Stopped there for a quick bite before catching a ferry. The views from the dining room are amazing. My husband had a chicken burger (thickest piece of chicken I’ve seen in a while) and I had the fish finger ciabatta. Both were very nice and filling. There are also art studios around the building to enjoy some local artists’ work.

Lovely but busy restaurant in a very scenic location. However, table service was slow as,unfortunately, people who arrived after us were served first. However, a staff member did apologise and was then very attentive. Cullen Skink was very tasty and filling; my husband greatly enjoyed his pizza. We would return.

After trying to get a coffee or lunch right around Harris we stopped at Talla na Mara where I have stopped in the years since it opened but, except on once occasion, been unable to get any service. We were greeted with "We are short staffed but we can seat you." We sat. We waited. More people were shown to a table. We sat. Two youngsters were laughing and generally messing around by the lectern at the entrance. No attempt was made to take an order. We left.

We arrived for a 3 night stay. On arrival we thought we’d grab some lunch. We went into the restaurant and was asked how many was it for (we said 3) despite there being quite a few free tables we were told they were busy - so we exited and never returned! On night 2 there was a wedding on. There was no prior warning of this when we booked sadlyThere was loud music/noise until after 12 midnight along with a coach with reversing buzzer and engine running after 11pm in the carpark. The staff also dumping used glass bottles (some racket) until after 11pm The toilets are shared with the venue and there is 1 shower for 10 pitches (30-40 people?) and seemed to only be cleaned once a day and it can only de described as disgusting at times. In today’s worldIn a pandemic you would expect more cleaning, but there was none other than in the morning, which was disappointing. The facilities didn’t give confidence that this place was COVID-19 safe!!Overall a very poor experience and while we will return to the Island we wont return to this venue

We were pleased to find that this restaurant was still in business when many others have had to give up. Our waitress was delightful and the food arrived promptly; we both had chicken and bacon cabbala with salad and chips, followed by strawberry tarts which were excellent. The Covid precautions in place seemed well thought out; I guess this might also account for the lack of atmosphere another review highlighted. But we thought it was fine, and bought a print in the gallery too.

Stopped here for lunch, wish we hadn't bothered. We were seated quite quickly then forgotten about. My husband ordered a burger and chips and I had fish and chips. Frozen chips were greasy and still hard. Burger was ok. On an island you would expect nice fresh fish, unfortunately that wasn't what arrived. Got a skinny piece of frozen haddock that was so greasy I would normally have left it, but I was starving so I ate it anyway. Overpriced frozen rubbish. The only redeeming factor was that the coffee was good. Don't waste your money, go elsewhere.

We actually stayed at the adjoining site, Pairc Niseaboist, which shares the Talla Na Mara facilities via a short path up the hillside. Excellent information provided which meant we never saw staff, just let ourselves into the site. Pitch 1 had wonderful views of the sea and a very short walk to the grass/beach out front. Despite there only being one shared shower, this wasn’t a problem. Small site with only 5 or 6 other pitches.

Stopped off for a late lunch without a reservation. Didn't have to wait long while they cleaned a recently vacated table for me - nice to see everything wiped down properly including the chairs. Good covid precautions in place - asked to scan in on the "protect Scotland" app, one way system through the venue, tables all well distanced. Service was quick and friendly. I had the "daily special" open sandwich with beetroot, avocado and seeds which was served with a nicely dressed salad - delicious. I also ordered a side of chips, which were excellent. I will plan to visit for dinner next time I am in Harris. The sea views from the restaurant are spectacular. The outside terrace would be a great place to eat if the weather was warmer than on my visit.

We stopped for lunch with 2 wee ones on our way to the ferry home yesterday. I am so disappointed I didn’t come here at the start of our trip as would have loved to have eaten there more than once! Beautiful, modern & very clean inside. The food was delicious - I had a Machair burger (chicken) which was great. Partner had the haggis and black pudding pizza, kids had fish and chips & peas and we also shared a bowl of Cullen skink. The soup was divine and the best Cullen skink I have EVER tasted. Compliments to the chef on that one for sure!! Coffee was also lovely. Nice extra touch that the kids were given a drawing pack too to keep them amused. I’m always apprehensive taking children in to eateries however the staff were really accommodating and friendly with them & put me at ease. Staff were friendly & on the ball. The owner (I think she was) was also there & was really pleasant too. The view from the window was absolutely stunning over the sea too. Can’t wait to come back next year on another visit! Food only just very average, visited with family, left feeling disappointed! Firstly, no daft beers available, sold out, no mussels, scallops or mackerel, also sold out. Seafood chowder very smokey taste, children’s garlic bread very well toasted and dry in taste. One of the children’s meals ( chicken goujons ) did not taste very good, strange taste to them. Seafood linguine lacked seasoning, however good portion size, once seasoned was ok. Steak was a little tough, not much taste to it. Fish and chips should be avoided! Batter very heavy, chips with skin on, frozen, oil needed changing, would have improved the taste, small amount of chips. Really disappointing meal, over priced for sure, service sadly also only just average. It’s a strange restaurant, in that it’s location is beautiful, but no real view as obscured by gazebo. It has some kind of gazebo attached to the front that looks onto the sea, but from the inside the restaurant it makes the view blurry. No atmosphere to the restaurant, it would have been lovely to have had some gentle Scottish music playing in the background, it really needs some character and charm. It’s charging more than average prices for less than average food and service, the location is beautiful but can’t really be seen when in the restaurant due to gazebo as mentioned. Disappointing experience in respect to restaurant, would not recommend or return.

We were staying in two of the three campervan pitches at this site, which is in a stunning location, and decide we would do a breakfast the following morning here. We went into the complex to check on opening times for the morning, which were on the board at the restaurant door as the restaurant was closed at that point. Next morning we went to find that the restaurant was not open at the prescribed time, we eventually found somebody to ask when they were opening as we were looking for breakfast. The manageress then came to tell us that they would not be open as they had a special group arriving that morning. We pointed out that this could have been intimated previously as we were now going to have to go find someplace else as we had packed up the campers. To this she replied that the only way she could have advertised the fact was by internet, I suggested a sign on the door the previous evening may have worked. This must have hit a nerve as she got the chefs to do us some very fine scrambled egg with smoked salmon and good toast. There was a problem , but it was solved well and we were neither hungry nor dissatisfied and the local crafts people did well out of us as we had been held there. So a result all round. The restaurant is a little clinical and has a stark feel to it, but the view is good.

Been here before and knew the cafe/restaurant was pricey, but when on holiday you don;t mind paying a bit extra for quality and to feed the local economy. However, with limited stops for refreshments we were prepared to wait (45 minutes) for 5 cyclists. Ordered the fishcakes (or so we thought) but all we got was one fishcake (which was lovely) on a small bed of watercress. Nearly choked on the £8.50 price tag though. Shame it marred an otherwise great day out. I would have been embarassed to have served that up for the price.

The restaurant can also be booked for weddings and other special occasions. More information through their website.

We had a self catering place a few miles away and needed provisions. We passed this little place and called in. What a find. Not only a small mini market for supplies, but a sub post office AND a small Cafe. There is also a small Museum and archive of local interest and guess what. ~24/7 Fuel pumps. We tried the Cafe which was sort of self help, Pour your own Coffee/tea and help yourself to various cakes hygienically kept under glass covers and tongs provided. The Sultana Cake was delicious. One pays at the PO counter at a fixed price per item. It was so good and the staff so helpful we actually made a point of returning twice more and we found the cooking very consistent. What a lovely place with great views from the cafe over the loch. There was roof work taking place with the appropriate warning notice and apology but it did not spoil our enjoyment. Go there and enjoy. We did. The shop sold delicious Lemon curd flavoured Orkney Ice Cream in tubs. Had to try it and returned for the fudge flavour next day.
