Taste of Raj in East Hertfordshire

Quality food as always! Piping hot and delicious 👌🏼

We have regularly visited the Taste of Raj for many years. It is usually very consistent with its service level & quality of food. However, on this occasion, they let themselves down. My party waited nearly an hour for our order to arrive despite the restaurant being under half capacity. The food was only 'ok'. Two nan breads ordered were small & very thin! Hopefully, this was a not to be repeated event.

Takeaway 2nd time and it’s still below average watered down, weak sweet and sour prawn dansak prawns weren’t even cooked properly awful and butter chicken very bland too much cream and lacked good flavour preswari naan was just a plain man with coconut sprinkle over the top awful never again waste of effort and money!

Food was clean tasting but was not much meat in main dish. Was not much taste to mains sauce either not to make you think wow that was lovely. I only like mild to low heat dishes so might be different in the higher heat range.

Had a 7:30 table booking. When we arrived it was so busy they couldn’t seat us. So we agreed to go next door for a drink and come back in half hour. Arrived back at 8, seated 5 minutes later. We had a drink but at 9:30 still no sign of our food. At this point it was past the point of reasonable so we left!

Food took 2 hours to arrive and finely when it did turn up it was cold. Cold rice, cold starter. Only thing that was warm was the curry. Absolutely gutted

The food here was absolutely fantastic! The service was excellent, and our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the meal. This was my 9 year olds first Indian restaurant experience and he tried as many different foods as he could and couldn't get enough of it. Thanks for a great evening meal.😀

One of the best Indians I've had. I recommend the Khybery Chicken, the flavour, texture and spice level is spot on! The service is always brilliant even though it's usually very busy (recommend you book). I've eaten in and ordered takeaway from here. Definitely eat in if you can to get the best experience and flavour. Looking forward to our next visit

The food was freezing cold needed to put it in the microwave, I didn’t want to be doing this at 1200 on New Year’s Eve

Food was lovely- a bit cold as the driver went to my sons house in the village but I warmed it through and it was delicious. Would definitely order again.

Only had a takeaway from this place, so it's based on that experience, it was below average in my opinion. To start with, most of it had spilt everywhere when it arrived, luke warm, the vegetable curry was bland and watery, worst nan bread I've had, it was pitiful, looks like they got a job lot from Tescos. The biryani was ok, saved them from getting one star.

Had a takeaway from this restaraunt and really nice food, Authentic chicken tikka masala cooked to a madras heat as I bespoke asked for a bit hotter, very fresh and lots of nice fragrant spices. Thankyou for a lovely curry, And nan bread was great.

It was a lovely evening had a great laugh with friends but unfortunately it was ruined it really was bang average food and awful service with deliveries and takeaways being main priority we waited 55 minutes for food

Order arrived 50 minutes late and most of it wasn’t warm..

Food seemed to be very nice, sadly arriving an hour late meant its difficult to say for sure (naans were soden). Staff apologetic over a busy Saturday but really a delivery estimate should reflect this before we decide where to order.

Friday Evening meal with family - pre booked' Very popular restaurant with patrons travelling from afar. Staff were friendly & professional, foodwas well cooked and presented. Lots of repeat customers Would recommend and will return

This is the first time in 10 years we have ordered from this restaurant and it was just as lovely as it was when we lived in stanstead abbots. Big portions and really hot and delicious. Thankyou so much. We will be definitely ordering again.

Food was very good but staff where unfriendly and the whole place needs refurbished and toilets very poor Parking is a problem as you drive between two walls only just got my car through and it’s a small car no wheelchairs as you need to go up a couple of stairs to the toilet

Had dinner there on Sunday party of 6 I have given this 3 as the food was very good but the staff did not make you feel welcome and was miserable not at all helpful when choosing the meal . This also needs a refurbishment inside and out very tired and as for the the toilets a complete refurbishment. We visit Indian restaurants every 4 weeks trying all different restaurants and have visited around 20 in and around this area but would not recommend this one until it is updated.

Amazing food as usual. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Driver sat outside the address for 15 mins before coming to the door. Several things were missed of our order, and when we called up, these things were then resent our, however, when the driver arrived with the replacements, he then proceeded to press the intercom button continuously, meaning we could not buzz him in as the button was not released, also causing significant disturbance to the building as my partner had to discuss with him why this was not appropriate and the driver was simply not interested. It’s all a shame because the food is always great, the variety is great, and we order from here often. However, will have to rethink this, as the intercom situation happens every single time we order and it becomes very frustrating and when we explain we can’t let you in while doing that, we are met with dismissal and a non chalant attitude

No doubt this is quality food….chicken bhuna was under-spiced tho no chilli at all….Great Indian tho!

I’ve come here before but haven’t visited for a couple of years, seems to really be going downhill. The staff were miserable and ordering in the restaurant from a takeaway menu was a new one. The food was all really oily and bland. None of it was fresh. The chutneys were kept on a shelf not in fridges and when we were done with ours they just put it back, I assume to give to the next customers. Such a shame.

I had a great dinner at this rasturant yesterday , they got very nice & cool environment with friendly customer services, food was really tasty specially they have a chef special dish called Raj special tawa which i tryed was delicious.

Excellent service. On time & great food. Forgot something & they included it after a quick call. Over & above service. Would recommend.

The food was very disappointing it was tasteless, the quantities were really small . the biryani was served on a flat plate and the rice just covered the plate there were abour four pieces of chicken that were dry an tasteless. The rice was cooked with no salt! This was not a biryani where are the fried onions and the dried fruits. The prawn puri was not cooked enough and the prawns had no taste as it was cooked with no spices tomatoes or onions. The lamb in the dansak was tough....... All this was expensive as well.

Great food every time. Lovely, friendly staff. I have never eaten in, but takeaway has been great. Collected one time - seems they cook the order once you arrive. Was waiting for about 15/20 mins but at least I knew the food was fresh!

As usual, amazing food! This restaurant remains the best in the area for curry!

Food turned up early which wasn't what we wanted. The Butter Chicken and the Malay were really sloppy and watery, it was like they gave us yesterday's curry, reheated it and added gone off cream to it. Won't be ordering from here again

We booked the Kurzi Lamb between 5 of us and it was magnificent. Really good sauce on the meat where you could really taste the individual spices. With your choice of rice & veg, and another great but quite hot sauce.... It is listed as for four, they need to be hungry people as there's a lot of meat on a leg of lamb. We had this many years ago and it's just as good today.

Great. Just what you want from an Indian. If you are not sure what to have, ask for a recommendation, they will even knock you up a taster of the sauce if you ask nicely. It does get busy and a little loud on occasion but the staff are happy to help. Very tasty with severe danger of overeating. Enjoy

The food was always excellent up to this weeks takeaway. Watered down madras sauce, tough chicken and chutneys were also diluted. Popadoms unfortunately tasted stale and not crispy. Such a shame!!

Justeat eat mucked up my delivery option but taste of Raj went beyond and delivered it and with the most helpful attitude, not making me feel like it was a problem at any point. Thank you for your great service. The curry as usual was yummy and I'm still stuffed! (That's coming from a Bradford uni alumni where curry at omars means I have been spoilt somewhat on what I agree to being a good curry) ☺️

I had tandoori chicken takeaway and it was beautiful, so i returned the next evening. Lots of chicken rice and salad. At a great price.

As ever an excellent experience with our favourite Indian restaurant. We have been coming to the Taste of Raj for over 30 years and experienced the same continuous service and welcome from the family. Long may it all continue.

Getting the good out of the way, the delivery was earlier than expected. For the bad, the naan was burnt on the sides which meant it tasted like charcoal. Usually when you order a starter you would expect the condiments to go alongside them (pots of sauce and salad, maybe a couple popadoms) but no, nothing from this restaurant. The main... Well as soon as I opened the lid it did not smell or look like any Tikka masala I've ever had before. The texture was closer to water than a traditional masala. The colour was a pale orange, you'd usually expect a rich red sauce for a masala. The taste of it was poor, honestly the rice had more flavour. Extremely disappointed. Will not order again from here.

I was really disappointed when I arrived and no one knew about my order, had to wait 10 minutes before someone confirmed and then wanted proof of order. I live 7 minutes away so there is no reason as to why the food should be cold. The korma was like water, and a few bits of wet chicken. The masala was exactly the same, the mushroom rice was wet and had 0 flavour. The cheese naan might as-well have been a plain naan, I couldn’t find one bit of cheese in it at all. The only good part was the samosas and the plain rice , the sag aloo was cold and very soggy. Overall a very bad meal and I would like a refund of the meal due to the fact that we have thrown half of it away.

I’m gutted to say it was absolutely horrible! The delivery took longer than stated, the food was stone cold and the chicken tikka masala was like water. I tried all evening to call them and the phone just rings. I hate complaining and understand the odd bad meal, but this was without doubt, the worst takeaway I’ve ever had

First time we ordered here, food was delivered well within time, driver very polite, good quality and tasty.

Even when the train line barriers were closed for repair.. they still delivered to me ON TIME!! Top bunch at “Taste 👅 of Raj’s!! “

This is THE only Indian restaurant we will go to. We've been eating here for 20+ years and it never fails to impress. It's also a favourite for our eldest and his friends, when they go out. The staff are welcoming , food is fantastic, portions are great - it's simply THE best !!

The Chicken Tikka Misala did not taste very nice. They’re wasn’t flavour and it tasted really bland. Everything else was fine but was really disappointed with the Misala

Usually exceptional food from the Raj. Today good not to the usual standard. Dishes were bland & sauce watery. Will still order again in the future as hopefully a one off
