Tam O' Shanter in Newry and Mourne

We stayed in kilkeel for the weekend and booked dinner on Saturday evening at Tam o'shanter, we had great food and the craic was fantastic.

Lovely owner/s, delightful food, thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of great cooking. I will return, we all had a lovely enjoyable evening here. Well worth it in every way.

As a regular user of this restaurant I can’t speak highly enough off it,with their prawn morney being one of my favourite meals.The Sunday cavery is without a doubt the best and most reasonably priced in the area,also the prawn cocktail is made with local caught prawns and not those cheap imported shrimps like most other establishments and the crac is always mighty.

Friendly warm & cosy reception by all backed up with local quick wit & charm. Menu concise but very appealing. Had fillet steak, with full providence traceability which was cooked to perfection, medium rare. Very impressive food coupled with genuinely friendly warm reception & craic. Thoroughly recommended for both food & atmosphere. Great nights craic.

Have recently got a few Sunday Carvery dinners from here. Lovely fresh tasty traditional Sunday roast dinners. Choice of 4 meats and Fiona and her staff certainly are not miserable with the portions if either meat or veg.

Visitamos poco después de Navidad y tenía un encantador almuerzo.Mi compañero tenía la mayor filete es probado y yo tenía un plato de fideos chili dulce. Siempre estoy indeciso sobre qué opciones para vegetarianos que se consigue en restaurantes como estoy limitada generalmente a pasta, pero había un montón que podía elegir por suerte.

Entramos en seguros si este era un pub o restaurante. Unos pocos chicos de beber en un bar pequeño dijo que ir arriba. Escalada una escalera muy empinada que entramos en una zona de descanso con alfombras de tartán marrón. Una señora escocesa dijo que no que la mitad de pintas de Guinness como me apetecía. No soy un bebedor, pero tomé una copa de vino y pedimos agua que nunca llegó.Pedí tiras de bistec con patatas cajún media y arroz. La comida era agradable, pero el bistec caro como me dieron un café también.Cuando fuimos a pagar abajo en el bar los chicos eran ahora más borracho y más brusca.Estoy debatiendo si volver si en la zona, ya que la comida era buena.

Best food I had in a long time...excellent service and friendly welcome. Deffo recommend. Wee drink and banter in the pub afterwards. I will deffo be back.

Hello. We had the Carvery. Having a choice of different meat and vegetables was great. Something to suit everyone. The best part of dinner is always dessert. The sticky toffee pudding is definitely one to have.

Llamó Tam O hanter para mi primera visita el sábado con un amigo. Tenía la carne teriyaki para comer y que era el mejor! Pero el menú parece estupendo no podía ser pasado ofertas de hoy! Amigo de acuerdo y está entusiasmado acerca de eso - él será. Gran servicio, ambiente muy agradable, acogedor y muy buena comida. No mucho más se puede pedir.

Descubrimos este lugar en la víspera de Año Nuevo, buscando algo de comer, y estoy muy contento de que encontráramos esta auténtica joya. Tuvimos la mejor sopa que he probado nunca, felicitaciones al chef. Jimmy y Fiona son los anfitriones más acogedor que se puede pedir, ojalá este fue nuestro local! Un lugar cálido y acogedor wee, no podemos esperar a volver con amigos para mostrar lo que la hospitalidad es:)

Really warm homely restaurant with gorgeous food the steak and garlic potatoes were absolutely perfect couldn't fault a thing

Estuve con la familia mientras en Kilkeel para el fin de semana siguiente al buscar para un sitio bueno para goggle comer.. Una de las mejores comidas de domingo carvary hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. Gran servicio amable y comida excelente! Definitivamente volveré de nuevo.

been several times for the carvery as a family. food is excellent good hearty Sunday roasts cooked to perfection. 4 meats (melt in the mouth) veg to die for. yorkshires et al. you will go a long way to get better food or a more friendly crowd. (the beer is good too)

This place is fab from start to finish ! Real friendly atmosphere and the food well it's gorgeous and the prices are great unlike some places in kilkeel !! 1 things for sure you will leave here with a big smile on you're face and a full belly !! We have eaten here as a large group as well as a couple and on all occasions we have had fabulous food service and price we will be eating there again very soon

Always visit this place when I'm home with friends and family. The food is to die for, particular the Irish produced steak or seafood from the local area. The price for drinks and food is incredibly good value. There is a turf lit fire in the winter months and a beer garden to the rear during the summer months. This place is always worth a visit.... The food is delicious, plentiful and great value for money, and the hospitality is second to none.

We went to Tam O' Shanter yesterday for the 3 course carvery and I must say it was by far one of the best carverys I have ever had. When we arrived we were greeted at the door by two lovely ladies, one then took us to the restaurant and showed us to our table. The food from the starter right through to the dessert was all delicious, great big portions and full of taste. The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent. Will highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

Tam o shanter has a straight forward menu that works well. Wholesome food excellently cooked and well presented. I had haddock and chips .. Chips were home made dry and cooked to perfection the haddock had light batter and tasted great. Definitely will be back here again warm friendly atmosphere this place is worth a call when visiting the kingdom of mourne. I only found this place by chance ... Glad I did

Fifteen of us went here for mothers day, and although the restaurant was not busy, we waited almost 20 minutes until someone came to take our order for our starter. Starters when they arrived were lovely, and as we have eaten in a LOT of carvery restaurants before, once we had finished our starter we made our way up to where the carvary was being served. Two of our table got their meal, when we were asked "are you in a hurry as there are other tables ahead of you" I was quite taken aback, as, from past experience, this is not how carverys normally work. The rest of the table had to then wait until we were called for our meal, by which time, the two that had got their meal were almost finished. The meal was lovely though, and plenty of it. We then ordered our desserts, and had made it plain that as some of the party had a funeral to attend, we were in quite a rush. Desserts started to arrive and when we enquired as to whether we could have the crumble first due to the my father being under pressure for time, I was quite abruptly told that "the crumble is in the oven, we're doing our best" by one of the waitresses. The redeeming factor was the gentleman (the owners hubby) who appeared at our table at the end of the meal and gave lollypops to all the children. Unfortunately, we won't be returning - which is a shame, as the food was lovely, plenty of it, but let down by the service we received.

I recently dined here and had a great experience. The range and varieties of food is great you can get what ever You want! Pleasant staff, good size portions and tasty food. Great food for great value!

The staff were friendly and made us welcome. The restaurant was well laid out and there was a great choice on the menu.

Kilkeel is crying out for good places to eat so it was great to find the Tam O'Shanter.After a quick look on trip adviser I phoned to make a reservation. The welcome and information on the phone was the friendliest I think I have ever had.Arriving into the restaurant the same warm welcome greeted us.We elected to eat in the bar area as we had been advised this was were the 'Craic' was.Tam O'Shanter appears to be a family affair and I would imagine after a couple of visits you could well find yourself feeling like you had joined the family.We ordered the Surf and Turf as a treat with Garlic potatoes. The food was reasonably quick and was of a good hearty standard. The meal was reasonably priced for what we ordered but there is a cheaper bar snacks menu which we look forward to trying on our next visit.

What a friendly hidden wee place to come across on a wet day... great food and the criac is mighty. Highly recommended. .

The Tam O'Shanter used to get a bad name and i wouldn't have went to it , BUT NOW, Fiona Has taken it over and it truly is a "hidden treasure". It is some where that you would not be embarrassed to take visitors to. The staff are very friendly and the decor upstairs is really nice with no fusty smell. The 10oz steak is fantastic and they do, in my opinion nice tasty starters and good desserts. I would advise you to book a table upstairs as it is more peaceful. It is really worth a visit.

If you ever go to Kilkeel you must visit Tam O'Shanert for a meal. The best food ever. The atsmosphere is great, the food is amazing and the staff - well, they are just perfect. Fiona and her husband are great hosts. If you are looking for great food and very friendly stall. GO TO TAM O'SHANTERS in Kilkeel.
