The Apple Pie in South Lakeland

The Apple Pie Cafe and Bakery is an essential part of any visit to Ambleside. The staff in both the Cafe and the Bakery shop are friendly and helpful . After breakfast in the cafe we went to the shop to buy apple pie slices for afternoon tea .

So much to choose from but eventually took the bath buns. Having been to bath and had theirs, I think these were even better. So light and soft. A follow up visit for our homeward journey is a must.

The staff at the Apple Pie Café are lovely - friendly, helpful and welcoming both to me and my soggy labrador. Having been several times in the past I have always found it to be fairly consistent but I was really disappointed this time. I ordered a pot of tea and scone - at just under £8 it was quite a lot more than I usually pay at home so my expectations were high. The scone looked quite nice but it really failed to deliver - slightly dry, very little fruit, More style than substance. The jam 0 bit of a misnomer - paste would have been more accurate - a sugary, sticky, claggy mixture that didn't have any discernable fruit in it. It was a real shame and unfortunately such a poor experience I doubt very much whether I would visit again - far too expensive for something so mediocre.

We called for an early lunch. Husband had the Cumberland sandwich it was excellent I had the steak sandwich which was good (steak a little bit chewy). We will definitely go vack and maybe try the breakfast

We would like to thank the wonderful staff who were working on Sunday 29th October 23. Unfortunately while I was at the counter my younger daughter became unwell and fainted. The hardworking staff could not have reacted quicker. They were wonderful. My daughter was soon ok again after being given a flapjack and water by the staff. We went back yesterday to buy lots of flapjacks, pasties and more of the fabulous apple pie. We can highly recommend all of the fabulous food we bought and look forward to returning every time we visit the lakes.

Called in for a brew and cake busy place coffee was very nice but was very disappointed with paying £3.90 for the worlds smallest piece of flapjack very over priced felt ripped off😟

Very friendly staff who make you feel very welcome. Food is ok for the price you pay but nothing spectacular.

Amazing food we had bean burger, falafel wrap, bacon brie and cranberry toasty and a steak baguette. The food was all lovely especially my toasty and the falafel. We asked for steak baguette with no mustard mayo and received normal mayo instead so our fault. The steak was so plentiful my little brother didn't realise until he had nearly finished. Exceptional mains delicious desserts would seriously recommend the vanilla slice and winter warmer spiced apple juice and gin. Lovely visit have been before and sure will be back again soon.

Every time my wife and I go to the Lakes we have to go to the Apple Pie cafe in Ambleside. We last went in September. I had the Plain Apple Pie with English Lakes Vanilla Ice Cream, which was very tasty. My wife had the Mixed Spice and Sultana Apple Pie with the same ice cream. She was pleased with her selection. The service was quick and there is a good vibe in the cafe.

What a find. Had no previous knowledge of this beautiful cafe but was certainly impressed. The food was excellent but the main thing that stood out was the friendliness and helpful staff. All the staff are young and look very happy in their work which made the whole atmosphere and experience such a pleasure. Thank you to all 😊

Came in today noticed everywhere queue here exit here this side only one to go counter to order ?? My lord it's a cafe and not the best for me. Ordered scone and tea hubby ordered cappuccino and donut. Tea came in cup with bag in no teapot. Scone was ok but not warmed nothing special. Small very small cup cappucino docnut was nice to be fair. Would I go back no for 16 pound had alot better in other cafes.

We queued in the morning to have breakfast and it did not disappoint! Great portions from local suppliers and the atmosphere was lovely too. Dog friendly which is always a plus!

The Apple Pie Cafe has caught my eye a few times as I've passed through Ambleside, so, since I was looking for afternoon tea during a Lake District visit recently, I decided it was time to try it out. And sure enough, at the top of their menu is "Our Famous Apple Pie", so I had to give that a go. It comes either plain or with mixed spice and sultanas, so I picked the latter as sounding more interesting. All I can say is... believe the hype. This was quite possibly THE best apple pie I have ever tasted. The pastry (not too much of it) was very light and crumbly and dusted with sugar, the apples (Bramley) were utterly delicious and tangy, and the spices and sultanas just sent it even further beyond the next level and gave it a wonderfully Christmassy taste. Guess where I'll be eating again when I next visit the Lake District in December?? (And for anyone who's interested, the cafe also runs a B&B and self-catering accommodation, which I haven't tried, but would definitely be willing to give them a go in the future.)

Probably the best Eccles cake I’ve ever had! Crunchy sugar topping, layers of crisp, flaky pastry and soft, succulent raisins. Really nice Bath. Buns too.

Very excellent lunch, everything was better than I can do at home. The quiche was superb. Salads delicious, as was the open sandwich with tomato chutney. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. All in all lovely.

Trip to the Lakes, we always visit Ambleside and have at least two visits to Apple Pie, fantastic food and drinks especially the cakes and at reasonable prices

Friendly and attentive service. Delicious apple pies, great crust and generous filling. A good place to refuel after visiting the Stock Ghyll falls nearby and wandering thru pretty Ambleside.
