Lovely place to have dinner! The staff is incredibly friendly and the food was amazing.

If you want to eat something close to Turkish food, you can go to this restaurant without hesitation. The taste is really similar to Turkish taste and foods are amazing. Atmosphere, music and hospitality are very nice. Moreover, prices are quite convenient. Thank you for Dimitri and his family. I definitely recommend. 👍

Great Greek food in Edinburgh! Family owned spot with authentic Greek food options and large portions. Everything we ordered was very flavorful and felt like being in Greece again. We chose the bread basket, tzatziki, pita pita (grilled chicken fillet with pita bread) and the yaourtlou. The bread was nicely grilled with a good covering of olive oil, salt and oregano. Addicting! The tzatziki was as they serve it in Greece and definitely a must order for the table. The chicken fillet was tender and very flavorful, served with thick cut fries. Finally the yaourtlou was delicious with a good serving of red tomato sauce, yogurt, herbs and spices with a large soutzoukaki portion. Happy to have come across this place while in Edinburgh!

What a joy of having such great Greek food.. We tried a few Greek spots and Taxidi was by far the best. Pitas where amazing and hand cut fries like the ones from Yaya. Will be back when we're in town again.

Great Greek food in the heart of Edinburgh. We came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday who is himself Greek. He was able to attest to the authenticity of the food. Staff very friendly and accommodating. They even took a picture of us in front of the restaurant. Thanks guys, and well done.

I came here for my 60th birthday. I brought friends and family for a casual shared meal. Dimitrios and his excellent staff looked after us all well. From the arrangements before, the lack of difficulty or complexity in the running of the event; the whole afternoon was just what I was looking for. The food was its usual high standard. Simple tasty excellent Greek cooking.

Went to a 60th birthday party here. It was great - really friendly service and the food was authentic and excellent with very generous portions. Really hospitable hosts. Have been for a meal here before which was also great. It is quite small so it made circulation a bit tricky with 26 guests - but we knew that when it was booked. Excellent afternoon - thanks to the staff who were then going on to do a busy evening service once we left!!

Rushed all the way through.- waitress brought the wrong dish to the table, didn’t apologise, and treated us as if we were responsible!!! Not a very friendly treatment at all. Food was monotonous and I am writing this with a bad taste in my mouth of a squid that was not fresh. Would not come back and definitely wouldn’t recommend. To top it off, they blatantly asked us to leave after 1 hour and 20 minutes because they had another booking at 9! Incredible

The owner and all the staff are very welcoming creating a lovely warming atmosphere from the moment you enter which continues into excellent table service with recommendations and great attention to detail on each plate. The quaint restaurant has a true local Greek charm about it and the food is outstanding alongside being very authentic. It ticks all of the boxes for what a top restaurant should have. Highly recommend trying this place and looking forward to my next visit soon.

Tried this place for the first time before leaving for uni in a different city and i deeply regret it as the food was the best ive tried in a while. The vegan options are amazing, for example the mpakses and fava (my personal favourites). Definitely a must try.

Taxidi is one of the best greek restaurants ive tried. The octopus dish is a must try, along with the special of the day, the lamb chops. The service was really great and the waiters helped make our night! If youre visiting edin you know where to go

A quaint little Greek restaurant tucked in a little side street along the top of Lothian Road. Service was friendly, and food delivered fast. Great authentic menu, the hand cut chips are to die for, and the use of high quality olive oil is apparent in the food. One of the better Greek spots in Edinburgh, and has outdoor dining for those days when Edinburgh is blissfully warm and sunny.

Absolutely amazing place. Wonderful food, tasty as you expect it to be. Really well served portions. Really friendly staff, cool atmosphere, nice cold beer to go along your meat. Definitely will be back to bulk up,lol. Ps* There's also a great espresso, not that dirty water that you find mostly everywhere from machines badly configured.

Spotted this Bistro on Google maps, basically around the corner from my Daughters. Have tried a couple of other Greek restaurants in the city and can honestly say this is by far the best. Good honest food, reasonably priced. Great service and friendly. Will definitely be back, my 1st choice for Greek in the Capital 5*.

WOW! Took me back to my grandmas cooking. Delicious, fresh and truly authentic Greek food. A must try in Edinburgh!

Great food and nice atmosphere. However! Service was terrible, waiter, short dark hair maybe late 40s... Refused to let me order the specific hot drink I wanted even though it was in the menu and he also rudely snapped 'well it's not on the menu so that is a stupid question' when my partner asked for an iced coffee... A simple 'no' would have been sufficient. This waiter has brought our opinion down as this used to be a regular for us during festival time. No lt anymore.

This was a first time visit to Taxidi for an early evening dinner, but we plan to return. Great greek food and really friendly, welcomingn staff!

Best Greek/Mediterranean cuisine in Edinburgh

Trying to find somewhere to eat during the Fringe can be challenging but these folks were so helpful in getting us a table, and we never felt hurried at all. The food was amazing and catered to veggie, teenagers, students and us oldies alike. The manager was polite, efficient and entertaining and I just hope hey can restock the wine. Lovely experience that I will hunt out on my next visit to Edinburgh.

OMG what a great experience. Party of ten with a set menu. The staff went above and beyond. The food was absolutely outstanding. Shout out for the chef. Shout out for the waiting staff. First meal in Edinburgh~ I was starving so I’m very happy to have this big dinner. It was great~ The two starters are delicious~and I like the fish dish a lot~ Only thing is the pita and two main dishes are a bit too salty. Except this I like them very much! And the manager is very kind and nice!

This is our favourite Greek restaurant on the planet. We love our Greek food and try find a restaurant when we travel, but nothing beats Taxidi. No place like home as they say. It is so authentic, the team that work there are lovely, the service is fantastic, the food is amazing and it is great value for money. It is one of our 3 go to restaurants in Edinburgh.

After being let down by our accommodation we went out to find something to eat. We found Taxidi by accident and it was already quite late but they were very welcoming. I had the yaourtlou and my wife had the moussaka (the best she's ever had - her words, not mine). We had a bottle of the house white wine, which was also very good and then we both finished with the baklava. It was a very special meal, found by accident but it won't be by accident when we return there.

Love the grilled mushroom and veggies starter. The pita chicken & hand cut chips were delicious, but it was a tad salty so would be great if they can be less generous with salting the food.

Oh wow! Loved our meal here on a recent visit to the city. What a little gem! Fabulous food and a really warm welcome. We would highly recommend this small unpretentious bistro to anyone who loves good authentic Greek food. The warm halva was to die for, and the pittas are like little herby pillows of heaven!

Stumbled upon this place yesterday, and what a surprise! Excellent food and service. Will definitely be returning!

The bistro is 20minutes walk from Princess Street, small and quiet. Booking would be advisable. Had ordered sharing foods and weren’t quite finished when our main dish was brought out so felt a bit rushed with that. Otherwise the food was lovely and all reasonably priced.

Great contemporary Greek food, absolutely worth the walk from Old Town. Very tasty! The area and street it's located on are not the best, I do hope that Taxidi will find a new slightly bigger location somewhere more fitting, because they deserve it!

Went there yesterday at around 5 pm with my husband and waited for the staff to show us our seats. We were greeted coldly by a male staff (short hair, probably in his 50s) who told us we couldn’t sit inside (although the place was practically empty) because we weren’t sure if we wanted to order food. He showed us to the only empty table outside which could fit 2 people. When my husband told him we had another 2 friends joining us, he rudely told us that there wasn’t any table left and quickly turned the other way as if he couldn’t bear talking to us for another second. Now my husband has been their loyal customer for years and he always brought his friends over for drinks and/or food. I only ate there twice myself and I’ve seen the owner during the two times I was there and he was without a doubt very friendly. But we didn’t see him yesterday. My advice to the owner would be to keep an eye on your staff because bad service would drive even your most loyal customers away.

Once in a while you are lucky enough to stumble across a very special place. Taxidi is this place. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. There were 6 of us dining tonight and we only had compliments to shower on this amazing team. Well done Taxidi. 👏

A must go when in Edinburgh! The food here is out of this world. We visited this evening for our wedding anniversary (we didn’t inform them before hand) and were treated like family as soon as we stepped through the door. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is warm and authentic. Its one of the best meal experiences we’ve had. The quality and quantity of the food it outstanding. We will be recommending Taxidi to anyone and everyone who will listen. Thank you for giving us such a memorable night

This was an amazing experience! They were so kind and gave us a comfortable feeling! The service was quick, asked about our choices and suggested some things based on how much you wanted to eat! The food was fresh, tender and beautiful presentated! I really loved it and would recommended to everyone who stays in Edinburgh!

We have been planning to come here for quite some time and boy, we are glad we did. We came on a rainy day so unfortunately could not make use of the outside beer garden. The inside is small and cosy but full of friendly atmosphere. There were families, friends and most importantly Greek customers(always a good sign). We went for the grilled octopus (of the main menu) as a shared starter with some some herby pita bread. Then the grilled lamb chops from the daily specials menu.all was absolutely delicious! Wine recommendation was also a great success. Thank you, we will be back. Would highly recommend.

The Greekest Greek food I've had outside of Greece. Delicious grilled lamb slathered in herbs. The only thing missing was a few feral cats winding round your ankles.

Quick service and delicious food; fresh and piping hot!

Never really had authentic Greek food before so I couldn't compare it to anything else but the food is lovely! We got a starter that came with some pita bread and we had to order an additional pita bread because it was amazing! I order the calamari tou psilou and it was really light and refreshing. I forgot the other name of the dish, but the other dish was very filling because of the pita and chips! The sauce that came with it was really tasty too. Must try👌

We have just returned to our accommodation after a beautiful meal at Taxidi. We didn’t book and very nearly missed out but they were very accommodating in squeezing us in and we are so pleased they did. The menu is not huge which means everything...

I chose this restaurant as it’s a short walk from Usher Hall. It’s a small bistro type restaurant with lovely cosy atmosphere. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. I had chicken pita and mum had moussaka. Both cooked to perfection and tasted...

Great ambience. Lovely 2 staff front of house. Water .chose meals off menu then we're told re lamb chops £19.50. Ordered them .arrived .2 overcooked small chops and chips. Very disappointed with this dish. Partners meal good and value for money.

I’m not that fond of Greek and Cypriot food, or so I thought until I had the pleasure of eating here. We were a very large group of ten but they very kindly allowed us to book ahead with a set menu of sharing platters and accommodated us fantastically despite being a very intimate space. There seemed to be no end to all the little dishes of treats to fight over, and such a great selection of vegetarian options. I’m a very meat person and I was not disappointed by the insanely good meat mountain grilled platter, but I thought the veggie dishes were the stars of the meal. I could have had just pita and the split pea dip all night and still felt like I got my money’s worth; even in the simplest dishes you could taste the quality ingredients and skilled preparation. Arrive hungry; you will not be able to control yourself around that pita bread. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly, the decor was cosy and even the flatware was just beautiful to look at. I look forward to dining there again, thank you for having us!

Authentic and flavourful greek food

Never in my life have I eaten at a Greek restaurant when travelling. That was the first time. And it was awesome. Great food, like home. Great service also. Great people. Tried the plate called Vouno. Which means mountain and it was indeed a mountain of food: fries, pita and meat. The grilled aubergine with feta was super, the fava from Santorini was like my mother's and bougiourdi was like we do it in Northern Greece. Overall a great experience. If in Edinburgh visit and you will have a proper Greek lunch or dinner.

Presently rated five star. I must ask when was it rated? Waiter was very helpful but my goodness the food was dreadful, seriously bad. Perhaps the chef was on holiday. Thing is, there are so many good restaurants nearby why would you go to Taxidi?...

Booked a table for 10 of us. They sorted us out a set menu for 25 pound per person. The food and service was excellent. I had a great experience and thought the value was excellent, so much food and it was all delicious.
