A lovely village pub with an excellent kitchen and very friendly staff. In spite of being very busy our waiter took the time to explain the Christmas cracker joke that we didn’t get!

This is now officially our go to for a Sunday roast. Excellent quality food, and great staff, and yes I am more than happy to pay that little extra for this. The roast chicken was tender and moist, and the roast beef was cooked perfectly. You do need to book as its very popular. Hopefully the Anglesey won't do what many other pubs have done, and mess around with what is a clearly a winning formula.

Whatever you do Do Not order the soup and Welsh rarebit! It must have been highly embarrassing for the waitress to serve such miniscule portions! We received a very small slice of Welsh rarebit and about a tablespoon of soup for £11. When we pointed this out to the waitress she didn't question it, knowing herself how awful it was, and eventually came back with another small bowl each. What we had was very tasty, I couldn't fault that but there was barely enough for a small child! I don't know what the were thinking to serve such a mean amount.

We popped in for a bit of lunch after walking up to see the Halnaker windmill . The staff were very friendly ,the setting comfortable but then came our lunch. We ordered the chickpea and vegetable soup with welsh rarebit. The soup came out in a snack bowl only 1/3rd full and was gone in 4 small mouthfuls!! With one piece of cheese on sour bread . For 2 soup luches and 2 coffees the bill came to over £30 which we wouldn't mind if we had a decent size portion. We will ill not be going there again for food.

i stopped for lunch after a walk at the tree tunnel in Boxgrove, 10 minutes away from Chichester center: diverse menu, great quality food well cooked, nice pub ambiance, dog friendly…excellent all around and I highly recommend it. The small pieces of pork belly for appetizers were perfect as well as the onion soup; wish they had not run out of the salt caramel dessert that sounded delicious. A place to return to.

We booked here for a special family occasion, my mother in laws 80th birthday. We were a large group of 18 and everything ran so smoothly, thank you! All staff were very accommodating to our needs (putting balloons and cake up, one special dietary requirements) nothing was too much trouble at all. All meals were served together and hot, not an easy task for such a large table! We’ll be back for sure. Thank you so very much for being part of this day, you did a fabulous job.

I feel slightly bad writing this review, but I do so in the hope that it maintains its standards, as the previous two occasions we’ve been with family have been utterly incredible. I’ve also written past reviews and gave them top marks. This time felt a little different. It felt as though things were slipping which, when it costs as much as it does for essentially good pub food, needs mentioning. The service, although polite, was so slow. With two small hungry children this became an issue. But most regrettably, hairs in food. One at the bottom of a pile of mash (not ours, was deep down and the wrong colour!) and another in the vanilla ice cream. I’m not sure it would put us off coming back, but maybe think twice about returning for a bit. Other than that the food was immense. The beef short rib to die for!

I used to visit the Anglesey years ago with my parents, when it was just a pub that did food. It did the very best steaks in the area and was known for this. Now it has had a refurb, and how pleased I was to see that so much of the old character remains, but they have done amazing things with it! Comfortable seating and lovely colours now mix with the old wooden dresser from years ago. The welcome was warm, the barman was friendly, and the food was brilliant. Pub located in village of Halnaker, around 15 minutes drive from Chichester. Large car park. Extensive menu of largely traditional British dishes. Really traditional/authentic English pub with good selection of local beers. Restaurant is a nice room to one side and back of the pub and there is a great outdoor seating area under a huge stretch tent. Very welcoming and excellent attentive service throughout meal. Some great Bar snacks which you can also have as starters. Crispy belly of pork with a spicy apple sauce was delicious as was a melt in mouth Scotch Egg. Baked Camembert With Rosemary and Blackberries also very good served with Garlic Sour Dough bread. Beef and Ale Pie/parcel full of tender beef in a delicate short crust pastry with an unctuous rich gravy. Chicken Schnitzel also tender and substantial. Very good and reasonable priced wine list with some decent reds in particularly. Great pub restaurant food well worth a visit.

Me and a group of friends decided to go out to celebrate a birthday and wanted a meal followed by some drinks. We thought the Anglesey arms would be fitting as it has both a pub as well as a separated side to a restaurant that is amazingly well kept! And they also provide options for vegetarians as well as vegans which separates them from any other surrounding attractions! The food was outstanding and extremely well presented, props to the kitchen! I cannot wait to return with more people and enjoy the service as well! Great atmosphere for drinks. I'd heard the food is hit or miss so deciced to try it with friends. One really enjoyed their food, it was fish and was cooked there. One said their dish was OK, but was a bit of a "ping" meal. However, they were given dried up vegetables with it and when they commented on the fact they looked like they'd been under a heat lamp, instead of getting some fresh veg, the waiter just said they wouldn't charge him for the pint he just ordered, so he still had veg that was dry and going brown at the edges. The third person said that on reflection it was the actually the worst pub meal that they had ever had and used words like "vile".So in conclusion hit or miss. From the other comments it looks like if you choose something they have to cook from scratch then you should have a better meal..... if it doesn't say homemade, then it isn't. I will happily drink here, which is why I gave it 2 stars.

We decided to eat here with friends as they had heard good thingsAll I can say is how can it be so wrong…..We ordered main courses……2 x Pies 1 x Chicken Schnitzel ….and 1x lamb rump … special!!!!Basically the pies had been frozen, and were congealed….the chicken was disgusting and every mouthful of the lamb special was gristle……We made the staff aware regarding the lamb and they said they would not charge for any of the main courses!!!!!That is not the answer….the chef needs to be aware …apparently he was not happy with the lamb delivered…….so he should not have served it ……We ordered cheeseboard and a nice bottle of red to enjoy….The cheeseboard had been thrown onto a slate with a mish-mash of crackers cheese figs and hazelnuts ….. The cheeses were nothing special…. Supermarket normalWhilst eating the cheeses and enjoying the wine the woman who we had supposed to be restaurant manager appeared with a very big dog on a very big chain ….. which clambered over a person on the next table (presumably her partner)This is soooo not acceptable

After being recommended the newly refurbished Anglesey Arms numerous times we managed to get booked in for a Sunday Roast. We were booked for 5pm and feared the menu may be limited due to the time. However we weren’t disappointed! Our group of 3 all had different starters from the menu. All were exceptional, beautifully presented but even tastier! Luckily our friend let us share his Southern chicken dish- yummy! Our roasts were absolutely beautiful, spot on! Great portions, so tasty and the side of extra gravy we requested was out of this world to accompany our perfectly cooked roast Beef.We all ordered extra sides ( that we didn’t need! But couldn’t resist)We finished with deserts, I was desperate to try the cheese board which had been recommended by numerous people but sadly didn’t have anyone to share with. The waitress recommended the sticky toffee pudding, a dish that none of us would normally chose, but wow it didn’t disappoint! Our visit was just perfect, the food was the best we have all had for a very long time and we are all big foodies. Our waitress and the service was perfect, sadly can’t name her, but thanks for her great service. The team is clearly extremely well managed and ran so smoothly. My only criticism was we wish we’d managed to come sooner, we are already planning our next visit! This great Pub is just what Chichester needs!

My wife had an over cooked pesto salmon with no taste of pesto. My burger was ok. We ordered the cheese board. This was priced at £20 pounds. This was a complete waste of money. The cheese was poor quality. Something you would get from a selection box. When we left and walked past the staff. No one acknowledged us leaving. Yet they were all stood around. I’ve been a regular of the Anglesey for many years. It has recently changed hands and undergone a full refurb. I have to say, I love the new decor whilst also liking the fact that they haven’t changed the layout. Personal opinion but I really don’t like it when pubs are completely gutted and changed. They are part of history. I have to say, I was a little apprehensive as I got the impression (wrongly) from others that this had really become a ‘food’ pub. The pub always thrived on its diners but one side of the pub always welcomed those just wanting a drink. I was there with my family for a meal but we also wanted to enjoy a few drinks before we ate without any pressure to leave the table. How wrong the rumours were, we were able to enjoy a few sociable drinks as a family in the front bar (whilst others comfortably dined around us) and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Dan (bar manager?) was great and kept us informed as to when we could go to our designated table for our meal and also informed us we could stay where we were if preferred. I was impressed with the service. Once we moved through, the service was excellent, fabulous menu and speedy service. The whole party enjoyed every part of the food and we had a lot of different meals ordered (roasts/steak/burgers) everything arrived together. I often find if some order Sunday roasts and some order ‘off’ the roast menu that there can be issues with timeliness but there were no concerns! We all had a great experience. I knew it was a dog friendly place but wish I’d known dogs could go in all parts of the pub, I left my dog at home as we were eating but if I’d known she was welcome in the dining area I would’ve stayed a lot longer!! Overall a great afternoon and I can’t wait to get back.

Pulled beef burger! What a cop out. Cook a lump of beef all day then scrape some of it off with a fork and shove it in a roll and call it a burger! Clearly the chef has never seen a gourmet burger made or even eaten one. Sure making good burgers is difficult,so if you can’t do it properly, don’t have it on the menu. A rare roast beef sandwich would be better. Great starters on the menu. Would be good to have something like a chicken baguette on the menu. Having said all this, it’s a very nice friendly pub. Well refurbished with the advantage of large car park and garden area, part of the latter being sheltered. Separate bar and restaurant, good range of drinks and much above average choice of wines by the glass, not just the usual suspects. Excellent friendly greeting by the manager chappy and the lady servers continued this theme. Good menu choice and a fresh fish special, red snapper on our visit which my wife enjoyed. She was rather bemused by her margarita cocktail as this looked and tasted of tomato juice (I had to confirm with a sip) and our most pleasant lady server was able to rectify this so well dealt with, some of the team are probably quite new. My one gripe, a personal one I guess , was the piped pop music fairly intrusive and not I would have thought too suited to the generally more mature clientele of the lunchtime session. Overall though good value for this area.

We just happened to pass the Anglesey Arms and we were so pleased we decided to stop here. Although it was 2.30pm, we were warmly welcomed. Having both chosen the fish and chips, we only had a short wait before we were presented with the most delicious fish and chips we have had in a very long time. The batter was so light and crispy that I ate every bit, along with the tender fish. The chips were also hot and tasty. I was full but my husband managed a chocolate dessert, which he also enjoyed. So we arrived, around 3.30pm on a Sunday, so pretty late for a roast, but nevertheless, all good. We asked if the roast was still available which it was.All ordered, all good. Apart from the wait time.We sat at a table outside, then decided to move to the table next to us (under the shade) told a member of staff who said "no worries" - starters came out... To the wrong table, had to call for them to come to the new table, no real problem, starters eaten, all good. Great food. After an hour one of the staff came out & asked if we were waiting on food & proceeded read our order to us & asked if we were on a different table when we ordered & that had aparently confused the kitchen?! The waiter kindly said, no problem, they're plating your food up now.... 20 minutes later the food finally arrives. No complaints there apart from the stingy portion of veg. Some boiled carrots, red cabbage & 1, yes 1 piece of tender stem broccoli between 2... Even the waitress seemed embarrassed about this & got us another portion of veg... Which arrived when we were about to finish the meal. Wasn't the busiest time, perhaps the chef was already looking to clean down & go home! What made it slightly worse was there was other tables around us making similar complaints about the wait time. Overall an OK experience, drinks were great, there was just a very apparent lack of communication between the staff, hopefully this will get better as they've just reopened under new management.

Popped by last night for a drink in the garden which has been enhanced with more seating area ( some undercover which is brilliant idea!) Staff friendly and welcoming - decor inside too has been enhanced without taking away the traditional feel with those lovely floor boards and flagstones. Beautiful fresh flowers adorned many surfaces . Finally the food was fab! - delicious with wide selection and reasonable. Thank you team and all the best . We will certainly be visiting again.

Under new ownership - and what an amazing transformation of this once sad pub.I haven’t visited for a couple of years as it was tired and the food was average. But now the whole pub has been refurbished with beautiful details, plus the garden is very smart with an undercover area.To add to this my husband and I ate there, we enjoyed the olives and prawns for starters which were amazing, followed by the roast beef with the most amazing onion gravy. Then to top it all off we finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was divine and my husband loved the flapjack crumble. There was an amazing choice of beers and wines too.A once dreary pub now brought back to life. Our new local for sure!!!!

It’s been years that this lovely pub has looked unloved, but it’s had a much needed clean up, walls painted, windows cleaned etc etc. Thank goodness. The steak and ale pie with a top and bottom was excellent. Keep it up. The ribeye steak could have been better. Very nice desert.A friendly welcome that’s been missing for many years. Staff excellent. The pub suffers from too small a bar area making it difficult to pop in for a pint. They should have knocked through to the restaurant area (instead of two doors) and had a semi circle bar with more stools and more casual tables. In fact even now more and smaller tables in the bar area would allow more than two parties to sit down. Sitting in the dining area defeats the point of going to a pub. The dining area is big enough to split it into formal dining and pub dining. Outside has been improved but it’s rather odd to have new tables seating 10 or more people. Doesn’t make it easy for a party of 4. Finally, it needs 4 or so tables with umbrellas outside the front door like many other pubs do. It makes it much more welcoming and allows you to watch the amazing cars drive by on their way to Goodwood. It’s great to have this pub back, but the licensee or owner needs to understand what pub goers want. Still work to do.

It was busy but we had our drinks served from bar to table within five minutes. The waiting staff were simply awesome going about at full speed, hence our food arrived hot, fresh & delicious. Best of all the atmosphere was just lovely. Thank you Angelsey Arms, we'll be back asap.

Just had my 50th birthday here. Considering how difficult it is to remain compliant, this pub managed it. Spaces between tables, staff masked, only drink with food. Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place to host a birthday party that keeps within the rules look no further. Highly recommend. As an aside, there were people who moaned that we had a cake and I was sung happy birthday by my kids. But there’s people who will moan about anything for the sake of moaning. Funny how they did it anonymously and didn’t approach me but then cowardly moaning would appear to be the norm for people who need to get a life especially in these difficult times. I run a local company and want to help other local businesses. Don’t moan let’s get behind our community and support each other

As a local who has tried to positively support the local pub throughout these difficult times along with new management coming in. unfortunately today I have come away feeling disappointed at the level of service I and my family received. We had booked a 2pm slot for a Sunday roast, and had explained we would have a young baby so would require space for a pushchair. When we arrived the pub was extremely busy and a 50th birthday gathering was being hosted ( unsure if this was within the current COVID Tier 2 guidelines). The lady behind the bar wasn’t even sure about our booking, and told us to find a table around the back. To do this we had to make our way through an extremely slim area where the 50th gathering was taking place.? Once we found a table which had a piece of paper with our names on It anyway we happily took a seat. The lady came out and was friendly apologising for the coldness in the room, and kindly took our drinks orders. Our drinks came, with one being forgotten but again they apologised and addressed this immediately. They also happily replaced a drink that was accidentally spilled. The issue came when the log burner that we were directly next too started to smoke profusely and caused a lot of smoke throughout the area we were sat in. There were other people in the same area that were also Negatively affected by this. The lady came and suggested opening the patio door of which was jammed, but eventually she managed to open and try to dispel the smoke coming from the fire. After 5 minutes, the smoke dispersed out of the door and due to me and my partner being cold along with other pub goers I closed the door. However for the next 1 hour this proved a constant cycle of the log burner smoking profusely and resulting in re-opening the doors and then the windows and my newborn baby along with my household family members having sore eyes and clothes smelling significantly of smoke, it also caused distress to the our baby as she was cold from all the doors and windows having to be opened along with having to breathe in a room full of smoke. Our food came and as usual it was very nice, and no complaints with regards to this. My issue comes when it came for me to pay and I asked if we could not be charged for the drinks because of the poor environment we had Encountered throughout trying to enjoy a family meal. The pub music was loud and we could barely hear each other at our table, along with effectively being smoked out by a faulty log burner, then having to be frozen due to having no option but to have The windows and doors open because we would have been smoked to death if these hadn’t been open, And all of this caused our little one to be unsettled and distressed. This caused us to rush our meals and not enjoy our experience. When going to pay I asked if we could not be charged for the drinks as some form of compensation for the poor experience we had received. The lady at the bar was rude and not sympathetic to the situation, stating that why didn’t we ask to move, we have already moved up one table and due to the 50th birthday gathering there was no room available for us to sit anywhere else?! She also stated She did not have the authority to not charge for the drinks? She showed no understanding or empathy and clearly was not interested in The Safety issue with the fire. She reluctantly took off the charge for the soft drinks - 2 cokes and a water? And did not apologise once? The alcoholic drinks and roast dinners were still charged for.Having got home we have all had to wash our clothes as we all smelt heavily of smoke as if we had sat next to a bonfire? And we feel extremely let down by the attitude of the lady at the bar who discussed the bill with me. The waitresses were very pleasant and having spoken to man who normally runs the place in previous visits he has always been friendly and accommodating, so I am disappointed at the level of response we received today.Personally I feel they had overbooked themselves today, as the whole environment appeared frantic and rushed, and holding a 50th birthday gathering didn’t help this cause especially in COVID times. As said we have tried to support the local pub but today’s experience has made us question and re-evaluate this. I am not normally one for complaining, and as said me and my family have tried to positively support this pub in these difficult times, but the issues raised above must be a priority for the management to address so other people do not have this negative experience as we have done so today.

Stopped off for lunch with my husband, daughter and our wet, muddy dog after a 5 mile walk in drizzly conditions. The staff were most accomodating, finding us a table with our wet dog. The pub was fairly busy and there seemed to be only 2 members of staff working the bar. We ordered two jacket potatoes and a round of sandwiches. Unfortunately, the chef misread the order and we only received one jacket potato and the sandwiches, so my husband was provided with complementary fries to tie him over until they were able to provide him with his meal. There appeared to be confusion over a few meals on other tables whilst we were there, but I believe this was down to the sudden influx of customers at that time and shortage of staff dealing with customers. The food were generous portion sizes and reasonably priced. Despite the issues we had with our food order and a forgotten second drink, we were very happy with the cheerfulness and welcoming we received from the staff and that they did everything to make up for these mistakes. To sum up, it is a lovely friendly pub with good food at reasonable prices. We would certainly recommend it to anyone who visits the area.

Had to guess, and outline generic drinks.Twenty minutes later we asked the waitress where our drinks were, and if they had our order. She said they had our order, and there was a forty minute wait.We left......With current climate, would have thought a simple order of two pints, and three soft drinks along with snacks could have been dealt with in under ten minutes.

Came here for a visit just before going on hols to have a nice Sunday roast13th September 20.Asked for food at 2pm so we could have a couple of drinks before dinner.Spoke to manager and he said that would be fine yet dinner arrived 5 mins later. We did say to waitress we had ordered for 2 but she just shrugged her shoulders Anyway thought ok we will eat.Potatoes were not fresh roasted but seemed liked they had been cooked day before or even longer and were cold and hard as bullets, veg, frozen carrot that had been mashed, kale and broccoli soggy and cold.Parsnip same as potatoes.Yorkshire pudding same as potatoes.Meat one Turkey and one lamb. This seemed like catering presliced meat that was cook in tray, even that was cold.I ate 70% and my partner less than 50%.We had no breakfast and was hungry.I decided I wanted to speak to manager because it simply had been the worse Sunday dinner I've ever eaten. The waitress got the manager and he simply looked at the plates and said you've eaten it.I tried to explain my reasons why complaining but tried to deny that the food had been reheated. My partner is no chef or cook but even he stated it was all reheated foods and not even decent quality. No apology and no excuse but rudeness stating only had to pay for drinks.Made us feel this was the only reason why we complained.I do not go out to get a free meal, I would rather have had hot and decent and paid for itClearly this manager needs to have some form of manager training.Have also seen pictures on Facebook at the state of the kitchen, pots and pans etc and they look disgusting. This place is not fit for purpose Not a place to eat at

Our food was perfect for our group. Catered to our taste. The beer was perfect, I could tell the pipes were looked after and our day was perfect.
