During a business trip I stayed at the Village Hotel. Since I didn't want to go into the crowded city center of Cardiff on a Friday night, I decided to go to this pub, which is only about 5 km from the hotel. The establishment was well attended and noisy, but there were still few free tables. The pub consists of several rooms and winding corridors, so you can also choose a quieter spot in a corner. I ordered ten chicken wings with blue cheese sauce and a buttermilk chicken burger with fries and a drink. The drink and food were delivered in a reasonable time. The chicken wings were hot, crispy and meaty and had a pleasant flavor. The sauce, however, had almost no taste. The burger was okay, but the chicken was too dry. At no time did the waiter come to the table and ask if everything was okay with the food, the table was also not cleaned. Of course, we know that Wetherspoons doesn't stand for the best quality and service, but they could really put a little more effort into it to make this a better place.

Great Wetherspoons. Lunch time visit. Very clean, very warm atmosphere, great service and take good food. Be careful you don't miss the entrance to the car park when coming off the roundabout though.

Used to be our local pub for years. Quality was going down,so we decided not to come here, we returned today after a year and a half horrible experience. I would not recommend it to anyone to eat or drink in here! After this long time, dirty dishes were everywhere, and stuff could not care less about anything. Ordered a Warm Brownie... I got an ice-cold one. Stuff walked off. I need it to chace her so I can speak up. When I did, making faces and challenging if it's really cold. Come back with a clearly microwave mess and walk off! Complaints have been made, and we received a horrible attitude. It's one of the worst pub in Cardiff!

Had onion rings and drinks here while waiting to collect someone. Forgot to register our car in the car park though and only realised when we left so we went back and spoke to a member of staff who said 'don't worry about it' but I am worried I'm going to get a fine. Anyone know if it will be OK and I won't get a fine.

I visited with friends from dental school for lunch and a Beer... Good 4h free parking outside but like most of these chain pubs this one inside is pretty soulless with a cut and paste menu and decorations. Lunch Menü OK incl. added drinks. Pick Up and pay. Tablet serviced. Fish&Chips OK. Burger medium. Curry specially Katsu Not really recommended.

Came here for breakfast with family, lovely pub. The toilets weren’t either up/down a flight of stairs which was a nice change, staff were nice food was slightly cold. Parking is tricky as it’s on a roundabout

Average Wetherspoons with national beer choice and only 1 or 2 local ales. New manager Dan. Still there after a couple of years. We'll see any if there are any changes soon. I suspect Tim Martin controls what happens closely in any pub. Breakfast was good today, and coffee machines were serving at different temperatures. At least they had chocolate in them this time. Improved on last time.

I visited with friends for a breakfast and a catch-up. Like most of these chain pubs they a pretty soulless with a cut and paste menu and decorations. The same, quiet music is playing and even the seats are generic. I grew up visiting proper valley pubs and rugby clubs with weird, random but unique personalities so I don't really see the appeal with a weatherspoons as anything other than a big posh cafe that serves beer. In your 'local' you can get a bit of small talk and banter with the staff but in these places they are blank faced robots with no personalities who probably don't know the regulars names or what they do for a living. The breakfast was really good but I can't get past the cafe with beer feeling.

Enjoyed Gammon Eggs peas and chips followed by Apple crumble and custard

Curry was a bit vesta like but filled the gap . Breakfast was very good . Coffee was excellent

Can't fault this place, it's a good example of a busy Wetherspoons, turning into car park can be a bit 'hairy' prepare for it and you'll be fine. Food, mainly breakfasts I've had, is tasty and cheap I think. Love it. Good coffee too.

You're average Spoons chain, interior decor hasn't changed in the last decade plus, so could do with a refresh but apart from that fairly standard.

I have been rather pleased with the service and treatment here for the few times I visited the pub!

Female Manager has a disgusting attitude on her. After being served on multiple occasions and then deciding to not to serve us. Wouldnt provide us with a plastic cup after serving us but telling us to leave, to then have a altercation with other party member and have personal issue with us all! Not very proffesional. Disappointing representation of a 'manager'

It is a nice pub where you can eat quite cheap, although the food quality matches the price (as expected).

Some problems with the tills, took an age to get served. Customers patience was wearing thin!!!

Needed to feed 7 crew members at short notice so was very much appreciated still serving food after 9 p.m. when so many had already stopped. Food was very good as well.

I haven't eaten, nor have I experienced the atmosphere because I like to get served and head outdoors to the smoking area. However, I have seen the food produced and the joy on the people's faces that get to tuck into their tasty treats. It's safe to say the food goes down a treat, just like a virgin at the end of school disco.

Make sure you remember to register your car reg details in the car park.

Had a pint of Leffe (as usual), very nice @ £4.20.

How come this place isn't busier it's really well run

Went in on a Monday evening, was quite busy, queue at the bar for food was long so we opted to order on the app. Friends we were with ordered at the bar, their food came first but the order was totally wrong, I think there may have been crossed wires when the order was taken, our food came, the mixed grills were awful to be honest, meat was overcooked, meal wasn't very hot and there was an egg missing off one of them, the staff seemed a bit rude when asked for clean cutlery. Some of the cutlery was dirty. With the mix up with our friends, one of them was waiting over an hour for his order. The place was clearly understaffed. Won't visit again unfortunately.

I mean, you pay for what you get. They are clearly understaffed. So food took so so long to come out and when it then came it half of it was wrong. And when we tried to tell a waitress, she gave us the most deadpan 'I don't care Face' then took forever to fix the problem. It's also a bit awkward to get to in the car especially if you are not from the area

Can’t go wrong with a spoons can you? My partner was able to get a pint for less than £2, which is unheard of where we currently live. Will definitely be returning next time we’re in Cardiff.

Decent breakfast for the money 💰

You get what you pay for with Spoons, but forgetting a starter (back to the bar and chase) then forgetting a main (back to the bar and chase) which finally arrived after everyone else has finished eating is just poor. ☹

Another great wetherspoons pub with a great selection of drinks. It was really busy when we visited and couldn't get a table but the staff were very friendly and efficient. Nice pub 👍🏻😁

One of my favourite places to go. Its a great little place and the service is always top notch.

Always good value and the service very good, however that is where the good ends and the bad starts. The whole place needs a good scrub, the assortment of mismatched tables and chairs an eyesore and the carpets throughout in need of a severe clean. Overall the theme of the place is very dated with a large portrayal of Welsh politicians Bevan, Foot etc just the sort of backdrop to brighten the ambiance.

I have eaten here many times and the food is consistently excellent. The waiting staff are attentive, pleasant and efficient. A very good value place to eat and drink.

Classic Westherspoons. Could be better for cyclists if you could access the beer garden from outside.

Just had a vegetarian breakfast which tasted of fish, I sent the sausages back, which were inedible. The replacement sausages were just as bad, so we just left. The place was dirty and smelt. The whole time we were there, no tables were cleared or cleaned, and the manager clearly didn't care. She refused to taste the food. All in all, dirty, depressing, and unlove.

Just over £2 for a pint of Worthington is incredible VFM. Location on a traffic island near the busiest junction in Cardiff is not ideal. However, you don't notice once you are inside.

Went to this pub with my friend only to get shouted at by a lager lady, (wearing glasses with a Union Jack shirt) after showing her my ID she repeatedly shouted at me saying she doesn’t care and she wants to see both of our IDs (my friend is 27). I told her we only wanted two cokes!!! Only for her to repeatedly shout in my face completely ignorant to the fact she had seen my ID and we only wanted soft drinks! Completely unexpected and unnecessary behaviour from this employee and quite frankly ruined our night.

Food is a good size and good price. Can get busy later in the day.

Visited here on Wednesday 26 April for my mother's 87th birthday. No access entry for wheelchairs as step into the pub and no hand rail or slope, There was 11 of us, we wrote all our meals out including drinks, we went to order our food only to find out 1 person taking food orders and also serving the drinks, which took ages. There was no cutlery or serviettes so had to get our own. When the food eventually arrived some of them were cold and some returned. The decor is drab and dreary. No sign of food or glasses taking away so had to place all our dirty plates onto another table. The only good thing about our experience was the drink (alcohol or soft) drinks were included in the meal price. Would never go back here.

Curry club at the Aneurin Bevan, plenty of choice, good quality, tasty and relatively inexpensive, I had the kaysu curry with grilled chicken. Very nice.

Had the American 6oz burger. Tiny thrown together thing really not worth what I paid. Can't believe I'm saying this about wetherspoons but very poor over priced for what I got.

Good pub to visit. Hasn’t been there for many years but the staff were friendly. Nice atmosphere and had the rugby on which was great. Good choice of drinks from the bar as you would expect.

This place is all over the place. Met family there on Sunday food cold over cooked and staff never once cleaned the tables from past guests. I'm sorry but the staff need training and the kitchen needs an overall. Also maybe be good idea to hire additional staff for Sundays.

Situated on an Island in the middle of two very busy roads. You have three lanes on one side and five on the opposite side. You have to have your wits about you when you attempt to drive into the car park. Sadly, they weren't able to serve take-away coffee, although I did quite fancy sitting down to some food. The staff I spoke to were very pleasant. Unlike many JDWs there didn't seem to be a lot of daytime drinkers. I visited again to have lunch with my sister. This Place seems to have gone down hill very badly. Inside it was grubby, tables were uncleared throughout the dining areas. Sticky and wet with spilled drinks. The bar was covered in slops too. The food was great (fish and chips) but not a grain of salt in the building - maybe they had salt in the kitchen but nothing for diners! They finally got round to clearing the messy tables about an hour after we arrived. The place was hardly busy. Slobby management and Slobby staff I'm afraid. No excuse for it.

(went at breakfast time and got a large breakfast and eggs Benedict) TLDR: The food was alright for a spoons. Some of the front of house staff seem inexperienced. Waitress brought me the wrong kind of monster and didn't let us know where the coffee/tea machine was. At the tea machine there were no stirrers out. Half of the toast was burnt and the other half wasn't toasted at all. There was also no butter out. On the eggs Benedict, the egg was overcooked.

Went for Breakfast this morning, the eating area is run down and can do with some rejuvenation its like something from the coal miming days. the table we sat at had the number plate missing went to another and that was the same but it was handwritten on the spot. The meus were stained and just grubby to the touch not the best in hygiene. Ordered two regular breakfasts, believe me this is typical road side standards. My Wifes bacon was grey in colour she didnt eat it, mine was 80% fat. The mushroom were two large sized flat ones which looked they had been flattened to much and slicing through the grease made them tacky. Not sure why they cant serve button mushroom which are the norm and much nicer. The sausage was ok but nothing to say that was really tasty . The condiment area had no Red sauce but a few Brown sauce sachets with mustard and salt and pepper packets. I thought these sachets had gone years ago. Would like to see proper sauce dispensers and not the sachet rubbish. Would I go back NO , you get what you pay for the whole lot was around £11 Better off paying the few quid more to get food that is of a higher standard like at the Fino Lounge , the surroundings are nicer , No sachets , Tastier bacon and sausages. You only make the mistake once and this was a mistake. Roadkill is better

Came here for lunch recently (early Jan 23) as part of a large party (about 17 of us). We walked over from UHW after lectures. It was easy to get to on foot and there is also parking and an outdoor seating area with pretty lights which we ignored (it's winter ❄️😅). The inside reminded me of an old man's working club with its high ceilings and old fashioned decor, and it was clear that some of the customers there were regulars. Some of them were giving us dirty looks as though we had sat in their seats which made the atmosphere a little prickly! We ordered food but were told there would be a 45 minute wait. Not ideal but we weren't really going to lose sleep over it. 55 minutes later and while some of our group had received their food, it seemed as though smaller parties who had come in after us were receiving their orders quicker. We asked the waitress/server who assured us this was not the case. It was an hour and ten before I received my food and one of the girls (one of the first to place her order) didn't receive her burger until 15 minutes after that. By that time, some of our group had finished their meals and demolished a pud! I ordered a tuna melt panini with chips. My food was piping hot and I have to say the chips were some of the best I have ever tasted. Very unexpected from a 'Spoons! The panini was tasty too but a little salad garnish might have cheered the plate up a bit - so 4 stars for the meal. Though that's obviously personal preference. The bar itself had a good range of drinks including Thatchers on tap which is what I opted for. I wish I had clocked the name of the guy behind the bar as he was awesome and definitely made the experience better than it would otherwise have been. He was very friendly, chatty, knowledgeable and helpful and clearly born for a customer facing role (about 5ft 8" or 9", slim build, mousey, wavy hair, about 26 years old - if you read this, thank you 🙏). If I could base my review on him alone, I'd have given 5 stars ✨. I feel bad giving 3 stars as we hadn't booked and things might have been different if we had, and the food was lovely. The only thing that let it down, apart from the wait were the evils we were getting from the regulars. Its a public house people. You don't own it! Overall I would recommend. But if you are a large party, book first. 🤘

Really busy only 1 staff member taking orders, no cups for the hot drinks had to wait for them to bring over clean cups. Ordered 4 large breakfast with black pudding all brought our different times two were given to wrong table, asked for the black pudding that was ordered and was brought out to us literally as we were finishing out food, understaffed no idea of what was going on and didn't seem to be any member of staff raking charge of the situation had to speak to different staff everytime to see what was going on.

I had a lovely rare steak, it is a nice place to go for a meal and drinks.

OK. Let's get one thing straight. This is a J.D. Wetterpants pub sited on an island with a busy road all around it. How else could I have arrived other than in a car? I parked in the car-park to purchase a take-away coffee that I drank while parked-up listening to the radio. A few days later I received a letter from the 'Car Park Management' company advising that I had used the car-park for an unspecified, but implied "unacceptable reason", and that I was being cautioned. How they came to this decision I do not know. They rely on a CCTV system which is obviously not fit-for-purpose as it can't differentiate between a customer and a parking offender. As a final word on the matter, if you do receive a letter from a Private Parking Co., please be advised that it is a civil matter and you are being 'INVITED' to pay a Parking Charge. It's not a Penalty Charge Notice which can only be issued by Police and Councils. Think hard about what you do.

Nice crowd in there and good atmosphere

Visited on 6/1/23 - customer service was appalling. Having to wait 5 minutes to get served because a member of staff is too busy talking to someone on the floor having a personal conversation. We were a large party of 10+, about 5 of us had to send back hot drinks because they tasted disgusting. Tables were left uncleaned after people had vacated for far too long to the point new customers were coming in and having to relocate the old dishes etc to other tables for them to sit down. Also this is no fault of the staff here but the app is showing an out of date seasonal menu which led to disappointment at the unavailability of a lot of choices that looked good when browsing.
