Tavern Cafe Bar in Highland

A short walk from our hotel and was a great find. Lorna was fun and pleasant. Great chatting with a local about things to experience while in town. Large portions, great prices and by chance, a BOGO promo going on which gave us a little more budget for a few extra pints. :)

Lovely meal (2 for 1 on mains) friendly and helpful staff and a really nice atmosphere. Had loaded fries with haggis to share as a starter, mains of veg lasagne, Mac cheese with bacon and a portion of chips. 2 vodka cokes and 2 bottles of peroni. £43 . Couldn't fault anything at all, just perfect. Too full for desert but what I saw coming out for other tables looked lovely.

Staff lovely but food average , a bit cold to sit, looks inviting from outside but not too cosy inside, could do with some sort of heating. Very cheap deals, food bogof

I absolutely adore this wee place. Food was beautiful, the staff had amazing banter. Micky the bar man was on absolute point with his jokes and patter. The tavern is a wee place but trust me, you do not leave hungery. HIGHLY recommended this place. If you want proper homemade food and a good laugh, head here. Cheers again for a fantastic night! 😁

A group of 26 on Staff night out, great service and food was excellent as it is always. Kitchen and FOH staff did an excellent job.

Were lucky to find this place, exactly what we needed! We received a charming warm welcome from our lovely server, who was a gem throughout, as well as the bar tender. Had a couple of lovely pints, plus the haggis dinner and haggis burger. Both were super hearty, tasty and good portions. Was also a 2-4-1 off season deal which was amazing value. A perfect pit stop after a long drive - would definitely recommend for a cosy, warming winter meal!

Visited with friends having unsuccessfully trying to get a table last time we were up this way We found the food to be average quality which was overpriced Service was quick We also paid £21 for a bottle of wine which we could have got at local supermarket for about £5 and that would of been what it was worth (we left half a bottle) We are at 8 and before we were finished our drinks staff started putting chairs on tables and clearing up around us We won’t be going back

the tavern is a great resturaunt with very good food, and excellent staff. I had the steaki pie and it was the best that I have had in Scotland. My wifes Chilli was also excellent.One downside is that you cannot book a table, just have to take a table when available. Was a little difficult for us as my wife is in a wheelchair, so booking ahead is essential.

Went for Sunday roast was amazing fresh home cooking lots veg and lots roast beef .lovely staff so friendly and helpful .will deffo go back and highly recommend couldn't find any fault 💕

Un restaurant de centre d'une petite ville, bondé dès 17h car le choix est relativement limité pour trouver quelque chose de typique après les heures de bureau. Accueil sympa, cuisine plutôt moyenne, j'ai voulu tester une "meat pie" mais j'ai eu du mal à trouver la viande. Les légumes.. Tout droit sorti du congélateur je pense. C'est une petite usine qui n'en a certes pas le décor, et si vous voulez manger dans le calme, ce n'est pas le lieu non plus. Fan de Sticky Toffee Pudding, c'était mon premier en Écosse, plutôt moyen... Il suffit de voir la tranche pour comprendre que c'est du "réchauffé".

Edit: Returned for a 3rd time, this is one of the best restaurants in the area - a must try if you find yourself nearby. Lunch and dinner available, and you'll find yourself returning - just make sure you save space for dessert, as they're a must try too! -- first visit: Firstly, seats are limited, but it's worth the wait. I had the steak burger, chips, and salad, it comes with a salsa sauce and you can ask for other sauce too such as mayonnaise. Really good quality meat, and overall great meal, lovely staff, and beautiful surrounding.

Our Food wasn't good. The pasta was super soft and the sauce had a weird consistency. The fries were soft and dry. The service was nice. It was really loud.

I arrived on a Tuesday night after 8.pm and it was fairly busy but I managed to get in. I am celiac and when I mentioned it they produced a gluten free menu. They knew what they we’re talking about. I ordered the chilli beef nachos and the portion was massive. Spicy and very tasty. The staff were busy but really helpful and friendly. A great atmosphere. Recommended and I’ll definitely be back.

Good simple food at a reasonable price

On a recent visit to Fort William we decided to dine here on one of nights, as the choice on the menu suited all of us. The food was amazing, it was served to us hot & tasty. Cannot fault it at all. The staff were amazing too, nothing too much trouble and actually had a chat with you. One of the friendliest eateries I’ve been too. We enjoyed it that much we went back on the second night. Great place.

Nice warm friendly atmosphere. Staff joked and had a laugh with you . Excellent service and food to a good standard . Would recommend if you wanted to have quick and tasty . My wife had Cullen skink and we shared nachos with chilli which both hit the spot .

This was a return visit. We were up on business for a couple of nights and of all the local choices opted to eat at this establishment both days. We were not disappointed, the food was as good if not even better than our last visit. All the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful in allowing us to make our choices. I opted for the chicken wings in a thai sauce that was a real culinary delight, have never tasted any sauce aso full of flavour. I would go as far to say this was the best I have ever tasted, compliments to the chef. So much so I had a double portion the second visit. On the first day I ordered penne carbonara and paid extra for mozzerella on the accompanying garlic bread which brought out the flavour in the carbonara I was not disappointed. To finish I ordered sticky toffee pudding with icecream served with toffee sauce again complementing the dish. My wife had the sweet of the day caramel salted cheesecake. Like, fresh, intense flavour. All round everything we had excelled our expectations making it a fine dining experience and we will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

The Beef and Ale Pie and Penne Carbonara were both marvelous. Our food was brought to us very quickly, and the staff was very kind and welcoming. Highly recommend!!

It's OK for a quick bite to eat. Staff were friendly, and the service was quick. Fort William is very expensive.

We were expecting “corporate food”, but received two wonderful meals that seemed freshly prepared. I had the pan fried salmon with lemon butter and mashed potatoes, carrots and haricots. The salmon was prepared perfectly—moist and flavorful. My husband had the Neeps, Tatties and Haggis and he said it was delicious—he especially liked the neeps and the whiskey sauce. We both had the Cullen skink, and it was wonderful—loaded with fish and perfectly seasoned. Give this place a try—looks can be deceiving!

The worst burger in my life and absolutely overpriced!would pay for this not more than 5£! Not welcoming atmosphere!!!

The first thing which striked walking in was the smell. There was a distinct and strong smell which is best described as something like an old people's home / care home - that sort of metallic tangy iron taste mixed with humanity. But I think you get used to it by the time you sit down. The service was more of a pub than a restaurant. It was quick and to-the-point (and perhaps w/ a slight aggressive no-BS vibe). The food itself was decent. It did not really feel restaurant quality, but much beyond your standard pub/Spoons level.

Per cena abbiamo preso un salmone affumicato ottimo e un gran classico fish and chips. Camerieri gentilissimi e prezzi nella media. Locale non rumoroso ed in centro al paese.

We were served quickly and the food came quickly,food was avarage,we ordered some chips but didn't come with our food,upon payment of the bill we realised the chips were not on the bill so it wasn't the chefs fault but the servers for not ordering,mash potato was like chalk as if it had been standing for a long time,wouldn't go there again,

Regular pub food no surprise. We ordered 2 dishes of their salmon. One of them did taste like salmon. The other one was fine.

Got the fish and chips - probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had in a restaurant and the service felt rude and rushed. However the dessert was pretty scrumptious. The place can get pretty crowded and busy fast since there's not many places to eat nearby too so make sure to come early if no reservation

The food was overpriced for just average quality. I had the Cullen skink and water, my husband had the sticky chicken and chips with a beer and it was $45.

Service wasn’t great. Our drinks order still hadn’t been taken 10 mins after being seated. Young girl very busy waitressing whilst three members of staff stood chatting at the bar. We were just about to leave as became aware that two tables beside us still had their empty plates and also discussing that other waitresses too busy chatting when we were finally served. Food was nice and good portion but service was disappointing

We had to que to get a table, so we thought clearly a good sign! Didn't take too long and nice lady that seated us. Drinks were limited as all the draught was off, so one bottle of lager to offer peroni. We had already looked at the menu so we're ready to order right away, the food came very fast but I could have made this better at home. Pasta tomato and basil with added chicken and veg. Bland totally tasteless and paid extra for vey little veg and chicken to be added. Was expensive for what we got. They decided the restaurant was closed instead of closing the door or a polite sign they just kept shouting "sorry were closed for the evening "!! The lady I assumed owned /managed the restaurant was very rude. Would definitely not return here again.

Had a half hour wait as they don’t take bookings. Decent food which is priced more or less the same as everywhere else in the area. Friendly cheery staff.

Not the quickest or best service. Food was ok. Took a while to be seated at a table when there were two available. Once seated, it took 5 minutes for a server to take our order, another 10 to get our drinks which was just a pop and water. Food was quickly made though. We asked for our bill and then the same server came back to us asking if we wanted the bill…would not return.

The food was excellent - I recommend. The scottish haggis, neep and tatties were the best thing we ate in our trip to Scotland.

We ordered 2 pints, all was fine. After 10 min, they asked us to leave the place because they were fully booked. So we had to finish our pints in 1min.. I understand they are fully booked but they should have communicated this with us so we could find another place. Really rude staff!

The best meal we've had so far in Scotland. Very flavourful food. Prompt service, very courteous staff, fun vibe. We had a lovely evening! Recommend the Cajun Chicken (the Indian in me loved the spice!) and the Bailey's bread and butter pudding.

Sans réservation à 4 pour 19h30 nous n'avons pas attendu très longtemps pour être placés malgré une salle pas très grande car le service est optimisé. Les plats sont de bonne qualité avec des suggestions du jour. Visiblement le service est non compris car surligné sur la note, nous avons donc laissé 10% en plus mais certains clients ne l'ont pas fait.

DON’T GO THERE!! Terrible place, terrible food, terrible music. Burnt nachos and not even close to a juicy beef burger. Save your money!

Just finished the beef burger with extra chorizo. Easily one of the best burgers I've ever been served really hit the spot and the chorizo gave it that extra kick. Service was impeccable and fast. Great place, will be back!

The service was very good, nice welcoming staff. Took sizzling chicken fajitas, although not sizzling they were still good and in abundance. (Good to share). Fish and chips and nachos looked also nice and good. Recommended.

We came for lunch and quickly told staff that we only had an hour to eat as we were on a tour. There was only one server for the entire restaurant, and she never came to take our order. I ended up walking to the bar and ordering there. Again told her we had a time constraint. She then proceeded to hang out with the other servers and gossip and complain about the customers. Finally ten minutes later she poured our drinks. We'd ordered simple food so that hopefully it would come quickly. My son ordered chicken wings; they were mediocre. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad, figuring that was hard to screw up. Turns out I was wrong. It was the worst salad I've ever had. The Iceberg lettuce (!!) was shredded, a few wedges of mushy tomatoes (in a Caesar?) and boiled chicken were DRENCHED in the worst bottled Caesar dressing. The plate looked like white mush. It was inedible. I ate a few pieces of chicken. When the server collected the plates she did not mention that I hadn't eaten and did not ask how we enjoyed the food. I had to chase her down for the bill. If I could give zero stars I would. They are busy because all the restaurants in town are busy. But they are a complete disappointment and the worst experience in a restaurant that I've had in years.

Found this little Tavern on the high st and while we had to wait a little bit for a table we sat at the bar and enjoyed a cocktail until a table was ready. The food was really nice and the service very friendly!

Food was only just OK, prices are simply daft (18 quid for a burger!) - place didn't feel particularly clean to me, although in fairness it wasn't filthy either. Toilet floors are lethally slippy for anyone with poor mobility. Service was good and the coffee was pleasant.

One of the best meals of my life. I had the fajitas for the main and my friend had haggis, needs and tatties. Absolutely delicious but the star of the show was the haggis fritters. They were incredible and easily one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. The service was friendly and welcoming and the food was served quickly despite it being busy. A superb experience😃

Massive disappointment, starters were OK. But the 2 mains we ordered were massively underwhelming . After a week in Scotland was easily the worst meal we have had. And for the money we spent we left quickly with a disgruntled and unsatisfied feeling... even if it was 2 for 1 would still have felt the same.....
