The Angler's Rest in Banbridge

This is not the first time I have been here. It was an online booking made at the beginning of January to celebrate my 60th birthday. My girlfriends took me out Saturday night past (3rd February) and it was just wonderful and perfect from start to finish. Table bedecked in balloons. I have a bad back and the request for a table with specific seating was there. Waiting staff were first class. The menu offered a wife choice plus there were 2 specials on offer on the night. The smell coming from the kitchen made it very hard to choose. All wine and soft drinks orders were taken and served correctly. My meal was superb. Pork belly bites in BBQ sauce to begin with followed by sirloin steak, battered onion rings, mushrooms and sweet chilli and sour cream chipped cubes. Full marks and compliments to the chef! Dessert was lemon meringue pie complete with birthday candle! It was fabulous. It's a difficult dessert to perfect but perfection it was. It was a really lovely evening . Four very well satisfied customers. Lovely venue with first class food which is a joy to visit. Can't wait to go back!

Arrived without booking for Sunday lunch. Very welcoming and pleasant staff. Also hard working. Lovely surroundings. Sunday lunch… I would have chosen smoked salmon starter on menu but not available. Battered mushrooms delicious as was wheaten bread. My husbands roast silverside was melt in your mouth delicious. I had a generous portion baked cod which was delicious . The supposedly sundried and white wine sauce… I’m not sure about… . The disappointment was the vegetables. Carrot and parsnip sticks which were bland and tasteless! I’m wondering Were they frozen and plunged into hot water. Abundance of tasty mash and roasties. Would have liked some more quality veg. Would be prepared to return.. but please improve the veg! Only instant coffee available so we declined that. A first visit .. I would return.

Booked for Sunday lunch along with an elderly and less mobile relative and a primary school aged child. Arrived to a warm greeting. Seated at a nice accessible table with a good view around the restaurant. I ordered the turkey and ham, my uncle had roast beef and my daughter had the chicken goujons. The lunch was lovely. Generous portions and very tasty. The service was efficient, attentive and friendly. I would happily return when in the area.

Was in The Anglers Rest today for lunch with my husband, we go out most Sturdays we had parked at an Hotel we previously used but decided to try "The Anglers" we were not disappointed the lunch was beautiful it is quite a while from I had a lunch that was really hot, also on hot plates meat veg and potatoes all had steam rising from them it was really delicious. Staff also really friendly hygiene very good all round. Compliments to all, keep your Chef Declan. We will be back..

We had Sunday dinner here after seeing positive reviews on Tripadvisor. They were well deserved. Beautiful food, friendly service and spotless toilets. The crispy mushroom starter was lovely. I had the roast beef main. It was tasty and generous portions. My only minor constructive criticism would be that I got 4 thin slices of beef but would've preferred 2 thicker slices. My wife had the beef burger, my 9 year old son had the half portion of roast beef and my 7 year old daughter had the chicken goujons. All good food. To top it off there was a Delorian sports car in the front of the car park. Lovely restaurant and we'll certainly remember it if we're in the area again.

We were driving along towards Banbridge when we came upon the Anglers Rest. The building is very attractive and well maintained inside and outside. There is a large car park at the rear. We had not made a booking, and we’re delighted that the staff made us feel very welcome. We had an absolutely fantastic meal. We chose Maryland chicken, with champ, chips and a side salad. We loved the banana fritter too. The meal was delicious and the portions were just perfect. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly, warm and welcoming. I had a pot of coffee as I was driving. My wife had a nice glass of wine from the bar. The meal and drinks were very keenly priced, giving exceptionally value. We can both thoroughly recommend the Anglers Rest. We had a great experience there.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Anglers Rest twice in the past few weeks. A Friday evening a couple of weeks ago and again last Sunday night. The food in this place is to die for and the service and hospitality exceptional. The first visit was with my partner, her daughter and boyfriend. The steaks were unbelievable , cooked to perfection and lovely with champ and/or garlic cubes. Last Sunday night we were back and we both had Chicken Maryland and the irresistible garlic potatoes. I cannot recommend the Anglers highly enough and the amazing staff who will make your visit a warm welcoming experience, and the Guinness here is as good as anywhere in the area.

My family of six were fortunate enough to visit the anglers rest again last Sunday and as usual it was an amazing experience. This is our first time out since August last year and it did not disappoint!! The staff were excellent and we felt completely safe as social distancing was brilliant!! The menu was great and everyone was more than pleased with their choices and the portion sizes. We had an amazing Sunday lunch with helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble!! Great service,food and value. Can't wait to return.

Went here on the last night before closure for 4 weeks. Steak sandwich one of the best I have ever had. Great service and careful attention paid to Covid regulations. Take away being offered during lockdown but can't wait until they open again.

We really enjoyed our sunday lunch, we both had the turkey and ham lunch and for dessert I had lemon cheesecake and my other half had chocolate fudge cake which was very nice. would recommend to anyone to try.

I came here with a few friends for a Sunday meal not knowing what to expect. I ordered a steak sandwich with chips and a side of garlic potatoes and vegetables. The steak came on garlic bread( which I must say was different something unique but a great addition) the steak was fantastic and the steak sauce on the side made the meal even better it was full of flavour it’s the best steak sandwich I’ve had for awhile. The side of garlic potatoes were lovely a great side portion. For desert I decided to order a chocolate brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce on top which was very very good. The service was top class the food was great, the staff were amazing and were also very helpful. A great meal for a good price I will be back!

On our way back to our B&B and feeling hungry it was our good luck to fall upon the Anglers Rest and we were certainly not disappointed.A very warm welcome and attentive service with attention to detail.The food was excellent and very reasonably priced.A little gem.When we return it will definitely be on our agenda.

Great wee place out of the town on Castlewellan Road. Really nice and clean inside and toilets very clean. That's a bonus if they keep them clean then the kitchen is clean. Great portions and very well cooked in a very pleasant and friendly surroundings

We went to the Angler's Rest for a family birthday and we're very disappointed. We had the garlic mushrooms to start which were actively unpleasant. The mushrooms were sliced and covered in a bland white sauce that tasted like it came from a packet. The portions were big but the pork fillet was overcooked and dry and the chicken dish was very bland. My son was excited as they had jelly on the kid's menu, but when we asked for it we were told that they 'didn't usually have jelly' even though it was clearly advertised.The only thing I couldn't fault at all were the staff, who could not have been nicer or more helpful.A triumph of quantity over quality.

We wont visit this restaurant again. We got a brie starter - 2 huge pieces or brie with a tiny drizzle of sauce. Both starters had a salad which wasn't dressed. For main we got ribs and a steak sandwich. The ribs were once again huge, but with hardly any sauce. The steak sandwich was a bit of steak of top of garlic bread - not sliced. Half was cooked medium and the other half well done. It doesn't come with a sauce, so I ordered Diane sauce - it tasted very unpleasant!!! Once again, both main courses came with a salad which wasn't dressed (leaves, sliced pepper and onion). This was a very disappointing meal.

Had a lovely meal here. Restaurant was very busy but staff were great and food arrived promptly as did drinks. Food was excellent and the staff were friendly, polite and nothing was too much bother for them. We will be back.

Absolutely first class service with all presented and high quality food. Love this place and it's a hidden gem. It's hardly advertised yet word of mouth is the way forward for the Anglers rest. A superb venue with wonderful staff.

On a recommendation from Dillon at the Bank we made reservations. It was all we could have asked for. A little off the beaten path being a good thing this gem served amazing food. Roberta our server was very helpful taking time while we sampled several wines before deciding on 2. Would come back!!!!

Popped into the Angler’s on Sunday with my family for a quick bite on way to Newcastle. Service was very friendly and attentive, we ordered off a set Sunday menu which was great value and had a good variety on there to suit both my wife and I and my boys aged 3 and 1. Food was lovely, we will definitely be back.

Food and service was excellent.. staff couldn’t do enough for u dunno the wee ladies name but she was lovely and rushed about doing 50 jobs .. from banbridge myself and have never been here before will def be back

My wife and I would travel regularly for Sunday lunch to the Anglers Rest which is a distance of 20miles. We find the service and food is always first class and Deirdre couldn't be more helpful. We find the atmosphere very homely and friendly. Frank and Dympna

we Recently went here for a meal and we were not disappointed. There is a very comfortable waiting area where you wait for your table. They take your order and you can have a drink while you are waiting. After you take your table you don't have to wait long to be served your meal.

Visited today for lunch with my family and was really disappointed with the food. I had one of the specials which read well flatbread with chilli beef, and was told by a waitress it was really good but at no point was it suggested the flatbread was from Tesco or somewhere cause it certainly wasn’t homemade. Gross. The sides weren’t much better garlic cubes frozen not fresh and my daughters burger burnt. I won’t be back, the only positive, was the waiting staff were lovely and very efficient.

Visited today as a group of 17 people for Sunday lunch for a 70th birthday celebration. Food and service was excellent credit to all the staff. Thank you!

Passed this place many times over the past few years but never went in. Boy were we missing out! This Saturday we had a meal along with 18 friends and we were blown away with the service, quality of the food, portion sizes and price. We called on the off chance they might be able to accommodate us and they bent over backwards to get us all in. The staff are so friendly and the food is 1st class. We will definitely be back.... regularly!

Great food here, it's a beautiful wee countryside place. We got gift vouchers from our insurance brooker a while back. Was pleasantly suprised. Service was great.

Great food, great service, great value and very friendly Staff. There is a good selection of food desserts and drinks here. On my most recent visit here I tried the minute steak cooked well done which I thought it was very tasty and I will certainly come here again and would recommended The Anglers Rest to others.

We stopped off here for lunch on way home from tollymore forest and received a warm welcome. The food was good and staff were very efficient and friendly. The only thing was missing on such a wet cold day was that the fire was not lit and Resturant area was cold. Would recommend this restaurant.

Had tea here, first visit. Food was very good and staff very friendly & attentive, they also allowed us to choose from a set menu or bar menu which is unusual.

Wir haben hier recht ordentlich gegessen. Meine Frau hatte Meeresfrüchte, ich ein Currygericht nach indischer Art. Etwas albern fand ich, dass wir erst einmal auf das Sofa im Eingangsbereich platziert wurden, obwohl genug Tische frei waren. Aber es war ganz gemütlich und wir bekamen schon mal die Getränke serviert und wurden bald an den Tisch geführt. Insgesamt war der Service recht gut.

Had a lovely meal tonight, staff were attentive and welcoming. We both had the beef stir fry and it was beautiful- meat was clean, with no gristly bits, the dessert was unreal....will be back for some more of their home made pavlova!

If you want good wholesome hearty food then the Anglers Rest is the place to go to.

Wife and I called in after passing it a few times. Didn't book, just turned up on a Friday on spec. Seated quickly, staff were excellent, polite and pleasant. Food came quickly, and was really good, good portion size, nice and hot, chicken wad tender and tasty. My wife had scampi, she's a bit fussy about fish dishes. And was very impressed. Top class scampi. Good value, 2 mains, 2 soft drinks, one dessert and one coffee, 31 quid all in.Highly recommended, we will definitely return

Called in for Sunday Lunch and was very disappointed in the food and decor. The turkey and side orders would have fed a family of four. Far to much food which was tasteless. My husband had Chowder which was served with garlic bread and tomato and watercress on the side. Very strange combination. When I read reviews which said great food and very cosy place I was gobsmacked. I thought it was neither and will not be back. The bottles of beer were warm too. The lady gave us £3 off the bill which was insulting after I told her Chowder tastless and to much food. 0 out of 10.

Havent been for a while until last sunday. Food was top notch, fresh local produce cooked to perfection!! Great atmosphere and very child friendly. Great prices and even better guiness!! Will definately be back

My husband and I decided to go out for a last minute dinner and had not booked. We where seated quickly and our waitress Trish was absolutely lovely and very helpful. The menu was limited but had all the favourites. Between us we ordered the ribs and wings for starter - the ribs were tasty but portion small (but acceptable for a starter), wings were ok at best and the skin "slimy". For the main my husband had the burger which he said was over cooked but a large portion including chips. I had the chili chicken which was very disappointing, it lacked flavour and the chicken looked unappealing and I could not finish it. the portion size was generous and it was piping hot, otherwise it fell short of my expectation. For 2 starters, 2 glasses of wine and a soft drink it cost £42, which for a disappointing meal felt over priced. We appreciated being seated quickly despite not booking, the prompt service and the piping hot food. However the quality and taste of the food did not compare. A real shame. We will not be back.

Don't get me wrong, The Anglers Inn is a cozy and relaxing dining experience, but can't you get that in the comfort of your own home? It was okay, it's just very average and doesn't stand out. The menu doesn't excel as it has your classics and that's about it. I just see it as a waste of money if I'm honest. Order a Chinese or pizza instead

Visited although we had pre-booked a table for two as venue was very busy, plenty of parties including local Clergy who was having a meal with what looked like a Family gathering. Staff where very friendly and we submitted our order and was served by Deirdre who was very chatty and entertaining and knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu and service. Our meal arrived promptly and was delicious. Food was generous servings and well priced and freshly cooked which helped.We opted for desserts and coffees as well and bill was very reasonable and we gave Deirdre a generous tip for looking after us so well. Toilets where spotless the only fault was people smoking at the front door of the restaurant which meant having to inhale their fumes. Although there where smoking area nearby.Will certainly call again as it was a very pleasant experience. 9.75/10

This restaurant had easy disabled parking and easy access inside. The staff were very friendly and the food delicious. There was a dedicated disabled toilet but it isn't labelled so you have to ask. It was labelled Fire Door and was to the left of the main door. We'd definitely go again.

Had a family meal at The Angler's Rest after booking the day before. The four of us were given a very friendly and warm greeting and our drinks order was followed up within minutes , while we waited to be seated to our table. The atmosphere in this restaurant is lovely, adequately lit and spacious, and yet feels very cosy and warm. You just feel at home. The staff are wonderfully friendly, efficient and very attentive. We had a 3 course meal, the food was beautiful, portions not too big or too small. The surprise for us was the bill at the end. It came in at just about £26.50 each (1 alcoholic beverage each, we had water for the table after that), which is fantastic and wonderful value. We will definitely visit again!

Had been meaning to go here for a while due to the great reviews.On arrival we were warmly greeted and seated with a menu while a table was prepared. The waitress showed us the specials on the board which my wife decided to try.It was chilli pork chop with veg, I got ribs and chicken wings.When it was brought out we were gobsmacked, my wife had 3 slices of pork( the sort you see mass produced and frozen for big events) with some watery chilli round it,watercress and 3 roast spuds! I had ribs with barbecue sauce over them and wings with really thick chilli sauce. Who thinks of these dishes and why?I think the waitress knew they were serving rubbish and came over to see if everything was alright. As usual we said nothing picked at our food,deciding to vote with our feet. The main reason for the review is to balance out the 5 star reviews for this place which to be honest are far from true. Staff were nice but thats all. Will never be back.

Phoned at 4 on the day and they made space for us at 7. Always busy but staff ALWAYS pleasant.Had 1 started shared Chicken Kiev was oozing with garlic butter Scampi was large and batter crispy.Never a bad meal or service

Visited for a family dinner and found the whole experience top rate. If being fussy the prawn cocktail was disappointing, but every other dish was excellent, steak perfectly cooked as requested. Staff excellent especially when my younger daughter was ill (tummy bug), nothing was too much trouble and still smiling espute it all. A big thank you to the staff concerned.

Called into the anglers on the way to Newcastle well greated by friendly pleasant staff and brought straight to a table placed are order I had 19oz sirloin steak and mate had the duck meal was first class my steak cooked to perfection and the duck was beutifull followed by lemon meringue which u wud know wasn't a bought in job home made the service was fast and meal was piping hot Defo will call on the off chance again highly recommended

My daughter and I called for late lunch, only to find that food had finished until 5pm. When we got back in our hire car, it wouldn't start and we had no signal on our mobile phones. I went to ask if there was a phone in the pub we could use and the owner insisted on making us a pot of tea and gave us the phone. He apologised that the chef wasn't in until around 4.30 pm but that he could make us something as soon as he arrived. We had to wait almost 3 hours for the breakdown company to arrive but we couldn't have felt more at home. The chef came in at 4.30 and insisted in making us a meal. As we didn't know how long it would be before the breakdown company arrived, we decided to share the beef croquettes in peppercorn sauce off the specials menu. They were absolutely delicious. I can't thank the owner and chef enough for their kindness and hospitality. We will be back in Northern Ireland in May and hope we can return for lunch when things are a bit less stressful. Thank you!

pre-booked dinner. Excellent communication pre-event. Very warm welcome by Deirdre and superb service. Meal was top class and brilliant value for money. This is a place which knows how to look after the customers. We plan to return.

We took a chance and called in on a busy Sunday without booking and where quickly shown to a table in the busy restaurant. The menu had plenty of options to choose from and when the food arrived, it was on full plates, with additional plates arriving for the vegetables. When the dessert menu came it had bread & butter pudding on it, bringing a brillant close to a perfect meal. If you go away hungry then its your own fault.

I love this place food is amazing definitely recommend the burger. Service is great and management is so nice. Anything you get here is going to be amazing! Very reasonable priced.

Had lunch with my family here today. Food was PIPING hot, and portions were rather large. Chowder was over £12 which is very pricey for a lunch dish! Had a nice time but wouldn't hurry back...service was good.

We booked a table for 3 on Sunday evening. Wow! Excellent service to start. Met and showed to greeting area while we ordered a drink & looked at menu. I ordered a special steak open sandwich. Tasty! My husband had 12oz sirloin. Perfect! My daughter's chicken gougons. Lovely & succulent. Good, service & value for money exceptional ☺

Had heard great reports about this place but was disappointed. We had a Sunday lunch of turkey and ham but it was so bland. Potatoes were cold in the middle and stuffing seemed very watery like it had been cooked from frozen.The staff were so lovely though and very pleasant!! Hoping this was just a bad day so I will try it again!!

A very limited pub style menu on offer in this much hyped eatery. The food that is on offer is well cooked but lacking in any whoa factor or finesse.

I regularly eat here, and the staff is always fantastic, along with a guaranteed great meal. It is always a great place to take a large family setting, or birthday party where it can cater are groups.

Had Sunday Lunch with my Mum today. We had Good wholesome food,surroundings were clean,well presented & menu was very reasonably priced.The atmosphere was very pleasant but the standout feature for me was the high quality of customer service.Well done everyone!!.Thanks for looking after us so well.We also took a look at the week day menu we liked,will definetely try it out.

Hadn't been here for ages. Then we organised and booked a birthday meal for my father in law. I forgot how great the food and service was..!!..A warm welcome by ALL staff who were nothing short of consummate professionals. The food was of excellent standard and plenty of it. The place was extremely busy but nothing was a problem for the staff who served us. Absolutely delighted to have come here and I certainly won't leave it as long to my next visit :-)

our Church uses the Anglers rest for a lot of Venues, Car boot sale, Christmas Socials or simply an evening meal. The staff at the Anglers Rest are fantastic. They go the extra mile to ensure that your meal is great. The food is of a very good standard as is the menu. All good home cooked food. a great place for a evening meal

A group of 6 friends called at the Angler's Rest for an evening meal on Easter Monday evening. Of course it was full but the waiting time was only 15 minutes so we stayed. A wise decision - we were seated in 10 minutes and our meal was served only 20 minutes later. The serving ladies were superb. Advice was asked and given on a variety of dishes. Their patience and professionalism were remarkable(after a hard day's work). We felt immediately at home and thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Visited here with wife and son (age 7) on a Sunday. Was going to call on spec but decided to ring ahead, glad I did as they were fully booked. Managed to squeeze me in. When we got there the place was bunged solid. Friendly staff took our order as we waited then prepared our table. Will definitely be back, the food was top quality matched by the friendly efficient service when the staff were under extreme pressure. Would highly recommend.

If you have a large family, this is the place to go on a Saturday night - one of those large menus that suits everyone, including groups of children. Bar choice good also - however this is a child friendly restaurant. Good menu, generous portions however food is not always a very high standard and seems based more on quantity than size.

just called in on the off chance when passing. When out for a Sunday drive id been a regular diner then the standard dropped . So we stopped going So decided to try again and it was great to see it back to its old self. people constantly coming and going great food. service 1st class clean and friendly. great to see the owners working along side the employees and you are made to feel so welcome . would recommend it to anyone. will defo be back and their child friendly and reasonably priced .And not forgetting chefs and kitchen porters please keep up the good work .Although you will think it some days you are not appreciated if it was not for you lot at back of house we would not need front of house.... keep up the good work

Started going here about 20 years ago, before it grew into the place it now is. The expansion did not affect the atmosphere or quality of food served up one bit. Andrew and his friendly and efficient staff still give excellent service.

This is a great restaurant serving local cuisine at really competitive prices. Thestandard of food is excellent and the surroundings are great.Will be back for more without a doubt. My wife loved the vegetarian bake.

Absolutely delicious food here, with very generous servings, all at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed it!
