The Abbotsford, Callander in Stirling

We arrived in Callander and needed somewhere to eat that evening. The b&b we were staying suggested here, so we booked a table. It was like private dining, we were the only one's in there all night! It was midweek and I suppose end of season but the food was absolutely fantastic, the wine was nice and the lad who served us was brilliant. We would definitely return for a meal if we are back in the area.

What an amazing afternoon tea served by extremely friendly and helpful staff. From my original email to confirm our booking to a follow up dietary requirement email, the service was fabulous. The food was delicious, from the little cup of soup to the savouries/sandwiches and the sweet treats! I have had several afternoon teas, one in particular in a luxury hotel and The Abbotsford beats them all hands down! We will most definitely return - thank you all!

My husband and I were here today for afternoon tea. We started with a cup of soup, literally, which was delicious. The sandwiches and savouries were next, great choices, the sausage roll was amazing. Last, but not least, were the sweet things, which were also very tasty. We couldn't manage our lovely warm scones, which were packed up for us to take home. Couldn't fault it and the service was second to none. Well worth a visit.

We visited for an evening meal, we wanted something a bit special as it was for an anniversary and wow did we get it. The food here is absolutely top class. We have dined in some very high end establishments including ones with Michelin stars and I have still never eaten better venison than we were served tonight. The autumn menu is a delight. My starter of wild mushrooms and chestnut salad, followed by the incredible venison haunch and then a pumpkin spice pannacotta was autumn done beautifully on a plate. Each course was delicious and well balanced and very reasonably priced too. Bonus being it was served by the completely lovely server whose name I didn't catch but who gave us first rate, attentive service all evening. We will most definitely be back and we highly highly recommend popping in if you're in the area.

Fabulous meal in an elegant dining room! Food was amazing and the staff were great. We will be back before too long. A little cool sat in the window but overall a great evening!

The bathroom was nicely renovated, and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast took a very long time and wasn't that much choice for the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Trying to get suitcases up and down with my elevator was a challenge.

We visited on sunday evening for dinner after a recommendation from a local person (we were just passing through the town and were looking for a nice place for dinner) and I just wanted to say how lovely the meal was. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and I had our young baby with us and he needed breastfed just as our food was served and you were kind enough to heat this up for me once he was finished feeding and also gave me an extra jug of gravy on the side. The food was outstanding and the restaurant was lovely. We will definitely be visiting again and will be telling family members also to give you a try if they are ever popping by.

Enjoyed a fabulous afternoon tea, which was served by a delightful young waitress. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name, but she was a credit to the hotel. All food is homemade and absolutely delicious and plentiful. We started with a lively thick lentil and vegetable soup, followed by a savoury platter consisting of sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini savoury tarts, oatcakes with smoked salmon and beetroot tzakiki, and oatcakes with ham hough and piccalilli. Wasn't keen in sandwiches as fillings made them soggy but will still give 5 stars. Would next time prefer an extra sausage rool and tart in place of sandwiches. Sweet platter consisted of fresh warm scones with cream and jam, millionaire tartlet, tablet, cranachan, meringue on top of coffee creme, and another cake which I can't remember. We all enjoyed our day trip to Callander, which was completed by a fabulous afternoon tea. Would 100% return.

Vraiment très bon et raisonnable côté prix. Service parfait et attentionné. Pour une fois chacun un plat différent : Agneau, Bar grillé, Risotto de haddock et hamburger. Un sans faute, cuisson parfaite et accompagnement raffinés !!! Dessert délicieux : crumble et fondant au chocolat. Ravis de notre soirée !!!

We were celebrating my friends 40th and the afternoon tea did not disappoint! Grazing platter to start, full afternoon tea which came with soup to start, homemade pastries and lovely selection of sandwiches and then scones cakes and even homemade tablet. The waitress Debbie was absolutely exceptional talking us through every course and Euan on the bar was fantastic too. Lovely seasonal food, lovely setting and made to feel very welcome and special. Thankyou!

Stunning dinner and brilliant service. The dinner was so nice I never really remember to take proper pictures a part from our starters. I had the lamb machine and that's was perfect. Highly recommended

Lovely room and a very nice evening meal, my wife is vegetarian and the options for her were great. A couple of ice cold beers and a cracking bottle of red wine finished the night off perfectly. Will visit again 👍

The hotel is spotless room very clean and comfy .dinner and breakfast was very good not very busy but if you need anything you just have to ask .would definitely stay here again one off the best hotels I have stayed in .

What can we say...this hotel has everything you could wish for. Debbie, you are one in a million. This young woman could not have been more helpful, cheerful and best of all, a great sense of humour. Nothing was a problem for her. Our room was spotlessly clean, with our favourite biccies, caramel wavers! If you want a break in callander, please book the Abbotsford. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of February and had a fabulous time. The food is excellent and the breakfast is cooked to order for hot food which is great for us as we hate buffets ! Dinner was included on the first night and was excellent. So good we booked again for the second night and again it was good quality and beautifully cooked. The room was small but clean and a great shower. The staff are all great, all friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served til 11.30 which is great for us as we don't do mornings. ! I would reccomend this hotel.

Fabulous afternoon tea experience from start to finish. Beautiful setting - lovely restaurant, tastefully decorated with relaxed atmosphere looking out onto wonderful monkey puzzle tree! The afternoon tea itself is fantastic. Love the little soup starter which few afternoon teas include. Great variety of hot, cold, sweet and savoury - all beautifully presented. Unlimited tea and coffee which is not often the case in many afternoon Tea deals now. We were very impressed by the young staff team who were polite, friendly but never intrusive. Toilets were spotlessly clean! There is lots of free parking and it is a short walk from the Abbotsford to Callander Main Street for visitors who have traveled from further afield. Fantastic value and a must for afternoon tea lovers! You will not be disappointed!

Went for afternoon tea and will be back. Generous amount of food with a real variety - not just 'standard fare'. Unlimited tea & coffee. Great service and good value for money.

Had a fantastic afternoon tea here with my mum. I had phoned in advance requesting vegetarian options and everything we were served was delicious. I've never had soup as part of afternoon tea but it was so tasty! The staff were also so friendly and it was genuinely the nicest afternoon tea we've had. We left as very happy customers, thanks so much! :-)

Stayed for 1 night and the room and the vegetarian breakfast were both great. Didn't have an evening meal as I noticed they didn't have any beer on draught (hence the 4 stars), so we ate at the sister hotel (crown) down the road, which was also very nice. Good Value for money and no complaints...

What a lovely experience we had on our first visit to the Abbotsford which is currently undergoing some refurb by new owners . Our afternoon tea was a delight and compared more than favourably with 5 star hotels i've visited in the past . Sean the Chef certainly spared no effort to produce a creative and tasty assortment . Service too was first class . Jake who looked after us from arrival was so helpful and friendly ensuring we wanted for nothing at all . It may have been our first visit but certainly won't be our last . Thanks Abbotsford!

This was a gift for Christmas, was easily booked and arranged . Hotel was lovely very cosy - staff were so nice and welcoming especially Debbie who checked us in and chatted in the bar area . Room was fine however I would defo upgrade to the bigger rooms as they look spectacular! 5 mins walk to Main Street . The breakfast was really nice and continental set up fab also ! I visit Callander a lot however didn’t know this gem existed ! Will be back …..

Absolutely delicious dinner. Tasty starters, amazing main courses- did not have any pudding. Beautiful relaxing dining area. Top service from our waitress Rebecca. Highly recommend. Will be back soon.

Whilst my stay was ok, standard room, very like. Premier inn, I ordered dinner to my room and it was fine. I was very disappointed as I left an expensive orthopaedic pillow in the room which I need for a neck injury. I know this was my mistake but I phoned the next day was happy to pay postage and extra for their bother. The phone all’s I made were many. I then tried by email and was promised it was be posted to me.i have now given up 2 months later. Customer service doesn’t stop when you leave the hotel, it is common curtesy to return items left in rooms. I won’t be staying here again

We had booked for Christmas, so arrived on Christmas Eve and left in Boxing Day. We were greeted at check in by Kyron. He showed us to our room right away. We stayed in room 1, which was gorgeous. Very roomy with a very comfy green chesterfield couch! I wish I had taken bubble bath with me as amazing bath! We had an afternoon tea booked, which was sooo good and different to others. (Pics provided). We had a gorgeous bottle of Bottega Gold Prosecco. We sat in the bar and had a few drinks before bed. Bar prices very reasonable and lovely to see Dark Matter Spiced Rum (nice Scottish Rum). Kyron, you need to get Isle of Barra Rum it is lovely with Ginger ale or beer. Christmas morning. Breakfast was so good, tons of choice and food very tasty, we both had full cooked breakfast. We had Christmas lunch booked for 3.30 so had a nice chilled day. Greeted with a glass of fizz. I had duo of duck for starter which was out of this world. Main course I went for something different. Venison haunch and it was soooo tasty and good. Dessert was millionaire Profiteroles which were lovely. (Have put up pics of hubby's too) The staff Kyron, Emma, Sophie and Heather were soooo lovely and very attentive! We cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much for making our Christmas special! Had to put up pictures to show amazing food and gorgeous room.

When we arrived we were greeted at the reception/bar by a lovely young woman, Rebecca. Throughout our stay she was so lovely and attentive, telling us some lovely local walks to enjoy and local history. Our dinner was wonderful, so flavourful and tasty, as was breakfast! For only £5 extra… highly recommend! We will definitely be back in the future!

Had a lovely meal last night. The food was amazing beautifully presented. Service was fantastic Sophie was looking after us, lovely well mannered and very pleasant couldn’t do enough for us. We will be back very soon

Amazing visit from start to finish. I found this gem on trip advisor and OMG it did not disappoint. The food and service was outstanding. Such a talented chef whose passion for food and first class ingredients is apparent in every mouthful. Don't hesitate just visit.

We spent one night at the Abbotsford very recently and Kieran looked after us very well.We had a lovely room at the front of the hotel with a high end bathroom and quality finishing. We had a great supper at their sister establishment The Crown on Main Street. Quality pub food in a nice setting, a perfect 15 mins walk with very nice staff. Guests staying in hotel receive an outstanding cooked and continental breakfast in a lovely dining area. All in all 10/10 for a superb stay. Recommend highly.

Absolutely fantastic! Will definitely be back. What a great place to stay. The food and service were top-notch. If you chose to eat here I recommend you try there Sunday roast 100% the best iv ever had.

Had heard all about the fabulous Sunday Roast at the newly reopened Abbotsford but tasting truly is believing ! Excellent choice of courses from menu. Tomato Soup and haggis starters were great but the actual Roast dinner - we all chose hangar steak - was literally to die for! Presented in a giant Yorkshire Pudding with a variety of vegetables and delicious gravy. Have tasted many restaurant and pub Sunday Roasts but this is by far the BEST! Excellent value too. £105 for dinner for 4 including 2 beers and 4 soft drinks. Courteous and polite staff team, lovely dining room with view onto stunning Monkey Puzzle tree and gardens. Plenty of free parking in hotel"s own car park which is an added bonus in Callander. Spotlessly clean toilets. Open to non residents but would advise booking as I think this going to be very popular and rightly so!

Stayed 2 nights in this lovely family run hotel. Recently taken over by young couple I believe part of Sirple Ltd. From start to finish my partner and I were made to feel so welcome and well looked after. Staff were friendly and professional, young waitress Sophie was a star, knowledgable efficient cheerful and professional. Food was second to none we ate in one night my partner had pork belly strips which he said were amazing and we both had ox cheek for main which was melt in the mouth really absolutely delish and plentiful, pannacotta for dessert was a first for my partner which he definitely will try again and me not liking sweet puddings had cheese board 3 cheeses explained what they were by our waitress Sophie. Very good choice of hot and cold breakfast poached eggs smoked salmon with avocado a winner for me. Hotel and bedrooms are immaculate and comfortable with complementary caramel wafer a bonus. We enjoyed sitting in lounge on both nights with a wee vino playing cards and I even manage an hour to myself reading my kindle there with a nice scone and cuppa tea. Back home now and already planning when we can go back to Callander but only if we can stay at the Abbotsford!
