Good baked camembert to start but the carvery was very poor. Scrag end of beef and dried up turkey. Veg very average. Only one guy working the busy restaurant. He did his best. Food is usually good there in the week. Very disappointing

Been coming here since last November when I moved south and always been welcomed as is my girlfriend the food is great as is the beer you'll as be sure of getting a warm welcome

Met friends here for the Sunday lunch carvery, great value. Ryan and Adam made us very welcome. Couple of things we did not like was the beef was very over cooked for us, but not everyone like it rare, and the Turkey had run out! This was made up by an extra helping of pork and crackling. Portions are very generous. Service was good and the singer in the afternoon was excellent. Wine and beer was OK too. We plan to go back

Carvery was excellent, had a chap singing live and sang some realy good 50s music. The atmosphere was brilliant but I would of preferred if the restaurant area did not alow dogs as it is really annoying when your trying to enjoy your meal and dogs start barking and I suffer with allergies badly and dogs trigger this off. Over all a good experience but next time I will definitely find a local pub / restaurant that has a pet free section 😉

Fabulous meal with friends on Christmas Eve afternoon. Food was exceptional as was the service from our waiter who was polite, friendly and very efficient. He was the only waiter working due to staff sickness and he should be commended for his professionalism. Would definitely recommend The Anchor and will be returning very soon. Thank you all for getting our Christmas celebrations off to a great start.

Good selection and reasonable price, not much vegetarian or vegan options.

We booked this place for a Christmas Family Meal and we cannot fault the service we received from Adam. They took the time and effort to decorate the table which was a nice extra touch! There was 12 of us in total and the amount of food that was brought out could feed an army and we were not short for choice at all! Nobody complained at all about their choices. From personal experiences if you have a roast at many pubs these days you have to ask for extra gravy and it’s not always available but we had little gravy boats brought out which was great! This place could be considered a rare find and needs to support of local customers it definitely has foundations to be fantastic!

What a brilliant place. Arranged a family meal at short notice. A good, tasty and wholesome carvery. With a good alternative menu. Including a childrens selection. Very pleasant and good service. Would thoroughly recommend and will be back

My son, a few friends and I thought we would try The Anchor pub in Sidlesham a few weeks ago. We went for their roast, and I can honestly say we were not disappointed. We had 3 choices of meats and unlimited vegetable. When there we were told they do a roast on a Wednesday from 6pm (same again, 3 meat choices etc...) and we have been every week since. It really is value for money and worth a visit mid-week. My son is a fussy eater and said, “it is the best roast he has ever had in a pub/restaurant”. The pub has real charm, friendly, local approach and the roast is delicious. It is well worth a visit and would highly recommend!!

Went for a Sunday carvery, the place was fairly empty, with just one other table. Ordered the carvery and drinks at 6:00pm and we were told that we couldn’t just go up to the carvery to get the food, even though it was already out? we had to wait for the chefs to invite us up to be served?? By 6:20 we had neither the drinks or the food. No one else was being served at the carvery and the chefs were all just sat down in the kitchen. I asked the waiter and he said that the chefs were waiting for Yorkshire puddings to be brought out? I said that I didn’t want any yorkshires, but he told me I still couldn’t go up until the chefs said it was ok. I waited a little longer, no chef and no drink, so I called the Walnut Tree who booked us in straight away, we then got up and left. It was about 6:30. By 7:00pm we had been seated, served 2 courses and were on coffees at the Walnut Tree. What a completely different experience! Awesome carvery. Awesome pub in general. Can't recommend enough :).

Went for a Sunday pint but they’d run out of bitter! Waited for a fair while at the bar to order, only to discover no bitter available. At least the cider was nicely chilled and the crisps were not stale. This time the fire was lit and plenty of customers eating lunch. Younger staff need to improve customer service - perhaps need more supervision or training?

Great venue, good atmosphere and the people serving were marvellous. Big problem , no staff. Understaffed and no manager typically staff that were there could not have been bettered for aptitude, friendliness and skill , food was late, although very good, haphazard at best.

My friends and I have used this pub/restaurant several times over the last few years, and as it’s usually on Sunday, we opt for the carvery. We booked a table for 3.45 on 12th November 2023. We arrived on time and were shown to our table which was in the main hall, and seemed rather busy inside. The manager told us that someone would be with us shortly to take our order, no mention of (may I get you some drinks) which is common courtesy in most places. After waiting at least 15 mins, my friend’s husband decided to go and order our drinks from the bar area as it seemed we’d been forgotten about. Just before he returned, which took him (10 mins to get the drinks) I called one of the staff over to say we were still waiting for someone to take our food order. He told us he’d be with us in two minutes. We opted for 3 smaller carvery’s for OAP’s (although mine was the nut roast, as I’m vegetarian. My friends son ordered the smoked paprika chicken & chorizo skewers with pitta bread etc. We were then told we’d have to wait to be called up for the carvery. Another 20 minutes went by and we were finally called. My vegetarian option was ready on the glass above the carvery, so I continued to add the veg to my plate. I could see my friend talking to man carving the meat, who explained to her that there was no turkey left and she would have to wait another 45 as the other one was still cooking. She has dietary issues, and turkey was the only meat she could eat. Her husband was behind me with a “Tea Plate” with a few slices of meat on, so I said to him, are they giving another plate for the vegetables. He said “no, apparently this is it, a child’s plate!” The size of the plate you’d fit a bread roll on! There is no way he could get even one potato and veg on it. How can they justify a charge of £10.95 for a plate so small. They both decided to go without as this should have been explained when order was taken. I’ve ordered children’s carvery’s for my grandchildren in other other pubs, and the plates are only slightly smaller than the adults plate, and usually half the price. This child’s plate was fit for a 2 year old, absolute joke! This should all have been explained when taking our order. Customer service was extremely poor, and atmosphere non existent. Management take note!

I feel very sorry to have to be honest but unfortunately we didn't have the best experience at the Anchor today. First of all the bad points - the service today was not good at all. Everyone is very friendly, but it was so slow and lots of errors were made. We ordered our drinks, which my mum ordered an Aspall. The drinks took half an hour to arrive and when they did they bought to us an Old Mout. We questioned this as it wasn't what we ordered and we were told they didn't have Aspall. My husbands coke also didn't arrive so they had to go back for that. We ordered starters and our mains and then had to wait for another half an hour or so for them to arrive. We asked where they were and they were bought out a few minutes after. We were then waiting another 15 minutes or so for the plates to be cleared, which was actually done by the carvery chef because he noticed we'd been waiting so long. We didn't have to wait too long for mains again because the chef on the carvery took control of our table at that point. When our plates were cleared away we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, which didn't arrive, so we had to ask again. Desserts were again about another half an hour and were also bought out by another one of the chefs who apologised for the service we had received and explained they were busier than they had expected and that there were a lot of new people working and in training. We asked for our bill when our plates were cleared and again it didn't come, so we had to ask a second time. There were quite a few other tables that were waiting quite a while for their drinks/orders/orders were wrong. The good - the pub is beautiful, really nicely decorated and warm and welcoming. Despite the errors the hospitality team were all very friendly. A special shout out to the chef on the carvery who was really helpful and as mentioned above, noticed we'd been waiting for a long time. He was also very personable and was talking to everyone he was serving. I also appreciated the explanation and apology from the chef who bought us our puddings. The food was superb, couldn't complain about anything we ate. All in all, I think it's a shame that we had really slow service as it overshadowed the great food and made it a poor experience. There were a lot of staff walking around but nothing really seemed to get done and when it was it wasn't done correctly. I do think that this place could be so good, if the service is improved. I do understand the difficulties with having new team members etc however things just didn't flow and we were in the pub for 3 and a half hours due to how long we had to wait for everything. I would come back, because there are lots of good points but for the sake of the pub and for those who were working really hard, the service definitely needs improving.

This was our third visit. All staff made you feel welcome, they were helpful and attentive. We shared the squid as a starter followed by sausages & mash and an Anchor burger. Food was excellent quality and served promptly. We will be back.

We went yesterday for sunday carvery me wife and kids staff were great and the food was spot on couldn't fault it i went up twice the guy serving carvery was a top bloke thank you very much was best meal we had all weekend 👍

Thought we would treat ourselves to a Carvery as I remember it being good years ago. The food wasn’t too bad. A few improvements could be made. The staff were very un-friendly, I thought quite rude to be honest. Asked what drinks we wanted barely as we were seated, asked to have 2 minutes that then turned to 10 minutes. Then I had to call to order food as we were just forgotten about. Drinks were abruptly put down on the table. Then was rushed to leave, clearing the table abruptly. Teenage staff need to learn some manners and be trained properly!

Went for Boxing day lunch, and have booked again this year. Atmosphere and staff were fab.

Good food and beer. Will visit again next trip.

Fantastic Calvert,. A few years ago my husband and i visited The Anchor. Unfortunately we was the only people in the pub. It was a cold atmosphere. The greeting was none existent. We came passed a few days ago and noticed many cars and a sign about Carvery board WEDNESDAYS AND Sundays. We decided to go back and sample. As we pulled up outside we was AMAZED. Many people we scurrying to get in. As we entered there was a lady greeting everyone with a wide smile. Asking if there was a free table ,she did say it is better to book as they are normally so very busy. She managed to squeeze us in We had the fresh beer carvery. The system is straight forward. Atmosphere is comfortable, friendly , The quantity and quality of food is excellent. Service excellent. Customer service excellent. Meeting and greeting excellent. Can not Recommend ENOUGH. BUT MAKE SURE YOU BOOK. 5*****

Great for food or just a drink We were staying in the area and were lucky with the weather so decided to have a pub lunch …..faultless and very enjoyable and tasty food We returned again on the Friday early evening for good food and drinks again faultless We were lucky enough to meet the owner Victoria and what a friendly lady Chatted for a while and all in all a lovely time We will definitely be back when next in the area

We had booked, as it was my birthday, but it wasn't the best of meals. My husband couldn't order the starter he wanted and I couldn't order my main. My husband asked if he could just get some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and was told they didn't have olive oil! He was offered a side of garlic bread. The rest of the food was okay. Service was average.

Quite pub at sildesham hard working staff gives you very good service even when it gets busy very good food lots of choice big meals best to book on Fridays and Saturday's just spent the weekend there and it was very busy

Had a meal 19/08/23. The pub was very clean and tidy, the staff were very friendly and the food was very tasty. Prices were average and good value for money. Will definitely be going back.

Not a very welcoming experience at all. We didn’t book a table just stopped on the off chance for a table for two for Sunday Carvery. The lady at the desk was on her mobile when we walked in (not a big deal) but when we she finished there was no hello or smile at all. She said she would squeeze us in even though when we went to the main dining area to get our carvery there was loads of empty tables. We were in the pub area and there was no air in there at all. No windows open and it was hot and stuffy. I went to the bathroom and when I returned we had our ticket for the Carvery so went up and got it. When we sat down and began to eat it the lady who had greeted us when we arrived came over and asked us if we had been called up to get our carvery which we replied ‘no we weren’t aware that’s what we had to do’. Feeling like two told off school children she just mumbled something and then walked off. Again no smile or anything to make us feel welcomed or comfortable. The dinner was ok as carvery’s go, I’ve had better but also had a lot worse. The fact that we were sweating so much because of lack of air didn’t really make it enjoyable. The young girl who served us our drinks was very pleasant and a lot more smily and approachable than the other lady. When we left I said thank you and goodbye to the lady who had been so rude and was completely ignored. Unfortunately we wouldn’t return as it certainly wasn’t a warm welcome or a thank you and goodbye.

Perfect we (wife and I) went for a quick bite whilst discussing a new purchase we were about to make for a motorhome. Had dog with us, friendly but excitable young lab. Staff were brilliant, very dog friendly, food was lovely and priced well, parking excellent.

Fabulous home cooked food in a traditional pub setting ( there is a dining room but it’s too open , bright and loud for me personally) . Could not fault the food or portion sizes , the Carvery is an absolute must with a lovely...

Complete disaster - forgot to process our food order - 1:30 after arriving we had to ask where food was - no waiting staff had even thought to check about food, or extra drinks

Be aware they overbook and forget orders , ordered food and waited politely for an hour and a half and not one staff member noticed we hadn't received any food !😡

We stayed at a nearby campsite and ate here twice for an evening meal. The beef burger was delicious, freshly made and a proper burger. The chips (skin on) were perfect, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside and so tasty. The onion rings were epic! We didn't try a dessert so can't comment, but if the mains were anything to go by then should also be a winner. Friendly, helpful and hospitable staff.

We were greated by a staff member at the door who was quite abrupt with us that we hadn't made a reservation to have lunch. After looking at various things she then took us to dining area. And seated us I asked my friends at that point if they would like to go somewhere else as we weren't made to feel welcome and it felt like because we just turned up to see if they had availability this was an inconvenience. We were left with the menus and we all ordered our drinks and our meals about 10 minutes later the staff member returned and told us we had to wait to be called up for the carvery. There was a couple of people getting food and that was all the carvery chef was stood behind the carvery and we sat there for a while before asking could we come up as we didn't understand what we were actually waiting for we were served our meals and when we sat down the chef and a waitress were picking at the meat with there hands 😨 the waitress that seated us was continually starring at our table and makeing us feel uncomfortable. Another waitress sat a table next to us and explained that when they were ready they could go and get there meal. Myself and one of my group went outside to have a vape and and we were littrelly watched outside untill we come back in like we were going to do a runner bearing in mind that two of our friends were still sat at the table with all our stuff we went back in paid for our food and left. We were left really disappointed at how we felt we had been treated and that we were made to feel un trustworthy and a nuisance there was four of us at the table with ages between 36-65 we definitely will not be returning to this location when we come back to selsey in the future.

What a disappointment, we loved the place last year but returned on Thursday evening. At best the service could be described as shambloic, the wait to get served at the bar was interminable with them running out of the only draught beer before 2000hrs which was not replaced all evening. The food which last year was great was average and took over an hour to arrive. All in all a disappointing and dismal evening, we won't be returning.

Great experience at the Anchor. Carvery was delicious with lots of gluten free options available. Poor staff were clearly short but worked hard and service was good. Reasonable price for what we got. Previously came and had salad and chicken and chorizo skewed, which were lovely. Highly recommend and will return.

Got to say very impressed. Our meals were delicious and we're very well presented. We didn't have the carvery but it looked very nice. My only gripe was having to wait to get served our drinks at the bar seemed like ages waiting around but this will not stop us from coming back again for certain.

Don't let the dour grey frontage deter you from visiting a very pleasant establishment capable of sating and slaking your wants. Choice of eating in the large bar or the very large restaurant.

This is a really great place to eat. Nice relaxed atmosphere, staff friendly and helpful. Food was delicious with a good selection for veggies. Very dog friendly he was given a water bowl and some biscuits. Will definitely return and thoroughly recommend it.

Found this pub on the way back from Selsey. We were suprised to see all day carvery on a Wednesday lunch time so we gave it a go. The carvery was delicous! The staff were also helpful and friendly.

Great little place. I've eaten here twice and both times the food has been very good. I don't eat meat so opted for the nut roast and veggie gravy. Plenty of choice of carvery vegetables - carrots, cabbage, roast potatoes, roast parsnips then there's also a leek and cheese gratin, pork meat stuffing, cauliflower cheese and Yorkies. Good service and reasonably priced. Adult carvery was about £15 (I think) and children's £10.95 but if you're little one isn't bothered about the trimmings, go for the kids menu. Good sized car park and small beer garden.

My partner and I stopped off at this establishment on the way back to our caravan after a day of exploring.... We thoroughly enjoyed the food at the time.... Fast forward to the evening and my partner (who had the prawns) went to bed early due to feeling sicky... I woke up this morning to find him suffering from full blown food poisoning!!! It was our first full day of our 5 day holiday and now... It looks like we might as well go home if we have to stay in due to sickness!!! So thanks for that!

First visit for an early evening dinner on a mid-April Monday. Understandably quiet in the dining room (maybe choose to sit in the bar next time). Friendly service and the food was excellent, turkey roast dinner looked good, and my steak and ale pie was absolutely packed with steak. Good value at 2023 prices. Will be going back.

Found this pub on the way back from visiting Selsey. I had a turkey roast and my husband had fish and chips. Both were excellent, tasty, plenty and hot. Would recommend.
