Wonderful new find, excellent vegan and vegetarian food. I had dauphinois potatoes with huge fresh porcini mushrooms, my partner had beetroot wellington, both excellent. Wonderful dark beer, very friendly service and welcoming atmosphere, what’s not to like. Highly recommended.

Amazing bar for LGBTQ community and I felt really comfortable with my friends, but how we hated the food it was very nice to look at but tasted of fried oil and not much else. The dessert were nice because of the sugar inside but the small plates were too expensive and would never eat here again.

I really like it when new places start to do vegan food, unfortunately I was excited to eat at this place and their new Vegan dishes, all I tasted was oily and bland food which looks pretty but tastes of nothing in reality, which is extremely sad because they give vegan food a bad name, I am a vegan enthusiast and have eaten vegan food at many places but this was one of the biggest disappointments. extremely disappointed and very expensive for what it is. I would say definitely avoid and much better places in London for Vegan food. Sad

During our first trip to the UK this last March, my wife and I were exceptionally busy taking in as much scenery and culture as we could possibly manage. As such, it was decidedly difficult to keep a strict inventory of every meal we ate at every pub we visited, though I can say that we did not visit a single one that was anything short of impressive.

I had the roasted Porcini mushrooms with dauphinoise potatoes and the potatoes were crispy and the mushrooms were tender and in a great sauce. The pineapple and pistachio dessert was delicious too, all very natural and healthy and pretty decent value. We are so lucky to have an LGBTIQ+ space like this in London. Much more than a pub, The Apple Tree went out of their way to help us celebrate the 2nd Birthday of our shelter. Staff instantly became part of our crew & we felt right at home all day. A real community space. Practically - we needed a private, sober party.. not easy to do in a busy pub! They made it work, with a beautiful cosy room upstairs & a non-alcoholic drinks reception. The food we ordered was delicious & the perfect amount was suggested for our guestlist. Tech was easy & staff were on hand to help with that also. Beautiful rooms upstairs, big & small to choose from. Thankyou so much to everyone who helped us. Special thanks to Dot who is just completely lovely & made everything a total breeze. Will definitely be back ASAP.

The Apple Tree provides London with resources that are scarce - LGBT friendly, performance spaces, dog-friendly, and a wide selection of cheap and good quality drinks (spirits, wines, softs). Given its central location it is well worth supporting. My only caveat is the kitchen service. While I prefer to eat plants over animals, the cooking quality of most of the items I've tried - and the serving times - could be improved. It seems like an attainable goal, so hopefully they will get there. For the record I tried the following: Mushroom croquettes: DELICIOUS Patatas Bravas: did exactly what it said on the box Aubergine Parmigiana - disappointing, it needs a much richer tomato sauce. I can make better at home Cobnut curry - lukewarm and bland Rainbow Sliders - average for the price. Not sure if I'd prefer one bigger burger for cheaper. I will 10/10 return here for drinks, shows, and snacks. For a full dinner I might try somewhere else for now.

This local used to serve really good vegan burgers, mac and cheese and potato fries, the food alone justified a visit. The Apple Tree has stayed mostly vegan & veggie, which is nice, but disappointingly they're now cooking meat like any chain pub, which suggests they've sold out any ethics on environmental & animal care (saying it's well sourced meat isn't vegan or ethical.) Though there are a couple of OK dishes the new menu is a bit all over the place, too fussy and pretentious for pub grub, the old burger / pasta / potato menu was so much more tasty. Bring it back!

My friend and I lunched here at 12.30 p.m. on Tuesday 12th September 2017. We sat at a table, but no one came to us, so we went to the bar. The barmaid was busy and said that another person would be along in a minute. Some three minutes later, he took our order. There was no soup available, so we opted for mains straight away. My friend thought his "Farm-assured chicken and Ayshire dry-cured bacon" sandwich good. My beef and ale pie was circular and of small diameter, with a thick crust and an ungenerous portion of meat with some potato or possibly carrot cubes in it (a trick to economise on meat). On the other hand, the chips were nice and the vegetables included sauteed parsnip, which was enterprising (even if left-overs from Sunday perhaps). The triple choc. brownies appeared to be filled with pieces of biscuit, but the portion was generous. It came with mint chocolate ice cream, which was fine. There was no hot choc. sauce as advertised, just two halves of strawberry. When it came to coffee time, we found out why. We asked for two americanos with milk and was told that there was no milk. This is a Greene King pub. and on this experience it is easy to see why the share price has sunk so low. I wonder whether the C.E.O. of Greene King ever actually visits any of his pubs incognito.

I've just read some of the reviews and quite frankly I'm annoyed, I was in this pub on the day in question, a group of people arrived without announcing themselves, it was a very busy Friday , and when they did make themselves known were treated very well. They were seated upstairs , and from what I saw and heard there was a problem with some of there orders , but not to the extent that they've described , and to call the staff rude and lazy is a vast exaggeration it seemed to be started by one woman who hell bent on causing a scene, and get away without paying. I've visited this pub on quite a few occasions , and have only ever been treated properly, and with curtesy. These people say they wil never return , well as far as I'm concerned that's a bonus. By the way I'm not family, just someone trying to bring a bit of balance . I like this place, and to read all this negative s••t is untrue , and unfair.

If I was able to give half a mark I would!I went for lunch with a group of about 24 people and didn't receive my food for 1 hour and 12 mins. The service was extremely poor and there was no apology or urgency to accompany the lack of customer service! We had pre-booked our lunch in good enough time and a copy of the orders was handed in to the manager an hour before we arrived, yet It took from about 1:15pm until 2:12pm for the food to come out, in intervals - some of which was burnt and not even hot.I was the last person to receive my food and I only got it because I had to go downstairs to interrupt the staff chatting and rolling a cigarette to ask where it was.Don't waste your timeI won't be eating here again!

The service is absolutely disgraceful. I organised a lunch for 20+ people and enquired on their ability to supply food to this number at least 2 weeks in advance. They were handed over pre-ordered requests days in advance of the lunch and an hour before a hand delivered copy was supplied to the manager in person. When we arrived no one showed us to our seats or greeted us and we had to ask where our seats were located. We had absolutely no customer service, in return we were given a very rude and dishevelled member of staff who came up every 20 mins to shout our order and hand us luke warm/burnt food. I could not believe how terrible the service was and this has to be the worse service I have ever witnessed and received at an establishment. They were not apologetic when giving us our food with the last order came out of the kitchen at an incredible 1 hr and 15 mins later. I will NEVER eat here again and discourage anyone contemplating on eating here with a large group to re-consider, everything about the experience was appalling. Head office needs to step in or shut the establishment down if they can't monitor how their pub is being run.

We pre booked a lunch for 24 people four days before the event and sent a detailed spreadsheet of each order on email. The spreadsheet was then also hand delivered to the manager an hour before we arrived for lunch. The first meal came out after a thirty minute wait. It was burnt and had to be sent back. The rest came out two by two over the course of the next 50 minutes and most were cold. There was no prior warning that the kitchen staff were struggling to cook our meals. There was also only one man bringing our meals out and he was incredibly rude and took a break to roll a cigarette while we were still waiting for food. The last meal was finally brought out after 1 hour and 5 minutes a whole 20 minutes after the replacement for the one that had been sent back. Honestly, do not bother with this pub. Some of hour group waited over an hour for a particularly underwhelming meal. Never again!!

They have a good selection of the usual pub dishes. The Hunter's chicken was good. I've been going to this pub for a few years now as it is very close to work. It is a nice building and drinks and food (very standard pub food) were always priced reasonably.Probably over a year ago the pub received a make over and they kept charging reasonably for their food and drink but some time between spring and summer this year, their prices started to go up and up. The problem is, there is a sister pup called Lucas Arms just about 15 minutes away where you will find the same menu for food and drink but with much lower prices. For example a bottle of house wine that costs £7.99 at the Lucas Arms you will pay nearly £10 more at the Apple tree.I asked the staff why the difference in price and they told me that the Apple tree is a premium pup. It is terrible lack of respect with its customers and I wouldn't go back there even if they lower their prices. The only thing premium about it is their price.

Sadly it is not possible to award zero stars. Disgraceful behaviour from the drunken yob of a landlord last night. Have been going to this pub for years with colleagues and called to ask if we could bring a few babies for a reunion meet up with old friends this evening. Had been told it was fine but were then thrown out for bringing kids despite the pub being half empty and well before 8pm. The landlord was rude, surly, and was so drunk he was slurring his words. The poor bar staff were shocked and apologetic at his behaviour toward his loyal customers. As we were politely leaving he started ranting and becoming quite threatening, blowing smoke over two of the babies who had been taken outside, before claiming that it was our fault that he was doing so, for bringing them to his "boozer"; several of us had to politely but firmly suggest that he backed down and step away from the children. This is not the first time that he has been seen to behave badly. Our group has had to stop him from actually hitting other customers in the past after he ripped his own shirt open and launched himself at an unsuspecting customer. Quite an unpleasant sight. A landlord should be welcoming and friendly. Not drunk, abusive and violent! An absolutely foul man who is clearly drinking too much to run a pub. Certainly won't ever be going back while Greene King allow this thug to remain perched upon his bar stool. A shame after so many years that he would treat regulars in this way.Fortunately there are many other nice and welcoming pubs in the area who love kids and adults alike, so despite the landlord at The (Bad) Apple Tree our evening was saved!

I initially visited the apple tree around 6 months ago on a freinds reccomendation and I have to admit I was very sceptical before my visit because of some bad reviews I read on other sites, but when I looked closely I saw that the vast majority of those were over 5 years old so I decided to give it a go, the staff there are extremely helpful and freindly, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Their burgers are excelent and great value for money and there is also a deal on thursdays for a sharing platter and a bottle of wine for £12.50 which is unmatched in the area, there is a warm and relaxed atmosphere about the place that I feel anyone would be comfortable with and a real mix of customers from office workers to builders to postman and even a few local residents. The cask range is constantly evolving and changes every few weeks and the cocktail and food menus also changes roughly every 3 months so there is always a new reason to go down and check the place out, right now mojitos feature prominantly in their cocktail list at 2 for £6 which is incredible value. On my last visit the manager there told me they would be closing from the 8th to the 19th of next month while they have some work done and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the place and will definitely be going down on the 19th to have a look and I would thoroughly reccomend that you do the same.

I visit the area a couple of times a year and was pointed to this pub by a local twitter expert who listed it as one of their top five in the area. The pub is located at the bottom of Mount Pleasant hill. When I entered it was quite busy as they do a deli deal that offers lunch and a drink for £6 which is obviously popular with the mainly office staff in the area. There were two bar staff serving a young man, and a slightly smaller woman - they were really friendly and chatty and made me feel like a long lost friend, rather than the distant impersonal service I am used to in London pubs. Drinks were competitively priced, a not bad wine list and Peroni on draft.I tried the food and devoured a delicious slice of Gammon Egg and chips which was served pretty quickly and efficiently and was cooked to perfection - given it was pretty busy at lunchtime I thought it would take longer to serve - it didn't.All in all a great venue, the other half loved the cocktails as well - a really pleasant way to relax in the evening and I have to agree with the pub fans, it is one of the best in WC1.

There is a good wine list with bottles starting at a really good £9. We settled for a bottle of decent Sauvignon Blanc which was chilled perfectly. Studying the menu we noticed that they do a really good sandwich and chips with a pint for £6 which is great value. We tried the Yorkshire Pudding wrap with chips and gravy which was delicious and my missus had a steak which was cooked perfectly and was reasonably priced. The pub has a good mixture of office staff, posties, locals and workmen, a really nice warm atmosphere, and a great selection of drinks.Definitely one to recommend.

Best fish and chips in the area by a mile. You can take the word of a fat man from south east London like me at its face value!
