Delicious definitely best Indian in the borders

An impromptu decision turned out to be one of the best meals. Impeccable, warm, kind service of aromatic amazing food. Chef is rather clever with his spices. Will definitely be returning, there are quite a few more dishes that we want to try.

I was back in Selkirk visiting family and friends and these days, the best way for our group of friends to meet up is definitely a meal at the Indian. Selkirk has no pub life whatsoever now, a real sad one to take. However, the ‘Taste Of Spice’ never fails to deliver, both in value for money and the quality of dining. Always offering a warm and comfortable atmosphere, with staff politely waiting on your every need, we were sat down at our table and had a pint of Cobra in front of us (within five minutes). I ordered the ‘norm’ for me - Chicken Pakora (always the way) followed by Garlic Chilli Lamb, sharing my Rice and Naan Bread with the rest of the lads. Of course, we all dug into some Poppadoms at the start, accompanied by a decent Pickle Tray. Verdict - no complaints, smashing food, empty plates. Coming in at around £40 per head, for effectively three mains, two sides and a few pints, it was by no means a dent on the bank balance. This amount included a tip as well. Another wonderful meal in what I believe is a real pillar within the Selkirk business / restaurant industry - the place has stood the test of time, lockdown and economy crashes, but still keeps going and above all, is always producing great food at an affordable price. An easy 5/5.

Was pleasantly surprised. We were from out of town and fancied a curry, and Taste of Spice came up trumps. Good service. Our starters and main courses were both good. I can recommend the lamb bhuna curry! My wife's vegetarian option was also good, and we shared a tarka dal. Good all round meal, reasonable expense, nice setting.

First time visiting here and was blown away by how pleasant and attentive the staff were and the food was absolutely fantastic! I went for a chicken jalfrezi which had spectacular flavours and the heat to back it up but it was not overpowering! My partner had the chicken tikka and thoroughly enjoyed every part of it! A lot of food for a reasonable price! 10/10 !

Ordered online and as advertised expected 20% discount. £9 should have been taken off the bill but hadn’t. I mentioned this when I picked up our order. Was told that there had been an issue & not to worry the money would be paid back onto the card I paid with. Food was delicious as usual HOWEVER the money still hasn’t been refunded, when phoned to query this was told I had to contact Fusion 🤔I phoned the number they gave me and it was a wrong number. I then popped in to Taste of Spice but got nowhere. Very disappointed

I have eaten in this establishment many times, when i lived in the borders and since moving as well. But yesterday evening for the 2nd time in a couple of months their service was a disgrace. I went in and asked for a table for 1 as i was playing in a concert in the town later in the evening, there was no-one else in the restaurant, 40mins later when 2 friends walked in & got a table for 2 without any trouble, it was still virtually empty. I was told i could have a carry out meal, but if i wanted a carry-out i would have asked for one, and i was in a car so hardly practical, virtually the same thing happened at beginning of November. I have given reviews of this restaurant many times, and always been good reviews, but never again will i be in this restaurant, i travelled to Gala Tandoori and was given a table without any hesitation. I havent always eaten on my own, and have taken multiple friends there. You have lost a regular customer and someone who actively encouraged others to eat there, but no more, if my money isnt good enough as a single customer thats fine, im sure Gala Tandoori will receive it happily.

Had a takeaway from here. The curries and rice were good, so no complaint there, but the 'chapatis' were tortilla wraps. Maybe I am out of touch, but I found it very expensive for a takeaway. Usually a takeaway is cheaper than sitting in, so I suspect they did not give any discount for the takeaway.

Ordered and paid for meals at 11.10am to be delivered at 5.20pm only to receive a call at 4.45pm to say they didn't have a driver to deliver !! Will take between 3 and 4 days for the money to be returned to my bank aswell which just adds insult to injury... Last time I'll ever order from here that's for sure , disgraceful customer service

We've been fans of Taste of Spice for years, but tonight surpassed every other meal! I ordered online (fusionfood) at 2.30pm for delivery at 7.30pm... and our doorbell literally rang dead on time. The food was delicious and the delivery lady was as lovely as ever! BRILLIANT 5*

I recently had a takeaway from Taste of Spice in Selkirk and I have to say if I didn’t live 10 mins away by car I would have returned it. I ordered a veggie Curry with Rice and it was absolutely tasteless, no flavour nor depth. I notice a few good reviews for sitting which makes me think the takeaway service is not of the same quality. Sorry but I won’t be back.

myself and the wife visited here 2/9/22 and the food is excellent,service polite and quick. i love madras currys and i have to say i have had many curries in many restaurants-but this was eceptional. everything from starters to mains we enjoyed. really recommend if your travelling in the area.

Taste of Spice is a lovely friendly restaurant with delicious dishes & great service from the staff there.

First visit as staying at local hotel. Service was superb. All staff very pleasant & welcoming. The food was very tasty & not overly spicy. Ordered Balti Chicken Tikka & Chicken Tikka Massala with Garlic Corianda Nan. Portions very generous. Would recommend visiting if in the area.

Sorry to say that the prices have gone up substantially making it quite expensive.

I ordered a meal for delivery from this restaurant using their third party online ordering agent Fusion Kitchen. Their agent's website had no option to choose delivery options during the ordering process, but I persevered and received a confirmation email from Fusion Kitchen advising me that my order had been processed and they provided me with a delivery time. I then received a call from Taste of Spice who informed me that the delivery charge would be £11. When I reluctantly agreed to that, the male member of staff there then changed his mind regarding my delivery, and said they would not fulfil my order, saying that I would receive a refund from Fusion Kitchen "Hopefully soon, but maybe in 5 days" and then abruptly hung up. This level of customer service is completely unacceptable.

After a great day at the Selkirk Common riding, managed to get a table and a great feed.

We are here as a group. We arrived early but were told to leave and come back later. Once allowed to order - the service was efficient but not particularly friendly. It felt that they wanted us to eat quickly and leave. Food was average. I had a “3 chilli” dish which only had the mildest heat. A bit disappointing as a package

A little disappointed as I felt the standards of food had slipped from before. Used to be the place to get Indian food but not on top of my list now. Our waiter was awful which certainly didn't help.

Kleines Restaurant mit ca. zehn Tischen am Marktplatz von Selkirk. Zwei Parkplätze mit stattlicher Anzahl an Stellplätzen befinden sich gegenüber. Sehr gute, qualitativ hochwertige Speisen. Die Speisenkarte ist in Stein gemeisselt und als eine Art Flyer einsehbar. Auf ihr sind die Schärfegrade der jeweiligen Gerichte mittels Picktogrammen ersichtlich. Als Vorspeise mundeten Tandoori King Prawns, als Hauptspeise ließen wir Tikka Massala Chicken und Seabass-Filet servieren. Bepreist ist in der Karte alles Einzeln, was bedeutet: jede Beilage angefangen beim Knoblauchbrot über Kartoffeln, diverse Reisarten, Spinat und dgl. wird einzeln berechnet. Da kann ganz schön was zusammen kommen. Das kulinarische Angebot in Selkirk ist nicht zuletzt auch wegen der teils üppigen Ruhetage der Mitanbieter begrenzt. Warum also nicht einmal zum Inder gehen.

Much as I hate to criticise a local business at this time, I feel this review is justified. We ordered a meal for 4 online for our New Year Treat. Our usual favourite place in Gala is shut on a Monday so we gave Taste Of Spice a go, expecting a delicious meal in line with their usual reputation for excellent food. The online ordering and delivery were efficient, so they get one star for that alone. However, the food was very disappointing. Bland, insipid, tasteless, mediocre. The Lamb Saslik was just lamb, no tandoori flavour. The sauce with it was sloppy and insipid. The Patia was bland and tasteless and the portion size was mediocre. The chicken tikka masala tasted like it had been cobbled together with a tin of tomatoes. There was no "delicious spicy sauce" with the peas and panir, it was just plain peas with a claggy mess of crumbled cheese. The poppadoms were crushed to tiny pieces. Overall it was like a cheap supermarket curry or inept home-cooked effort. At over £20 a head (including sides and delivery), we expected better. I would like to think that it was not the usual chef that night (else there would be a lot more negative reviews). We didn't send it back because we are a 15 minute drive away and we were all enjoying a new year drink. The food was edible and we ate it, but honestly I could have done better myself. I could have saved £80. Needless to say, we won't be using them again. I recommend Gala Tandoori in Galashiels.

Really disappointed in the service we received from Taste Of Spice. We booked a table 2 weeks ago and upon arrival, no table had been booked for us and it was fully booked all night. No offer of a reduced price takeaway instead or anything, just simply ‘sorry nothing we can do’ which is not really good enough when we had travelled for the meal which was also booked for a birthday celebration.

Having recently moved to Selkirk we asked neighbours to recommended somewhere for our anniversary meal. Taste of spice was clear winner. Fantastic food excellent service made a special day even better.

As always, a wonderful meal was had at this lovely restaurant.After a hard day's work neither of us could be bothered to cook so we decided to visit Taste of Spice. After being advised that my first choice was not available I had the Chicken Saslik with the recommended Balti sauce and a portion of plain rice. This dish was beautifully spiced and did not, in fact, require the addition of a sauce. I believe it was the best curry I have ever had - it was extremely yum. My partner had the Chicken Tikka Balti with plain rice. Another happy customer. Great meal, reasonable prices, very helpful staff. We most definitely will return (again).

Been a few times , but found it disgracefully overpriced - I try and support local - but this is a joke .I think they have a general sauce on the go and just spice it according to the order , and got far more sauce than meat in the main meals.The chapattis are tiny for £1.45 are a rip off as they are obviously store bought Nissan Chaki Roti chapattis - 99p for a six pack.

We were aware of the good reputation of this establishment due to other reviews but it still exceeded our expectations. We visited as a family with 2 adults and a child. Covid precautions were sensibly observed and sensitively actioned. Although we all enjoy a spicy meal or two, this was our daughter's first visit to an indian restaurant and we will return next year if we visit the area as planned. Service was quick and with a smile which was still evident through the masks worn by service staff. After a lovely starter "combo for two", we also shared dishes ranging from a truly amazing tandoori chicken and a gorgeous chicken tikka masala to a very satisfying chicken bhuna. Staff were very helpful and friendly whilst maintaining a very professional approach. We also liked the decor and the background music. In summary, a really enjoyable family night out. Thank you.

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Taste of Spice recently. This is a lovely, intimate restaurant and staff are very attentive and pleasant. They have tastefully adapted the interior to comply with social distancing using beautiful screens and it has retained its relaxed atmosphere. A routine visit to the 'Taste Of Spice' given the quality of the food again (and that 'Lime Pickle'). This was a last minute choice by my wife's family when we were down visiting.As always, a warm atmosphere promoted by the welcoming staff who couldn't do enough for us. The food, as mentioned above, was packed with flavour and spice - washing it down with a few pints of 'Cobra' never gets old! A great meal surrounded by brilliant people.Already looking forward to our next outing when we are down in Selkirk again. Always a pleasure supporting this local business - one of the best in town!

A fantastic experience, this in my opinion is the best Indian takeaway in the borders. Everything they do is extremely tasty and fresh for a reasonable price. If you are traveling far from England or a tourist definitely try this place as it will fill any hole in your stomach. 10/10
