Beautiful relaxing interior. Best Thai food we have ever had. Service friendly and genuine. Cannot recommend enough. Sad we live 5 hours away. Eat in, take away or Deliveroo

This was my first time visiting this gem of a restaurant. The food was fabulous and had amazing flavours throughout the dishes, and coupled with fair prices throughout their menu, it was a real treat to dine here. The restaurant itself was beautifully presented with great ambience- and the servers were very friendly providing great service, for example the man who served us, (Yard) recommended items on the menu and politely helped us. Being our first time trying Thai food and cuisine, I am sure in saying that it won’t be the last time.

Amazing. The best Thai food we have ever eaten in ths country. We were staying nearby in the Rose and Crown hotel which does not offer dinner so we tried this restaurant as it is fairly nearby. So glad we did. The staff - especially Martin - were wonderful. Very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere too. The food was excellent. Husband had the Weeping Tiger, which was perfectly cooked, plus sticky rice. I had a chicken penang curry - thick and creamy sauce, delicate flavours and just the right amount of kick - and coconut rice. Desserts were great too; I can't remember the name of mine but it was one I had not tried before and I loved it. The wine list included a Thai white which we tried because we have never seen it on a Thai menu before. It was fine. Prices were reasonable too We wish we lived nearer; we'd be in here all the time!

I stumbled upon this place whilst staying at Best Western Rose & Crown down the road as they have no restaurant, so just went out for a walk in search of dinner. My staple food is usually Indian or Chinese so at 58 years old I can honestly say that I had never been in a Thai restaurant before. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu and didn’t have a clue what to order, what came with each dish or what to have as a side order. So just took pot luck. Can’t remember the restaurant names for the stuff I ordered but it was spare ribs for starters, chicken with ginger and spring onions (deffo number 18 on the menu) and a side order of sticky rice (S10)! Wow…… just WOW!!!! This just has to go down as some of the tastiest food I’ve ever eaten!! Very chilled out atmos in the place with nice decor, proper cloth napkins, cozy but spacious. The staff were awesome too. Definitely a place that will be on my “must visit again” list if I ever get back to Colchester 👍🏼

We were out for a family meal, the waitresses were very welcoming, informative, polite and attentive. The food was very fresh and amazing, it could not have been any better. It was a very relaxed restaurant to eat in and nothing was too much trouble. If you like Thai food and have not yet tried this restaurant you will not be disappointed. We will most definitely go there again.

Why do people accept bookings when they know they are going to be extremely busy. Greed! Been here many times and it’s always been exceptional. I have given great reviews. This time the place was full and the consequence was we had to wait 30 mins for our order to be taken and another 30 mins for food. The food was awful and done in a rush. Fish cakes dripping in oil, duck covered in greasy batter and overcooked rice. Sadly that’s £80.00 wasted and we won’t be back.

Martin was our waiter, super friendly and attentive. Food is 10/10 Highly recommend.

It had been many years since we last ate here and although not terrible there were a few things that fell below what I had expected. Firstly my beer had a strong taste of chemicals and had to take it back and get it replaced. The portion sizes were small and a number of the battered deep fried starters tasted mushy inside like they were frozen previously. The staff were attentive and friendly but for me the food fell below my expectations this particular time.

Had dinner here while in Colchester for work and the food was amazing. Even though I don't normally eat Thai food, I was very impressed. Had a mixed started of spring rolls, duck rolls and chicken followed by a very delicious portion of Tiger prawns. Everything was well presented and the service was excellent.

Wow. what a wonderful restaurant, easy parking just over the road, we had a really nice welcome on our first visit here last night, the restaurant is spotlessly clean with a good atmosphere. They have proper cotton napkins which just adds a little touch to the top quality of the experience. The food was excellent and portion size is good. Certainly a place we will want to go back to, thank you for a lovely evening.

For a Friday this restaurant was surprisingly quiet and upon further into the meal I can understand why. The prawn tempura was very greasy and needed a lighter batter and maybe a different type of prawn. The beef dish (no 27) was ok but needed fresher ingredients and the fried rice with chicken (no 56) lacked any real flavour. Service was slow and confusing as they had 2 servers at our table, I'd recommend keep a server to a section and overlap on busy days. The floral touch to the decor was nice but it needs a fresh coat and maybe have a smell of ginger and lemongrass wafting in the air and it might help give some ambience. Some light music is needed and maybe a rehaul of the menu, as didn't see anything past 2 chillies but I could be wrong. Spice is life, please don't steer away from it.

Thai One is by far one of the best restaurants we have visited in Colchester. Their food tastes amazing, the service is is top notch, and you are greeted by warm friendly people who do anything to make your dining experience one you will never forget. Highly Recommended

I popped in here by chance after checking in at the Greyfriars hotel on a Thursday night at 2030hrs in October. The restaurant was closed! Thankfully, this lovely little place was open and more than happy to serve me. I ordered Pak, Choi, sticky rice, red jungle curry and laab (duck), plus 2 beers for £50. The food was delicious. The music could’ve been a little bit louder to help break quite a quiet atmosphere, but the waitress was super friendly and polite and the food was incredible. I would definitely go again.

This is a superb restaurant, and perfect location as we were staying at the wonderful Greyfriars Hotel, 5 minute walk. 17 of us visited this lovely restaurant and were not disappointed. We had an amazing set menu arranged for £30 per head and the dishes just kept coming out, They were all piping hot and full of flavour. The food is very yummy and i am not gonna lie, whenever I go and eat at this restaurant, the taste still remains the same….I felt like I was in Thailand because of the decoration and of course, the customer service is absolutely wonderful….You should try their Pad Thai and I assure you wanna eat again and again.

We spent two nights on a mini break in Colchester. We came across Thai 1 on the first night and were so impressed. From the young man who greeted us on arrival, the waitress who served us, to the absolutely amazing food, we were so impressed. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. It was so good, it was such an obvious choice to go back on our second evening. We chose different meals and once again were not disappointed. The staff were so friendly and remembered us from the previous evening. It is obviously a family run business who really care about their business and making sure they look after their customers. We are now thinking about coming back to Colchester in the future and we will definitely come back to Thai 1.

Rather disappointed..first visit back here in years..whilst the service was ok the food not so...Duck pancakes were pre formed..mushy and did not taste fresh. Massamum curry very hot and dark colour. We weren't asked about heat/spiciness of food. Overall very mediocre experience....we won't be back

We found this restaurant by searching Tripadvisor, having never been to Colchester before. We were not disappointed. It was quiet when we arrived (6.30pm) but soon filled with a majority of regulars but some other tourists too. We knew it must be good as it was only a Monday night. The welcome from the waiter and also the female owner were second to none. The atmosphere was great, and I do like a restaurant that still has good quality linen tablecloths and napkins. The food was excellent; the presentation of the food was excellent. Absolutely nothing to fault!

As an Asian who has been to Thailand many times, I have to say that the food is rather disappointing. You are paying the price of a 3 star hotel but the food potion is tiny. Even my 8 year old kid was not full spending £15 for their dish. They staff is polite but we need to repeat ourselves a few times to get the communication across. It may be suitable for locals who have no real Thai food experience but it will definitely be a no-no to me.

Brilliant service. Brilliant food. Vegan menu is the best I've seen in the region bar going into Central or Greater London. Other Thai restaurants nearby like Naka Thai and Na Ree Thai are good too but Thai One takes it up a notch, at least when it comes to offering an innovative vegan-targeted menu. I'm in the top 10% of restaurant reviewers on Google, and all I can say is much respect to the owner and her family; they've made me a very happy vegan reviewer this evening.

Shame we can only give a five star rating! Attentive service, food was exceptional. We did not book, but would recommend. We were made so welcome and highly recommended. The banana fritters are so beautifully delicate. Thanks to Susie, her Mum and the team!!

Regular on my own choice of takeout, can't comment on the restaurant as never been in but the takeaway is usually quick to arrive and hot.

Worst takeaway ever. Avoid. Tiny portions. Appalling food. Laughable prices. Crispy spring rolls were 4 small flaccid attempts with bad tasting filling - £6.95. Photos reflect rest of terrible takeaway- and at over £42 it was theft. Buyer beware! These guys used to be good...

Has a vegetarian menu section but then the dishes say contain crustaceans. so this restaurant can not be trusted. crustaceans are not and never have been, its quite simple if it had a face before it was killed its not vegetarian. People who are not vegetarian but have fish allergies could die here

I’ve been coming here for years but I don’t think I will anymore… they have raised prices, lessened the amount of food you get and the general quality of the food is really in decline. Very disappointed

Got sent a pork dish instead of my vegan curry. The spring rolls and my now plain, curryless rice were nice but getting the wrong dish doesn’t fill me with confidence.

On arrival martin greeted us with open arms we we sat to our seats and what more can I say other then the food was superb to every request we required 5 star all day long will definitely be returning!!!

Pleasant restaurant with good food

Shocking service. Placed an order at 7:50 pm and after 1.5 hrs I chased it to be told that it was just leaving the restaurant and the driver is coming straight to me so about 15 minutes. A further hour goes by and the food turns up at 10:20 pm to which it was sent away. Who going to want to eat at that time of night? Definitely wouldn’t recommend them, staff lie and expect to wait for you food! No phone calls to say that it’s going to be later than expected.
