Overall a disappointing dining experience. Tasteless, dry and overcooked. Two fillet steaks, one ordered medium-rare and one medium. Both came out medium to well. Most dry and tasteless cut of fillet I have experienced. Truffle fries didn’t appear to have even been drizzled with any truffle oil. Based on personal experience it was a waste of money and I certainly wouldn’t return.

Had quite a disappointing experience at the Adamsen last night while out to dinner with my boyfriend. We both ordered the burger and when they arrived the buns were completely stale, and the burger patty was chewy and burnt. For an £80 dinner, this was quite disappointing. When we politely complained about the quality of the food, the manager was sent over and asked what we wanted her to do about it. They did kindly offer to compensate a free dessert, however considering my burger was not eaten and was frankly inedible, I would have really appreciated not being charged for that item instead. However, the cocktails were good, and the staff were very kind.

While eating duck, I chewed on something that looked like a strange metal and when I asked about it, they said it was a bullet fragment and that it was a common occurrence. I think they said it was something they caught hunting, but even though it was a common occurrence in this restaurant, we were really surprised, but the explanation of the male employee, whether it was a waiter or a manager, was absurd and he said 'that could happen' and left without even saying sorry. A great restaurant that cooks even bullet fragments, whether wild duck is more delicious or not. The mussel dish wasn't seasoned properly and I couldn't eat it all, so I asked for it to be packed, and the waitress brought it to me, but when I came back empty-handed, she said that I couldn't pack it according to restaurant regulations. And they didn't even bring me the food I brought. I also lost the chance to eat the leftover food. I calculated it to be approximately 290 pounds for two people, but there is no reason to recommend it considering the price. Among the restaurants in St.Andrews University, it is a very expensive place. Above all, the customer service is not very friendly and the price is not appropriate for the taste or quality of the food. However, the restaurant looks a bit luxurious, so it seems like it's a restaurant that people come to once in a while. At least the salad and dessert are worth eating. I visited this restaurant twice. The first time was delicious, so I came the second time and the food wasn't as good as the previous time. While eating duck, I chewed on something that looked like a strange metal piece and when I asked about it, they said it was a bullet fragment and that it was a common occurrence in this place ,we were really surprised , because we almost ate metal bullet fragment from duck. But the explanation of the male employee, whether it was a waiter or a manager, was absurd and he said with very annoyed face 'that could happen' then shortly left like wind without even saying sorry. I've been here in the past and always enjoyed it. However, I would describe it as almost scandalously poor value now. Ordered the rib-eye steak at £36.95 and have a look at the size of it. It's tiny and about 1cm thick. It comes with nothing - fries are £5 and if you want sauce - £4.50! I have never seen anywhere charge £4.50 for sauce. Green beans - £7! To add to this I asked for it Medium Rare and it was on the blue side of rare. It's fine - I don't mind it like that, but it's not what I asked for. It's just a bit embarrassing for Scotland that our restaurants are putting out food like this. I can't imagine what all the Americans in St Andrews would think of this poor effort.

This is our third visit and we love it (and we're quite picky when it comes to restaurants). The highlight was the halibut, perfectly cooked and shining. Enjoyed watching chef checking it was done right and plating it up very professionally. Knows his stuff. Excellent white rioja too. Just one comment for our server - not everything is "for the table". Maybe the water and nibbles are but the food and wine is for us :) Service was decent though and on a busy night too. We'll be back.

Prices have gone up massively since our last visit;33£ for sole,20£ for a champagne cocktail! Our burgers were tasty .Needed more aioli with the squid. Overall,a nice lunch, but not special anymore.

The Adamson has been a favourite of ours for both family dinners and date nights, but left today feeling a bit disappointed. We waited at the door for a while before anyone came to see us and direct us to our table. The water for the table arrived promptly, but we were not advised that we could only choose from the lunch menu when we sat down with our menus opened at the full al a carte which wasn't an option for our late lunch, this should have been explained to us as we sat down - not when we were ordering. A glass of wine was spilt by the server mainly all over my husband (literally all over his head!) but also hit one of the kids and me - Can't believe we charged for this! And they didn't seem to care when questioned about it. The food was lovely but only 2 prawns in the prawn linguine was a bit miserable. When we wanted to order another glass of wine to go with our food, i was going to the bar to order before anyone noticed us looking for more drinks. We'll probably try somewhere else on our regular visits to St Andrews before we go back to the Adamson, very disappointed with our most recent experience given our many previous visits.

I’ve never seen it so rainy in St Andrews but inside The Adamson it was a top notch eating experience! The service was very slick and co-ordinated seamlessly by the head of front of house! I had the ham hock starter which was very tasty-it did threaten to be overwhelmed by the dark sauce but I just left this-the dish didn’t need them. My lemon sole main was so delicate and thanks to the server, I teamed it with some truffle and Parmesan fries ! Outstanding! I had room for the chocolate dessert-loved the cherries-the chocolate mousse was very light. I had a lovely light Mirabeau rosé to compliment my meal and rounded the whole meal off with a Paloma cocktail. Quite an expensive meal but absolutely worth every penny and pound! I’ll definitely be back!

As ever, despite being a busy day, the service was prompt, warm and friendly. The menu has something for everyone but we stuck with our favourite fish and chips - it's a simple meal but easy to get wrong. The fish was fresh, the batter, light and crispy and I love their mushy peas. The portion sizes are good, so much so that by the time we had a drink and ate lunch, we had no room for a dessert! Great place to take family, friends or to go as a couple. Very chilled, we will be back.

The food was excellent but what really made our visit to the Adamson special was the service from the attentive and friendly staff. They really made you feel like you were there for an occasion rather than 'just' a meal. Was a busy weekend with the golf tournament just around the corner and students arriving. We've decided to sit outside as the weather was beautiful. Service was terribly slow and seemed to huddle around the welcoming stand most of the time. We sat next to the elvis dog, so we seemed to be forgotten about as they had a good sized terrace, which was packed, just a few feet away. 20 mins until we got our drinks - Guiness was drinkable but a bit sour in taste, so presumably the keg was about to run out or it was just a bad keg. It took a little while to get their attention to ask for the bill, and even longer to actually pay. Based on this experience, we won't be returning.

Pre-booked table not ready, kept us standing with disabled relative . Waited 1 hr for olives and couple of starters, the rest of us waited 1.5 hrs for any food. There was no apology for the length of time after we enquired . Hake portion was about 4 inches sq, tiny for the price. Maitre d argued about it. The requested medium steaks were blue and had to be sent back . The broccoli was hard and served with whole almonds you couldn't eat with cutlery. The risotto was not enjoyed by 3 different guests and small portions. The chips were cold and more brought out. The non alcoholic cocktail was an inch of liquid at the bottom of a tall glass of ice. The maitre d and then the manager were poor at making amends when challenged. No apologies until the end of discussion, no reassurances while we waited, no complimentary drinks for example which would have appeased us not even any offers if further drinks while we waited so they missed a trick. I had to catch someone an hour into waiting to ask for a drink. In fact we were left hanging with poor customer service and poor to mediocre food. Very disappointed as we had a table of 8 for an 80th birthday and family had come in from Canada. Won't be back. They made amends too late but did scrap the entire bill. No need for the to have lost several hundred £s if only the customer service had been better. No one minds waiting as long as you are kept informed and comfortable.

The service was awful. We didn't get an appetizer we ordered, but did not bother to bug anyone about it because a server only stopped by our table about every 25 minutes, so we were all just relieved when we finally got any food at all. I normally never even notice the music in a restaurant, but the music here was simply dreadful. It sounded like two songs from different genres were playing at the same time. Everyone else at the table agreed the music was terrible. The food was ridiculously expensive and the portion sizes were tiny. I had to stop at the store afterwards to buy snacks because I was so hungry after our "meal". They didn't give us an itemized bill so we couldn't tell if they charged us for the appetizer or not, but by that point we had been trying to pay the bill and leave for thirty minutes so we just went with it. To summarize, my mother described it as "the worst restaurant experience I can remember."

A real mixed bag experience at the Adamson today. The food is genuinely brilliant but our service was really underwhelming. My father had two glasses of prosecco spilled over him accidentally by a member of staff, and whilst the staff were apologetic, we were still...

Loved the menu, wine choices and ambience. Food was less heavy than much of what we'd been eating in Scotland, which was a really welcome change! When I asked about different wines, they brought over the bartender who was very knowledgeable and let me take...

We invited our friends to dinner at the Adamson and we were very disappointed with the service and the food. My Friend ordered medium/rare steak which had to be sent back as it was served very rare and my husband ordered ox cheek however when we were served our main dishes my husband never got his with ours then the waitress came and asked him what he ordered and he was served his main dish 10mins after everyone else. Not sure we will return here or recommend it

Burger was good but the Sunday Roast meat on some of our table’s plates was chewy and cold. They let dogs in, off their leash, which bothered some of our party. A complete disregard for those who are not comfortable around dogs.

Lovely place, so welcoming to our dogs. First time they've been allowed in a cocktail bar with us!! Enjoyed the cocktails and the ambience. Will be back to try a few more concoctions the next time we visit St Andrews.

Came for a drinks with a client, and we were looked after from start to finish. The open kitchen is a lovely touch, and our hostess was great- I believe her name was Eleanor? Lady with dark hair and an accent I couldn’t place.
