Thailand No. 1 in Derbyshire Dales

One of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten, 3 of the 4 dishes we ordered were inedible. The aromatic veg skewers were literally dry stale carrot, cauliflower, mushroom and abit of tofu - they weren’t even cooked and completely tasteless. The staff never asked how the the food was even when they took the plates away- likely because they knew themselves that the standard of food was embarrassing. To make matters worse there was an ‘optional’ 10% gratuity added to the bill - never ever again Avoid!

Three of us ordered padthai and all three left it as it was far too sweet. I had the hot and sour soup for a starter and it wasn't great. Overall all six of us weren't impressed and certainly won't be returning. Such a shame as we chose this restaurant because of its reviews.

We walked in without a booking at about 7:30pm on a Saturday, and they sat us no problem - the food (we had set menu A) was absolutely lovely. Staff were friendly and efficient - we’d definitely recommend this restaurant.

What an amazing place this restaurant is, went as walk ins, which wasn't a problem as we like to eat quite early (6pm) , were shown to a lovely booth ,tables were available,staff were wonderful ,very attentive and smiley, the food was out of this world to say the least plus the decor was eye catching. This evening we had a birthday celebration at Thai No 1. The food was excellent and the staff friend,y and efficient and even though they were very busy they still gave us their full attention. A happy evening, we shall return.

We booked to go here specifically as the menu has lots of Gluten Free options as I am a Coeliac. We went in the night before to book and check that they could cater for my needs and was assured they could. However when we turned up the following night, ordered drinks and asked what they reccomended for starters for GF they said that it wont be 'completely' GF cos its cooked with other items that arent ! Very misleading and worrying for Coeliacs. Very disappointed, they need to take GF off their menu.

Fantastic food and first class service from staff. We didn’t book but just turned up on a busy Saturday night and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Really tasty food. My only criticism would be there was too much food per person when ordering the banquets. But if you’ve got a large appetite and want value for money, this is your place!

Stopped in for an evening meal and enjoyed a lovely time. Nice clean restaurant, serving some excellent food at a really good price. A great place, well worth a visit.

We ordered a takeaway banquet for 2 people on Wednesday evening priced at £52. The gentleman who took our order was rude, unhelpful and very impatient for us just to quickly order. He asked us to move away from the counter even though it was not busy and no one else was waiting. When asked about items on the menu he offered no assistance or description at all. The restaurant was recommended to us and we were only In Matlock for one evening so we bit our tongue in order to try the food. We wish we hadn’t bothered. There is nothing special about the food here. The only thing that stood out was the rudeness of the staff.

We popped in early evening to order a takeaway which was ready in just a short wait, the restaurant was already starting to fill up and it looks very nice.. Stand out was how they helped a customer who was in a wheelchair and his wife, finding an accessible table and letting him wash hands in the Ladies.. I was impressed as I waited for the food.. The Laarb salad was nice (although could have had a bit more chilli) you taste the flavour layers and the Tom Kha Gai Cooked in a spiced, fragrant coconut milk with lemongrass, lime leaves, galangal & fresh coriander was delicious as was the Green Curry. I really wanted to try the Gai Ho Bai Taei but it was not available that night.. a reason to return :)

Four of us had a lovely meal here yesterday evening. The food from the extensive menu was excellent - piping hot, very tasty, well-presented. The staff were very courteous and attentive, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere and ambiance were very pleasant. All COVID safety measures were in place - temperatures taken on entry, track and trace details taken, staff wearing masks, Perspex screens between tables, menus and tables sprayed before and after use. Definitely a restaurant to visit and support.

This place should truly receive an award for being COVID safe. All customers temperature is checked on arrival. Tables are allocated with social distancing. They actually have clear screens in between table. Waiting staff wearing face shields!!! But you could see the friendly smiling staff faces behind the shields, nothing was too much of an inconvenience here. Impressive!!! The food tasted delicious and was arrived without too much waiting. The ambience and décor was superb. Loved this place will definitely visit again.

Greeted by very friendly staff, shared chicken satay and prawn skewers for starters - wonderful, one of the best satay sauces and chicken was succulent and cooked well. Mains we shared pad thai and chicken massaman curry both presented beautifully, clean plates afterwards. Shared a bottle of wine all reasonably priced and service was excellent cannot fault it, lovely meal whilst passing through Matlock we wouldn’t hesitate to go again. Restaurant and bathrooms very clean and tidy, all necessary safety measures in place.

Excellent service but disappointed in the food. Sadly had to send back my beef masaman curry as the meat was chewy, gristly and poor quality. I had a pad thai as a replacement which was tasty but unfortunately too sweet. My husband enjoyed his pad kra pow gai but asked for it to be very, very spicy but it came mild (not at all spicy).
