Thai Rack in St Albans

Thai Rack is a great Thai restaurant. Every menu is delicious. Good service staff and ready to give advice. I love SEAU RONG HAI (WEEPING TIGER), Grilled sirloin steak and the aromatic duck here. It's open to sit and eat in the garden during the summer. With a view overlooking the cathedral, the beautiful flowers make it superb.

Given table in dark corner at empty restaurant. Felt rushed. Chicken was dry and tough.

Excellent place for a dinner with family, delicious food making us feel like back in thailand. Great staff!

Excellent meal for the 4 of us. Have starters and mains, maybe extra main course as desserts are not fantastic. Really good service not intrusive. Nice buzzy atmosphere. Food is reasonably priced, and wine list also includes some reasonably priced options. I hope to visit again.

Best Thai in St Albans, fantastic delivery service and amazing food

Visited for the first time Sunday lunchtime, very busy, booked table in advance. Staff rushed and not particularly welcoming. Food was fine, well cooked and tasty. Not sure I would rush back.

Awful service. Fake humility. The staff tried to be polite but we felt this was only because there was a HUGE delay in bringing our food after the order was taken. Starters took more than 1/2 an hour and then main courses arrived 3/4 hours later; no appetite left. They say there were too many take-away orders plus too many dine-in customers. For me this is a bad excuse; if you can't cope cut down on customers / orders. Food seemed ok / tasty but I got sick when I got home; so don't know what happened there. On their web site they DO NOT say they add 10% service charge, which is a CHEAT / awful business practice. Finally, the bill was wrong (which had to be corrected) and despite "bad" service they had no shame in adding 10% service charge.

Great lunch deal. 2 courses for just over £10. They were busy but service was still great.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Went for dinner yesterday evening and was told there was a table available for us. Within 5 minutes of sitting down at least 4 waitresses had been over to ask us to order drinks and our food. We felt pressured to quickly order something so said we would order or starter whilst still looking at the menu for what we wanted for our mains. Someone then came over and said if you’re not ordering mains now give us back the menus. Our starters arrived within minutes and then a very rude lady came out (much older than the other waitresses who were at least polite) and told us off for not ordering starters and mains at the same time- we felt like school children being scolded. We explained that the waitress didn’t say it was a problem to order starters first and then the main- she was very rude and miserable and ruined the evening for us- telling us off in-front of a full restaurant of people. We were then pressured to order mains ASAP- all the owners of this restaurant care about is getting as many people through the door as physically possible- people spend good money to go out for a nice, relaxing evening meal. They don’t want to feel on edge and rushed out. We quickly ordered mains- I was expecting my noodles to be savoury as the sauce was soy sauce but they just tasted very overly sweet which I am not a fan of. Pad Thai was ok. Will not be returning as I’ve never been spoken to so rudely by somebody in a restaurant! It’s a shame the older lady who had a go at us works there as the other waitresses were polite- she is single handedly ruining business for this restaurant. And then they have the utter cheek to charge 10% service!! What a joke that is after receiving awful service.

Nice starters Tried sea food was good

Food was very nice, prawn satay, massaman curry and a nutty chicken coconut special. All very tasty. Service wasn't great but pleasant, they actually reminded my girlfriends plate while she was still eating, but left mine, when I had finished, without asking. I think Rhett get a little flustered when busy. Nice place, albeit a little sterile.. didn't get to see the garden but probably will next year when the weather picks up

Consistently excellent Thai food.

Nice Thai food at reasonable price particularly at lunch at about £8 per dish. The curry, pad thai were nice. Egg noodle soup quite basic though, but ok. Would go again.

Amazing place, highly recommended! We had a superb experience - the food was delicious! We missed Thai omelette and although it’s not on the menu, the restaurant was very kind to accommodate. It’s hard to call out one thing on the menu because most if not all are outstanding. The staff are very friendly and warm too. We’d definitely be back again soon!

To be honest, it was the WORSE meal I had for a while in UK, please stay away. We ordered the two courses meal, the 2 mains came before our starters which defeats the course named starter. The speed of the foods from ordering to being on our table was worrying fast. Foods was terrible, bland and stale, nothing was remotely warm let alone hot. I had a bite of the Chicken satay, it was cold and dried, typical case of freezer burnt. Definitely frozen reheated foods. Soup was like a reheated cheap tin of mushroom soup. Service was none existent, no eye contact or interaction whilst order was taken, very rude. Place was clean with a beautiful garden but our server put us off eating out there. Overall, don’t WASTE your time and money on this place, it is Not a restaurant that represents the beautiful Thai Cuisine, which should be filled with fresh ingredients & fragrant, everything tastes like leftover foods. I didn’t eat the foods in the end, I was worried about getting sick after.

Authentic, delicious Thai food at a very reasonable price!! The staff were amazing, really lovely people. The garden at the back was gorgeous, adding to the lovely atmosphere! Will definitely return

Tasty good food especially for the price, excellent and quick service me and my girlfriend enjoyed our food that we shared, we had a massaman and weeping tiger steak with the shared hot starter all good choices and good portions lovely view from the garden will visit again.

A great little Thai restaurant just behind St Albans Abbey. It has a pretty garden out back where you can eat your meal if the sun is shining. Tasty food, reasonable portions and lovely staff. Their green curry is awesome!

Great food, 5/5 but the lady who served us had the face of a smacked bottom, so rude, and impolite. She even slammed the drinks and plates on the table. Not sure what was wrong with her. We just laughed about it! Besides that, other staff were great and the food was excellent. Would go again if that rude lady wasn't there.

Very nice, relatively small, family-run restaurant selling authentic Thai food. Prices are far more reasonable than its direct competitor in the same street, and I prefer to support an independent business. Service is very quick, to be honest too quick! I reckon that if you only had a main course you could be in-and-out in less than 40 minutes! Great if that’s what you like but not if you want to enjoy a more leisurely evening. Nevertheless, tasty, good quality food and friendly service.

The best Thai outside of Thailand

Very, very disappointing. We ordered a family takeaway on Friday evening. The website allowed me to select a delivery for 8:15pm, giving 20 minutes to make and deliver. The food arrived 1 hour late, it was cold and the portion sizes were very, very small. Given it's was over £80 for the food its not the best quality either and there are a number of other Thai restaurants to choose from in st Albans which I think are better. There was also a mistake on the order which saw us receive 2 incorrect items. I called to express our disappointment and asked for the order to be rectified. They agreed to replace the 2 items and deliver them free of charge. 15 minutes later they called back to say I had to pay for one of the dishes as the manager had told the lady on the phone she couldn't provide them as a gesture. I agreed to as we were hungry and waiting, I asked how much longer we had to wait and was told it was coming. We waited another 20 minutes even thought we are 5 minutes round the corner! Very poor service and no apology for such disappointing food and tiny portions. Go somewhere else if you want a decent THAI takeaway.

This was awful. Tom Yam soup had tinned mushrooms and there was this overpowering smell of old oil in the soup. Tofu was bearable. Veg spring rolls were horrible. Had a small hair attached to the spring roll. I never leave reviews but come on. Never going back

Ordered from here for delivery - expensive and all the food was received had been defrosted to send to us - all food was inedible and we’ve had to ask Deliveroo for a refund a order a pizza

Food has gone average. Tom yum soup is still good. Deep fried sea bass is good but the sauce has deteriorated. Overall it is alright but not excellent.

A very nice and authentic Thai restaurant. Really enjoyed everything we had. To remove choice, there are set menus to go for. We went for one that had crispy duck as an appetiser, a chicken yellow curry, two stir fry dishes and a fried sweet and sour prawn dish, and two sides (pad Thai and egg fried rice) plus a dessert. All for £27 each so well worth it I think. Most dishes were lovely. The prawn dish was a little tooo sweet for me, quite honey tasting which is not a personal preference of mine but everything else great. They also do an amazing chilli oil which I wish I could take home. Great place overall and would go again

Staff are a great as you'd expect with Thai culture unfortunately the food on this occasion wasn't up to the usual standard. My Pad see ew was very bland and really oily and my papaya salad also lacked flavor. The restaurant its self could do with a bit of a revamp. It's quite echoey and lacks atmosphere. Overall a pleasantly average experience.

Underwhelming, have had better Thai food at less cost. Chairs and tables could do with being updated along with rest of decor.

Thai Rack was wonderful. The food came out quickly and was very good. We sat on the patio, which was beautiful.

Tasty food but expensive in the prawn noodles there was like 2 prawns.

Helpful staff, nice food, nice backyard with a view to the church. The portions are proportional to the price. Tom kha gai soup was nice and some dish like a soup that had chestnut (or something like that) was superb.

Such a good food friendly stuff nice to my dog (just allowed in the garden) the garden is very nice and you have nice view with the church in the background. I ate pat Thai with veggies and tofu. Very good ❤️

Lovely little Thai restaurant on high street in St Albans close to the cathedral. Justifiably popular. Do book a table. Excellent food, great choice including vegetarian dishes, complementary crackers. Prawns were fresh and beautifully cooked. The sauce was delicately flavoured and noodles perfectly cooked. Portions were generous. Service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely visit again!

We are occasional visitors to St Albans but go out of our way to eat here on every occasion as the food is so good. We arrived early (6:00pm) on a Friday night without a booking and were lucky to get in as fully booked from 8:00pm so advance booking essential. Absolutely fabulous food, second time having Jungle Curry and Penang Curry for my wife, just great! Definitely recommend, but save us a table for our next visit! Lots of people collecting takeaways too so very popular.

Delicious authentic Thai food. From what I can tell I think it is a family owned restaurant. Whatever the case the ingredients are all very fresh, the staff are friendly and the dishes are delicious. You can either order multiple dishes to share amongst the table or you can each other a single portion of a dish and eat just what you like that way. Their star ingredient though is definitely prawn, they cook their prawns to perfection and full of flavour. Have been coming here for years and have yet to be disappointed. While often you can just come as a walk-in customer, I do recommend booking in advance to be sure you will have a table. Especially in weekend they can get busy and you won't always be able to get a table without reservation.

We chose Thai Rack’s top “Banquet of Thailand” set menu — crispy duck, two chicken dishes, a prawns dish, a beef dish, rice and noodles. I’ve never been presented with such a bland Thai dinner — it all distinctly lacked the lemongrass and fiery fresh chilli tastes that you seek in choosing Thai, and the portions parsimonious. The tamarind prawns dish was pleasant but everything else was just mean and unloved. Pudding was a choice between banana in coconut milk or banana fritter — the waitress was embarrassed to admit that they couldn’t offer pudding because they didn’t have any bananas! With a bottle of beer each, they presented a bill for £60 anyway. A really underwhelming, bland experience 😐
