Having booked a table outside we arrived and was seated rather quickly with our order taken moments later. After our hastily arrival we started to notice how some members of staff were not wearing PPE and were quite happily socialising with passers by without sanitising when returning to their duties. There was one male member of staff with longish hair who was quite prevalent at this and it was an uneasy viewing experience as his long ocks came close with food&drink whilst he was serving. Luckily for us he hadn’t seen to our table . About 10-15 minutes on from ordering, our food and drink was served, 2 english breakfast, 1 x pancake stack and 2x pints of beer. It wasn’t great, the beer was as warm and flat as the pancakes and there was nothing fresh about the breakfasts which was evident by the freezer burn on the rashes of bacon, pieces of toast (bread held over a 40w lightbulb) and undercooked home fries. We both ate about half of the plate but couldn’t stomach the rest after a conversation provoked the thought of how long some of the food may have sat in a freezer since they last had physical diners at tables. It had been a few years since our last visit and we probably won’t return, I don’t understand why the Echo raves about this place and how they operate on a reputation about an award of best breakfast 5-6 years ago.

Before Covid me and my partner would go here all the time. There was always a queue for breakfast but well worth the wait. However we recently got a breakfast delivered from here and it was almost inedible. The pancake was raw (see photo) the toast was missing and the actual food was a mess. Looks like they can’t keep the standard up with take outs. If I was them i would cut the menu right down making it more able to cope because right now, they are destroying their reputation.

Arrived and was seated instantly, Daisy was our waitress and her service was spot on nothing was to much trouble for her. Food was amazing as always we had starter and main all food was hot. Atmosphere was lovely each table had a candle which I thought was a nice touch.Keep up the good work we will return after lock down

We are regulars for breakfast here but recently returned for an evening meal.Tables well spaced and all current restrictions appear to be adhered to.I had the belly pork which was very tender and tasty, it came with 'crackling' which was two small strips and tasted like they came from a packet ?Service as ever was excellent only down side for me is the lack of lighting.My eyes are not the best these days but the place is so dimly lit I really cannot read the menu.I looked on-line before our visit !If I could ask one thing please buy some bulbs and have lights on in the evening.The rating should be 'good' rather than very 'good'.

Been visiting The Tavern for several years but our last few visits have been disappointing. Really trying to give benefit of doubt but this morning went for breakfast and yet again cold food and incomplete order. Eggs Benny, slimy cold eggs and sauce. Ftench toast with no bacon as ordered. This has happened before with Full English having to be sent back and an evening meal arrived luke warm. Management very apologetic and no charge for the below standard meal but would rather pay for hot good food. I think the Tavern is living off previous reputation and the award they won 3 years ago.

Very disappointed. We had booked a table for breakfast on Boxing Day We were shown to a booth table designed for 4 people and there were 5 of us so 3 of us had to squeeze onto one side. My husband and I ordered a full English each. The meals came the plates were red hot but the food was cold and undercooked. The egg I had wasn’t cooked properly and the white of the egg was still slimy on top. The sausages were only cooked on the one side and the black pudding was raw in the middle. I won’t bother coming here again

First time I’ve visited, it did seem a tad crowded but it does look like they’ve tried their best distancing people. What however wasn’t covid friendly was 3 plates were put on the wrong table and 5 minutes later when another waiter realised he just picked the food up and put on the correct table. I’m sure you’re not allowed to do this at the minute. Me and my partner both ordered the full English breakfast and he ordered a latte. The breakfast comes with unlimited tea and coffee, we were given cups and when the lad finally came over with the tea and coffee he only gave me half a cup of tea in the tiniest cup and I then had to ask someone else for a spoon and milk. He didn’t come back until we had asked twice our waiter and then had to try and wave him down. Our full English breakfast arrived before the latte did even though we’d chased it. When it did come it tasted like burnt milk. The breakfast were fine, everything was hot and cooked. Our waiter was nice enough and polite.

Prices wrong on website , trued ordering on line, wellnow you can't do that before nine o clock .colleague waited and waited to order online so went inbandcsyill did it from phone sobto get half price deal, didn't allow her to order a takeaway so was fully charged and prices were wrong from what was said on the site. My daughter and I visited on Friday 29th October with the two children. We were quite shocked to see every table full, no social distancing whatsoever!! The manager would've been in a lot of trouble if any inspectors would have come in. No excuses at all for this except of course they didnt want to lose any money and move tables out. The food is quite acceptable but we waited ages for our desserts which were promptly prepared when I pointed this out. We cant complain about the staff they were all very nice. I eat out quite a lot and this is by far the worst restaurant I have been in for social distancing!! I will not be going back.

Went last week it was awful. Has really gone downhill over the past 6 months or more. Food cold and clearly been left under the heat for a long time as was sweaty and hard- when reviewing this with the manager she took it away to “make a fresh one” which clearly she just put it in the microwave, yuck! Won’t be going back. Sort it out Tavern! Staff are useless and recurved a cup of tea and waited for milk for around 20mins, by time this came the tea was cold. Worst breakfast of my life

Went here for a Halloween breakfast having prebooked. Having been to The Tavern many times over the years we expected the usual friendly attentive service which they usually provide even when full to the rafters. We sat down and after ordering we did not get offered coffee for 40 minutes and then that’s with us asking when the food arrived. 35 minutes into our wait the time warp came on and the staff stopped what they were doing and started dancing. Had we been given a coffee we would have thought great Halloween fun but this just made us feel even more forgotten as the mostly lethargic staff seemed to have energy to dance. When our food arrived it was up to the usual standard and the reason we gave 3 stars instead of 1. We decided to have a pancake each as well and when the new cutlery was laid out there was lipstick on my fork. I didn’t point this out as the 1 of the others on our table was already fuming and I did not want to be the cause of a scene. Apart from the guy dressed up as a jester at the door and a girl dressed as a Dalmatian dog serving near the toilets most of the other staff were real life mummified zombies ‍♂️ ‍♀️ who only came to life on listening to The Timewarp.

I think some of the reviews are a tad unfair. The food is nice and the portions are big I was absolutely stuffed from breakfast till about 6pm!!! The scrambled egg was a bit dry but given it was so busy (half-term) I could forgive this. Tea and coffee offered several times throughout by a polite young man. Menu a bit expensive for what it is but was pleasantly surprised by the 50% off since we booked online. It was nice to see a restaurant this busy again since COVID although social distancing could be improved slightly. All the staff were nice and friendly and overall I would come back again.

Really disappointed. Booked online to find us queuing in the rain with no social distancing measures whatsoever. To make matters worse there was another queue for walk ins only and they allGot in faster than those that booked. When we did get in no hand gel offered or track and trace check in. Staff all over the place. Food took ages to arrive and was clearly under the heat for a while as most of it was dried out. We asked for ketchup and milk which were just grabbed from the next table and not wiped down so we had to do that ourselves. Waited 20 minutes for the bill. This place used to be at the top of the game, I get that times are hard but customers are still paying. Won’t be going back I’m afraid.

I have always loved the Tavern for breakfast and the waiters are lovely and helpful. However, I felt bad for them today due to the lack of social distancing in place. It seemed like the focus was solely on filling every table up rather than on safety measures. I understand it’s a tough time for businesses but it was disappointing to see. There were hand gel stations around the restaurant but other than that it didn’t feel particularly safe.When we arrived we had to join a busy queue outside, where everyone was standing very closely together (despite booking in advance). It seemed overbooked in general, even if there wasn’t a pandemic going on! Inside there was a crowd of people hovering around waiting in the bar area that we had to get past. The tables were all full and particularly close together upstairs which all felt very chaotic. You wouldn’t have been able to tell there was a pandemic going on if the waiters hadn’t been wearing masks.

This a a restaurant, it offers a selection of deserts, which I found to be a disappointing response.At no point during the meal were we asked by anyone was everything ok, NOT ONCE! only on asking for the bill and on payment were we asked did we enjoy the meal, by which time our coats were on ready to depart, so left feeling disappointed, the nachos and chicken wings were starters for us, so we had no main, also cheese cake was on the menu but not available hence just the three deserts ordered, the wife only eats cheese cake.This is a long established restaurant, and it needs a wake up call, there are much better restaurants on its door step who will pull the rug from under its feet unless it shapes up, it’s taking its custom for granted.I’m sure the breakfasts are ok but I doubt I’ll ever be in a rush to find out!

I literally used to eat here at least twice a month and when family or friends visited , this was the restaurant of our choice. It was always superb and I always left a 5 star comment on their review card. The menu changed some time ago and we had a very disappointing meal so have not been back for over a year. Can somebody please explain why the delicious wedges have been replaced by really bland French fries. Anyway, my son has been at me to take him back to his favourite restaurant of his youth. The food was very ordinary. The chicken burrito was really poor, this used too be my favourite meal. The staff were however, as good as ever. Attended to our every need, very polite and a joy to be served by. Just a pity that the food that always earned five stars, barely deserves one. How can a restaurant that was so good, become so bad. Are they just concentrating on breakfasts now?

Pedimos comida y bebidas y en 15 minutos estaba en nuestra mesa, pero las bebidas no estaban a la vista. Pedimos pollo frito Keiths y una hamburguesa con nachos. Los platos estaban bien calientes pero la comida estaba fría con las patatas fritas incluso poco cocidas. Todo sabía a comida congelada barata apresurada que me dejó un poco estafado.Un amigo me dijo antes de visitar que habían visto al personal entrar por la parte de atrás con bolsas llenas de compras de Asda para servir. Descarté esto, pero después de probar la comida de primera mano, creo que pueden haber estado diciendo la verdad porque no era mejor que lo que recoges en el pasillo de congelados.Sé que los tiempos son difíciles para los restaurantes en este momento, pero esta vez sentí que algún otro lugar debería haberse beneficiado de nuestra costumbre.

¡Vine aquí para una cita con un amigo y pensé que era tan agradable! Nunca he estado en ningún lugar que ofrezca té o café gratis y el personal estuvo tan atento a la hora de venir a ver si necesitábamos una recarga. I went here with my daughter and son today 17/09/20 for a late brunch i was very disappointed as i drove from Manchester to liverpool for this rubbish the waiter with coffee and the waitress was very nice but the food was freezing cold the sausages were cold uncooked and disgusting the bacon was raw and £2.99 for a measly tiny bowl of French fries bleeding hell! I was so upset i couldn't talk as i wasted my day off on this crap wetherspoons is way more quality food than this and i dont even like wetherspoons. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY I WORK VERY HARD FOR MINE AND LIKE GOOD FOOD THIS WAS SO DISSAPOINTING!!!Wish I took more pics to show you.I had to give it one star to write a review from me its nerds no no no!

Breakfasts may be good here but the evening meals are pretty average. Visited on Sunday and apart from the food being just 'ok', service wasn't great either. My auntie's meal was cold when it came, so the waiter returned it to the kitchen and had a fresh one made. It was hot when it came the second time... but everyone else had finished. And we were still charged in full. Wasn't impressed at all.

Waited at least 20 minutes to be served. Had to ask for one of our drinks as it had not come before the food got here, cutlery was not here when food arrived. We didn't get our coffee/tea for a good 30 minutes after arriving. Finally got the bill and still had to wait ages to pay.Not impressed!!!

We have just been for a family meal, the cocktails were sent back as they were absolutely disgusting, the Prosecco not much better. The fries were cold and the food below average. The menu they gave us for drinks was out of date so then had to listen to the waiter reel off a whole list of beers, couldn’t really hear what he was saying.The staff seem to congregate about a metre away from our table and were constantly standing very close to us or stretching over when the could have just put the stuff at the end of the table to adhere to social distancing, o won’t be going back in a hurry, even decided to have dessert home as didn’t want to risk what was going to be served

I have been a patron of The Tavern since the early 90’s and class this place as aLiverpool institution.However, the experience we encountered yesterday was was disappointing to say the least. Firstly the staff seemed to be runn8ng around like headless chickens despite there being more than enough of them given that the restaurant wasn’t busy at all.We were sat around without menus or a drinks order being taken, despite tables around us, who arrived after us being attended to?Now to the food, as I say I frequented The Tavern for nearly 30 years and the quality of food has always been first class. Unfortunately, the fayre that was presented to me yesterday was an abomination. The burger patties which have always been handcrafted in days gone by had been replaced by cheap, ready made burgers with no taste whatsoever. They reminded me of tinned beef burgers that you can buy in dodgy supermarkets.The consistency was that of card board and totally flavourless.The fries that used to be had made were again, frozen bought in from an Iceland or somewhere of that ilk.They have obviously been a victim of the current hell we are all now embroiled in and have cut costs by purchasing cheap ingredients.I’m really not enjoying writing this as I have many fond memories of this place.Such a shame

We’ve been in your restaurant many of times and never had a problem, however, last night my partner and I were very disappointed with the service we received.Our waiter just didn’t seem to be interested. I’m not sure if he had been on all day and was just tired but we just didn’t get the service we usually get. We had to constantly wave him over or someone else because he Just wasn’t attentive. For example, sauces with the meal, extra drinks, deserts, the bill and the payment. We wanted to pay cash but because of the time he was taking, we decided to pay card so we didn’t have to wait for the change. Regretfully, we didn’t want to leave the change as we felt the service didn’t deserve it. We would have left £9.30 if it was the girl from the front who served us. She was more attentive and wasn’t even our waiter. Our waiter spent most of his time at the “bar” area talking to the guy behind there, or resetting for the next day. Our menu on the table had no deserts in it and he didn’t come back for us to ask for one. We got one from another table in the end then asked another staff member to take the order. The Tavern has a great reputation for breakfast and it shows with how busy it always is. There may be a reason why it’s so quiet in the evenings, it’s definitely not the food as that was amazing. I’d be looking at the service and drinks, as my cocktail was terrible.

Ordered a sundae and coffee and only the coffee arrived, had to ask again for the sundae after a further 15-20 minutes. Pre booked a table for 6. Table ready and clean for when we arrived. Tables spread a safe distance apart during our visit. Food and service excellent even though the place was really busy all our food arrived quickly and it was delicious. Staff really friendly nothing is too much trouble and the milkshakes are amazing! My partner and myself came here for breakfast, the only issue I had was we made it clear when booking that one of the party could only eat GF. We research a lot before booking to make sure that there is enough choice for my partner. When we arrived we only had normal menus, it was quite hard to get the attention of someone to find a menu that had the allergy information on it. Luckily they had a copy of the menu online which we used, I’m just glad it was readily available. Apart from that it was enjoyable. First time visiting after recommendation from a friend. Booked the meal and when we arrived was told to wait until the table was available, which is fine until walk ins get seated before you and then it seems there’s no point in booking. The queue was very disorganised and the waitress on the door seemed the be letting everyone have a table which already made me worry about table spacing and the amount of people. We finally were seated on our table and there was a lack of hand sanitiser and distancing between the tables. It seemed as though they’d crammed as many people in as possible to benefit from the ‘eat out to help out scheme’ and staff had their masks around their chins. The meals were overpriced for what they were worth and it was only with the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme that the prices seemed acceptable. I’d question if the menus were wiped down and tables properly cleaned but then again it’s that dark in there I’m not sure you can see. The service was slow and the staff mumbled at you and didn’t seem to check if food was ok just plonked it down and went away. There seemed to be a severe lack of organisation and it was all a disappointing mess and I most definitely won’t be returning!

Its usually if not always busy so they must be doing something right. We had been meaning to try the place for a long while and eventually did today. The staff where generally lovely, the bacon was very good, but the rest just average. I liked the fact coffee/tea was included and replensihed quite regularaly, the orange juice was fresh, however I dont think we would go again partly because its not so local. For cheap and cheerful we go to a wetherspoons, if we are looking for something a bit more special we go to the quater, this sits somewhere in between

I came here for the first time for breakfast and was very impressed with the menu choice and the quality of food, I had the American but switched out the beans for Black Pudding.Staff were friendly however where we sat was slightly out of the way so the servers forgot to bring us out cutlery etc.Would definitely visit again!

I came with my family on wednesday for a breakfast, the restaurant was very busy and we were already waiting for it to take time to attend us. Waited 10 minutes to have a table, 10 minutes to bring cups and ask if we wanted some drinks and food, the tavern was very busy and yet I was well served as the waitress was really friendly, I had to be patient to wait, but it is worth. The drinks took longer to arrive than the food, the waitress warned us that the bar was very busy and that in 3 minutes our drinks would arrive, the food was wonderful and arrived quickly, my family loved it and I want to go back again !! Just have patience and try to understand that all restaurants with 50% are really busy and working hard.

Arrived outside the restaurant at 12 after being told I couldn’t book a table and it was a half an hour que, completely understandable with current eat out scheme so we were willing to wait. When we arrived there was a crowd of people outside both sides of the restaurant so we went to the back of the poorly organised que. After half an hour we began to notice people walking into the restaurant or just going to the front of the que, there was no organisation to this and myself and other customers waiting to go in we’re becoming frustrated. A staff member then came out and said that there had been a power cut and thus, even though the restaurant was empty we could not be seated until further notice. At 1pm after waiting an hour not on person outside had been seated however we were still being told to wait for a table. There was then a sudden movement and a man id been chatting to in the que was about to go in who was also a walk in, I watched the staff member turn down people who had bookings for 1pm as he had to get customers who were waiting over an hour in and he then went on to tell the man infront of us to pretend he had a booking and let him in. As me and my friends were next we then went up to the counter to be told that walk ins weren’t allowed in any longer. I think the customer service in the tavern is shocking after waiting one hour, watching others walk in and to be told “it’s not my problem” and lied to when I was stood there and heard him have the conversation of pretending to have a booking is absolutely disgusting. Wouldn’t come again purely down to this mans customer service could of been handled completely differently.

Booked for brunch on a Saturday morning and under current circumstances - I wouldn’t recommend if you’re bothered about social distancing etc. From the outside it looks like a great process is in place, on the inside, tables are cramped in, and tables are rammed - just feels incredibly unsafe didn’t see a table cleaned once in between customers either. As a gluten free customer the food was average at best and don’t 100% trust that food was cooked in a gluten free safe way as I didn’t feel well after. My partner enjoyed his meal but wasn’t anything that looked amazing.

Me and the Wife went last week for our Anniversary, waited about 5 minutes for our reserved table but it was worth the wait. Food was amazing ordered a starter and main from lunch menu, we were given a free drink of choice each for the short wait we endured. The staff were really helpful and friendly who gave us a suitable table by the window which would have accommodated more than two people. Staff, decor and background music set the tone for a fantastic night out. We will “be back”

I have been going to the Tavern for years. It used to be my favourite place for breakfast/brunch and also for dinner. The last few times I have been for breakfast has been extremely disappointing. The quality of food has gone completely downhill and customer service has been poor. I kept going back a few times despite poor experience but I have given up. Last night I went for dinner and likewise to breakfast I kept giving it benefit of doubt and like to support local business. My friend and I ordered drinks and we waited a good 10 minutes for them to arrive and table next to us who ordered after us got drinks first.I ordered nachos for starter and I was probably not even halfway through and a waitress brought our main course. However she saw I was eating and apologised and took it back to kitchen. Not even a minute later a waiter (who took our order) returned with mains and he just put them on the table not acknowledging that I on starters! I queried this but he didn't say much and then I said can he please box up nachos as may as well take them home since I paid 10 quid for it! He said yes... walked away and just put a box on table for me to box up myself! Didn't have much room on table given I had my 2 courses, my friends main dish and drinks plus the box so was very frustrating and felt very let down and frustrated!The food was very average and just nothing specialIn addition the menus (in particular drinks menu) is the same after each table so not very Covid-19 safe! Also didn't follow any track and trace procedures.Anyway after last night it is about strike 4 or 5 and I just can't give them another chance! Time to find another breakfast and also Mexican restaurant.

Haven't been to the Tavern for about 4 years as the stress of actually trying to get a table takes up pretty much all of your day and I just end up going to Moose instead.Due to restrictions being eased they have now introduced a booking system which is what I've always dreamed of! I heard a couple of years ago that the breakfast standards had dropped but it was so much better than I remember! Only downside is they've taken the lemon curd and raspberry pancakes off the menu Will definitely make regular returns now that we can actually book a table.

It was so good to be able to get back into the Tavern to sit down for a meal. Since lockdown started we have been using them for grocery deliveries and then home delivery/collection when they started serving again. We decided after 2 weeks of fully re-opening that it was time to visit our fave restaurant again for an evening meal - and it was as good as ever!! The food was amazing, the staff very friendly and polite, as if there had never been a break in service. The layout is perfect, plenty of room between tables and everything is cleaned down after each table has finished. Lots of hand sanitisers around and signs around for keeping your distance. So good to be back, looking forward to our next breakfast there :) thank you Tavern!!

We are locals that love to support local businesses and buy from our local area we have many great times here and enjoy the great food and service but today was absolutely terrible experience! What can I say a totally let down.We waited for 30 minutes in the rain past our original booking time and we where 10 minutes early as suggested by restaurant so 40 minutes later we where seated at dirty sticky table at back in poorly lighted area with terrible smell of poop we tried to get a person attention but no on bothered to come over after 10 minutes a waitress flew cups at us and milk that was half used didn't ask if we wanted a drink or if we where happy or needed anything that was finally nail in coffin I got up with my family and left as we didn't think service was acceptable. We didn't order any food or drinks and didn't even sort out the first problem of change tables as it the original table was not great for a family with young child.As many people know the last few months have been tough as I know working as part health care sector having a day off is true treat and special time but our family day has been let down by poor service given today.What even worst the staff thanked us and said see you soon I didn't know if laugh or bark bit politely said thank you back. Me nor my family will not be returning any time soon as I would go to better restaurants in the area that are not over hipe or over price restaurants than could do with using cleaning products and stop awful smells ruin experience that lack attention.Traven co get back to being best breakfast in area as you will lose valued customers that will get better else where and step up on the cleaning and smelly issues this virus hasn't gone away! Shame on you for ignorance! I wouldn't give a rating for poor customer service and care.

Normally go to this place and the only thing you can moan about is the small cups for tea or coffee. Not today. First time out with the girls since lock down and was really looking forward to this. Got there and they tried to put us on a table in the dark with x2 candles as the light was broken . It was 11.00am.We asked to be moved, which we were. Mine and my other friends breakfasts where lovely, but my daughter ordered the vegetarian option with poached eggs, that were basically hard boiled and her sausages were cremated. Her friend ordered beans on toast. She got bean on toast. Not a spelling mistake,, bean! Basically x2 spoons of beans in a tiny dish next to her toast. We did bring this to the attention of staff and another small dish was brought. No one came over to ask if our food was fine, like they normally do, not long after you start eating.We were offered x2 top ups of tea /coffee, then ignored the rest of the meal. We asked for the bill and waited quiet a while for it to come. We were then asked if everything was OK after we had paid . When my daughter informed the waiter that actually it was not, he looked at her, said sorry and walked away, nothing more. No, questions about the problem and no feed back form that we always get asked to fill in with the bill. Will give this place one more try and go else where if we have the same treatment.

Having been several times for takeout / collection during the lockdown, in a bid to help local businesses we have enjoyed every meal... that is, until today. "Normal Service " it seems has been resumed. I ordered two meals via their website, for pickup, as I had done previously... and told them who I was and what I ordered when I got to the collection window. I was told it would be five minutes. 20 minutes later I asked the same girl again where my order was, and she said check, and came back saying they'd forgotten and it wouldn't be long now. Explaining that now they were open properly again, they'd been dead busy as if that was a good enough excuse for my order to be overlooked.Finally my food arrived, dropped onto the collection and she turned to walk off. no napkins, cutlery or sauces offered.I got back to the car, and opened the boxes to see one half of the burger glued to the carton with the melted cheese, a portion of half cooked chips that would fill the smallest of children, and no sign of the supposed freshly made in house slaw that the burgers should have been served with. The lettuce was slimy and chewy, and a single pickle, and a single sliver of onion was the "salad" Needless to say we barely ate any of it, but the local magpies had a good feed instead.It's a shame to see that The Tavern Co have seemingly forgotten it was people like us who kept them going with their takeout service during lockdown, and not all of us are able to "go back to normal" Feels like the patrons indoors were far more important than the likes of us given that I was only ordering food and surely they were making far more money off the customers buying drinks inside. The inexperienced staff could do with some further training in customer service also.We will be returning to other local establishments who may still appreciate the customers who supported them during their hardest times.

Compared to the breakfast pre covid I must say we were very disappointed to say the least, for the following reasons:Price increase from 7.95 to 9.90 ( to be expected)Plates are smaller, as are portions Toast not the same Sausage and bacon cold and not as tasty, cheap ingredients Mushrooms overcooked and black pudding dry.Tasted like they are using hot plates to keep things warm when they used to be cooked fresh. Only thing we enjoyed was the poached egg.Sounds like there is a new chef or standards have dropped dramatically.This is a place we liked to go previously however will be looking elsewhere

We came here around 12, it was very busy but managed to sit us down pretty fast! Unfortunately we were placed in the window, but because there was no blinds overheated for the entire time there! However the worst of it all was our waiter, who constantly ignored us throughout our time there! The food was lovely and came very quickly, but due to the waiter was sat there for approximately 2 hours when it should’ve been a quick meal! It had the potential to be a great place with great food, but unfortunately due to the waiter being rude our experience was very poor!

I will not be returning to the tavern we have been recommending it to our customers for years but our latest visit will be the last , very dry food served from a warmer egg like plastic bacon dry black pudding rock hard I understand that with such volume pre-cooking is a must to prevent waiting , This is not what you expect from a £10 breakfast The Tavern breakfast of old was amazing but on the last 3 visits it was mediocor at best . We have came to this restaurant for many years for breakfast to celebrate birthdays etc. We will no longer be returning after our most recent visit. Slow service, no customer service skills, staff dont pay attention... the list goes on. Ordered pancakes to come out after our breakfast they didnt come out and still billed us for them, only just warm food! Sausages where reheated and nothing tasted fresh. Ordered a jug of water that took 20 minutes and the restaurant wasnt even that busy. Customer service skills are absolutely shocking compared to what they used to be! For the price you are paying I can get better service and quality food from a local corner cafe. I hope they sort this out because it used to be one of the best! Massively gone down hill.

Firstly, it was too dark to see our food. Had to use the torch on our phone to see our nachos. Which were soggy - but not from an excess of toppings. Not good for £10. Overall taste of the food was average, quite bland. One of our main courses arrived with the starter. The fajitas arrived on a plate not the skillet advertised. £2.50 side salad was a bowl of iceberg lettuce and one sliced tomato. One of the side dishes didn’t arrive at all. When the bill arrived we told the waitress who said “oh I’ll take that off” without surprise or an apology - as if this is a regular and perfectly normal occurrence .

Visited on Saturday for an early dinner. It was absolutely packed and there were a lot of big birthday groups in. Service was patchy but friendly. It was so dark! We asked for an additional calendar but had to also use our phone torch just to see the menu! We noticed other diners do the same. We both had burgers and enjoyed them. Nothing amazing but tasty. The music was good (if a bit loud on top of a very busy night) and the music decorations are great which helps the atmosphere. All in all an ok place to go if you're in the mood for a casual night.

Cheap bacon, cheap beans, both versions of sausage leave a lot to be desired and the toast was made with stale bread! Went for a meal with friends, their's was as expected. My Pork Belly was not what I ordered. Soft crackling, a lump of uncooked fat on top of meat, and the meat so tough I had to give up trying to chew it. Sweet potato pie tasteless.Yes we were asked was the food okay, we said yes, but it was not good.It was early evening, so not too busy to cook properly.The broccoli and sauce was nice, the staff were nice. La cena di compleanno in questo locale dall'apparenza simpatica incomincia con peggiore frozen margarita che abbia mai bevuto: ghiaccio mal tritato con cubetti interi e praticamente niente alcool, niente sale, niente di niente. L'ho rimandato indietro. Un hamburgher gourmet mangiato solo per metà, in quanto parzialmente carbonizzato. Un misto vegetale assolutamente insapore mangiato sì e no per un terzo. Insomma, bevande e portate rimandate indietro quasi per intero e nessuno che si sia degnato di chiederci il motivo. Quasi ridicolo che a fine pasto ci abbiano portaro il conto per intero (mostruosamente caro in rapporto alla pessima qualità del cibo) accompagnato da un cartoncino sul quale scrivere un nostro commento. Il peggiore pasto mai mangiato a Liverpool.

We go to the Tavern often, have done for years. We always enjoy the feel of the place. The amount of people there every time speaks volumes. The staff are amazing, the food is always excellent and the prices are always fair. The only thing I miss is the Joe Blacks Decaff coffee.

Sunday morning breakfast set us up for the rest of the day - I had the full English with Cumberland sausage, my companion tortillas. It was incredibly busy, but my fears about slow or distracted service were groundless. Rapid and polite food service, had to ask for our first coffee but topups arrived promptly thereafter. Food was hot and tasty, the place was buzzing, staff were friendly, recommended.

Went to the tavern for brunch and wasn’t overly impressed with it as ordered something that wasn’t a breakfast however my mate ordered a brekkie and said it was lush! Maybe it’s the kind of place to just eat breakfast, the wait time for a table and food was good to say the place was packed and the waiting on staff were lovely!

Sorry but you have dropped the ball. Breakfast was warm, and the gourmet Cumberland was ok but small, considering to have to pay extra for it! Been coming for a few years too. Has the management changed lately?

Went back to tavern after 2 year break because quality had gone and unfortunately not got any better, it appears that all efforts going into breakfast and none into evening food; worst steaks in a while; staff attentive but just want you out as quick as possible; lot of great places to eat in Liverpool now, this is not one, look elsewhere unless your desperate and want to waste money on under average food

Been coming here for a long time use to be my to go place... now i will never go back, bacon wasn’t cooked food was freezing staff have no clue what there doing ,and smells of we#d every time i go in there if i was the owner i really try that BACON and get my staff training up to date. also i asked were my tips would be going as i seen something on the liverpool city echo and young man said they don’t get to keep there tips that really was all i could take like i said i been coming here for a long time and after all that time just found this out as an ex waiting on staff i know how much your tips mean to you i can say they have lots a customer for LIFE and why i am at it the breakfast price has gone up but the food is now half the size really just save your money you could make a nicer breakfast your self... really need to think if you want to last

Arrived 9:45am and the place was heaving. Loved the ambience, excellent service, great food .... we had two vegetarian and a full English bfast plus two plates of pancakes split three ways. Definitely recommended for quality of food and of service. No reservations.
