are a great sales prevention team. Instead we drove down the lane to Thaymars and had a fab time spending £65 with them instead, as we decided to have lunch there. Perhaps the company ought to send their staff on some customer service training and teach them about good manners

Have just been there for lunch today following a recommendation. 4 adults, all had 3 courses for £24 each. A bottle of lovely Malbec at £19. The food was excellent. Well presented and tasty. Quick service, and nice views of the planes and runway. No noise problems despite being close. Adequate parking and easy to find off the A1 near Markham Moor. Will visit again. Booking is advisable.

Our first visit here, we were not disappointed. Our meals were absolutely delicious. We will definitely return. The best breakfast around in our opinion.

Very nice place for a meal. Always a good option. From a snack, coffee & croissant, soup & a bun through to the full meal; everything we've had here has been really good. The home baked bread by Charlotte is worth the visit in it's own right. Some folks actually fly in at weekends just for the bread!

Been meaning to call in here before but just never had. Today we decided to call in for lunch. You can’t see the cafe/restaurant from the road so we didn’t really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. A very smart minimalistic eatery with views across the airfield. Lovely menu with a fixed price menu that looked lovely and then a few lunch options. I had the quiche with salad and new potatoes and my husband the toasted sandwich which had so many components but my husband said it all worked and it was delicious. Wine by the glass and great bread (It’s a bakery too). Lovely lunching experience. We will be back to try the breakfast menu soon I am sure.

Was able to get a front row view of planes and choppers taking off while having our lunch, which was really very good (but a tad pricey, but still worth it, though!) Kitchen closes early so make sure you check for availability

We took my gran after her friends had told her about the cafe, always wanting to try something new i googled it and as recommended booked a table.

We've been here 4 or 5 times since moving to the area. Mostly when we've had family visiting, so it's alway been a group booking for 6+. They've handled these bookings well every time, sometimes we've chosen our food before arrival and sometimes once we've arrived. The food is always delicious, it's a bit different to what you'd make at home which is the prerequisite for me tbh. The staff are attentive and friendly, as well as being flexible if you have specific dietry needs. The only small niggle would be the tiled floor, glass tables and metal chair legs don't help the acoustics of the dining area, and those who are hard of hearing can find it overwhelmingly loud if the restaurant is busy. A few more fabrics and some sound breaks may improve this but either way, it definitely won't stop us going back again and again.

Never had a bad meal here, the standard is really high and the food is always packed with flavour. The Chef is obviously classically trained - I've enjoyed the food here more than some Michelin starred restaurants that I've eaten in. Keep it up

Cycled here from Retford for breakfast on a Sunday morning and we weren't disappointed. The breakfasts are to die for with the homemade hash browns topping it off! Staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Left with some fresh bread and a sausage roll... which were consumed later in the day and were delicious! We chose this place for our celebration because it is relaxed, safe for children and serves good food. It did not disappoint; everyone from three to seventy was accommodated with courtesy and good humour. A party of eleven is difficult to serve but the staff accomplished it with aplomb and served us a memorable meal. The planes kept the children amused between courses. Thanks to you all.

We met my son for lunch. The food was outstanding. My sea bass with patatas bravas was perfectly cooked and very tasty. My wife had Fish and Chips and they were excellent. Well worth a visit.

Set at an airfield as you walk in it may seem a litle basic but put that aside and enjoy

Our little boy loves planes so it’s a perfect place for us to sit have a coffee and some breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning. The airfield is usually relatively busy when we go.

Was excited to visit Apron as had heard a lot about it. It did not disappoint. It is a lovely room, fun pictures, comfortable and spacious. I would have happily eaten anything on the menu. All looked delicious. The bread and butter was very nice. I had salmon with crushed potato and beans for main. It was wonderful. All my companions loved their meals too. The desserts were fantastic. Chocolate moose cake, banana bread and a fat rascal scone. Go if you can!

Called on Friday lunch managed to get a table will book next time the food is excellent did not have to wait long although the place was very busy would recommend the cod and chips, have been for the full English in the past enjoyed every mouthful ,the bread they bake is wonderful.

Was taken here for lunch by family who have eaten here a few times. Very pleasant lunch in an unusual environment but nice just the same. The dishes were very well presented and tasty and the cakes were superb! We bought they own bread to take home as it was incredible.....really was!

Had not reviewed this lovely restaurant but really could not ignore it any more, after reading others. Had a real surprise when arriving at this Airport Restaurant to see such an array of really beautiful Breads, Croissants both Almond and plain, and the most amazing Sour dough breads I think I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Do not get to Retford that often but will have to make a regular special journey just to visit this well equipped and tastefully decorated restaurant. Thank you staff for making a visit such a pleasure. By the way the breakfast was good as well

We visited this restaurant after it was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. The breakfast was excellent and it has a fantastic view of the airfield which was a pleasant bonus. I have since returned for lunch which was also very nice

Do not drive past this beautiful restaurant which calls itself a cafe, at Retford (Gamston) airport. The food is very special and freshly prepared and delicious. the service is very good. Well worth a visit. Closed on Mondays. Worthwhile booking ahead to make sure that you get a seat.

Arriving at 11am on a Sunday bike ride with friends, we usually drop into this cafe as the food is pretty good and the ride out from Lincoln is very enjoyable. Arriving at The Apron today we were bruskly told we could not sit inside as “we are setting up for lunch. You can sit outside”

5 very unhappy cyclists, we all rode over to the Apron cafe this morning hoping for a nice coffee and food after a lovely sunny ride, however upon walking in to the cafe and finding a table to sit at near the counter we were Rudely told by the Stuck up waitress that we are no longer doing the breakfast menu so you will have to sit outside if you want anything !! This was at 11.07am, she had no idea what we wanted to order and never even gave us a chance, so we put our helmets and gloves back on and went to an excellent cafe on Bridge st in Retford called Cafe Roubaix where the food and service couldn’t have been better, so if your a cyclist I would forget the snobs at The Apron and go to Cafe Roubaix !!

this is a surprise finding at the privately owned Gamston Aerodrome which is open to all comers. It is closed on Mondays. the food is freshly prepared from a very good menu and is high quality as is the service. I understand that Sunday lunch is excellent but you do need to book.

We have been here several times and the food is always interesting and well prepared and presented. Also good sized portions!We ordered a starter and main. All were good with the fried cod very large although I thought the batter a little pale. My smoked haddock with poached above and crushed new potatoes below was very tasty.The cheese was local and well presented with lots of trimmings such as walnuts, chutney, apricots, grapes, celery and home made biscuits and bread.We had booked a table for lunch on Friday but it was not too busy and new customers arrived well after 2pm.The red wine we selected was served very warm but they put the bottle in a cooler and that resolved the problem.It does feel a little soulless. The atmosphere feels more cafe than restaurant although the staff are competent and friendly.

Went for Sunday lunch with my daughter and granddaughter and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food . The pre lunch breads and nibbles were absolutely delicous and reassured us we had made the right decision to come for lunch. The main course of roast lamb and all the trimmings was faultless as was the frangipan dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the friendly atmosphere and my granddaughter enjoyed looking at the aeroplanes. Will definitely return.

Nice location with view over the small airfield. Not sure if was a exceptional busy day or lack of staff, but many tables required to be cleared of previous customers plates/ teapots etc. Menu looked good but was informed of slight changes and missing items before ordering. Will give it average for now as i had sandwich that was not served as written in menu. Brioche breads had run out (as informed) but avocardo was missing ..always will try again another time, too many good reviews to expect average review from myself.

Me and my family have visited The Apron over ten times for food and it has always been great, although I have found that when me and my partner visit for food separately we get treated very differently due to our age. I think because the cafe has an older audience due to the food, you get very looked down on and treated not as well as the other paying customers due to being early 20's. For example, not being offered any bread, main meals coming out and looking very different to next doors table of the same meal, taking extra long to get served. So overall fab food, but we defiantly think twice before going again as this has happened on several occasions.

Always meant to try this place, but wish I hadn't! After perusing the menu fora few moments I decided on the salmon quiche with warm jersey royals, it was then my wife pointed to the counter where the quiche was sat, uncovered and attracting flies! I mentioned this to the waitress and was informed that the cook wouldn't cover it as he thought it made the food go soggy? All the other delicious looking pastries were on show also without a cover or sneeze guard. As I was hungry I did order a sandwich, which was very nice, but the thought of the flies made me feel sick

A small contemporary restaurant overlooking the airfield. You need to book on a Sunday as it gets very busy. Wonderful food with really pleasant service at very reasonable cost.

This is a very smart little restaurant with a contemporary style. A very good menu choice to suit all tastes and a panoramic view of the airfield. Service was relaxed and very pleasant. Lunches don't get much better than this ! It all seemed freshly cooked and all the family enjoyed their dishes .

We had breakfast here ahead of my Son's flying lesson. We all had the Bacon Sandwich which was very nice on home made chunky sourdough bread. The service was very good and the staff are friendly. My husband and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch here recently and weren't disappointed. Some of the tastiest food I have had in a long while. We had the Fish and Chips and they were sublime. The setting is relaxed and the staff were incredibly helpful. We left also with a very tasty great linseed sourdough for home :)We will soon return and no doubt become regulars :)

Been several times for breakfast. Very nice ambience, able to see the activity on the airport, planes taking off & landing. Food very good also, very well prepared & presented. Is perhaps a little pricey.

Lovely, clean cafe serving great tea and scones. We even stayed for a celebratory glass of wine. Highly recommend after a flight or viewing.
