The Angel Inn in Bridgend

Arriving to be greeted by a treat for our dog and from then on our visit just kept getting better. Friendliness was genuine, track and trace made easy, setup inside to enable us to have the wider range menu and still take our dog with us, and to have such a very substantial and enjoyable meal really made our day. There is obviously a happy and professional team environment at the Angel. Thank you.

Awful service. No clear indication as to the process of serving. Sat outside so went in to ask - got barked at that it was table service only and that they would be out now! Took a further 10min to be served. Very rude staff, no customer service at all! All staff were about 16 and just didn’t care. Asked for a dessert menu for our 2 year old, brought it out and said be back in 2 min but low and behold never cane back even though I tried to call them over, so we left! Won’t be going back again, wasn’t even busy so there is no excuse for poor customer service or wait.

My husband and I went for lunch at The Angel Inn today to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first visit and most definitely won’t be the last. Brilliant practices in place to keep both their staff and customers safe. Spotlessly clean, cosy, warm and very welcoming.The food was outstanding. We both had pate to start which was very tasty. We followed this with Beef Wellington for my husband and Chicken with creamed leeks for myself. The food was piping hot and well presented and just delicious. Unfortunately, we were too full to enjoy afters.We have no hesitation in recommending The Angel Inn and look forward to trying some more of their fabulous menu soon.Thanks for a lovely lunch. High quality food at a great price. We shared the belly pork which was skillfully cooked and the burger. The burger came with a tasty relish and coleslaw. Fab sauce with the pork and all beautifully presented. Crack(l)ings service as well. Highly, highly recommended with a great situation to boot.

Arranging to go for dinner during the Covid pandemic is something that has given me great anxiety, especially with a 8 week old baby. This however, was not the case at The Angel. From the moment we entered the door we were made to feel safe with clear safety procedures that were established by all staff and easy to follow. Despite the added pressure of staff to uphold these measures, all those who served us were polite, friendly and welcoming.The food was great- we came in for a Sunday roast. We enjoyed it so much, all 4 of us opted for the 4 courses.We were also very impressed with how accommodating the host was. We were given a slightly bigger, quieter table as we had the baby with us. The baby changing facilities were also great-a small thing that makes a difference to a new mum going out for dinner.

We went to the Angel inn and the food was amazing! I had the 8oz fillet steak rare and it was the best steak I’ve had. And the pumpkin cheesecake was to die for I highly recommend this restaurant

My partner and I had food here this evening, spur of the moment decision after a pint of Berra Moretti and its delivered above my expectations. Brilliant service, the food was perfect!

Had the best beef wellington at the Angel all of our food was delicious couldn’t fault any of it. Service was quick staff amazing and friendly . Lovely and cosy, with a lovely beer garden. Can’t wait to go back

We had a fantastic Sunday dinner. Service was outstanding and the measures that have been put in place around Covid, ensured that we had a really enjoyable family meal. Highly recommend! We will definitely return. A big thank you to all the staff.

We took my elderly parents for sunday lunch. First of all, their social distancing & hygiene procedure was excellent, all staff wearing masks or visors & plenty of hand sanitizer. The food was gorgeous, hot & plentiful & the chocolate trifle was to die for!! We will definitely be back!

Phoned up up on the off chance, very helpful and fitted me and the Wife in Service was very good staff helpful and the food was stunning, felt safe and well looked after

Have spent a fantastic evening at The Angel Inn. First time we have been there and will return. In difficult times the Angel Inn has their protocols spot on, everywhere clean and spacious, staff all wearing masks etc. Limited people in at a time meaning easy to relax. On first glance some might say the menu was small. There is something for everyone. As well as the main menu there are daily specials. We chose the Pork Belly in Cider and the Chicken with Welsh rarebit and creamed leeks. The food arrived in good time and was presented beautifully. The seasonal vegetables wrapped in a parcel from the steamer and beautifully cooked. The portions were enormous, especially for the price. Picked this place from Trip advisor rating and not disappointed. Not even the 100kph winds could spoil it. Definitely recommend.

We thought we would give this place a visit, as we have seen it numerous times on our journeys on the M4 and have often commented “we should go there one day.” We wish we hadn’t.One of our party ordered the fillet steak (they had wanted rump but was told it was unavailable). The steak didn’t taste fresh at all, more like the meat had been stored in the freezer during the whole of lockdown and sadly affected the taste and texture. The food accompanying the steak tasted like it had been sitting out for a while and just rewarmed. At £23, the steak meal was very disappointing. All the other meals that were ordered by our party didn’t feel like the ingredients were fresh, and it was as though they had been left waiting for the next ordered and then reheated. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.

We visited just prior to covid lockdown and realy enjoying, so decided to visit again as soon as possible.We booked a table paying a small deposit, which is fine by us. Staff were pleasant and the food was great. However it all seemed a bit rushed. As soon as the starters were consumed they were removed and the mains placed in front of us. We were in and out in an hour. Three courses and a pint. £60.00 for an hour.The previous vist felt like an evening out two and a half hours for the same. Very rushed it took my wife longer to get ready lol!!

After a walk around the nature reserve we found The Angel Inn. So pleased that we did as not only was the food excellent (and the beer), but they are very thorough on their c19 procedures, which make you feel safe. Fish and chips were good and the T bone on the specials menu was perfect. We’ll be back!

The building looks nice from the outside, but inside it is very narrow and so cramped that two people have to sqeeze passed each other, It tends to be a bit pricey and the ales are a bit watered down.

My first visit since the revamp. The staff were brilliant, and our meals were well presented and very tasty. We were happy with the prices and choices on the menu. We will definitely visit again.

Lovely meal, we all had cooked dinners, meat beautiful and plenty of veg. Dessert was absolutely delicious. Service great. Would recommend.

Stayed here many years ago in a dog friendly room but only stayed the once and we are delighted to say what a fantastic improvement ... nice cosy room done out in gray and white with a more rustic trendy feel ... with a nice verandah and pleasant views over the Sand dunes ... good for dog walking ! there is a decent size bathroom with shower ... we are dining in the bar area which we are hoping the lovely log fire will be lit ... the bonus of it being dog friendly ! Good real local ales and a nice choice of wines . Breakfast is a brown bag with goodies as the pub doesn’t open until 11 tea and coffee facilities in room . A nice simple and stylish stay and most reasonable in comparison to others in the area . Staff are very friendly and helpful .

Fabulous food at every visit apart from last night when I had the fish pie!!! Everyone's meals were great as always and we have had several dishes on the menu.Steaks Chicken.Pasta etc. My partners lasagne was delicious last night but unfortunately the fish pie was really not! I had a couple of prawns in a very very dry and heavily loaded with mashed potatoes small dish... Shame as we enjoy it here@

Lovely, we visit often, and are more impressed every time. Quality, quantity, value and ambiance are all spot on. Try the salmon cheesecake starter - amazing.

Wonderful time. Excellent service. Could not do enough for you. Meals of a large portion. We are vegetarians and there was plenty of choice. Not always the case. Would recommend. We will be going back.

Called in without a booking and the first time since its revamp. My husband ordered the roasted pork loin and I ordered the cow pie. Both were really very good, faultless. The vegetables were just right and I would highly recommend. A step up from most 'pub grub' fayre. Lovely food

Nice and clean, staff very friendly ,sat down order was taken for drinks ,drinks arrived order taken for food and with in a short space of time the food was at the table piping hot. I had fish and posh chips, one friend had lamb and the other had a sea food selection. every thing was very good ,in fact two of us couldn't eat it all portions are very good.

Visited last thursday with my husband for my birthday. We both had the fillet steak and were not disappointed. Cooked to absolute perfection! Homemade chips and saute potatoes were also delicious. Stunning cheesecake for dessert. Service was great. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

We visited for an early dinner on New Years Eve. Plenty of parking, easy to find on a quiet dark lane. We were seated in the restaurant which was lively but a great atmosphere. The staff were really attentive, really informative and the food itself was delicious and very filling. We won’t hesitate to visit again.

Well. I’m sorry to put this review up. We have been to The Angel many times. We called in this evening and to our disgrace we were very disappointed to find a group of gentlemen in the lounge area whose language was atrocious . This is not what u want to hear when you go out for a meal and a pleasant evening!

Booked lunch for two in advance, turned up to be told they didn’t have the booking. Put in the naughty boys and girls corner for singles & couples. Restaurant not busy and staff seemed inattentive, no sign of management . Orders placed long wait for what was average at best. During meal ordered second round of drinks and incorrect order arrived. Ordered coffees at end of meal never arrived. Paid for meal at bar explained issue of coffee and told no worries we haven’t charged you for it. What a pity this place offers much and delivers little . Probably closed within 12 months

Service excellent. Food all microwaved apart from chips and fish. Very disappointed, ambience great food awful.

We visited for lunch. The venue was moderately busy with seating options available. The staff were courteous and attentive but not over bearing. The menu is expansive and there was plenty to choose from. We opted for starter and main. My wife particularly enjoyed the Perl Wen Filo parcels and cranberry. My build your own crispy duck pancakes were not so crispy and sparse with content.

Really enjoy lunch at this pub, food is very good, service is excellent and very polite, views are lovely (even though it overlooks Tata steel in Port Talbot!!). Also overlooks a nature reserve. Worth a visit for lunch.

This is a super restaurant - Sunday lunch especially good - and it is very popular so you need to book. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient, and there is a lovely atmosphere. Can't ask for more.

Never been here before, but have been meaning to visit for a long time. Very glad I did. It's a really lovely pub. It has a warm feel about it. Food was excellent. Staff are really friendly too. Will definitely return.

It was an unplanned visit. The staff were lovely and found us a table, after a small wait. It’s a really nice place and we both enjoyed our meals and have said that we will definitely return 😁

I called in on the spur of the moment for dinner, I'm very glad I did, they found me a table which was great, I had the half gammon, wow just the right size and excellent quality, I would definitely go back , the staff were very friendly

My wife and 2 grandkids decided to have lunch, we had the 2 meals for £12 which is good value unfortunately the meal my wife had lacked the sauce and when we complained that fell on deaf ears, same for when we mentioned the hardness or over cooked a simple garlic bread that came with the lasagne my granddaughter had, it was hard enough to hammer nails in. Once again when mentioned the waiter offered a new serving of garlic bread by this time the meals was finished. We will not return.

Booked for a special birthday lunch. The menu was different and the food was fantastic, it could not be faulted. All staff, although young, were polite, friendly and professional. The venue was pleasant and although very busy not noisy.

After a rainy walk on the beach and with a very soggy dog, we went for Sunday lunch at The Angel Inn. It has one bar/restaurant area specifically for customers with dogs. We were made to feel very welcome as was our dog. There was a tub of dog treats free of charge and fresh water. The tables were spaced far enough apart that the dogs had room to lie out. The food and selection of choice was excellent. Such a wide range of roasts to choose from - something for everyone. The waiting staff were very accommodating and when we asked for extra gravy and a few other requests, they went out of their way to deliver AND with a smile on their face. Dessert was awesome, the cookie dough and honeycomb ice cream was delicious and the lemon posset with freshly made shortbread was a triumph. The pub had a warm and welcoming ambiance, it was really quite delightful.

Had the two meals for £12, the food was good quality,good size portions and tasted great. Table service including the drinks by professional staff. Will definately return

Stopped here on spec, on way back from Aberdulais water falls. Pleasant welcome and they found us a table for 4 no problem. All enjoyed a fantastic Sunday roast with tender meat, fresh vegetables and it was superb! Beer was good too - we had the Seafarers 3.6 pc bitter. Definitely recommend this place!

Quick Saturday afternoon visit for a pint sat outside. Pleasantly surprised by interior decor. Will return for a meal as the menu looked good and prices fair. Bowl of chips we had with our drinks were brilliant. Will return to try out more food

Have been past the Angel Inn in many visits to Kenfig Nature Reserve and decided to visit for lunch with my wife. Great menu choices including some lighter meals. We had the leek and potato soup followed by sandwiches with fresh baked bloomer bread and a dessert. Food was great as was the service and I rated the value for money. Will revisit.

Booked a table and called in for an early evening meal with family. The restaurant was quite quiet initially and we bought some drinks at the bar and were shown to our table. The 2 female waitresses were less than friendly - no rapport with the customers and didn’t know when asked what was in a specific dish - always a little worrying!

Called on Wednesday evening. Restaurant half full. Staff most attentive and helpful. Curry was indifferent. Loin of pork was dried up and obviously reheated. Gravy was ok. Crackling most peculiar and gave me indigestion. Veg was ok.

Called in after looking up on google as place to eat near M4. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming and the food was lovely and great value for our lunch. Our dog was welcome in the bar and we will definitely call in again on our ways to and from holidays

Came to the Angel Inn as we are on Holiday with our Labrador- they are v dog friendly, in the side bar area, where you can have a meal. Clean water & doggy biscuits on offer. The Inn has had a make over and has a great atmosphere

Stopped here for lunch after busy day as a tourist! I'd fillet steak, cooked to perfection. My wife had the cow pie and she loved it. Hard to fault.

Visited with my family 9 July 2019. I had the seafood linguine which promised to come with chunks of seafood. There were a few, at best, small dried up shrimp. The suave was supposed toe provincial but no sign of any olives. When asked if everything was ok I said actually no and explained why ie no chinks of seafood and pasta was over cooked. Manager came over and explained that the sauce was a basic passata. Was offered another meal but I declined. My meal was then taken away by the manager. I was still billed the full amount. I emailed them to complain rather than leave a bad review but it's been over a week and still no response. I would avoid this place at all costs. Other reviews I have read here also mention overcooked pasta so they obviously do not take heed of what customers say. So to sum up poor food quality and indifferent manager.

Got settled at the outside table after unloading the car baby and all. Entered the pub to be told 20 min hold for food orders. Thought that was okay so processed to get menu

Had two late lunches mid afternoon and the food was excellent on both occasions. My wife had fillet steak both times as she enjoyed it that much. I had the lamb special and pork loin and they were both excellent. Service was very pleasant also. Dog friendly too.

Wonderful day. Meals were awesome and service pleasant. Had the trio of fish as a main meal and it was enough for me.

Warm welcome and prebooked table was waiting - however with two other larger parties in the room it was incredibly noisy and we could barely hear each other speak - I really didn’t want to hear what people on next table were talking about as they appeared to be shouting (we assumed so that they could hear each other!!)

We have just spent a lovely weekend here at The Angel. The food was delicious. Saturday evening I had fish and my boyfriend had the beef wellington both cooked to perfection, and on Sunday we both had roasts, also delicious. The staff were really lovely and friendly. Our room was ‘cosy’, clean and ideal for a weekend break. The only criticism would possibly be that the shower could do with a bit more power! But was not a problem for us. We’d also like to thank Sean for his advice on places to visit! Thank you, and we look forward to our return x

Having had a walk in the nearby nature reserve we decided to stop off for lunch, quite busy and car park was full, beautiful pub with lovely outdoor seating and dog friendly, ordered at the bar and was surprised at how quick the food came out, also tried a glass of local real ale, very nice, they also do accommodation and is very well placed to explore Porthcawl and surrounding areas. Food was superb and quite reasonable. Worth a visit.

My husband and I arrived this afternoon and were seated at a table which I had to ask to be cleaned as it was dirty with salt from the previous guest all overall it,we should've left then in hindsight, but not too much of a problem, wine list was minimal but again not too much of a problem,I ordered the spicy vegetable risotto, my husband ordered duo of pork. The 'risotto' arrived which was in fact unseasoned boiled rice and frozen vegetables absolutely tasteless no spice at all, the staff were great even though one member came over to ask if everything was ok when both dishes had been sent back to the kitchen, (my husband's to be kept warm while they heated up a jar of curry sauce and frozen vegetables for me) they exchanged my risotto for curry and rice and it came with the same rice as my 'risotto' was made of. We wasn't charged for my meal as a gesture of goodwill and as I said all the staff were great but definitely won't be going back.

My second visit in two months. Knowledgeable friendly and efficient staff. Great menu well cooked. Wine list is a bit short. But I noticed we were the only table drinking wine. So I guess it's what the local market want. (On that subject, wine glasses are a bit chunky). Compared to other similar places in the area this is way above the competition. Will go agsin next month.

Service was good but food poor. Some of the food was cold!."Medley of veg" consisted of peas,green beans and a bit of cabbage!.Very basic for a restaurant which charges upmarket prices for the area.Have had far better meals at Wetherspoons!

Called for lunch having been before and had a great meal. Today we were met by a surly barman who couldn't have been less welcoming. No organisation or communication, didn't stay and won't bother again. Very disappointing

This was our first visit; it might not be our last! Charming atmosphere. Very busy; we booked in advance.

I regularly visit this restaurant as the menu choice is excellent and the food very good. It is also very convenient for my disabled father. Yesterday however I was amazed to find that the car park is now full of outside tables and although looks very inviting is no longer disabled friendly. My father struggled over the rough stones and almost fell. I did suggest that there should be some disabled parking spaces but was told to pull the car up close to the old car park and help my dad out and then park up. I did this on the way out. Brought my car up close and then left it to get my dad. I did have a bad look from another driver who struggled to get his car past. Not a practical option. It is no longer a place I would choose to go with anyone disabled unfortunately unless there is another person to help.

Have eaten here a number of times, food generally good but had to send a main course back, it was only luke warm. Handled well, but avoidable.

Visited this great little restaurant with a group of 9 for a birthday meal!

A truly appalling bowl of over cooked linguine was presented to me for mains. How the cook thought it was fit for a customer is beyond me. A bowl of congealed gloop. That’s £15 please. I’d be ashamed to have fed this to a famished unloved stray cat.

My friend and I went to the Angel at 7.40 on a Saturday night. There appeared to be plenty of available tables in the restaurant but we were told by staff they could not seat us. There also appeared to be lots of room in the bar so I asked for a bar meal. Again the answer was no room. This was very disappointing and hardly the way to welcome visitors. No explanation was given but perhaps I imagined all the empty tables!

Been here a few times for pub lunch with my family i always have the lasagne its that good, portion sizes are very good and service has always been good. Unfortunately i can't say the same for the desserts we have tried the marshmallow cheesecake and the cold hot chocolate and couldn't finish either of them as they weren't enjoyable, nothing else on the dessert menu fancied, could do with more options would rather pick up a mc flurry on the way home!

Tastefully refurbished this has gone more up market. The staff are young and enthusiastic. It's unusal, in this area, to have waiting staff who are so knowledgeable about the food. A bit pricey, but the food is well cooked and there is plenty of it.

It is essentially pub food and generous portions. Service was slow and staff complained loudly about tips they were receiving which was awkward.

Booked here for lunch and was not disappointed. Children’s meal was absolutely ginormous and well worth the money and the main meals and starters for the adults were really good.

The food tasted ok but was not worth the price. The drinks are very expensive to. I prefer the prince of wales around the corner.

Loved this thick walled ancient pub, free ample parking, rooms to let, wide range of pump ales and beers, extensive menu lunchtime or evening. Very freindly professional service. Chicken Curry and huge fish and cracking chips sorted us out.

My husband and I ate here last week for my birthday. We've been previously but not for a couple of years. The food was outstanding, we both had the Duo of Pork. Staff were efficient and friendly. Will definitely return!

The Angel has been under new management for almost a year now and is consistently good. Food is tasty and very reasonably priced. Staff are helpful and welcoming. There's a special area inside for people with dogs with water and dog biscuits available. It always has a buoyant atmosphere, boasts plenty of outdoor and is set in a beautiful area near Kenfig Nature Reserve.

This is a great eating place. We went as a family to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed with our evening. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The service was excellent with the food served hot. There is a good choice on the menu and I found it to be reasonably priced. We had thoroughly enjoyable evening. Suggest you book a table if you go on a Saturday evening.

Visited this pub today with my husband; he had the lasagne which was rubbery and under cooked . I had the steak pie, with little filling covered by a greasy pastry. We ordered the “posh chips “ . What a con ! The only ‘posh ‘ thing about them , if you like that sort of thing , was the basket they arrived in . They were frozen chips , and likely the cheapest brand available . On paying , I told a member of staff that the meal was poor, he replied “ sorry to hear that “ and wished us s good day . He completely ignored our complaint . We will not return to this pub , food is over rated and over priced . My recommendation is to steer clear of this poor eating experience !

Great place to call in for dinner with friends. Good choice of dishes from the main menu as well as specials board. Food was delicious and thank you to Eraena and the team for looking after us.

We parked in their car park and did a 8 mile walk around Kenfig burrows to include the sands and then had lunch here afterwards.Two had the cod and chips with mushy peas which were very big and tasty. I had fillet of hake with a side of rice plus a small jug of a tomato and herb based sauce with some small fried onions and green peppers which complemented the hake very well. One friend had the scampi with fries and peas which was delicious I was told. My 4th friend had ham, 2 eggs and chips again very nice. We were too full for desserts. Being still on a 'dry' January the only alcohol free beer was becks blue in bottles which was fine but I would have preferred a better choice than just one sort. There was the usual doombar and bass from the hand pump which was enjoyed by two of us. The other two had diet cola.

The meal was stunning! The quality of the food was outstanding. The lamb and the beef were favourite of the day and the starters went down very well too. The Glamorgan sausage was very tasty indeed. Everyone enjoyed even the grandchildren who munched their way through children's portions of a chicken and beef dinner. The service was very attentive and all very polite and professional. Thank you to Alex and the team for looking after us and look forward to our next visit.
