Excellent food, excellent staff and excellent service! Everything we have tried has been brilliant. Can't praise this restaurant enough!

Lovely food with excellent service.

Went for the Thursday special menu which was delicious! Service was very good and the restaurant was nice. We didn't realise (maybe let people know when they book) that the restaurant doesn't have a license so although you can bring your own alcohol, you can't buy it there. Not a show stopper for us but the soft drinks were quite expensive we thought. I'll definitely be back, next time with a few of my own beers!

We dined here for the first time this evening, and will definitely be returning. Lovely food at a reasonable price with a good service to match. Recommended 🙂

I’ve visited taste of India many times over the years and always have great experiences here. The food is brilliant and made to your taste. The staff are always polite and friendly and even remembers our order even though we haven’t been for a while! Can’t recommend them enough.

We visited late but the staff were really accommodating. Fabulous food and good service. Bring your own beer which I prefer as I'm not that bothered for Kingfisher!🤣

We recently rang fir a takeaway the lady on the phone was very polite and courteous. On placing our order they said it would be half an hour which was fine. When I arrived was was warmly greeted and asked to take a seat as they were just completing our order. The food was lovely nice heat to it nice chicken and we had a selection of starters all well cooked and a great price will visit for a sit in meal

Group of us booked in for a meal, staff originally didn’t seem to know we’d booked, even though the place was empty. Food was good and served in a timely manner, prices were also very reasonable. The cleanliness of this place lets it down, it definitely needs a spruce up inside and staff need to communicate better.

Never sat in, but takeaways are always great from here.

Tried a takeaway from here last night for the first time. Absolutely awful. Dry chicken tandoori, very dry shish kebab, which didn't taste like any shish kebab I've ever had. Ordered the meat thalia for 2 people and at nearly £13 each only had 1 mouthful of the 4 dishes each as the portion size for 2 was naff all. Absolutely a total waste of money. Safe to say, will not bother again.

We ordered a take away meal. The vegetarian one was fine but the Tandoori King Prawn Masala was mainly sauce and few prawns. We don’t live far away and both dishes were collected on time but lukewarm on arriving home. The chapatis were ok. Haven’t had a meal at the restaurant for a while and usually good but will give it a miss in future following this disappointing take away.

Excellent staff and excellent food

Have not been here for a few years and decided to give it another go and take advantage of the special fixed menu on Thursday which is £11.50 for 2 courses plus sundries and coffee. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and made the visit on excellent experience. The food choice is great and all dishes were very tasty and well presented. An added bonus is that it is now BYO alcohol so you are only paying for the food. We were that impressed that we rebooked for the following week!

We had a lovely time and the food and service was excellent. We decided to try their set menu evening. The choices were pretty good with a good mix of traditional dishes so would say something for everyone. The only draw back was the lack of parking.

Wow food here is absolutely amazing. Been twice now because it's that nice. Not really sat in but have collected. Staff seem really friendly and if you were to sit in it looks very clean and tidy. Food prices for quantity I feel is a little high. So in my opinion the food should be cheaper for the quantity or more food for the same price as portion sizes are farely small. Not sure if this is the case when eating inside but shouldn't be regardless. Would recommend and would eat again but would look for alternatives with same food quality with better quantity.

Lovely midweek treat here. The dishes were all fresh and very flavourful. The nan bread was beautiful. We were very surprised that a full meal for 2 with starters and 2 drinks was only £43! We will definitely be going back. The only slight negatives is that is was a little cold (but it was -1 outside and we were sat next to the window) and they aren't serving alcohol so you need to take your own.

Visited with families and had a cracking meal, beautiful food, excellent service and great value for money. We were nearly put off with the being your own alcohol if you want, but don’t be!! Took a bottle of wine and didn’t mind at all. Proper authentic Indian restaurant well done to the restaurant.

Have been eating at this restaurant on and off almost 30 years. Ate here last night after an absence of 18 months and was blown away. The service has always been super friendly and efficient and the curry good, but last night the food was incredible, turns out they have a new young chef. All 3 of our curries were superb, simply the best Indian we have eaten in years and now they have stopped serving alcohol so allow you to bring your own, making a very reasonably priced curry house fabulous value!

Well top food and top staff as to be one of the best in South Yorkshire we go all the time and will never go know where else

Outstanding meal. Not too greasy, had vegetarian options and veg tasted fresh. Lovely flavors. So much better than most other local Indian takeaways and restaurants. Highly recommended and our new first choice go to takeaway for Indian food.

Not authentic Indian food very bland I ordered lamb spinach balti hardly any taste of spices to tomato base with sugar. Onions not been browned and a lack of cooked masalas. Had better microwave meals

We enjoy visiting this authentic restaurant. The food is excellent, the service very good and ambiance lovely.Highly recommended.

Called as a family catch up last night. Extremely disappointed. Don’t know where to start? Place looks like a morgue and was cold and dreary. Staff looked fed up and we weren’t made welcome. We ate with our coats on. Lager expensive and dreadful. Saw them serving cider from a giant plastic bottle probably from Tesco. Ordered 5 totally different main dishes but when they arrived they all had the same colour, flavour and all tasted of salty curry paste! Mains all served in cheap plastic dishes reminiscent of the 70’s era. Chicken was ok but scarce in quantity. The naans came in worn plastic baskets like my Nan kept her clothes pegs in! We were all convinced the main dishes had been thrown together using jars of paste and upon leaving two of us saw the large jars of paste stacked on the kitchen shelf!

This is our local Indian restaurant . We have always had good meals here but the last time we went ,my meal was cold and so it put us off from going .. however we went 3 weeks ago on a Saturday.. the meal was excellent and the service very good.. couldn’t fault it

Visited as a couple on a Saturday early evening. We did not have a booking and when asking if they had a table available, one staff just simply said 'no', but a head gesture from a colleague overturned his decision and they kindly allowed us to have a table. Awkward start, but we was grateful as we were expecting to be turned away. The waiter who initially said reluctantly directed us to our table and took our drinks order. A another member of staff took our food order shortly after. Service in this respect was good and quick. The same waiter seemed to have a negative attitude with other customers it seemed and just seemed a bit miserable. Our food came out in a reasonable time. One curry (Chicken Makhon) came out with a skin on top, similar to a tomato soup. I'm well aware that microwaves are used in kitchens and/or sat under a hotplate for some time maybe, but at least give it a stir first. The dish was supposed to have sultanas, we found one, hoorah. Our other dish was a lamb korahi. Was quite tasteless. The lamb fell apart like wet tissue and the sauce just had no decent flavour or fragrance. This being said, the peshwari naan was good and fresh. Just would have been nice to have a better quality Curry to accompany it. When we asked for the bill from the moody waiter, we waited for an age and it never came. We appreciated that they was starting to get busy and may have forgot so we went up to bar to pay. No pleasantries from this waiter, just tapped a bill in front of me, took the money, gave the change and carried on. Wouldn't be in a rush to return.

Service was excellent and friendly. However my curry was very salty... Not enough to spoil the meal hence the 4 stars. Around £25 per head and no pudding/sweet course on offer.

On arriving in to the restaurant we knew straight away it wasn't going to be the best experience. We didn't get much of a welcome and no one smiled. we were sat in the reception side of the restaurant for our meal, whilst was nice not to be sat right next to somebody, we were completed isolated from the rest of the customers. Food when arrived was not bad. Starters of Puri and onion bahjis were good. Whist the main meal was tasty the rice was of a terrible quality- it tasted like ping and ding rice (which is fine at home for a quick snack, but not in a restaurant. Finally raw draught lager of Kingfisher was dreadfully flat and wasn't nice at all. All in all, an average place to go for a curry, after say, a drunken night but certainly not for those who like a excellent meal and a great atmosphere.

Been going here for 20 years, still the best curry in South Yorkshire, if not the world! The chicken tikka sylheti, chicken tikka chilli masala are particularly good. Great staff, really friendly and a great place to eat in or take away

Not too busy on a Tuesday evening. Service very good and the food just as good. My friend likes a hot curry and staff recommended and explained a few dishes before she made her choice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Went for the Thursday night special offer. The vegetable pakoras were fantastic and my partner loved his lamb curry sylheti and said it was best curry he's had!!!!

We have gone to this restaurant for many years and firstly may I say the food is excellent and of a high quality. Sadly despite been open till eleven if you go after nine they rush you and throw you out by ten and make lame excuses. It really is a shame as the food is great and when Dean is there all is fine. Just don't go after nine .

Take away. Madras & Ceylon. Very average (both bland). Disappointing!

I've been having takeaways here for a while now, the food is great and the staff are polite and always give you a great time for pickup, it's always ready to collect when you get there, I travel a few miles for this because I'm that impressed.

I usually get a moan from my partner for taking too long to choose as I have had some excellent meals here.. I think I know what I want then see waiters bringing out meals for other tables and say “ Oh that’s looks nice and change my mind .

Tried this place out lastnight for the first time with the missus and we was both very impressed! The Food was absolutely smashing! Very very nice. & great staff too. Will definatley be returning shortly. Highly recomended !

Brilliant curries, just enough heat.

Came on Thursday to take advantage of the 3 Couse meal for £9.95 and were not disappointed. Good range of choices and fast efficient service, the food was tasty and to our liking and at that price great value for money.

This has been a favourite of our family for years. Very disappointed last night to learn that there was nothing served after our main meal, not even a plain ice cream. No coffee was offered and when asked they pretended not to understand. Bill was quickly given to us before asked for. Then we realised we were being rushed through to make room for others. They've lost our custom.

Been going to the Taste of India since I was a child and it never disappoints. Now moved away but any return to Penistone means a visit to the Taste of India where the food is amazing! The staff are lovely and I'm yet to find another Indian restaurant where the experience is as good.

Just moved to Penistone and ordered take away think we have found a gem food was great and tasty ready in no time will definitely be going back.

We came to this restaurant whilst visiting friends who had recently moved to Penistone. After being very disappointed and walking out of the Italian Restaurant T’iamo opposite, Taste of India Tandoori has redeemed my husbands birthday.

So many Indian food in Barnsley but we can say its lovely one, very lovely place with delicious Indian food, the location in Penistone again its lovely area. Very good services and friendly staff, well will be back here for have some lovely food.

Me and my husband have had eaten here many times and had many takeaways from here. The food is always amazing and the staff are very friendly and polite.

First visit to Taste of India. The staff are lovely, very friendly and attentive and the service was prompt. The food was ok, nothing special unfortunately but it was very reasonable at about £15 per head.

Mientras que en la zona utilizamos este restaurante para una comida para llevar para 6 adultos y 2 niños. La comida era precioso y el personal muy agradable. Nos gustó tanto que fuimos de nuevo durante la semana, pero esta vez para 8 adultos y 2 niños. La noche estaba muy ocupado por el restaurante con diners y takeouts pero el servicio fue excelente con el mínimo retraso y el orden, a pesar de ser grande, estaba todo hecho correctamente. El único inconveniente es que no entregar y el aparcamiento es limitado (hay un aparcamiento en el lado del pub), pero este frente no es reflejo de su comida que nos pareció delicioso.

Mi marido y yo hemos estado viniendo aquí desde mi marido finalmente llegó a su sentidos y descubrí que la comida india es la mejor cosa desde el pan en rebanadas. La primera vez que estuvimos con un grupo de personas y luego una pareja. Más tarde nos llevamos a lo largo de nuestro nieto de 5 años muy a menudo. Ahora es 22. La comida aquí es maravilloso. Es bien presentada y deliciosos sabores. Después de pasar por el menú que probablemente estamos siendo aburrido y principalmente a nuestros platos favoritos stick ahora. El personal es encantador y amable y te hacen sentir valorado y charlar si no están ocupados. Esta semana tuve las alas de arranque y mi marido pollo tandoori, el pollo tikka. Para el plato principal que teníamos pollo Tikka, cordero tikka masala de Madrás, vegetales y un arroz pilau naan de ajo con 2 pequeños kingfisher lagers. Todo era de menos de 30 libras, una gran relación calidad-precio y delicioso.

Food was standard quality, nothing great but nothing bad. The things that let it down the most was the cleanliness of the place. The glass I got was dirty on the side, as was the table cover and they had only opened 15mins earlier.

You will never go wrong with a curry from here, they guys can customise it your own tastes and preferences. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

Me and my partner visited here after a visit to the cinema, arriving at just before 10pm and were a little unsettled by the only other people in there leaving as we arrived. We did feel a little rushed to finish however the staff were still polite/friendly. As mentioned in other reviews, the interior could do with an overhaul and a new carpet would work a treat! However, despite this, the food was nice and I'd say good value for money so we would go back.

We don't go for a curry often but my father in law was visiting and that's what we fancied. Usually go to the dilraj but fancied a change. So we(I) decided to go because there's a tropical fish tank in the restaurant. (Bit random but if you're of a certain age you will have grown up with Indian restaurants all having fish tanks and I needed to make a choice somehow)Anyway, we loved it. Food was good, tasted v fresh and spicy for those who wanted, service was fab and it was all very reasonable. Lager was draft and good and wine was good enough for me to put away a couple of large white. At least £20 cheaper than other places.....The decor is a bit dated- but I like that- and it was quite quiet so if you're looking for a party night maybe not here- though sure they cater to bigger groups- but I have had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. So thank you. We will be back when the mood for a curry takes and would certainly recommend to folk in the area. Big thumbs up.

Food was ok and we all enjoyed our meals. The menus needed updating as they no longer stocked half the things and were very well worn. However the main thing was the lack of cleanliness. We were first ones in on an evening and our table cloth was dirty with wet curry sauce and food bits on floor

Called in on the way back from a day golfing, pleased to see draught Kingfisher on sale, the staff were welcoming and pleasant. This is a small restaurant but not overcrowded with tables so it's comfortable, washroom a bit on the small side but antibacterial handwash and hot water.As a visitor to India I was impressed buy the regional variation of dishes on the menu the portions are good and the House Specials include pilau rice therefore good value.I will call again when in the area to sample some more of the dishes on the menu.

I have to say the hygiene of this restaurant has been the main reason why I have not visited before. I'm pretty certain it was a 3* on the hygiene factor, albeit when we visited Sat night, I was looking for the sign and I could not find it. So why did we go? Being honest we were invited by friends, and it does seem to be always busy. So, after a few beers we arrived just after 9.30. There were a few people in, but not overly busy. The menu is pretty extensive and to be fair, so much more than the Cineaman Spice, the other Indian in town. We decided to have poppadoms and pickle tray for starters, followed by mains, rice, chips and nan breads. They also do Kingfisher on draft. Service was spot on. I have to say we were all delighted with the food, no complaints at all. The pickle tray was brilliant in that there was lots of pickle! Including lime pickle. The only minor concern we had is that what we consider to be milder dishes, were in fact a tad hot. Mine to the point where I was sweating! Definitely worth another visit.

We've been here twice and have been impressed on both occasions with the quality of the food and the standard of service. Thoroughly recommend it to anybody looking for an authentic traditional Indian restaurant

We visit regularly and they also offer a take away service, which we also use. It's a lovely atmosphere and the management and staff can't do enough for you, even if you're just popping in to collect a take away. Thursday night is specials night, so best to book. It tends to get busy late at night when people leave the pubs, but there's always a friendly atmosphere. Good, local, traditional Indian restaurant.

The food here is great, both takeaway and eat in. It's sometimes a little oily. I'd still eat here over any other Indian in the area.

This is a small restaurant with a very good menu. We went for a family meal with the grandchildren. The service and food were first class. Excellent value for money
