Taste @ Leicester College in Leicester

Invited to the annual Leicester College Stakeholders dinner and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The waiting staff were friendly, effective and make everyone welcome. The food was simply outstanding, cooked to perfection and flavoursome. A real credit to the students and staff. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Eight of us visited The Taste Restaurant & had an amazing time. The table was beautiful. We were looked after so well by all the students who were courteous & polite. There was such a good choice on the menu & each course was delicious and well presented , All of us thought it was brilliant night . Thankyou

Khyber Test Leicester is one of the best place for food, specially big Chapli Kebabs! I have to say the best place to enjoy the Test of real DAISI foods. Reasonable prices as compare to other takeaways and restaurants.

Six of us visited tonight again for dinner and it was once again absolutely fantastic it's really a top class dining experience in every way the all of the waiting staff and Charlie the bar waiter are just so professional and attentive if I could give them more than 5 Stars I would do thank you you and well done see you next Thursday Also big thanks to the manager you always makes everyone feel welcome

We were absolutely blown away by the food. Going in we had high hopes, but they truly went above and beyond. Every single course was perfectly crafted as a taste experience, with all the flavours complementing each other. The wine pairing was delicious and really accentuated the dishes. The staff were all so lovely and helpful, we definitely will be visiting again. A big thank you to Mia our waitress and to all of the kitchen staff for such a perfect evening. If it is ever on the menu again, the duck config hash with duck egg yolk ravioli might be the most special thing I've ever eaten. As you cut open the ravioli the yolk burst and coated the duck hash underneath. The pork wellington was also surrounded by black pudding, and it was the nicest black pudding I've ever tasted!

An excellent experience. The students were attentive and the service was good. The food was plentiful and very tasty. While the service was a little slow the overall experience was still very good. Real value for money, so we'll be back.

Attended a burnes night event all went well food was excellent apart from the portion of haggis which was mostly pastry and the smallest piece ever had the veal for main which was excellent followed by the cheese board potion well done .

Went there this evening with a large group of friends. Had an excellent Christmas dinner. Food was first class. Staff were extremely efficient and very friendly.

Went there with my friend today for lunch on 9th October 2019. The service was excellent, very attentive staff, the flavours were exquisite and the desserts were to die for. If you have never tried it then please do as you do not know what you are missing

Went thereThursday night. Food was fantastic. It was Greek food. It took me back to my many holidays in Greece. If was a 3 course meal with a co ktail on arrival. Jack our waiter was first class. He was very friendly and efficient. It was an exam night for at least one of the the students and the deserved to get full Mark's for serving a first class meal.

Had a fantastic evening . There was a special Greek theme to the evening. Cocktails. One called Persephone's Potion. Pomegranate cranberry mint and lime. Lovely! All the food was specifically designed for the evening. Greek salad and Gyros! Took me back to our holidays in Greece. The lovely waitress called Alana was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent! Greek music playing in the background. Overall a 5 star experience. Well done to the students both serving and in the kitchen.

We booked a lunchtime meal for four adults. The food was lovely and the service very good. I understand that the students have to complete all aspects of catering and are being trained to a very high standard.It is fine dining, very reasonably priced and would thoroughly recommend a visit.

We visited taste restaurant last night and had an amazing 3 course meal for just £18 each. Great selection, tasty food, great value for money. The service from the trainee staff was excellent. Really impressed and well worth a visit!

After someone told us how good food was here, we booked a table for a small birthday party,Well we certainly wasn't disappointed Table looked beautiful,It is waitress service (all students) But wow they are trained to the highest level, Food was served , Absolutly delicious, fresh veg. And waitress very attentive asking if we had enough of everything,after. first serving she came round with table brush to remove any bits on the table. We had three courses and coffee, Couldnt have had better food or service if we ate at a top restaurant. Well Done to all work there.

Lunch for 2 November 1st - over the years have ate in many restaurants both home and overseas - and therefore unsure of what to expect - pleasantly surprised as we found the food was lovely - bread was homemade- texture good and very tasty - smoked mackerel starter ok - the waldorf salad (could have had a few more walnuts/ingredients) - mains pork cutlet - very good , salmon with crushed potatoes - was very well presented and cooked well- the accompanying vegetables were again well cooked and presented - puddings - steamed pudding good and the pannacotta/strawberries was absolutely superb and presentation exceptional - all in all very professional - (and remember that all the food is prepared by students) can't wait to visit again - highly recommended - it was nice to chat to the students and discover where they were in the course - wine good and reasonable - well done students and staff

Visited Taste Restaurant last night with a party of approx 20 people. I have a food allergy and phoned ahead to tell them and pre order. On arrival I advised them again of my allergy and was told it was on in hand. However when the 1st course arrived the garnish had some of the food I was unable to eat on the side of my plate. When I told the waiter he seemed not to be concerned. However the food I did eat was very good and the hand made chocolates at the end were delicious.

We attended the Showcase Dinner last night. What a wonderful evening we had. The whole experience was brilliant. Pre dinner drinks and goats cheese lollipops! The standard of the food and service was 5 star. Can't believe that the students can produce such lovely dishes. Well done to you all. Can't wait to come back next term.

I never knew about this place until I had an invite to a Gala dinner as a civic dignitary. Usually the food is poor but this was totally different, Quality, presentation and service wee all excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone for any occasion or just for food.

Having been many times here to Taste restaurant the food again last night was absolutely beautiful as always,Beth our waitress was very very good and confident serving us.

A christmas lunch with work. Was not sure what to expect but the menu choices were good and they were very accommodating. The food and service was excellent and despite being busy they did a great job. I am not a huge fan of traditional Christmas lunch but this was the tastiest I have ever had. Will be going back

The college is a bit grim and difficult to navigate and the restaurant definitely needs an upgrade. But you cannot moan at the quality of food and service. The young learners do a excellent job and if the restaurant was in a better location it would be very successful.

Christmas lunch with group. Menu choices made in advance and guests allocated to tables of 9. We had to move tables to accommodate one of our party in a wheelchair with his carers. This caused the waitress confusion when she checked our table's choices against her list which took her three attempts to sort out. Her manner didn't seem as professional as it could have been while doing this and she got flustered. As the restaurant is run by the students this can be improved with experience. Service was rather slow but each person's meal arrived more or less together. The food was excellent with good size portions. Tables were beautifully set. 3 courses plus coffee and truffles for £17.50 is excellent value. The student chefs came round to ask if we enjoyed our meal. This was our 3rd or 4th visit and it is always a pleasant experience with good food.

We attended a charity black tie event for a local charity (Prostaid) with friends. The meal was beautifully prepared and served by 3rd year NVQ level 2 students. They were a credit to the college and themselves. The menu was good catering for vegetarians and gluten free diets. The cod was beautifully cooked and the trio of chocolate sweets a joy. An excellent evening that showed off their talents and raised money for charity.

A party of 4 of us had lunch yesterday at Taste. The service was excellent. The young server was even able to tell us how he had folded the napkins into a Bishop's Mitre. The wine server, although clearly on his first day at Table, knew how to present a bottle and how to pour properly.The food was extremely well cooked and presented, and would put many a professional kitchen to shame. The mussels were so beautifully cooked, I could have eaten twice as many.Our main courses of sea bream, chicken chasseur and lamb were plentiful and all of us really enjoyed themThe selection of desserts was varied and again well cooked and presented.The lunch was incredibly good value at only £9 for 3 courses and coffee.The students are a credit to the College.Will definitely be back - maybe even go for Dinner as well.

Great food, friendly service. Very reasonable for the quality of the food and number of courses. Highly recommend and good to give the college students an opportunity to develop

I would just like to thank Nicky and her excellent team on looking after us so well last night for our group Xmas Dinner. Everything went smoothly, from the booking process and menu selection in October ready for the evening. All of our group really enjoyed the evening, and we did have some picky eaters ;-). Your staff were all smart, friendly, attentive, and very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The food was very well presented, served quickly and was delicious.I sadly recently experienced some very bad service during another group Xmas dinner at a bar in the city centre, and as a group organiser was so worried, but needn't have worried as Nicky made sure that we were well looked after. I wish you all a very Happy Xmas and New year and we'll definitely come again in 2016.

First time in taste in a normal lunch service (been for Christmas a couple of times) and it was absolutely lovely food, a real bargain for the price paid.My main, the risotto, was cooked to perfection and so lovely to see such high standards maintained and such attentive service.Will certainly be booking in more often!

We revisited this restaurant on its opening night of the college year. We didn't expect much and the prices was reduced. However this exceeded our expectations. Our waiter was nervous to start with but he soon relaxed and we were joking with him. Starters were a little odd, personally I just think it was personal taste. Both our mains were amazing and puddings again exceptional. This place puts most leicester food establishments to shame! Can not wait for our next visit later this month.

This is fast becoming one of our favourite dining venues where else can you have a 3 course fine dining dinner menu for under £9!!!! .The service is excellent you are never left waiting too long between courses and the food is of the highest quality in taste and presentation.Menu choice is good with four choices per course.This restaurant is a must.

Went to the Taste Restaurant today and chose a sea-bait starter. There were several in a small pot and a smaller pot of mayonnaise with a wedge of lemon. As I was eating I'm getting a very, very strong taste of fish in my mouth which I certainly wasn't enjoying so I didn't finish the rest of the dish. The main meal was lovely and the sweet, but on returning home I started to belch and this strong taste of fish was repeating in my throat and mouth. I felt unwell when I got home and ended up projectile vomiting. That will be the first and the last time I have sea-bait. Apart from that it was a nice place to dine with very helpful and friendly staff. This is the second time I have been to the Taste Restuarant and it won't put me off another visit as it certainly has a nice ambiance with round tables which is far better when there are 5 of you talking at a table. Just a shame the sea-bait was off!

We attended the college for a meal last month. The food was some of the best I have ever had and at such a reasonable price. The staff were all great! I only wish that they were not fully booked for the rest of the term so that we could go back.

Second visit to try the second menu . Soft shelled crab to start served with pickled melon, a really enjoyable taste experience. We had 4 mains , Corn fed chicken breast, venison, Halibut and Steak Diane (cooked at the table) all were excellent. All the dishes were very well presented and tasted amazing . Finished off with an assiete of Desserts.The restaurant was noticeably busier this time around....I suspect word is spreading . 4 , 3 course meals , 3 bottles of wine , 3 liquer coffees and a cocktail - £120 - AMAZING VALUE . Service was once again top notch . Well done Leicester College , these students understand customer service and did the College proud

Our second visit to Taste and as usual standard of service and quality of food is top quality.The students must be proud of what they have achieved.The 3 course lunch menu has three very different choices for each course,my partner had crepes made table side by Megan.Special mentions to Megan,Kerrie & Nataleya who looked after us.We have booked for our 3rd visit.

There is a waiting list for Dinner at Taste , I booked up in November and eventually sat down Mid January.Taste is located in Leicester College and is used for the practical training of Chefs and Front of House Staff . It supplies a fine dining experience. All dishes were presented beautifully. We had Twice baked Stilton soufflé' which tasted amazing but lacked the height I was expecting . I had Crab mille-feuille, witth pea sorbet,. I loved this dish despite the shock of the Sorbet which gave an interesting taste experience.For mains we chose Pork cooked 3 ways and fillet of Sea Bream. Fine dining , as always , is light on Carbs so the wife ate half of my bacon bubble and squeak. The only query with the pork dish was the dryness of the Pork Faggot, I was expecting a much softer consistency . All other elements of both dishes were excellent.For dessert we chose a trio of chocolate creations and a Crepe Suzette , cooked at table......both excellentDrinks wise we had a Mojhito, a glass of white wine , a bottle of really excellent Cava and a liquer coffee to finish.Service was seamless and top class, food served from the correct side propercutlery provided and changed when necessary (fish course). This is a 'pop up' restaurant for 2 days a week and is in a function room, having said that , the ambience was very good . I would have liked to have seen all tables with white tablecloths but that is a small complaint .All in all a fine dining experience and the total cost .....£55 inc drinks. There WERE a few blips , but when reviewing a restaurant I combine ambience , service , food and finally price . Without doubt , this is an excellent experience . If it had more reviews , it would be much higher up the tripadvisor rankings .......now I wonder why it is booked up 2 months in advance but gets so few ratings?Here is a hint , the people who know this restaurant don't want it to get too succesful! It would mean a wait of three months for a reservation!!. They are taking bookings for Christrmas NOW!, any place that can offer bookings for 11 months time and be getting them with a smile has to be first class.At the end of our first course I immediately booked a table for the second of their menu's , I managed to get the 12th March. I am probably now on a hit list from the regulars of this restaurant for giving away Leicesters best kept secret! Please try it

Service, standards and professionalism matches and exceeds that of top restaurants locally. Really impressed with the students in the kitchen, front of house and service.

We went for three course luncheon with coffee for just £8.50.The service was at a standard you would find at a top class restaurant,the food was cooked and presented beautifully and although the restaurant was full service was nicely paced with no long wait between courses.It is all the amazing that these are students and not time served chefs producing such high standards of cuisine

Brother in law booked and just mentioned that it was his parents wedding anniversary. When we, five of us, arrived we were ushered to our table which had been decorated with balloons. Served by Kerrie, we had a 2006 Rioja followed by each of us having a different starter, which were not only works of art but also tasted great. We all ordered the steak from medium rare through to medium/well done. These were also excellent and arrived exactly as ordered for each of us. Suddenly a chocolate cake appeared with candles for the anniversary couple. We met Ramzan our steak chef and congratulated him .An excellent evening and definitely worth a revisit the next time I am in the UK

I ate here as my partner works for Leicester College and wanted to support the staff and students who run the restaurant.The three course meal we had was exceptional quality and superb value for money.The waiting staff were attentive but not overly so. The food was outstanding with all three courses cooked to perfection.They even had a good, reasonably priced wine list.I will definately eat here again it was excellent value and it's good to see the enthusiasm of the students and staff

A little known gem , excellent food and service by the trainees. Professionally trained by dedicated leaders who set the work ethic example.Local restaurants should visit to see how they could improve their business!

Eaten at Marco Pierre White's when he was the chef. Can honestly say we've never eaten better than last night. Made my wife a lovely birthday cake which was enough for 8 and it cost £10. The ingredients are beautiful and the staff are brilliant. The ambience is fine and you have plenty of space. A delicious bottle of wine for £13 rounded off the meal. My second time here but it won't be the last.

Went for the lunch menu. Wonderful choice of food that was cooked perfect and the tastes were amazing. All students waiting on Tables were very polite and helpful. All round great time at an amazing price. Will certainly be back.

Had a set evening meal for three - No complaints re the food or service. I had the belly pork with braised red cabbage as a main - could not fault. Have to say it is now the restaurant that all others are judged by!One has to be aware that it is a training college and the students can be a little awkward serving at tables, lacking in confidence and learning, but they do try!However on this visit all was fine and professional.The almost? well hubby would have liked a pint of cask ale which is not available - but life's not perfect is it?

First time to this restaurant with 12 friends and what a surprise! A bit odd to get to as it is in the college buildings but once at the door you are transported into the most professional restaurant. As all the staff are students under training they perform at the highest level and could not be more pleasant. Met at the door and shown to your table as only one sitting, drinks ordered and brought to the table. The table was beautifully decorated and we all had crackers to pull. We all had Christmas dinner (lunch time) three courses of top quality food that would do pride to many a fancy restaurant. Coffee and mince pies to finish all served and presented to the highest standard, all for £15!At the end of the meal the young chefs come to each table to check everything was satisfactory and gives you the chance to ask about the food and how it was prepared.Dan our waiter made it special.Essential to book and you need to pre order your meal choices.A fantastic experience and we will be back

The 'Taste' Restaurant in Leicester College's Freemans Park Campus, is staffed by students on the catering course. They greet the guests, prepare and serve the food and drink, as part of their training. A three-course lunch with tea/coffee is only £8.50, while a three-course dinner with tea/coffee is just £15.50. I went there for the first time with a group of friends and, once I had adjusted to walking through a deserted educational establishment to find the restaurant, I was very impressed by the presentation of the room, the standard of service and the quality of the food - haute cuisine at a fraction of the normal prices you would pay in another restaurant! We had a demonstration at the table in how to prepare 'Steak Diane' and were delighted to meet some of the chefs after the meal. One had just secured a position at Kilworth House! It was refreshing to meet young people dedicated to learning a skill for life. I would definitely recommend it and hope to go again in the future.

We have been going here regularly for years and it is always great. Sometimes the vegetarian dish isn't as wonderful as the meat but it is generally nice. The service is generally good and, anyway, the students are very well taught and sweet. It is the restaurant we go to most and never fail to enjoy it.

We have been to the restaurant at Leicester College for our office Christmas meal and all of us have come away very impressed. The atmosphere was a little lacking but that is due to the building not the food or the students. A traditional three course Christmas meal was gratefully received by all. Good quality ingredients, more than generous portion sizes and quality puddings to round off. The restaurant is open during the year although only on selected days of the week. I will definitively going back.Overall great value, good quality-easily on a par with privately run restaurants wheer you will pay considerably more for food of a similar quality.

Been several times, as a couple and for special functions. This really is a luxury treat at bargain basement prices. You are helping the young people learn their craft. The service is so attentive and the food out of this world because the kids genuinely care because their careers depend on it. I like how the chefs come out for feedback. It's sweet because they are young and a bit shy. Obviously as a college it has an institutional feel and you have to access up a lift through the college. More like a school canteen made to look like a pretend restaurant. But as niche experience if you value fantastic 5 course, 5 star food and want to do it cheap, you need to try this place. Booking essential as only limited tables and they are not in it to make a profit.
